- There’s no doubt that airgun slugs are a hot topic right now. Compared to traditional diabolo - waisted - airgun pellets, airgun slugs offer improved accuracy at long ranges, combined with greater downrange impact due to a higher Ballistic Coefficient.

My Hatsan hurcbully .25 loves these, turned up. 31grain is a understatement. I tested them on a scale at 31.4 to 31.5 grains. Talking about the Grizzlys. I actually had to turn my gun up all the way to the max to get the true accuracy out of them. I am impressed actually :-)

Hubby and I just ordered a bunch!
Our .22 Crown, .25 Impact mkII both wearing 700mm slug liners are just eating up the NSA flat base HPs and tuned for the .22 24.8g at 54ftlbs (insanely accurate) and the .25 running the 29.5g at 62ftlbs (insanely accurate). Our two .22 Dream lite bottle guns are eating up the FX hybrids and super dialed at 985fps.
Our poly barreled HM1000X LRTs are destroying (we have two .22s and 1 .25 and a .30 we just got a few months ago) NSA 23g at 1010fps both guns are shooting consistantly sub minute 10 shot groups at the 100y indoor range.
We just ordered a bunch of the H&N slugs. We are really hoping that the 600mm slug liner Dream tac we have will find one it loves. We have not found a slug yet that it will shoot.. The best as of yet are NSA 23 at 930 and its around 2 inch 5 shot 100y groups (totally unacceptable) if we can't find one it likes it's gonna go back to life as a .25 JSB king slinger. Honestly every .22 slug liner i have eats up the hybrids and NSA 23s, 27.5s and 28.5s and this one doesn't like anything.

wow now you have some great guns, I have a question...whenever you say slug liner, is this a different barrel only 4 slugs that fx is offering if you to slugs?

@@monkpato I see videos guy's pushing those fx slug over 900+ fps...I was thinking about a crown or a uragan 30cal 4 hunting..those slugs weight is 21g how come they travel 930+ fps but can only push the 18g JSB 880fps or a heavier 22cal pellet at lower fps ? I'm confused ...I want the crown because of it's different caliber change..wish the 30 cal was at least 85-100 fpe...love the ataman 30cal but keep hearing how bad the barrel is in the 30cal..a CZ 30cal barrel would be nice since there so accurate..100fpe 4 deer and hog from the ataman 30cal
@@bigearl8687 the Crown in 30 is a sweet sweet gun, but yes it's a little underpowered for deer. An Ataman with a CZ barrel would be awesome!

The 25gr .218 are EXTREMELY ACCURATE!! out of my RAW HM1000X dime size 7 shot groups at 42yrds

I just ran the whole range of 218s through a micrometer and the only ones that were actually 218 were the 30 grains .
All the other sizes varied from 5.50 to 5.52,
The 30 grain was the only true 218 whish is 5.5377,
So you need to check the diameter on these h & ns.

Vulcan 3 5.5 700 out of the box,just love the H&N 25g,27g 218s. Haven’t tried the 217s yet! But very happy with the 218s. Definitely getting the 217s to test!🤠

Funny thing about H&N slugs: they are 25gr and drop an inch at 10 metres compared to 25.39gr JSB Monster pellets in my S510, but hit in the same place with an old Brocock Concept. I'm guessing the Brocock has a slightly tighter barrel (even though it and the S510 have Lothar Walther barrels).

