Does anyone else hit the thumbs up, before watching the video? I know I do
Yessss girl yessss👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️
Yes ma'am 😇
I do. 😮
I do you can't go wrong with the videos.
ALWAYS
When I was little, my mother used to make a pasta and tuna casserole. If I remember correctly, there was cream of mushroom soup in it and on top she sprinkled cheese, and on top of the cheese, she put crushed potatoes chips!😋 We didn't even know it was an economic meal.
Sticker shock is very relatable. 😂 I’ve been known to say, “That’s a lot of dollars!” in the middle of a store to no one in particular.
Me 😂
For all of the reasons that you mentioned, you should reconsider taking on the Dollar General. I work at one in California, and I hear every day that it has been a God send for our community. The prices are crazy, still many individuals on disability and families receiving SNAP benefits depend on it for all of their needs. -I believe that taking on the Dollar General as a challenge is right up your alley; a DG challenge would support your message of making meals and filling bellies achievable for all people, especially those that struggle.
My dollar general increased their prices by a dollar or more than the other stores in my area.
There were a lot of empty shelves at mine. I want to think I could have had a better time if it was fully stocked.
@@SouthernFrugalMomma my DG has been empty on a lot of the cheaper items for months. I do occasionally get some good deals, especially on non food items and out of season items.
All those people must be delusional because there is absolutely nothing affordable in there. If you're on a tight budget I would rather go to the dollar tree or 99cent store! Dollar general is Ridiculously high priced for low budget things they carry
I think a challenge between a meal bought at Dollar Tree vs. the same meal items bought at Dollar General would put tge price differences in perspective for many people. l am sorry that so many people live in remote areas and are forced to buy their food and other household items at Dollar General - especially the elderly and those on extremely tight budgets - there is no way they can afford enough food for an entire month on already very small, fixed incomes.
Thank you for doing these videos. Your son's are the absolute cutest (and so polite)!😊
Can never go wrong with ADOBO!!!!
The way Ryder looked at you while taking a second bite said it all! Have a fantastic weekend y’all!
He loved it and had seconds 😂 hope your weekend is great!!
Been there. Done this. Cheap nutritious meal. I had $15/week for 5 months for me and my two young children in 1992 going through a nasty custody battle. He gave me zero money! Tuna, cheese, fish sticks, rice, bread, milk, diapers, apple juice. Washed clothes and sheets in the tub and hung them in the bathroom. Noodles and butter. Eggs. Bare minimum for five months. I asked him for milk money and he held out some change! I said forget it!
Little hack to get all of the cheese sauce out of the packets for mac n cheese... Open one short end of the packet, put it in the pot with the drained macaroni. While holding the closed end up by the brim of the pot, put the pot lid on and hold it down, then pull the cheese packet out of the pot. Works really well! :D
Looks yummy! Our Dollar General is also surrounded by fields lol but we’re SOOOO glad they put it in a couple years ago in our tiny town. I go there all the time. I’d say half the prices are comparable to Walmart but the other half are higher. It’s ok though because it saves me a trip 20 miles away. 👍🏻
I love that "Am I in California?" I have found that we have some of the very best grocery prices here in the Sacramento Valley, and I subscribe to grocery fliers from all over just to see where we sit. Right now, 80% lean ground beef is on offer for $1.99/lb, asparagus for $0.99/lb, chicken leg quarters for $0.69/lb and avocados for $0.88 ea and this is at a National store. I was looking at your Dollar General prices, and you could do quite well here. Now the housing market... is another story.
😂 I have had a lot of viewers from California Tell me that their prices are almost double what we have. So I was like, this must be what they deal with!
I saw this before I was heading to the store, so I purposed to check the prices. At my Walmart in NC, 80% lean ground beef is $5.94#, leg quarters are $.67# in a 10# bag, asparagus is $2.98#, and avocados are $.68 each. That avocado price is amazing!!
@@SouthernFrugalMomma It's probably where they are. We are abundantly blessed in the Sacramento Valley with some of the richest and most productive farmland in the world, and we have access to wonderful produce at very good prices. And of course, shopping the loss leaders helps a great deal.
my mom's stove top tuna noodle recipe = a bag of cooked egg noodles, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 2 cans tuna 1 in oil 1 in water(juice included). all combined in 1 pot. and usually greenbeans and canned fruit on the side
If you buy a tiny thing throughout the week, they give you a $5 off of $20 coupon for Saturdays. So if hubby grabs a soda on the way home... I have a coupon to use on expensive things there LOL. I've done it once, because of serious sticker shock 😮
I have used the coupon to stock up on ground beef and canned veggies when they were on sale. Coupon is also digital
That coupon $5 off $25 is always in the app. Just save it to your account and you dont need to buy anything to get it. They have good digital coupons in the app as well
Apparently, Dollar General is the best argument for planning ahead.
