This one was an experiment. $3 was hard at food city! Lol In the future I’d like to perfect this recipe. Adding maybe a couple chicken legs to water first, to make a broth and shred the meat. More cream of chicken, definitely more spices such as paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and adobo. Potatoes would be a game changer!! So if you make this, I’d suggest to make it your own, and experiment! This is a great base to start with!
Under three dollars AND the veggie police can't complain-that's pretty impressive!!!
Another idea would be to add egg noodles instead of using the pancake mix for a creamy chicken noodle soup! Thanks for the great videos Brooke!❤
I agree
Love that idea❤
That was my thought. Chicken soup!
I'm actually glad you got such a low budget at the not low budget store. You did a phenomenal job. ❤❤❤❤❤
I calculated cream chipped beef on toast at our local expensive
Grocery store, something my
Mom always made before pay day…loaf Italian bread $1.00, cream soup $0.75, Buddig beef $0.85 and a couple carrots for a veggie $0.55 = $3.15….we have bottle deposit here and I can always round up a couple to cover the difference…Happy with Results…this series has been so fun!😊
My Grandma made her dumplings with all purpose flour and water, and they were amazing. (She lived through the Great Depression, that’s probably the reason she made them that way.)
That the way I always made mine. My family always big on dumpling cherish memories of reunions of pots of chicken & dumpling or pork & dumplings.
I was thinking that.
wonder how it would work if you put it in a baking dish and pour the pancake mix over the top and bake?
Bet you it would
It would be more like a pot pie, dumplings might brown a bit, Yummy
Oohh yum
That’s what I was thinking too.
I thought why not pancakes for dinner?
Ingenious! Never would've thought to make dumplings...am 70 and I learn something from you all the time. Thanks for these series. We need them these days.
You never cease to amaze this California girl with your creativity and budget meals!
another idea, take the same budget and use at several stores. Like, see what you can do for $3 at WalMart, Aldi and so on and then compare the meals.
Love this series of videos! You've come up with some creative ideas for each store & budget.
I was worried about that pancake mix. I probably would have gone with rice or noodles instead but I absolutely love that you try to always think outside the box. You're the best and I love this series.
I have a dumpling hack! For these kind of dumplings if you dip your spoon in your boiling broth before scooping into your dumpling mix the dough will slide right off..so no need for the other spoon to scrape them off!
Forgot flour, for a sausage gravy thickener, when camping. Had pancake mix, used that. I've never used flour again it was that good. Great dumpling substitute 👍, I'll have to try it. Thnx for the great video, Brooke ♥️
You can make cookies with pancake mix. Just add butter and an egg and chocolate chips and nuts. Or melted chocolate whatever you like.
Any kind of Box mix be it cake or pancake or cookie or whatever they all have flour and baking soda and salt.... pretty much the same exact thing.
Love your videos Southern frugal mama !!!!
Fantastic! Congratulations!!🙋🙋🐾🐾👍
Brooke, I love you and this series! It has been so fun and it's so great to see you prove you can feed a family of 5 for $3. Have a great Wednesday and be blessed always Southerland Squad! xoxo
My favorite $tree $5 meal is smoked sausage ×2, pepper stir fry blend, and rice. So easy and so yummy.
I was at Wal Mart Neighborhood Market today and all I wanted was a piece of chicken. One piece. They are only sold in family packs and the lowest priced one was still $8. I did not get chicken. This series has been really helpful to me, and I really want to tell you, "Thank You so much"!!! We have been living on a single income and money had been tighter than I've ever had to live on, and when I look at my pantry, I come and see what you've come up with and have been able to feed us on next to nothing, AND it's tasty. Your Appalachian tater soup is one of my favorite go tos now.
Giant Eagle same way now in hot foods. Sometimes you just need one piece:(
I made broccoli chicken and rice soup yesterday. I saved the broccoli water from the broccoli we ate on Tuesday then on Wednesday I cooked rice in the water (1 quart) and I added 1 can of chicken I got at the dollar tree for 1.25 I used ⅔ cup of uncooked rice, about .15 cents and I seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic powder it was good. I served with homemade no knead artisan bread. I cut 2 slices in half (1 middle slice is 4x8 inches). Served 4 big bowls. About $1.50
@@Bellejourney85 that sounds yummy! So much better than eating out
@@julanneolvera6997 I just figured up the cost per serving at under .40 each. No place in the USA can you eat for .40 cents... lol. Except at home.
@@Bellejourney85 you are so right and home is the best place to be! Your soup inspired me yesterday, I was very tired and tempted to order food, then I remembered your soup and decided to make my own, I pulled a bunch of veggies out of the fridge, added some big pasta, and even added some meatballs I had made and put up in the freezer. It turned so good with lots of leftovers for the next couple of days
Excellent job! Another option - crepes with veg and soup mix as a creamed filling 🙂
Waiting on my daughter so thought I’d take ten dollars and shop for a dinner. Decided no rice, beans or potatoes. Gave up after an hour. YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
I am so glad I found this channel.. We are struggling SO BAD as I know so many of us are all around the world... You are such an adorable human being, and I don't live too far from you! (I live in Robbinsville, NC) unfortunately, we have 1 grocery store in this tiny town, and they price gouge SO BAD! ingles!! If I had transportation, I would travel to Walmart, which is 45 minutes away lol.. But I guess it'd be worth it if i could just do a weekly trip! Other than that, there are no more grocery stores near me. I live only 2 miles as a crow flies from the southern border of the Smoky Mtn National Park.. God Bless you and your adorable family, and thank you again for these videos, inspiring me to try and change and save money... The struggle is so real these days!!!!!
