I learned the "pantry theory" from my Mom. We lived in the middle of nowhere and she kept a well-stocked pantry for everyday and emergencies. It was a habit I adopted and it has served me well over the years (I'm 76). You are doing such a service for those responsible for feeding their families. I never had chickens because we've always lived in a city where the city codes didn't allow them. You can bet if I could have, I would have! You've sold me for sure! Your garden is fabulous! I also enjoy watching you and Rusty work as a couple for the best life you can provide for your children. You're a great American family!
"Are you showing my toes for free?" I spat my coffee! 😂😂😂
He is a hoot 😂 he cracks us all up
I was laughing so hard my manager called me from her office to ask me if I was ok!
My grandmother used to make Creamed Eggs on Toast. You make a white cream sauce, and instead of chipped beef, you add cut up hard boiled eggs and serve over toast. She was a depression baby raised on a farm with her 12 siblings.
My gamma made this and called it golden rod regs because we crumbled the yolks on top
My mom made the same thing! This is so good!
Make Quiche out of your eggs. 😋 😋 😋
I haven't had that in years! Yum!
My Aunt made that and called it Eggs Goldenrod. She crumbled the yolks on top and served it over toast or English muffins.
Ryder’s outrage at free feet content is the right level of outrage 😂😂😂😂
He is so funny. He has us all laughing our booty’s off lol
@@SouthernFrugalMomma his response was totally not what I expected at all 😂 made my entire day honestly
Great prep. My stock up this week was actually $6. I found 3lb packages of ground beef for $1.50. So I grabbed 4. They were still in date.
As a Brit I can't believe nobody wants your eggs. We don't wash our eggs like you and so they don't need to be kept in a fridge. Would love your eggs. Have you tried mixing eggs with cottage cheese salt pepper and put it in a flan dish and bake in the oven on low to medium heat. You can add anything to it like mushrooms, peppers, ham etc. Really nice and healthy goes well with salad. Love watching you and your family even if I do think egg and sausage with pancakes is weird. ❤
If anyone near me was gracious enough to spare some extra fresh eggs, I would be so happy to receive them! I loved the trick of cooking a large quantity of eggs on a sheet pan and then cutting them to size. I'm going to try that today.
I would pay for your fresh eggs!😂 So many states apart 😢
I would take them too in a heartbeat!!!
This can be done and spread out on a parchment lined baking sheet. Once frozen put in a freezer bag. If you can find the patty size cut parchment paper (I have found at Dollar Tree) you can stack the frozen cooked eggs with one in between if not I get the parchment sheets and cut them down. Works out great. The stay good in a freezer bag for awhile as long as the air is kept out of the bag. If this makes sense.
I was on a 5 day trip to a large city (for work), wow, the variety of food discounts down there (Aldi, Sav a lot, Kroger & others)! I had a large cooler, so I filled it (& the trunk of my car) for $245! Cha Ching! I'm canning, dehydrating & freezing this wknd.😊
Great prepping, Brooke! I know y'all don't eat breakfast regularly, but these sure would make a quick lunch and dinner when your canning season starts. We love breakfast for dinner. Have a wonderful day
Me, too! I have fresh eggs overflowing from colanders and bowls. Nobody will take them; they are scared to find a baby chick in one. Fresh eggs are beautiful, they taste better and hold more nutritional value than store bought eggs.
As always, great vid. Thank you
A good tip I’ve learned for when you have an over abundance of eggs. You can freeze them. Yep, brake them in ice cubes trays, freeze then when they are solid just put them in a ziplock. When you’re chickens aren’t producing as many you still have reserve. If you want a perfect fried or sunny side up just place the frozen cube in a pan & cover. By the time it thaws, the white cooks without overcooking the yoke. It may even work for poached eggs but I’ve never tried.
Brooke you can freeze eggs for baking in ice cube trays. After they are frozen, put them in a ziplock bag. After they are frozen, they won’t stick together.
Hi Brooke, I get eggs from a food bank. You can bless a food bank near you. Love your family. 😊
Here are a few things I do with extra eggs. First, I make egg bites. Chop up some veggies you have in the house, get out a muffin pan and spray. Add a bit of each veggie, crack an egg on top, pinch of salt and pepper mix inside the little muffin cup with a toothpick and bake 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes until done and store in freezer or fridge as quick breakfast or snacks. Second: Simply boil up a couple of dozen as prep for adding to salads or making a quick egg salad. This one is especially good for older eggs. It is a good protein snack for the family when they get a burst of snacking.
Yes to the cold lunch freezer meals! That would be great!
Yes on the freezer lunches! I love to always have something prepped in the freezer just quick and easy to grab, heat and eat.
My favorite way to preserve eggs is to make and freeze cookie dough 🙂
lmao 😂
I bet those burritos would be amazing with a couple of tablespoons of salsa in the egg mix too.