Amen to that
Your boys seem so kind. Good job!
Thank you!! They are sweetie pies
Same with the Dollar Generals here 🤦♀️ When I get out of the store I feel like I just found my way out of a maze!
Yup. Same in NY...like they are unloading those stuck ships😅
@@bethdurbin3203 🤣
I live in a very different country in a very different part of the world, and I still enjoy and find these videos useful! Thank you.
I love Braden's voice he has a little squeak in his voice when he says that's really good. Blessings that meal looks delicious
You can't go wrong with tuna casserole. The way I make it was a recipe off of a box of cheap mac and cheese. My kid loved this as well as cheap tomato 🍅 soup and grilled cheese or spaghetti. Veggies included!!!
My husband and I like baked tuna, pasta, peas with mayo. Gotta make that. Sometimes I put grated parm in and/or on top. It's a nice warm meal.
I share your sticker shock every time I shop! Insane. Great meal and video.
We add frozen peas to our tuna noodle casserole because I prefer the taste of those to the canned peas. Yours looks delish!
Just used your technique for cooking pasta. Putting the pasta right in the pot of water and turn it on. It turned out so good. Thanks for this video. Love watching you. You are so real and happy.
Good Morning Beautiful Friend!!!!! I really needed your "sunshine" today. It has already been a not so good morning. You have pulled me out of the darkness and I thank you for that. You are the best; I love seeing your face weekly. You always put a smile on my face. Have a great day. Much love to you and your awesome family.!!
I hope your day tomorrow is great!! Thank you for being so amazingly kind! 💜
I grew up with my parents having a garden back in KS and mom would can a lot of it. When we moved to AZ we moved a lot of home canned produce with us and dad put a garden in our backyard that year too and mom canned the green beans too. So for a few years we had our home canned green beans and when we ran out and mom started buying them in an actual can my brother and I wouldn’t eat them because they tasted so different and it took us awhile to start eating them. I still prefer fresh whenever I can get them.
I love that Dollar General still has a $1 only isle. I like to get my bleach there, shampoo and hair conditioner too. Sometimes there are some nice finds.
As soon as I saw Dollar General, I was like UH OH!! Lol. They are so pricey! And I went to a DG Market for the first time yesterday -- holy cow, WAY expensive produce.😑You rocked this, especially with DG prices!!
This is helpful because many of us have no choice but to shop at dollar general.
I have to agree with you on the Dollar General in my area as well. The way we have avoided shopping there is to just plan our shopping trips once a month. I give myself a budget for the month, plan the meals for the month, write down all I need for the meals and then look at the ads for that week making note of any sales that are items on my list. Once I plan the trip all out, I head out with the list and what I am going to purchase at each store. We make a day of it and love it. Then once I get home, I place the ingredients for the planned meals in containers with the meal I am going to make with it, keeping in mind to use up pantry items I already have and LITTERALLY plot those meals out on a calendar. Yea, I do that and have for years. Keep in mind I had 8 foster kids moving though my house over the years. As they got older and moved out I slowly reduced the amount of groceries I bought but I still do the planning.
Garlic bread with every meal!!! Breakfast, lunch, dinner😋😋😋
I went to an IGA a few towns over today. It was a lovely afternoon and a drive through the country so worth the gas . I found 4 packages of Alfresco brand Chicken, Apple, Maple Syrup Sausages for just $2.50 each - 6 sausages per package so I spent $10 and saved $10.00. Then I purchased a deli sandwich Italian also on clearance for $2.00 that all came to $12 something. A real blessing as the sausages can be frozen and then used in so many different meals. Scrambled Eggs, in a Casserole, Soup, Stirfry, a Pasta dish etc . I have said it before and am saying it again I ❣ love this series !
That’s actually pretty good deals!!!
I was pleased !
I hit the thumbs up before I watch. They are always good. God bless
Thank you!!!
Thanks for taking the time to talk about Food Deserts and food scarcity/availability.
In the UK we have the Pound shop which USED to sell everything at £1 or 2 for £1 and now nothing is £1 - oxymoron! Should be called multi dollar general
We have the Dollar Tree here in the US. Everything used to be $1.00.
Aww. I spy something that I want some recipe ideas for in the background.
Can we do a series on shelf stable ingredient to make meals?
I have found some cheap by the case Betty Crocker products. They have these boxes of dried potato slices that I have been looking for meal ideas on. I also have #10 cans of the dried sliced potatoes. And I have some 10 pound buckets of the dried sliced potatoes.
