  • Here is the play through for Adventure 1 (Well Met) and the use of the Invisible Overlord cards that came in the Adventure's Companion expansion.
    Please take into consideration that I am still learning how to really use the cards, so it is an evolving process. Hopefully by Part 2 I will have a better understanding of the card mechanics and a correction for all the mistakes I made during this part. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Hope you enjoy the video.
    Spot any mistake made along with the time-stamp and I will add in a text line correction as well as give you personal credit for finding the mistake(s).

      So my goal at this current point in time is to try and get out one video a week. Maybe there will be more in the future but it is the best I can offer right now. The weekends are my best time for it.

    Good vid, man. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my own solo run going with this. Quick A.I. question; the "Pin" directive states "Move so that as many Heroes as possible are in the front arc of one or more of the Overlord's models". This would be applied to the directives of the Overlord's card, which focuses on Spellcasters and Unarmored. I understand moving the topmost skeleton toward the spellcaster to fulfill the "as many Heroes as possible" statement, but as the other two were in the same room as an unarmored(two or less armor) Hero, both being in range to put Orlaf in their front arc, wouldn't at least one of them have to do so? My meaning being that if the closest skeleton to a target made the attempt to pin that target, then the other skeletons were freed up to put "as many Heroes as possible" of the Spellcaster or Unarmored type in their front arc. Or, do the rules state that the order of the targets on the Overlord's card is an absolute priority, or that the combination of the types listed form a priority, or to what degree a Hero applicable to a listed type fits into that type(wizard being armor 1, barbarian armor 2 for unarmored, and the wizard being a spellcaster) determines the priority, rather than it simply being a list of possible targets effected by the directive? Or do the rules leave it to the player's discretion? In any case, it seems a fairly important distinction in regards to the AI mechanism here, as it might cause a lot of directing minions away from viable targets, which I think was starting to frustrate you a bit by the end of the vid.
    If they do leave it to the player's discretion, I might suggest using the types of Heroes given on the Overlord's card as just a listing of possible targets, and then use the attacking unit's range to the possible targets as the determining factor, as long as a fair attempt was made to complete the listed directive on at least one of all the possible targets.
    Anyway, good luck, and have fun with it!

      Kind of threat: Unarmored: any Hero with 1 or 2 Armour. This applies to Madriga (2), Orlaf (2) and Danor (1). They get +3 Threat. Then we calculate threat from spellcasting: only Danor is a Spellcaster. Total: Danor's threat of 6 beats Madriga's and Orlaf's 3s. So Danor is the Hero with the higher threat. No tie here. But, according to the rules, thread is significant only when the order on the card is "Attack". The pin rule says: "Move so that as many Heroes as possible are in the front arc of one or more of the Overlord's models. When all the Heroes are in at least one front arc, start doubling up. Spread the attention as evenly as possible to pin all the Heroes in Fights. This allows the Overlord to bring his (usually) greater numbers to bear." According to the rules "move" is not "raise". And there isn't any mention to "threat". So moving skeletons instead of raising new ones is a good interpretation. If threat is not involved I agree to try to put as many Heroes as possible in the fray. But I haven't understood why the skeleton archer has used 3 dice (as ranged combat) in melee instead his 2 combat dice, knowing that a model can't shoot if he is in the front arc of an enemy.

    Great video, I must admit I've been struggling with these solo rules as well, I was just wondering, did you shuffle in the Overlord type (Orc, Necromancer, etc) cards into the IO deck as well? It's not very clear in the rules!!

    • @giovannizotti8549
      @giovannizotti8549 Před 6 lety

      In the rules is told that you have to shuffle in the right kind of Overlord cards. For example the rise dead for the Necromancer and so on. This still stands when you use Uncharted Dungeon too: before all you have to select an Overlord, and this determines the kind of minions.

      It's totally worth it. It adds so much content that reminds me to the Roleplaying Book of clssic Warhammer Quest. And contrary to some people, I like the Invisible Overlord rules. Using them with some logic they add a lot of variety to an AI overlord behaviour. I combine it with the Event deck to place traps in every tile. I draw a card to check if the tile has map traps, and in affirmative case, I shuffle two blank trap counters with one random trap counter, and I place them in a way to force the hereoes to go through them as much as possible. Great expansion.

