  • We run into some old friends randomly, Wals v8 Adventra refuses to go home, over heats as we cross into Victoria and we find a few nice camps spots as we sprint back home doing 400km days across the country to get back on Friday.

    I have really enjoyed this series. Partly because you going through the country I’m familiar with. Also fire ban in W.A account bush fires. Twenty minutes about my attention span. Well done.

    I prefer the travel logs over the Bush bashing. Your going to destinations. Your seeing the land.. Not just out to break stuff.
    Roasted PiG is not what I wanted to hear.
    At least your in the home state.. so Roadside wont be as bad if it is needed.
    Wal... If the over flow tank is bubbling.. ITS UNDER PRESSURE ~! Removing the cap when it is bubbling out of the cap.. is a sure fire way to have a coolant Geyser .

    Chris, like the travel vids nice to see different places in an adventra and like seeing all the free camps, fans are intermittent cooling devices only, should not need to turn on above 50kmh, unless there is a problem

      Some more investigation to be had with the car once it gets back home! Thanks for commenting! Not many free camps in SA, unless you have some inside info but we found a few (we think we were allowed at) hehe

    I actually prefer these style of videos because I don't 4x4 atm (I will eventually) and I travel with a trailer. I did notice the videos were a bit short. I think going up to 25mins would also be good. I don't like a lot of things in cars except for the fridge and also don't like a really cramped trailer either (been there done that). A good budget set up is a box trailer with a cage and a roof top tent that opens out the back. Can attach annex room and have that + the trailer space. I went from 6x4 to 8x5, to tandem 8x5 and now I have a 10x5. Should have done that from the start.

      Yeah we’ve over time trialed many things, the tvan for us has been the perfect fit - but it has come at a cost. Plenty of people I know I have done what you have and have had great success and it’s super budget which makes it brilliant! Thanks for watching and enjoying our videos.

      @@AllTerrainAction Yeah it's a good set up, but expensive like you said. Is your mate planing to get a trailer? I could use a spare tub for my crewman😅 Regarding what I have done there is a fair bit to know about tents on trailers and all the ins and outs/trial and error, to get an average to an uber good sent up. People come up to me with more the expensive sent ups and caravans and say 'damn it's actually not just slapped together'. I'm sort of busy the next few years and don't travel at all. One of these days I'll do what you guys do with the youtube, trips away and detail the set up/s. Cheers

      @Dan-rg7jj a bare bone tvan with storage instead of a kitchen, without front box is on the cards for Wal, but his trying to work out if he intends to do as much travelling to make it worth it over the next few years. We did consider a canopy over the tub with RTT but that trailer needs a bunch of work. Once she shed is finished it’s build we will brainstorm some plans, the other option as you say is he could really put in time and a small amount of cash to make that trailer into something reasonable as well, perhaps budget build a camper. Many options, we’re still learning it all too.

      @@AllTerrainAction If you do go a trailer I'll share a few tips. I had an arb tent but now kings tent. It is almost the same. The kings was 1k. For a box trailer a couple things to note is the type of cage. Most are bolted on while a few have 4 points in the outside corners where the cages slot into. This is the type to get as it supports the weight of the tent plus people. Fiting is as simple as running 2 lengths of 2.5mm shs or thinker 40x40mm accross the top and bolting down and drilling for bolts through the cage. At the front there will be a gap where one can climb over into the trailer. This can be closed off by getting a custom caged section welded up to bolt down just in front of the tent to secure the trailer. The rear of the trailer can be padlocked when leaving camp. Works a treat. Ballance trailers are your friend. They are in Melbourne and have a selection of trailers with the slots for the cage and are welded up and galled really good. 7x5s with a 900mm cage are really good value and easy to reverse with commodore being a x5 and not x4 or x6. For storage I used stackable containers. I didnt really stack them just rolled them into the trailer. I put dry food/clothing/manchester in there. Never got wet or ants. Plus I threw bikes, hoses, tyres, water containers, tables chairs, second fridge in there. The safety of a cage is a huge draw card never have to worry about loosing or things flying off or out. The front had like a 1700mm by 800m by 1000m toolbox where I put fuel and tools, lights, chargers, gas. At 6f and having a 900mm cage it was about the right height for me to stand under once the tent opened out.

    Try rebleeding your coolant line, should be a valve on your radiator, had issue with my commodore overheating, air gets trapped in the line and can cause boiling / bubbling of coolant as it’s gets hot.

    • @AllTerrainAction
      @AllTerrainAction  Před 5 měsíci

      VY2 V8 systems fill point is actually already the highest point in the cooling system, they dont have a bleed screw on the radiator like the VZ V8 or VZ V6 systems. Unless there is something we havent been told, community feedback has been fill keeping water level above outlets, run vehicle wiith AC off, heater to max and go for 20-30mins idle till all bubbles stop returning and coolant level is at the correct level in the fill reservoir. I know the V8 VZ cooling systems bleed the way you are describing.

    You don't need fans when the car is moving, there's obviously another problem, thermistat and waterpump first things to check, fans are only for slow speed or while you're stopped

    • @AllTerrainAction

      With our cars I’ve found because we have removed the bottom shroud that seals the bottom face of the body kit air doesn’t push well through the front and through the radiators - even my (Chris) adventra has problems keeping engine temps down when over 35 outside temp ever since the bottom shroud is removed, fairly sure it’s part of airflow design since air is easier to pass through and down rather than pass through and then pass the radiator. Those bottom plastics do not last off-roading and only solution I’ve found has been sucking air through the radiator I’ve also confirmed this same issue with other adventra owners who off road in them and have lost the same plastics. We will still probably just change both the thermostat and water pump anyway to be sure.
