    I don't see many people my age commenting. I am 82 soon to be 83. I feel every bit as good as I did in my 60's, maybe even better. I have always been careful about what I eat, but I did let the weight get away from me. When I turned 80, I decided I wasn't going down without a fight. I adopted a dog from the shelter who would make me take him out every day. I bought some new walking shoes and between those two things, I haven't stopped for a minute. I have no pain at all. I used to have arthritis, but I don't now. I have also lost 33 lbs so far. I can lift quite a bit because I make sure I do it every chance I get. I think my big water bottles are plenty heavy so I lift those just to exercise my muscles. I take a lot of vitamins and minerals to help with aging and my mind. I feel good. Really good!!

    Update: I'll be 61 in a few weeks! I'm feeling stronger and younger now than 2 years ago! Lost 56 lbs. (I'd gained weight after loosing my husband of 35 years.) Fasting is regenerating! So uplifting to be happy with what I see in the mirror; no concerns for the imperfections! It goes beyond sprouts, but it's a part of the life-giving life style. As for USA vs Russia, give me America any day! tRUMP may be effing up every good thing he can get his hands on here at home, but he won't be here much longer. Then we can finally breathe a sigh of relief, and get on with the business of gluing all the parts back together again to a close semblance of our Already-Great Country.

    • @youresoakinginit2113
      @youresoakinginit2113 Před 5 lety +14

      R 1900,
      Well you got that part right: tRUMP is a moron. He doesn't even know that the Chinese Tariffs he just slapped on imports into USA, *ARE NOT PAID BY CHINA* !!! I confess tariffs are something I have never understood before tRUMP forced me to learn about it because anything he says about it is most certainly made up on the spot, and not to be believed. He was speaking on camera at a press conference when he had the Hungarian autocrat visiting, i think, and said "China has already paid BILLIONS in tariffs," which proves what a complete uneducated fop he is. Tariffs are paid by the company BRINGING goods INTO the States, not by the country SENDING THEM OVER. I see it as basically a tax on people who are having their wares made overseas, more or less to encourage them to make stuff on
      American soil, so it can be made better, sold cheaper, appropriately regulated, all while employing Americans at home. That is something tRUMP cannot articulate. Saddest thing about tRUMP is that not only is he uneducated (went to university, came out dumber than he went in) but he is also not "learned" in that he has no life experience that would make him a well rounded person. He knows one topic, building. Yet I would wager he has never used a hammer.
      Sorry to go on about the mistake in the WH; forgot i said this is not the place. (!!)
      Anyway, about Russia, I literally have zero interest in visiting there, but glad you enjoy it since you go there often. It's bad enough since tRUMP was foisted upon us here, but I don't have much use for a country run by oligarchs. That's another thing tRUMP has said, "the more money you have, the more votes you should have." Which of course is the complete OPPOSITE of what Democracy is. He is truly clueless.
      Aplologies to fab50s and other readers who are here to read about sprouting, for carrying on about all of that, i can't even remember how we got on the topic of Russia, tRUMP, blah blah blah. Off to start a batch of sprouts!

      Commenter above might not have meant it this way, but it sounded a lot like, "What's the point? Gonna die anyway..." I took your first comment as, "You gotta live in this body for the rest of your life, why not make it the best it can be, and be as close to pain-free as possible?"
      I like your approach better.😊

Once going through the growing, rinsing process ( 3 days) I put them in the sun ( in a windowsill ) for even more nutrients and you can see them getting maximum nutrition benefits because they will go from brown to lush green ! Eat immediately with 24 hours for maximum health benefit .

      @youresoakinginit2113 Před 5 lety +11

      Sandie Howard,
      You will actually have more nutrients if you just start the sprouts on the kitchen countertop, and allow the photosynthesis to take place from day one. Lots of seeds require light to germinate. I wouldn't place them *in* the windowsill due to risk of burning the young sprouts, but a sunny kitchen (or even an incandescent light bulb nearby) will make 'em green and healthy from day one!