Great job on a $3 budget at an expensive grocery store 🎉❤
I'll bet that it would be good with just corn instead of mixed vegetables. Sort of like a corn chowder. Using the pancake mix for dumplings was genius! Great job, Brooke!
Amazing! Thinking outside the box gets satisfied tummies.
I always use bisquick pancake mix for my dumplings. My grandmother and my momma always made them that way! I think it goes further because they expand! And also my dumplings are like biscuits in the middle. They are amazing 😊
The ladies in my family have always used bisquick too!
My family too.
I have used flour and water, and I am the grandma
I can’t stand puffy dumplings. I want them thin and sticky. Of course it all depends on what you prefer or grew up on.
My dumplings from scratch only call for ice water and flour with salt, but I know not everyone keeps flour but if so, that’s super cheap way too with what you showed! Great video again 🎉❤
These are beyond fascinating and so helpful.
Most people would just buy a pack of hot dogs and bread. Great job!!!!
Yuppers you did it again. Great job Brooke!!!
I have binged all of your videos! And I love em!! And your beautiful family! I love how your little boy passes out when he tastes your food!!😂 priceless!
That and his dancing has gotten so old.
Fideo pasta the 44 cents a bag ( 2) tomato sauce small can 1 can corn add taco seasoning.
Brooke I don't comment very often but had to tonight! You are absolutely awesome! May God continue to bless you and your family! ♥ Your creativity, inspiration, positive attitude along with keeping it "real"? Girl, you are exactly what the doctor ordered in this crazy world we are currently in! THANK YOU!! ♥ ♥ ♥
Thanks for great job¡u not afraid to create something new and go with it.❤
I , like you ,your funny at times.I started following your CHANAL for a while.I like how you.Make simple things and turn it into a good meal And I like how you put your kids, first. Fantastic job😊
I come across a cheap dumpling recipe from scratch I know its a little more expensive but they are so good its 2 cups flour 2tbsp butter 1/2 tsp baking powder salt and 1 cup of milk. Mix well I mix the butter with the flour first then add other ingredients then mix up and roll out into strips and cut into square and drop in hot broth. This recipe is so good. Just a tip if anyone wants to try it.
Use self rising flour. Everything is premixed in. Milk and butter cut in.
@@melanieroberts2221 yes you can I just used all purpose I didn't have any self rising just I added the other stuff in
Thanks! I’m going to try this! 😍🥰
We hope you like we sure did enjoy them
Not lying I probably couldn't have done this one at that store, super impressed with this idea.
One other thought (especially if you are not having to feed an entire hungry family): for $3, you can make a decent 'salad supper' with a 99 head of lettuce or cabbage, a 99 cent bottle of your favorite store brand dressing, and a 99 cent can of tuna fish (get in oil and use the oil to help up the salad)...then if you have any seasonings on hand in your pantry, use those (you don't need them, but they can add to it)...you can easily feed three people on this (maybe more if older adults or small kids are involved)(if small kids won't eat it--wrap it in a tortilla--instant burrito)...dts/usa
I don’t know what’s up with all these trolls that feel the need to get on Brooke’s videos and trash talk and only spew negativity and vileness. Just a PSA YOUR COMMENTS WILL BE REMOVED, No ifs, ands or buts and no warnings, so don’t waste your time or more importantly Brooke’s or mine.
I make drop biscuits out of pancake mix all the time. Just thick batter and drop on a baking sheet and bake for about 10-15 minutes at 350° F ... easy peasy.
howdy Brooke., My mother-in-law used to use flour tortillas cut into strips to make dumplings out of.,. And they were so yummy.,.
I thought the first time I ate them,, thatt she actually made the dough 🥰🥰🥰 she was kinda like you very good at cooking and making stuff work...
How about chicken ramen? Two pk noodles maybe 1/2 of one season packet with a cream of chicken soup or two (with water) and a can or two of your veggies.
Love this “series”! Please keep doing it!!
Lol your kids are so sweet they won’t ever say they don’t like your food 💕
I agree, so wondered why the other two were not shown. It would be great if all reactions were shown each video as not all people like the same thing.
Love the smaller budget videos!!!
I absolutely love that you are doing this series. I wanted to let you know something though with these mixes.....if it falls for just one egg you can actually skip it. I am allergic to them and that is what I do. And when it call for milk and I don't have any I just use water.
