  • Large diameter Y pipe installed. Here's a compilation videos of several cold and warm start ups with revs. The exhaust sounds a bit deeper. I haven't felt much of a performance difference but I plan on tuning it.

    How is the drone with both of these exhaust mods?

    So is this just a muffler delete and a y pipe? Or did you do something with the mid pipe?

    Did the y pipe make a big difference in sound?

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 4 lety +2

      It's more throatier and deeper in tone, especially at cold starts. Warm starts sound about the same. Cabin noise is also about the same.
      The exhaust pops, when they happen, are also slightly more noticeable now as well.

    Did your Y pipe line up with stock mid pipe......the collector of my y pipe which is 3 inch was way bigger than what’s on the stock mid pipe causing me to have a Exhaust leak

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 3 lety +1

      It lined up fine for me because the flange was very similar in size, although there was a step off in terms of pipe diameter that might be the causing a leak. I sandwiched both the old gasket and the new gasket that came with the y pipe to make sure I had a good enough seal. I've since installed a new custom exhaust system that has a new 3" mid pipe to mate properly with the 3" collector of the y pipe.
      In my view, it doesn't make sense to install a new y pipe with 3" collectors only to have it mate with a collector that's 2.x". That sudden restriction is bound to cause performance-robbing back pressure.

    does the y pipe make it louder than w only a muffler delete? and is it big difference or not that much

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 4 lety

      Very minor difference. Slightly deeper note. In retrospect, I don't think getting the Y pipe was worthwhile considering I am planning to get custom 2.5" piping cat back. Fabricator would have been able to put in similar piping for less than the $130 I paid.
      Even if you aren't getting a cbe in the future, the 3" collector of the Y pipe suddenly tapers down to the stock collector that is smaller, Im sure that isn't great for optimal flow. Only get this if your stock y pipe flex joints are rusted through and you need a replacement.

    • @huhSHUA
      @huhSHUA Před rokem +1

      @@SteU4IAso you think the stock y pipe would be better bc of the size difference? And did you mean the shop can make there own y pipe or add 2.5 inch pipes?

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před rokem

      Yea, either stick with the stock Y pipe or just get a complete Cat back system/custom set up.
      Those aftermarket Y pipes all have weak flex pipes that will break and start leaking AND the random change in size from big back to small doesn't help with flow.

    • @huhSHUA
      @huhSHUA Před rokem +1

      @@SteU4IA oh I see. I mainly wanted it bc it sounds deeper and I already have a muffler delete also seemed like a cheap exhaust mod, didn’t want to spend to much and have something too loud. So the flow makes it sound different or perform different?
      What if I just added bigger pipes to the mid pipe like a 3 inch would that help?

      Yes, midpipe is still stock. The y pipe does have a inner diameter of 2.5 inch.

    Off topic question but what are your wheel specs ??

    • @SteU4IA
      @SteU4IA  Před 4 lety

      I run the stock 17 (painted black) with my winter tires (225 55 17) and 17x7.5 +40 aftermarket wheels for summer all seasons (235 55 17). But I always have 20mm and 25mm spacers, front and back respectively, at all times.
      My plan is to do the bbk upgrade and go 19" with 265 tires eventually. I'll try to get the offset and width so it's similar to what it looks like currently, but without need for spacers.

      @@SteU4IA your car sounds good! 19s and 265 series tires with a q50s is gonna make it lots slower. If I ever put any wheels on mine q50s I'm going with lightweight 18x8.5. Unless acceleration wouldn't bother you