    • @youresoakinginit2113
      @youresoakinginit2113 Před 5 lety +2

      Sandie Howard,
      Also, I wouldnt eat anything brown that's supposed to be green! Sprouts are apparently easy to contaminate, so try to find info on "Growing Sprouts Safely" or "Safe Seed-Sprouting". Also, keep your raw chicken handling WAY far away from your sprouting process, that chicken juice atomizes and EVERYTHING is affected by it. (Oprah said so.) Clean with bleachy wipe thingies after cutting or rinsing raw poultry of any kind, it can make you very sick. 🤒

    • @GracefulBeautyWithSheri
      @GracefulBeautyWithSheri Před 6 lety +29

      Terri Mann, I usually like to add a ton of things BUT here are a few I like that are quick and easy. I just do 1-2 beets, 3 stalks celery, 1 cup pineapple, and then a few cups of water (instead of water you can use green tea or white tea or turmeric tea...whatever you like). I like my drinks thinner texture, not thick smoothies so they are super easy to drink. If I want a green one, I just use 2 huge handfuls of kale or spinach or romaine lettuce or bok choy (any green that you like), 1 cup pineapple, few celery stalks and water or tea to make it super thin like texture of water. You can add whatever you like. That's the beauty of a Vitamix. It is pricey BUT so worth it. I make healthy ice cream in it and hot soups. A trick if you want your smoothies or drinks sweeter add a few SEEDLESS dates. Dates are super sweet, full of fiber and literally liquify when you use a vitamix. I have a ton of recipes. But the key is having a Vitamix. I have the nutribullet & NInja and these don't even compare to the Vitamix. For a late night snack when I'm dying for a mega fast dessert, I just add 2 cups of frozen berries and 1/2 of a frozen banana and voila you have strawberry icecream. It literally is creamy and you really think there is cream or milk in it but it's just fruit. Want more recipes, let me know. I have a ton that I love. :) Including a peanut butter chocolate chip icecream that's healthy!

    Yep, I started consuming broccoli sprouts daily a little under a month ago. I grew 12 jars of sprouts, then froze the sprouts in baggies. I put the frozen sprouts in a nutribullet with a little water, blend it, then chug it like a beer. Tastes like a combo of tea and lawn clippings. Not great, but doable and it takes only seconds to consume. I divided each jar into 2 baggies and I grew a Tablespoon and a half of seeds in each jar. Probably consuming a little more than Rhonda suggested each day.
    To up my game, I put mustard powder in a capsule, then take that capsule with the sprouts. Mustard powder contains myronasis, (sp?) so hopefully it’ll help Sulforaphane levels.
    I plan to continue this indefinitely. As of now, I have NOT gained super powers or reverted to a young version of myself. My goal is just to maintain my health as I age as much as I can. Research suggested I might avoid cancer and perhaps slow the aging process by consuming broccoli sprouts daily. Easy enough and it doesn’t require much time, so why not?
    I also drink a green smoothie each day packed with veggies and I exercise moderately several times a week, nothing fancy. Just body weight exercises.
    So, there you have it. I’ll be starting another 12 jars within a week to replentish my supply of frozen sprouts. Think I’ll divide each jar into 3 baggies this time, though, for 36 days worth instead of 24. Plan to sprout once a month to keep the freezer stocked.
    So, you asked and there you have it. Glad to see someone else doing this, as well.

    I do freeze mine because of Dr Rhonda Patrick’s research of how much more beneficial the sprouts are.
    My grandson, who is now 25 would put Broccoli Sprouts on almost everything. Even his Macaroni And Cheese.

      Check out Dr. Eric Berg's CZcams channel and learn about inflammation, insulin resistance, sugar (and the sugar content of fruit!!) and grains. I had all the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (I'm 61 now) a couple of years ago, did my own research, and now I'm completely pain-free after discovering it's the grains and ALL sugar I have to eliminate from my diet, and bring in lots more green leafy vegetables and healthy fats, along with a moderate amount of protein. Dr. Berg's videos explain ALL of that and I'm eternally grateful to him. He's where I heard about broccoli sprouts, and he's a fan of broccoli sprouts, but I heard much more detail about them on this video. We can learn from everyone! Best of luck to you with taking care of your own health. Dr. Berg also has a few videos on his theories of Alzheimer's and dementia...related to, you guessed it, eliminating sugars and grains, which will eliminate insulin resistance. Just about everything that's going wrong with our bodies he can trace back (scientifically) to insulin resistance.