Great video Brook…it just goes to show you, with some creativity we can make so many meals with just what we have in our arsenal. For very limited money..👍💛
Make your own Bisquick if you have flour and shortening..you can make your own biscuits and many many other things! 😊
Creative, flexible, non judgemental, helpful.. That is what sets your channel apart from others. GOOD JOB ! I would love to see a collaboration between your channel and Good Simple Living. Lori is also a sweet, southern mom and both of you have wonderful ideas on saving money.
At an Independent Grocery store the other day they had on clearance boxes of Mac and cheese still high at well over a $1. I though oh my word ! Several years ago or maybe two years ago an Albertson affiliate had store brand pasta limit 4 boxes $.39 each. I bought my 4. They continued to feature it every few weeks so I bought my 4 ending up with around 12 boxes. Just myself to feed but I also donate. I still have plenty of pasta and cringe at the prices I now see.
My Dad puts soup beans on his pancake...and my parents truly have plenty of money to buy whatever they want to eat...he obviously doesn't put syrup on the pancake. He eats it as if you were eating corn bread.
Thank you for this. You make me smile. Having family issues and needed a small mental break. Thank you for positive fun videos. And great ideas!!!
You were so smart to get pancake mix. I would never have thought to do that!
if you learn anything in life--its never, never, never throw out those free packets that you get along the way (mayo, ketchup, mustard, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, jelly, sugar, salt, pepper--and whatever else appears--chick-fil-a sauce packet, anyone?)--keep all of them in a plastic bag and you can reuse them along the way--they become miracle makers when you have no money!! dts/usa
I was being lazy last week and I didn't want to go to the store I made mine with pancake mix and added a little flour they were amazing I just watched your video 😂 today I knew I wasn't the only one!!
Dollar Tree should be easy after that one. I'm glad it turned out good.
Pork and beans with sliced hotdogs. Yum
I love these cheap meals. We are retired folks and have to stretch things around here.
You are so creative, that was a hard one but you did it. I like the fact you are using different stores and different amounts of budgets. 😊
This one wins on creativity!
You are such a ray of Sunshine
Great job of thinking outside the biscuit, er, box.😊😋😋
❤ Great job Brooke!!
You go girl!!
Love y'all. God bless. ❤
Amazing as always!
Amazing!
I make my chicken and dumplings with bisquick! I like them really big and like biscuits in the middle! My grandma and momma always made them like that when I was grown up.
You should make a I'M IN COLLEGE..... WHAT'S FOR DINNER cookbook 😁. You are genius girl 🎉
As always, so creative
I am so glad I found your channel! How creative. Good food and saving money. My two favorite things.
Great job as always! Thanks for the inspiration!
Brook you are amazing you even get us thinking outside the box
Incredible skills as always! ❤ But can we get a special shout out for the spectacular sprouted onion on the counter in the back?
You are incredibly creative ❣️ I love this series! You always give me such great ideas.
You did great with what you had! Love you and your family!
Rock star status! I was anxiously waiting to see how the pancake mix would work... Looks like it went great! Thanks Brooke for all your ideas and showing people that great meals do not have to break the bank... We are having your cheeseburger melts tonight... Our second time... We love love love them!
We had them on our menu again too-now part of regular meal rotation
@@clsmls2 I didn't think they would have the wow factor but mylanta... They definitely do!
Girl you are amazing!
The mix actually Worked!
That looks good😊 cant wait to see the next video !!
Hats off to you for figuring out that combination!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 poopy! oh lord girl you’re a hoot and a half!
Creative Brook! Good job once again.
Brilliant...Food City is expensive for sure. So is Ingles and Publix...I shopt their specials and bogos..but I buy the bulk of my groceries at Aldi and Walmart.
Good Morning Beautiful Friend!!!! Much love to you and the family!!! Great idea! Thank you for your hard work, keep it up!
Girl you’re a miracle worker. Thank you for sharing and taste testing. Have a great day. God bless.
You are very clever! I would have never thought that pancake mix would make dumplings. Take care.
Hi Brooke , Dusty and boys
So excited to what that can be gotten for 3 bucks . Love how you found a way to pull this meal together I would have never thought of pancake mix I am so excited to try this . Thank you Brooke for your hard work and research putting these videos together keep them coming.
Sending lots of love and prayers for y'all ❤🙏
Food City sounds a lot like Publix. It is a rich people's store lol. I hardly ever shop there
I'm impressed!!
It looked good!
Thank you❤😊
Awesome! 🥳🤩 I was actually holding my breath to see how it would turn out LOL 😆
Looks great
TY 🎉for the very creative way to use pancake mix great way to make things happen!!
Sending love from Ontario 🇨🇦
When I make my dumpling I literally only use Ap flour and water. I roll and cut them out. Its my families favorite. They turn out great with out having to add all the xtra
I would make waffles with only pancake mix and put the sauce over the top. Savory waffles make a good supper or lunch.
Enjoyed. Looked good.
You pulled it off, awesome video, thanks 👍👍👍
Good job!!!!
Love your dragonfly earrings!
My dad will sometimes make small batch dumplings just for him and he uses tortillas as his dumpling. It’s not as thick but it works! Love your ideas always!!
Thank you for brightening my day😁❤️👍
❤You are so creative!🎉
You are absolutely amazing ❤
