I've started to browse Temu.
We need to rebrand leftovers as “already prepped food”! Then it will be more appealing to those who for some reason don’t like leftovers.
We ate many different types of food so we would call it " international night" we put all the leftovers out and everyone just made international plates of food like a buffet.
It's a smorgasbord 😂, just lots of different things 😊 it's from Sweden
@janetbusch6517 That's an awesome idea 💡
convenience food - oh wait, that's already taken. 😁🤣
I have a colleague that says he won't eat "leftovers," yet he's constantly bringing restaurant "doggy bags" for lunch from the night before. The eat out a TON! I asked him once what the difference between "leftovers" and a "doggy bag" is - it turns out neither he nor his wife ever learned to cook, and what wasn't good fresh makes for lousy leftovers.
I got rid of my FB and Instagram…. NOW I live on CZcams- BUT I watch GOOD content like THIS 🥰 to help make my life BETTER 🥰🥰🥰
Agree not on any social media
Good idea!
I been doing this for 6 years now since I got pregnant with my first it's amazing life you really see difference in your own personal self between your family that's still glued to phone! 😂
I agree
Same here xx
I’m 64 and we never had all these snacks that my grandchildren seem to get, home from school can I get a snack, at school, we need a snack, back from after school activities we need a snack ! Absolutely crazy drives me mad.
63 here. I remember our school lunches being a simple sandwich with maybe a 🥕 or an 🍎. That was it. No snacks. After school snack was fruit or a cookie. Was enough, never suffered hunger.
“Stop shopping , and look for friends and sunshine. And remember pack snacks.” Best quote!
On the Shopping, I add another layer of friction, by making a word document with the title of when in the future I plan to purchase the item, then I paste the item below. Later, the list gets compared to the budget which brings up the questions "Do I need this, or do I want it? And do I still want?". If it isn't worth the pause to make the word document, you know that you don't want to pay for that item.
I will be starting Chemo. You, The Wads, The Minimal Mom, and Megan Burch will get me through this!✌🏻Thank you for your quirky sense of humor!
I wish I was into CZcams during my chemo it would have made the time go by much quicker.
Wishing you well. CZcams is great for the distractions. Also, I found journalling positive things that happened to me or I experienced really helpful - not a strict gratitude journal but noting something each day that made me smile, like a funny comment on a CZcams video, something funny or sweet a pet did, cute kid behaviour, warm socks etc.
P.S. I also liked to remind myself of how lucky we are to live now when there's medicine, and the treatment isn't just avoiding the witch down the road and drinking a herbal tea
@sherri5550 wishing you all the best during chemo!
@@amysheffield9583good luck, be strong. U can do it.
❤ wishing you the best 🙏
I pimp frozen pizza with extra onion, tomatoes, bell pepper etc. It elevates it 😋
Challenge -- start making your own with flour tortillas for the crust or making your own crust. 😊
Volunteer! It’s free and the world needs more of them. It checks off half the boxes on the “ways to save list”. You could be so busy volunteering, that you won’t have time for screen time or Amazon shopping. Plus, you can meet new people. Remember to pack snacks and bring a water bottle 😉
Can I tell you how happy I am that you mentioned pets. I always say that if you can't afford to maintain their health, check ups, flee treatments, etc Don't have them. I also say even if you don't worry about that, when they get sick they will cost you money if you treat them. I've known people to have either left animals to suffer because they couldn't afford care, or they didn't have the wear with all to let them go. Either way not fair. Thank you Christine for making people aware of this. Believe it or not I have a line item in my budget for my animals at 4 to $500 a month.
I can’t wait for the group to come out! I’m battling stage 4 cancer so we need all the help we can get to pinch Pennie’s. ❤️
My mother did a once a week fridge clear out. She called it restaurant night (we got to pick our leftovers). We went to restaurants maybe twice a year (in the 90s) so the novelty of picking what we wanted in whatever combination was so much fun. Mom made about 80% of our food from scratch.
Ahhh....the 80s/90s..the once in a blue moon we got fast food or a take out pizza, it was a BIG DEAL.
We have chickens, and they get any leftovers or produce we don’t eat. Zero waste and yummy fresh eggs as a bonus.
I would add #18, IMO a key one: Buy preowned when you can. Cars, clothes, furniture, sports equipment, home decor, kitchen appliances, kitchen ware, etc. SO much $s to be saved there.
You wouldn’t believe how long my “save for later” list is.
I have failed at every no spend challenge that I have tried. . . Until I finally found one that works for me. I now challenge myself to just have ONE more no spend day than I had last month. It has worked for me for the past 3 months. Goal this month is 17 days!
I had to replace shopping with something else, which is such proof that I shopped from boredom. And I had so much unused craft stuff (from previous shopping...) that I made it a goal to work on a craft when I felt the shopping urge. But I've never done a no-spend that included gas and groceries, just no-spend on the discretionary stuff.
I have a lot in my Amazon “save for later”. For my birthday or Christmas my family looks thru my save cart to look for presents for me!