@@wstewart5532 A lighter weight projectile lands a lot lower than heavier one at the same distance? Sure sounds like it isn't fitting the barrel as tightly as the JSB. I can't think of another explanation. Anyway, I got out the micrometer and measured them:
JSB Jumbo Monster 25.39gr 5.5mm at head, 5.68mm at skirt
H&N Slug HP 25gr 5.56mm at base
So yes, I think the JSB is a better fit and leaves with a higher MV. It's late and dark, so I won't get out the chrono now, but it looks like that would confirm it. None of this matters a bit if your barrel gets on with the slugs, as the Brocock does. It's cheap enough to buy a tin and try them out.
Nice groups. With NEC's, I sort them, anddo sub MOA groups at 100 Yards. They totally waste rats, squirrels. Soda cans at 175 yards all day long. I'll order some of these. Fx slug liners do pellets well enough. AA S510 .25 love boh too.
Pellets will still be the choice upto 100yds.condors have been doing long range submoa with slugs long before the scene litup
I hope that H&N made some .25 cal Slugs in Bigger Tins of 500 pcs. The FX Slug liner needs more ammo.
They do make them but sadly only 150 slugs in a tin. They are called the "grizzly". They come in .25 and .35
Basically, lower muzzle velocity better ballistic coefficient. Can these slugs come in a lightweight alloy with a denser material for the core so the rifling can be optimised to make use of the charge energy? And why dont the slugs have a dovetail to speak of?
My kalibrgun .22cal loves the 21gr 5.51 ..great group's and taking hare at 70m easy 👍..much better than the jsb 18.13 gr
I would definitely try them out with a slower speed gun as well. I have a gun w/ a choked barrel that will drill holes with slugs if they're moving slower, but sprays them if they are moving 800 fps or higher. I have no idea why, but that's what it does. Definitely worth testing, high or medium powered guns. I always have to wait for the .25 cal to come out, it gives me time to see what the slugs are doing in everyone else's gun before I buy them, lol.

I got a test pack of 50 to try them and my Air Arms s510 loves them, average half inch groups at 50yrds with 30 fpe from my FX Chrono. Not for general plinking but great for my pest control.

I crazy glue a BB to the front or back oh pellets both 177 and 22. It adds around 4.5 - 5.5 grams I think. I shoot them through my Beeman. They hit really hard and cause total expansion of the pellets.
Try it you'll like it. Just bvb e sure not to get the glue on the pellet itself. Happy shooting.

I tested H&N slugs with the Ataman BP17 and the FX Wlidcat.
The slugs are so smooth that they slide out of the magazine in both guns.
They are probably not to be used in guns with open magazines !!

I'm shooting 36gr Neilson slugs at 1060 fps from my fully modified fx Impact .25 .. I get 3 in one hole and 2 annoying flyers almost on every 5 shot group. JSB mk2 are still more consistent.
That's smoking fast! Do the fliers stop if you slow them down a little?
@@airgundepot Not by much. I still get at least one flyer while shooting at slower speeds. Consistency is still an issue with slugs but im sure that will be solved pretty soon.
I would weight the ammo then look at barrel harmonics. Also is it the first 3 shots after a topped off tank might be a issue with most pcp designs. So don't count the first 3 shots in that group use the next 5.

I would like to use these in my Gamo Urban but I'm guessing it's not powerful enough to use these slugs? Can anyone give me some advice on that? Thank you
The hybrids will likely be your only real option. NSA 23g need 930+ to shoot good and thats in a faster twist rate liner our FX slug liners shoot them fantastic but the pellet liners shoot them pretty good to so long as we are pushing them 930+ at 980fps they shoot well in the slug liner.
Now to get directly to your question. We have a R10 and it shoots the FX hybrids very good and your Urban has a BSA hammer forged barrel just like the R10 and the twist rates will be the same. Now i will say the R10 is pushing them at 910fps it won't shoot the NSA 23s worth of darn nor any other weights of the NSA but the Hybrids are acceptable with 10 shot 50y groups running right at a inch (not fantastic but decent and if we could push them faster out of it the groups would for sure tighten up more)
I don't think the barrel will be your issue with the Hybrids (flat based slugs would be a waste of money for you with that twist rate and at the 23ish ftlbs the urban makes) getting them up to 40ftlbs minium will be your issue as the twist rate of the barrel is not fast enough to stabilise it without it being pushed at 920 eith 960 to 990 being ideal.
I have a friend that has a Urban and i will ask him to bring it over tomorrow and ill run a few different slugs in it and let you know if anything remotely preforms. I do know his is tuned to push JSB18.13s at 28ftlbs and before we changed the hammer spring and preload it was doing 22.5ftlbs with the 18.13s. So if it shoots anything decently at 28ftlbs it's no problem to get the Urban to shoot 28 to 30ftlbs with just a different hammer spring and some preload tuning to get it exactly where you want it and the shot string is shortened but is still fairly flat just like stock it still acts somewhat like a regulated gun and that's a huge plus.
Ill come back at some point tomorrow and let you know if i found anything. I believe the Hybrids will shoot decently out his gun out to 50y but i believe it will have stability issues at longer ranges, it may shoot great at 25y and decent at 50 but i believe groups will open very very quickly vs the normal way slugs perform and that's they don't shoot at tight as pellets at 50y but they don't open very much over distance. I believe the to low velocity will make that reversed and they will shoot well out to 25 to maybe 40y and then will start to lose stability and groups will open up very fast past that point in its trajectory.