You wrap better with one hand better than I can with two.
Collin was such a big help! So hard to believe you couldn't even give away the eggs! Many years ago I used to make Bisquicks impossible quiche recipe, basically it's the baking mix, eggs & milk poured over any ingredients, veggies, meat, cheese all baked up in a baking dish.
Kylen is his name 😊
I remember this. They had a bunch of "Impossible" recipes on the back of the box. They were so good. A great use of eggs.
😂 It's nice to see such a happy family. The kids laughing & joking around! $5 pantry challenge donated to church box (refried beans, small can shredded beef & a taco seasoning).
Canada 🇨🇦 Yes lunch freezer pacs …looking forward to that. Thank you for doing all these videos. As an elder lady you are teaching me and younger people too! I’m from Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦 BTW, so your videos are going far and wide! ❤
Fellow older Albertan here too! 🇨🇦
Love the food prep ideas. My 5 dollars this week was 5 1 gallons of water. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY ❤
Would love to see homemade hot pockets! So thankful for you and all of your ideas!
Also, I've had great success with water glassing eggs.
-Marlana
$5 food storage for this week is 2 cans of green beans, 2 cans of corn, garlic powder, onion powder, and bag of pinto beans. All from walmart in San Diego CA
That is a lot for $5
Your personality brightens my day! I love your channel ❤️
Thank you❤❤❤❤
I agree!😊❣️
@@SouthernFrugalMomma You're welcome 😊
I was a "Daddy's Girl" and LOVED planting a garden with him. We worked together well without even having to talk sometimes. Kylen will have special memories of planting a garden with his Mama! Love this video, your practical, positive personality & all your creative ideas. In fact, I "waffled" some strawberry cheesecake muffin mix this weekend & thought of you and your sweet family ❤
❤ Here I am almost 65 years old and you teach me some things you rock girl. Your family is very lucky to have you and we are lucky to have you on CZcams. God-bless and have an awesome Weekend❤ week.❤❤❤
When the pandemic started I started a group message with friends to share ideas to keep going. Now I’m encouraging them to do your $5/week pantry stock up, sharing pictures of what we each get and ideas of what to get to try and encourage everyone to do it. Thanks for the ideas and encouragement. I share your videos with them too.
When my sisters and i moved away from home, mom and grandma started our pantry for us.
I love your channel❤❤❤
Brooke
Love this series. You can send extra eggs to my house. I can not believe your neighbors or family would not be please with this gift of kindness. Freezer breakfast sandwiches was a great use. My husband and I love these. Great seeing you in the garden.
We getting into “egg season” too! 😆 Last summer we were having 8-12 DOZEN eggs a week from the chickens! We have 4.5 dozen in the fridge rn. Lots of breakfast sandwiches, quiches, omelettes….. 😁😄🥰
MORE FOOD STORAGE FRIDAYS!!! I think this might be my new favorite series. LOVE your channel
Oh my goodness, I would be doing a happy dance every time my chickens laid eggs! Thanks for putting aside your Friday emergency foods. It's so great for new preppers to see how fast it really builds up. I love those pancake breakfast sandwiches! You get more for your money using the pancakes over biscuits. You can always have breakfast for dinner once a week to use up what you have. (that will help the budget too!)
This video had all my favourite segments!
😍 a bit of Shop With Me, PREMIUM Chicken 🐔 😋 content, Gardening, Cooking, Food Preservation using your Freezer, using up Surplus
Brooke, you're firing 🔥 on all cylinders! Can't wait for more!
Sending love from Ontario 🇨🇦
Good Morning Beautiful Friend!!!! YES, please, do the lunch ones!!!! I need ideas, so burnt out on plain sandwiches.!!! Much Love to you and the Family!
Brooke, your yard, with your chickens, and upcoming vegetables, is amazing. I always say, I want to live like my great-grandparents lived. You are walking the walk, and talking the talk. Good for you!
I'm impressed with the one handed wrapping of the breakfast sandwiches.
Brooke. Could you please pin or whatever your video about the pantry meals you make in a gallon bag that all the ingredients are in there. Can’t seem to find it and I know I liked a lot of them. It’s something I want to put in a tub away for emergencies.
Would love to see that one as well!
Me too!
Never mind. Finally found them.
Ooooh, yes! Please make the homemade hot pockets! I am loving this series. Diane
I love that red bird bowl 😍 So cheery
I got 2 qts of 🍏 🥧 filling and 2 qts of laundry soap made to add to my inventory.
I bought 8 tomato plants ( 2 packs) and pack of green peppers ( 4 pepper plants) for $5.25
I have frozen extra eggs before. I just beat them up like I'm getting ready to make scrambled eggs. I freeze at this step. When defrosted I can use them to make scrambled eggs or use in baking. Just freeze in the portions you would use for your needs.