We are all price shocked. But I am counting on you to be there as it gets worse with ,frugal ,doable meal ideas. Thank you and God Bless you and your beautiful family.
I do work at several Dollar General stores are the same way......no employees to put product away.😢
Hey Brooke u can use mixed veggies with the tuna and cream of chicken soup and add noodles and it taste like chicken pot pie I promise it does
Ohhhh I’m intrigued by this! I may try it soon!
I like this idea!
I been making that since I was a little kid!! Seriously. Love it!! Make it into a casserole and you can add things like cream of yada - your choice and some French fried onions to the top = YUM!!😍👍
Something that is so yummy is lemon pepper seasoning and butter on canned green beans ❤
Bestie, i absolutely love your family!!!
We love you!!!!
@@SouthernFrugalMomma I love you more!! 😍 lol
I've been making something my kids nicknamed STUFF...it's one pound of pasta, one can of corn, one can of tuna and mayo....salt and pepper is up to you. I have used whole or cream style corn. They loved it and now my grands ask me to make it all the time. You can eat it hot or cold.
I love watching your videos. Your boys are so sweet and polite. I have tried several of your recipes.
I always hit it before l watch l am retired but these videos remind me raising my kids and l get great tips that l can use some recipes l use where struggle meals my grandson thinks they are great he is grown you are a great person love your family ❤
My DG is the same but it’s because they are always understaffed I used to work at DG and the cashier is made to stock shelf’s reset shelf’s which is pulling the older product forward and also run the cash register so if there busy they have no chance to do anything that’s why I defend them when I here people giving them a hard time and yelling at them because they truly are doing there best
Let's help this momma get more views. Just share. Love her videos
That dinner looked REALLY good. I'm going to have to remember that one.
Wonderful Brooke. That Mac and Cheese looks delicious.
I love your honesty, awesome video, thanks
Love your nightgown my colors and patterns
Wow you make a great meal. We don't go to our dollar general because it's to expensive.
I am sure that adobo had something to do with it being good! Never met someone who loved adobo as much as my mama!! 😂 I love that you are not shy with your seasonings! Stay blessed 💕
to pair with mac n cheese--you might get vienna sausage and cut them up (99 cents per can)...dts/usa
You are such a joy to watch.
I think dollar general food prices are crazy now so is family dollar. This looks yummy!
Agree with being thankful that dollar General pop up in hayfield. My area has 1 literally in a hayfield & is a life saver for necessities. I stop there for elders & praise them for being there.
We have 2 of the Dollar General markets in my area and I have to say I was impressed by their options and prices. I love that they have fresh produce and actual protein options. So while I know and understand exactly what you are meaning ,I am thankful that we have them in our area.
I’m going to go to the DG Market next time I’m near it. I hope they are better on the wallet than the regular DG.
Looks Absolutely DELICIOUS!!😋 Looove Brayden's reaction!😊🤗😊
I'm in Massachusetts and there are several of the Dollar Generals that are the same way a total mess. It is a fire trap!
I know it's not your favorite place to shop but I would love to see more of these Dollar General budget meal videos. People love the DG for the convenience. I think a whole series would be a hit on your channel.
I love your pasta fork/stirrer!
Thank you so much for this video. I didn't know the reason was such a thing as that size cheese packeds.
Thank you for showing your sticker shock!! Its so relatable.
-brandons wife
“Am I in California?” Ha ha that made me laugh. I am in CA & some of those prices seemed high to me too. Our family usually shops at Grocery Outlet, Winco, & Costco.
You are good at what you do!!! -Brandons wife
Tuna noodle casserole...veggies and dessert.
If you don't care for adding peas or green beans to your cheesy tuna noodles, try adding a can of corn (drained), or a can of diced tomatoes. I personally do not drain the tomatoes, but it is up to you. Tomatoes go very well with tuna and with Mac and cheese. Thank you, Brooke.
I didn’t think about tomatoes! That sounds great! I’ll try that!
mac n cheese, frozen peas and tuna - cheap tuna casserole. My kids love it and it's cheap!
We only go to Dollar General for specific items like chocolate syrup, powders for adding to water to make lemonade or the like. While there it is fun to look through unusual stuff. I did buy some leggings 2 for $10.
Great video!!🎉 we live in small town around 240 people and we only have a Dollar General and iGA so when I buy groceries I drive 25 minutes to next town to go shop at Walmart, it’s rough with prices but if I need something fast is the only time we go to Dollar General ours shuts down every day at like 4 or 5 since Covid and prices not to mention the boxes like you said, I would rather do Iga which is pricey too😞 but most the time cheaper than DG
Those prices were really high.