Thanks man. All of that makes sense. The Urban just isn’t a powerful enough gun for the slugs which is ok. Hopefully one day I can own something much more powerful.

We haven't shot slugs through it and we don't have one on hand to be able to test.
Someone needs to do a comparison with a .22lr with comparable weights & speeds & see which is the most efficient ballistically & financially

Dam hell yeah I just got into air rifles because of pest problem here in Long Beach CA . I had at home rats walking on the wall and critters so I picked me up a Gamo Swarm Whisper 10x quick shot 22. And its rated 975 fps so I can use this awsome. But the squirrel hunting law suck in California

Problem with h&n is they put to much antimony in the slugs
H&N lead is harder then JSB lead throughout their line of pellets and slugs....
I ordered a bunch of their slugs today to test out and see if anything shoots better then the NSA slugs right now... The NSA slugs used to be a much harder lead/antimony alloy but now they are much softer... The FX hybrids are nice soft lead and i expected the H&N slugs to be their normal hardness and you aren't gonna get the terminal performance at airgun velocity with that hard lead but that's fine to me because if i wanted expansion the FX hybrids are giving a lot of it and the NSA slugs expand really well... If any of the H&n slugs group tighter at a 100 or 200y then the NSA slugs ill be fine with the lack of expansion.
They really need to lighten up on how much antimony they put in the alloy. The slugs will likely perform better in more barrels and will DEFF perform better on target.

These are great for penetrating stuff had stuff like wood a metal too because the metal they use is quite hard

Why just not WRITE all of the parameters of the test shoot, either as a comment or in the video as a CLEAR text? Lost 10 precious minutes just the get the RANGE of the test. What was the muzzle velocity? Airgun model? Barrel twist rate, choked or not?!
Does anyone especially airgun Depot know whether a .22 lr bullet would work in a .22 gun now I realize you could ruin stuff with your gun and stuff when using projectiles that aren't meant for a airgun but could you sacrifice a airgun to see how well it would perform please?
22lr bullets are a different size. Dont get confused between .22 Pellets/Slugs and .22lr.

Are these slugs too long for a GAMO Swarm Magazine. I know, some one answered these are only for PCP, but that's like saying, "You can only burn un-leaded gas in this car". If they will fit in the magazine, they will go down the barrel.
The PCP only is simply due to the larger bearing surface and the Springer/gas ram not having the power to push the slug down the barrel.
Sounds like what you are saying is, the increased bearing surface of the slug is too much for the pressure of a spring gun to overcome. That makes sense. Thank you.
I couldn't tell you if they fit but NSA 23g slugs are about as tall as a JSB 15.89.
The twist rate will be to slow at the very slow velocity that it will push them at so you will likely be shooting Key holes at 25y (IE: slug tumbling).
In 99.9% of cases i will say that a Springer will not shot slugs in any way what so ever other then sending them flying lol.
The .217s will be better because of not grabbing the rifling as much and you running the risk of it not coming out the barrel.
Hubby and i own a few springers but don't shoot them a lot as we are big in to the PCP side of it.
We was playing around taking our HW97KT and shot a 50y group with NSA 23g slugs and was shocked to find that it shot them decently (then we tested them in both of our TX200s and HW95 and got what we expected and that's slugs hitting sideways and laughable groups even at 25y) we shot a couple 10 shot groups at 25 and 50y at 25y we was getting 10 shots in around 1.25 inches and at 50y 10 shots within about 2.5 inches. Compared to what the gun is capable of with H&N Sniper 14g and JSB15.89s it's really bad because this gun is fully capable of 10 shots under a inch at 50y if the shooter is good with spring gun and half inch 25y 10 shot groups are easy with it. So it shooting 2.5 inch 50y groups is bad but when you factor it's doing it with slugs that's impressive. That gun is resprung and tuned to push 15.89s at 24ftlbs and i believe that is why it shot slugs much better then the other three did because they are 15 to 17ftlb guns and the HW97 is pumping out 24 to 25ftlbs so it was pushing them a good bit faster and it must have been just fast enough to get the spin rate up enough to "some what" stabilise them.
To be totally honest you will be wasting your money buying slugs to run in that gun. It's a 14 to 16ftlb gun so no where even close to enough power to get these moving fast enough for the slow twist rate to keep them stable and the accuracy you will get is honestly just going to be a total joke.
You would be better off buying you a tin of Polymag shorts that will likely shoot decently and perform good on pests etc etc and you will deff be able to put Polymags on target MUCH further then you will these slugs as at 50y you will likely be shooting 10 inch or larger groups and deff will have slugs hitting sideways.