I completely agree with Ryder on the onion texture thing!! I like the taste of onion but biting into one is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I have done the breakfast sandwiches & burritos for my hubby & son (I have chickens also & get an over abundance of eggs too). They are just finishing off the last batch of breakfast burritos I did & now getting ready to so the sandwiches for them again.
I tried water glassing eggs last year. Followed all the directions. After 8 months, I decided to open them up to try. Omg.. the rotten egg smell was horrible. I threw out 122 eggs & was upset that I wasted so many eggs. Now with extra eggs, I just crack them, stir well & put into the freezer. Love all your videos!😊
I am retired I'm going to start using $20 a month to stock up. You really should write a few books you are a genius and hero. Yes I saw his toes for free. My life is complete now!
Such a sweet garden helper. How are Kylens quails doing?
Nice freezer stock up totally look forward to more ideas.
Brooke I hope you have an amazing Mother's Day filled with Blessings Memories Love and Laughter 💝❤
Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful Mother's, Grandmother's, Aunts, Foster Mothers, and Fur Momma's❤
Kylens quails went to a friends house. They have a huge quail run and we let them live there. They kept getting loose here. We ran after them Daily. It’s a wonder my neighbors dog didn’t eat them.
Thank you!!
@@SouthernFrugalMomma Oh my at least they're safe and with friends.
Happy Mother's Day ❤️❤️
We’re starting out with two raised beds for veggies this year! Never gardened before so this is new to me! I would love to have chickens, unfortunately our HOA does not allow that where I live.
Please do some lunch ideas, with summer break coming up, it would be great for kids at home! Love watching your videos! Happy Mother’s Day!
You are such an awesome wife and mother!!!!
My mom made goulash....cheap and easy. Crumble and brown 1lb gr. Beef with 1 finely diced onion. Add i can crushed tomatoes and a couple of cups water. Bring to boil. Salt and pepper to taste. Add 16 oz elbow macaroni. Bring to boil again, stir frequently. When it starts to boil, cover, turn down hheat and simmer, sturring occasionally to prevent sticking until pasta is cooked / water absorbed.
Growing up my parents had around 300 chickens we had a small farm. My mom did all her own baking, eggs in everything lol she even made her own mayonnaise. The excess eggs my papa sold at the local livestock auction.
Brooke you are an amazing girl. Love your videos. I look forward to them. 👍❤
I love this! I've been wanting to do something similar so that we grab a hot, protein packed breakfast instead of something loaded with sugar. Excellent video Brooke!
Yes to the lunch freezer meals ❤
I recently started doing my eggs on the sheet pan like you and I love it.
Wow! Great breakfast idea! Or breakfast or lunch or dinner! Thank you again for the variety of ideas that somehow I can think of!
👍😊❣️ I love how you froze lots of egg sandwiches and burritos for Breakfast, Lunch, or Supper.* Another way to preserve eggs is to scramble up your extra eggs pour them into ice cube trays, raw, (I have special ones from dollar tree for this, or you can put a few in a baggie or container) Freeze them. Take them out of the trays, put them in a zip lock bag, and keep frozen until you need them. Each cube equals 1 medium egg. Thaw in fridge or in a plastic bag submerged in water. Use for baking or frying. Then you have eggs for the times the chickens stop laying. Also works good when there's a good sale on eggs. If your not sure if you will like them this way, just make a few then try cooking them to see how they taste. PS. They need to be scrambled or the yolks broken because freezing can make the yolks tuff.😊
Rider cracks me up. Love his humor. You got some amazing children. But, it’s not a shock, because their Mom is wonderful.
Thank you for showing the freezer wrap technique for the breakfast items.
Yes! to seeing lunch freezer foods! Can’t wait till next Friday!
Yes to freezer lunches please! 3 more days of school and my youngest is out for the summer - that would be so helpful ❤
@Southern Frugal Momma
Yes ma'am, water glass when you can...I did 6 of the 5 gallon buckets last year. My nephew was so happy, he took an entire bucket home. He was 7. LOL When I have extra of the fresh ones, he takes as many as he can home. He calls me the week they are coming, has me leave eggs in the coop, so he can collect them. He also doesn't want me to feed/water any of them before he gets here; for his visits, I have a great farm hand
Oh wow, I just came accross your channel, love that I have so much to learn from you. I started gardening 2 yrs ago, its theropy to me, I need help doing it because of pain but I love seeing life and watch it grow and harvest❤❤
If you still have eggs next Friday you could do some muffins or some individual desserts. French toast freezes well too and speaking of hot pockets you can make them into breakfast versions. Whatever you do, breakfast, lunch or dinner it'll be great. I enjoyed this video a lot and shout out to Kylan for being such a great helper.
Yes, I would love to see your lunch freezer meals!