Looks lovely 👍🙏
Brooke
My dg is expensive for food. We buy milk there but usually non food items. Thank you for sharing the prices.
But you did it for $9!!! Fantastic 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Dollar General is ridiculous where I live in upper Michigan! I really felt you on this one girl. 😩
Yay for da Yooper!!
Brooke you did the best you could and still come out with a great meal !! God Bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻
I walked into a Dollar General....and I walked right out again! And I've never gone back! WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! I've heard that once a month they put things on sale (I believe on a Saturday?) But I just can't be bothered with that!
Just stumbled upon your channel and can I just say...I love how real you are! Just subscribed :)
You are so much fun! It did look good!
Hello aunt southern momma. I'm a big fan of your cooking. I just commented your channel name (with some other channels also) to someone who is struggling. You are great. Keep this up and help us coz we need ya😁. Love you❤😄
I love that you record videos in your pajamas!
I wonder what mac and cheese would taste like if you topped it with stuffing and baked it in the oven.
Probably tastes like pure heaven 😂
I live in Alabama and my dg is the same way piled up. I love ur videos
I used to work at DG and it is insane how many deliveries we got, and all the stores get. They don't hire stockers, you have to cashier and stock the insanity. I was a manager and would stay after hours unpaid getting caught up. Yes the prices are not the best right now but you made a great haul, better than I would of 😊
Wow, those prices were awful. Good job creating a good meal for your family❤
DG has limited employees, like 1 or 2. They are expensive and their selection is limited but they do in a pinch.
I don't have a dollar general in my area, but I do have a Grocery Outlet, which is even better.
I was blessed today shopping at Fred Myers ( you have Kroger) got 3lbs of 80/20 ground beef for 4.50, 3 red mesh bags of produce for 1 dollar each. I bag had 2 green peppers 1 red. The next 6 tomatoes and last 4 apples. Roast beef 7oz. For sandwiches 2.49. 12 grain bread 1.38. Huge sandwich rolls 8 for 1.68 all clearance prices except the 2lbs of strawberries for 3.99. This isn't the store I usually go to. But just happened to stop by on a whim and was blessed with these bargains. I've found some steals before at Dollar General before also tho on a whole they cost more.
I went into our Dollar General this week in NC and I had the same feelings as you. I couldn't believe some of the prices.
Great job!! Dollar General is a tough one for a regular shop. I do my shopping there on Saturday to take advantage of the $5 off $25 I stock up on Campbell's Soup many are only a dollar and larger sizes than the ones in grocery store. I also discovered the Armour Hot Dog chili from another viewer is only a dollar, I think it's a larger can than the one at Walmart, which is always out of stock. Another good buy for me is the Heinz 57 sauce 5 ounces for $1 the 20 ounce bottle at my Walmart is $6.98 we like the sauce on chicken, pork and beef. Keep up with the great ideas.
I agree DG is high unless there is a sale. If you go over home, there is one surrounded by a cow field 😂
I watch jamerrell a lot! Love her. And she has an Uber large family! Thanks. And maybe they will bring us a store. We finally got bucc eez
I'd love to see you make one meal and show how much it would cost at each store.
I love this idea!!
He fainted I love him🤗❤️😇❤️😊❤️
I think if I felt like I was going to be a little short on the garlic bread I would cut it into "sticks." I know it's still the same amount but somehow it just seems like more.
"Am I in California?" LMAO seriously. Those prices are insane and I'm in southern California
❤thank you so much looks very good ❤
I haven't been to mine in years. There's one here on the main strip of town and another one 8 miles away across from a cemetery and beside the fire hall.
Brooke, I hear you about the green beans. I only have a small DG in a cow field in my zip code with bigger stores 15 minutes away. We still have frozen broccoli, green beans, etc. In $1 bags which tastes way better than canned vegetables. I get more broccoli for the money if I buy tthe kind with stalks.
We have a new Dollar Store and it is more expensive than Walmart and Hyvee. And it is a Dollar mart
We put tuna in our mac and cheese too as well as peas
Our DG's are the same way!! Especially with dairy and eggs. Digiorno pizzas go on sale pretty regularly, so that's a good find. I like their seasonal decor and garden stuff. They're great to have but yes, some prices are a bit high.
You Dollar General sounds like mine. It must be a nation-wide problem. It's because they are understaffed! If only they would add a few more employees, they would make more money and not be robbed so often. I would love to shop there more frequently, because it is like a mini Walmart. Gone are the good old days for EVERYTHING, it seems.