You almost right 1:16 You mean at the same weight . Right ? And I wish the pellet industry bring slugs in .177 cal ! Because I have some "Skenco Ultra Tip" in .177
11.3 grain , wich are a holo point if you pull out the metal tip !!! I think a .177 slug with 10 -12 grain would be perfect for plinking and pesting at 70 -100 Yds !!!!!!!
NSA (Nielsen specialty ammo) produce slugs in .177 caliber of three different weights (15.5, 18 and 2 grain) and they can be ordered online.

@@therealartboy Those ones are actually pellets and stabilized by drag even thou resemble slugs by their shape.
Unfortunately, Rabbit Magnum are far away from being accurate at distances I shoot. I have got some of those and tried from FX impact X and Walther 1250 FT, but did not manage to get even close to suitable performance. As an alternative, H&N Piledriver showed reasonable groups from Walter barrel (but not from FX Impact).

I have an Evanix AR6 22. Any idea how do these perform with Evanix. Have used Eunjins pellets which are quite inaccurate, though damn powerful with the AR6. Never tried 22 Slugs.

I'm going to be ordering the Seneca Aspen in .25 cal. which is the best pellet for accuracy. what it the lightest and what is the heaviest I can shoot from that gun. Also I have aa home compressor max 190 psi output. Can I use that to " pre-charge " the Seneca so I don't have to do so many pumps?
190 psi is not a nuff you need 3000 psi for that gun but I go for 4500psi becuz some pcp pellet guns need it

@@clayboren5557 i'm not as well versed in .25 as .22 but there should be some slugs available. Though in most cases standard pellet barrels will not shoot slugs very well. And if it's a break barrel don't even bother.
Do your self a Favor DON'T get slugs, I bought some Grizzly for my guns, I have a condor & even @ 900 FPS they were all over the place. I also have a Flash same shit & I did a power tune it shoots the 30.89 gr around 800 FPS. Until the companies come out with barrels for slugs it is a Crap shoot.

gone rydin lol. I get what your saying, but at least in the US where airgun power isn’t limited, it makes sense. A high power suppressed.22 pcp shooting these, while costing WAY more then a real .22lr, can be shipped to your door and shot in your backyard. So there is some logic to them.
Proper slugs, in a quality slug barrel in a PCP will out shoot 99 percent of any LR rifles. Mine will shoot under 1/2 at 100 yards all day long. It is a custom Talon/Dor by Dyotat100.
I am currently testing a JSAR Raptor Mini designed for shooting slugs. so far, it is a tack driver. But then again, you can buy a might fine Anschutz match .22 lr for the price. LOL with
I test bullets, design same ad test near every day to the tune of 200 to 500 slugs a day. I can tell you that with the right combo, NO .22 rifle can touch them. Period. Particularly at 300 to 600 yards.