Brooke we loved to see you and the family doing the garden together! I learned something today about the lumpy soil, thank you! The chickens looked so healthy! Ah, you didn't show how you planted the potatoes. Thanks for sharin'!
Yes to the lunch ideas!!!!🎉🎉 great video so glad it was longer to spend more time with you and your family ❤ another great video!
What l do is make up my French toast mixture. Put my bread in like l do to cook it, but l don't cook it. I put it on a cookie sheet, place in freezer to flash freeze. Then pull out of freezer, using parchment paper square between each slice of raw French toast, then place in ziploc bag. Put back in freezer until ready to use. When ready to use just cook the way you do normally.
That was an awesome video! Great ideas, great use of surplus eggs! Your videos are inspired! Love this channel!
Love this series and will be looking forward to Fridays even more now! As much as I love the make it to payday videos, having a pantry and making your own convenience foods can save a lot of money and hopefully prevent the need for the make it to payday meals. I made biscuits with ingredients I had in my pantry after your BnG video, instead of a packet of mix from the Dollar Tree. I like to keep the packets on hand for camping and quick meals, but making them from scratch when I have time will save money.
Many good ideas. My favorite channel. I can’t believe no one wants the eggs!!!!
Yes, please, more food storage and pantry stogging
I think what I liked best was your five-dollar shelf-stable meals in the baggies
Would you consider doing these types of videos every week for the unforeseeable future? I love these types of videos. Of course, any video you post I love ❤️ 😊
Honey if I was there, I'd help you get rid of them. We use quite a few eggs at our house. People don't seem to take things when they are free. Gotta charge a little something for them. You are really smart on this pantry stuff. Thanks so much for your videos!
Your garden and chicken coop is also part of your pantry. Thank you so much for showing us your garden, and harvesting the dandelions. About your egs: pickled boiled eggs are excelent. Today in California the grocery store wants between $3.50 - $7.00 per dozen. I am so blessed to have friends who have chickens, and an excess of eggs. Please show us the salad you made with the dandelions.
Today I ordered some stacking planters for growing lemon drop melons, pink celery and some golden lemon thyme.
You can freeze your eggs whole in a silicone muffin tin, just crack your egg into the muffin tin freeze on a flat surface in your freezer. Then remove your frozen eggs and place in a Ziploc, when you want to cook them, grab what you need for your recipe place in a bowl in fridge to thaw and cook as desired.
Yes, I have some waterglassed eggs now. I have used them recently, and they had been in water since December. I am grateful for the knowledge of being able to do it.
I'm so sorry none of your neighbors recognized the high quality of that protein and lower cholesterol you were offering! I would have jumped on that like white on rice❣️❣️
Your breakfast meal ideas are good budget meals for any time of the day.Extra bonus is made ahead and ready.
yes! love this series- thank you mama!
Yes yes yes please share your lunch freezer meals! I love all of your videos and you teach me something new I'd never think of on my own every video!❤❤❤❤
So you don’t make a mess trying to get that pan in the oven put the pan on the rack holder rack out pan on the rack then pour the eggs in it and that way you can slowly push it back in there and you don’t spill it all over the floor if you have a long way to go from your counter to your stove
Yes, please !! Lunch freezer ideas !!
I look forward to the day I can have a garden like yours!
Hello Brooke! Love your videos! Have a Happy Mother’s Day!!!🎈🎈
Yes keep the greatness coming👍
Yes, freezer lunch ideas would be great!
Thank you Brooke.for sharing 😊❤
Yes please! Quick Lunch Freezer Meals!!
What a great video bestie! Love this new series and I’m wishing you a wonderful and happy Mothers Day 💐
Awesome video Brooke, thanks
In late 60s at my granny’s house there was a ice cream truck that had soft serve ice cream cones for a dime. When we heard him a block away I run to my granny for a dime 🥰
I was born in England right after WWII ended and my parents had chickens at the bottom of the garden so we were never without fresh eggs (the ration during the war was one fresh egg a week per person, maybe, otherwise it was powdered eggs). I remember having a large bucket under the kitchen sink filled with water glassed eggs. They were used for everything and were fine. The secret is that they must not be washed before going into the water glass mixture as eggs have a protective bloom on the shells. If you wash them the mixture could penetrate the shell and the eggs would be ruined.
If I lived near you, I would be happy to take your eggs and can't believe your neighbors won't take them. I only buy pasture raised eggs and willingly pay $7.99 a dozen for them.
Yes! To the lunch freezer meals! Love your channel and family ❤😊
Great prepping and great advise!😊 I love your channel and your bright personality😊😊
Lovin' all the ideas and shortcuts. Keep them coming. 👍
This is such good advice, love you Brooke and your beautiful family. xx
I love watching your videos!
Great ideas! I love your way of explaining things.