    So in what order do I buy the dungeon saga series IF I plan on playing mostly solo campaigns. Are there downloadable campaigns for solo players. I would at least get the base game plus an expansion. Also why a printed campaign" where would you find this. Sorry ton of questions

    • @JoshHGamingCorner
      @JoshHGamingCorner  Před 7 lety +1

      +jeremy howard in order to play the game solo, you need to buy the base game "A dwarf kings quest" and the "adventures companion" expansion. I would start with that and play a little bit before getting any of the other expansions. I do not believe there are any downloadable campaigns that have been published. I am playing through the base game campaign solo as we speak and so far it lends it self pretty good to that.

    • @jhowd78
      @jhowd78 Před 7 lety +1

      I noticed you have a little rules explanation sheet or sheets for the overlord commands are those sheets copies from the companion book or a quick reference guide from somewhere. Thank you for helping me out

    • @JoshHGamingCorner
      @JoshHGamingCorner  Před 7 lety +1

      jeremy howard the original Adventure's Companion book printing was riddled with errors throughout the book. The released a revised edition as a PDF download. That is what you are seeing in the video. You can download the PDF just by doing a search for it online. You will still need the deck of Invisible Overlord cards to go along with that.

    • @giovannizotti8549
      @giovannizotti8549 Před 6 lety +1

      Return of Valandor expansion introduces ancient Heroes/Bosses (almost Gods) to play alongside the base game. With some new missions to play. You need the core game.
      Galahir expansion is the expansion with Orcs.
      To play "the black Fortress" you need the core game, the Galahir expansion (for orcs, rules and the boss) alongside dungeon critters and a model to represent the princess (I suggest the King of War "Elven Mage" that is the model suggested according to the silhouette in the map - and of course "Dungeon Saga: Flagstones Bases".
      The Infernal abyss expansion is useful to play the eye of abyss expansion because in that new expansion you need other abyssals.
      So I suggest to buy Tyrant of Halpi and Valandor together, because they only need the core set.
      Then buy together the Orcs expansions (Galahir and the Black Fortress), and buy together the abyss expansions (Infernal Crypts and Eye of the Abyss).
      But the best of the game comes from the Adventurer's Companion, so feel free to buy all king of wars miniatures you like and a ton of "Dungeon Saga: Flagstones Bases".
      If you are a Kickstarter backer and you have gotten the Journal, you could retain some (25) Mantic Points to get the human druid (Keris, Shaarlyot and Dogs). Then buy "Goblin sneek", "Grokagamok" (and base it on one of the two large bases included in the flagstones bases set", because the ogre has the rule "Large"), and the Battle Driller. I have bought other tons of minis, only to expand this awesome game!

    So can this be used to play the first game solo?

    • @JoshHGamingCorner
      @JoshHGamingCorner  Před 4 lety +1

      tubeisace yes the invisible overlord cards are used to control all of the baddies in the dungeon. It evens controls interrupts and such. While it isn’t the most intuitive AI out there, it does an okay job. I ended most of the time just trying to make the decisions that would be most detrimental to the heroes.

  • @Heraclatian
    @Heraclatian Před 6 lety

    I dove into this a year ago and bought everything I could find lol. It's great, like a slightly smarter heroquest. The ai cards confuse me tho. Does the enemy always attack regardless, or if a card dictates to block doors or pin does that mean don't attack, which makes no sense to me. I've found most ai actions just result in moving enemy and attacking. It's the only convoluted part of the game.

    • @JoshHGamingCorner
      @JoshHGamingCorner  Před 6 lety +1

      +Ryan Stoned
      This was my one and only complaint about the AI. If you keep watching the play throughs you will see after awhile that I pretty much scrape most of the AI instructions and make decisions based on what I think a good Overlord player would do.

    • @Heraclatian
      @Heraclatian Před 6 lety

      Josh H Gaming Corner thanks! Im watching part 2 now. I think an if than type of ai would be more practical. If heroes are x away, than enemy does y. Much like galaxy defenders. Super dungeon explores forgotten king suffers somewhat from this issue as well, although I still find that solo less blurry than DS. Great vids.

    • @SoloClub123

      It's ok if you don't see the point in solo play. There are many reasons that many people are solo players. Many games on the box will say 1-# of players so clearly it isn't the whole point to play with friends. There are many games that you might not be aware of that play solo.
      Also, a board game and a video game are completely different experiences. Sometimes I want to roll dice, feel cards, move pieces on the board instead of just clicking my mouse and keyboard.

      While I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion , I would like to know how you came to formulate yours? Have you tried solo play and didn't like it ? If so, then which games? As others have already stated there are games made specifically for 1 player so your statement that "the whole point of it is to play with ur friends" is not strictly true.