My experience with the slugs on my Fx impact Mk3 is completely different. The coating on the slugs makes them extremely inaccurate

Using .25 grizzlies in mine, and they are excellent in my vectis!
I bought the sample pack of diameter 0.217, but when measure them using a mitutoyo caliper the range are from 0.218 to 0.220. Is it correct?
We haven't put measured them with anything precise enough to say for sure.
These "Slugs" sound like a winner. So I take it, that out of a Tin of lets say,...150 -200, we won't be experiencing any "Fliers"?
The nature of their design should make them more consistent.
You may get fliers. The best way to eliminate them is to weigh into batches. A slight difference in weight is enough to cause a flier.

Joe De Jesus - Don’t resize them unless you know the exact internal dimension of your barrel. Just weigh them into batches. When you go shooting always use the same batch, don’t mix.

There are so many permutations to these slugs with different powers different weights and different barrels you are not going to get the group's shown in this vid unless you do some serious testing.

AT 8:42, this is the .217 and this is five of them, looks just like 4 but actually five there. Reality is that at 7:40 he shoots the wrong target. He shoots the 23 grain instead of the 21 grain target. Sorry, only 4 shots, no magical hit the same hole twice.

FX slugs loads of hype but impossible to buy .. only made and sold in the states . Why the FX name .. I have no idea . their FX named slugs are not allowed to be ordered outside of the USA.
They are really "rattail sniper slugs" made here in the US I believe.

Search out the videos on ballistics by Matt from South Africa. He has some great explanations. Powder burner cartridges easily produce the pressures needed to get those speeds. Stable flight for slugs from air guns is a Huge advancement that has only Just recently happened.
Until there is new breakthroughs with regards to valving of HP air, or maybe dual HP air ports behind the pellets, you are not going to see supersonic pellet speeds (fast enough for distance). The current technology, or let’s say, the technology currently on the market shelves (who knows what’s going on behind closed doors) can not produce supersonic pellet speeds high enough to maintain long flight above the speed of sound. Once you drop into the trans sonic area, everything goes for a crap.

@@mistersir2616 I was expecting some high power .177 .22 and .25 cal air rifles this shot show 2020. But I guess the one rn is the Jsar Raptor. I know there's is a new company out there that's making a .22 air rifle. That's punching a 40 grian slug upward to 1400 fps. I can't remember the name of the company. I dont think there's a 50 or 60 foot pound air rifle in .177. As of yet.

there is one. it has been around since quite a long time. but that's not the only feature of it. it's the best airgun currently on the market. i can imagine bigger air tanks and calibers on that kind of technology in the future. it's called huben k1

Group size? One has to continue shooting until the group size stops increasing, be it 10-20shots. Only that represents the precision. Shooting 3-5shot groups is selling snake oil
We typically do 10 shot groups, but not when we are shooting that many targets.

The make a "grizzly" slug 31g in 25 cal I have several tins of them.
@@jamesdonnelly3866 I got those as well for my Sumatra 2500 .25 but they are too narrow for it magazine and will fall out or miss feed when I cock and load one up. I'd have to load them up without using the magazine. I like using them too. I put a grizzily on a squirrel head and it was instant death. It dropped out the tree like some shit I never seen before 😂🤣😂.
Yep .25 grizzly. 31 gr, 150 count, at $11 CAD, on amazon. So the US is probably $6.

Did you wash the slugs first? Here in Europe comes covered with oil and full of lead dust. I modified my Wildcat .22 with a 600 mm liner and pulled 60 joules. Loves the 23 gr .218 and makes groups better than these at 192 meters .... Just have to clean the liner every 60 shots. At 150 meters is groups is one hole. The price is more affordable every 10 boxes 9.75 euros each boxe

I tested the H&N slugs with the Ataman BP17 and the FX Wlidcat MK1.
The slugs are so smooth that they slide out of the magazine in both guns.
Don't you have these problems?

@@badboyrick3520 No problem with the .218. I had a pain in my ass washing to remove the oil that has grabbed from the factory. If they are not well washed when rubbed on their hands with already dry it would be with fingers full of lead dust. then just apply silicole oil

the 218 also slip out of the magazine for me, but I only have the slugs from the Samler, they are very clean and smooth !!