I have not been able to find any sprouts in our local stores so I miss them terribly, but NOW I can grow my own thanks to YOU!! I will order some and start again. You are such a beautiful woman and so gentle in your teaching videos, I have learned so much, I just turned 56 and have never had to wear makeup until after I turned 50 but never knew how to apply it …. Most of the health benefits of broccoli sprouts come from their high level of Glucoraphanin, which the body converts into Sulforaphane. Broccoli, Cauliflower, Kale, and Cabbage also do the same :-)

  • @rvdt4ever
    @rvdt4ever Před 3 lety

    Hello ladies😂. Just want to add some additional information that might be of use:
    1) In addition to freezing, you can also (or additionally) pour hot water of around 70 degrees C over the sprouts and leave it for 10 minutes. Been shown to boost sulforaphane in the chewed product by even more than freezing. I actually do the hot water and then freeze them, although I haven’t seen any research of doing both. The hot water will make the sprouts soggy if you just put them in the fridge afterwards. Best temperature for freezing seems to be around -20 degrees C.
    2) Just to be extra safe, I always sterilize the seeds for 5-10 minutes in household bleach that I dilute with around 10 parts water. Household bleach is typically around 5-6% I think, so the sterilizing solution is well below 1%. Rinse extensively afterwards. Not sure if it’s necessary or not with organic seeds. Anyway, never have had any issues with sprouting doing it this way.
    Happy sprouting

    Thanks for this video. I've been sprouting broccoli for about 3 years. I use the 32oz jars from Walmart. To get the most Sulforaphane benefit I harvest at the end of the 3rd-day (they don't look green, more white & tan) and freeze them in a zip lock bag. I make a small smoothie with 15 grams weighed on a scale of sprouts and some cranapple juice each day. I learned by trial & error more than 15 grams of these sprouts at once result in a colon cleanse effect. Your results may vary!

    I am a big sprouts fan! They are the easiest to grow too. You just put them in your kitchen cabinet and keep the kitchen warm. You can grow them on a damp paper towel in a plastic container with a perforated wax paper lid rubber banded to the top. You just rinse them a few times a day for a few days. It is so easy. Then, just put them in the sun to green them.

    Wow! Great info! I’d like people to know that there are chemicals in vegetables that many people cannot tolerate. Oxalates, antinutrients etc. Oxalates actually cause crystals to form in organs. Very bad for health! After an elimination diet I added different vegetables slowly. I found there were many vegetables that affected my moods as well as my IBS. Eliminating these has resulted in total elimination of my Bipolar symptoms. I’m so happy and now! I have a life! My family are no longer stressed by my illness!

    • @juliedaniels5594
      @juliedaniels5594 Před 3 lety +1

      @@indigoglo after a few months I started trying some veggies. Not because they have vitamins and other nutrients. The fact is all of those are far more bioavailable in meat than vegetables. Meat also has all the amino acids required for a healthy gut. I tried some again because I enjoy veggies and was loath to give them up.
      Anyway the first vegetable I tried was zucchini (corgettes to some?). I had a whole large zucchini steamed. Next morning I was down and angry for no reason. Mmm. Couldn’t be that bad a reaction??? Tried them again a week later and once again the mood swings. A third try convinced me never to eat them again! I believe the seeds are the problem.
      So, now? I never eat zucchini’s, mushrooms, tomatoes, any of the nightshade family, very little onion, a small amount of pumpkin and cauliflower, sometimes fresh asparagus. I watch for mood swings but also how they affect my IBS.
      In the end you will have to experiment on yourself. Look up veggies with high Oxalates and antinutrients
      Best of luck!🥰

    Hello my sister and myself have been growing broccoli sprouts for about a year now and LOVING it...however, in the warm summer months, we are finding that our sprouts are molding before they are done growing and we harvest them. We haven't had good sprouts in a couple months now and we miss them!

    • @fabulous50s
      @fabulous50s  Před 4 lety

      Hi Barbara! The temperature of the tap water you are using is a factor to consider as warmer water for rinsing makes it more like for mould to grow. Cold water may do the trick. Try sterilising the containers before use and make sure they are stored where there is plenty of air circulation. An extra rinse a day might also help ❤️ I hope you are able to get a fresh batch soon 🙏