Loved the idea of no spend weekend - my kid gave me major side eye when I said it out loud
Before internet shopping, my mom used to get a TON of catalogs. She would fold the pages and circle the things she wanted. Most times, she never actually purchased any of it. It was the same as leaving things in your cart when online shopping. I do it all the time. I've only purchased a couple of items that I've left in my cart. One is a cardigan that was in my cart for over a month, and the other is an outdoor rug that I had in my cart for a few weeks. I've worn that cardigan to bits, and that rug makes me smile every day!
I used to do that with catalogs, too.
Thanks for reminding me of the show ‘Black List’ we love that show! Time to revisit it.
I’m 64, my lady friends & I get together at someone’s house for salad & fellowship, each person brings one item for the salad & the hostess supplies the lettuce & paper plates, plastic utensils, beverages to drink. We have lady’s that range from 80-60 yo….so much fun a couple times a month. Thanks again!
Got a fish tank at Goodwill, bought gravel filter and food at Walmart. Bought 5 feeder goldfish. Kid was happy and we weren’t broke. Gave away the whole setup later when we ended up with a cat, by then we could afford the cat but were stunned at the cost of vet visits. Found a vet center for broke people 😂
I keep snacks in the glove box of my car. Peanut butter crackers, goldfish, cheezits, nuts... Nobody goes hungry in my car.
Now that is very smart
I used to do that until a mouse founds it’s way into our family car 😢 now I just make sure I have them in my bag
Too hot here to do that
@@tracyt8563 I live in Florida (highs already in the 90s) and have never had a problem. Just don't stash chocolate. I stick to nuts and crackers.
I’ve been going through your recipe videos to help with my grocery shopping! My goal is to get our grocery bill from 600 to 250. We are working our way down, but I just made your meatball subs, spicy noodles, and cheesy potato soup this week! Hubby loved them! Crazy how inexpensive, but delicious they were! Also, nice little summer dish that is affordable: 1 box bow tie pasta, one bottle Italian dressing, 2 cucumbers peeled, one container of cherry/grape tomatoes. Cut up cucumbers and tomatoes and set aside. Cook pasta, drain. Add bottle of Italian dressing and veggies to pasta. Place in fridge until cold. Serve cold! Perfect for hot summer days!
I'm actually still wearing the hiking boats I bought in 1974... yes 50 years ago. I used to hike a bit in my twenties & thirties. They were $30 on sale and were very much a big purchase. They were fancy very pricey Italian boots that were over $100 back then. But I put them on and they fit, and I've never had a single blister from them ever. The last 20 years I wear them when it snows and am happy to have them. I've been more of the cyclist then I hiker so haven't worn them out. So that averages out to 60 cents a year.... ;) !
I am 73 and have had three pairs of shoes and a pair of snow boots for probably 20 years! I was a disabed homeschooling mom and rarely went out. My husband took my sons places they needed to go or for outings for fun. I still go barefoot in the summer, or wear heavy socks or slippers in our cold winters. We don't wear shoes in our house EVER. It's a "thing" in Alaska where we live.
I have a pair of Duck boots and a pair of LL Bean boots that I bought 28 years ago. They are still in great condition and I use them every winter, but they don't get used a lot because I save them for the bitter cold and when I have to actually walk through the snow. I had a LL Bean parka for 28 years too but finally replaced it. Still in great condition and very warm, I wore regularly. I donated it and bought a new one. All 4 of our adult children got LL Bean or Lands' End backpacks for school back in the 90's and still use them!
I live alone and buy Papa Murphy’s pizzas on sale and cut them into fourths and freeze them. I also use the online library for books to read on my iPad; no gas no expense for books.
We are saving money by ordering tap water when we eat out. When we get home, we put the cash we saved in a mug and use it for another dinner out when we have enough . We save about $8 every time we do this.
Great idea. I went to fast food the other day and could NOT believe my large tea was 2.97 after tax!!! 3 bucks for a tea. Yikes. It really opened my eyes. Not again.
Great advice. However, my dogs are my security. No security system will bite an intruder...lol worth every dollar😂
Yes I said goodbye to all social media a while ago! All I have is CZcams and I only use it when I’m alone.
Meal prepping is essentially eating "leftovers." So many awesome meal planning and prepping (Shout out, Jammerill Stewart) where you cook the meal and freeze it to reheat later is the exact same thing. IF you have picky ppl who won't eat leftovers, just put it in one of those meal prep containers in the freezer. It will be eaten eventually.
We love White Collar. We are currently rewatching the series again. It’s Funny, and the good guys always win. We also watch CZcams. Wild Wonderful Off Grid and Cleetus McFarland are completely opposite vibes, but they are a great break from the real world. And your channel, of course. 😂 Social Media is the devil. It will suck you in and hold you hostage for hours.
Everything you described here is how I grew up, and this is how I would like to raise my own family
I loved the tip of a no spend weekend! I have been doing a No spend week for months now. I have broken the habit of boredom shopping. I only spend money on Fridays, and it saves a ton. Also, you're right about putting something in your cart and leaving it there. Love your channel. Thanks for all the hard work ❤
Red is da man of mystery. Love the blacklist
I have an impeller washing machine, and I have not been happy without an agitating washer. I have been looking at washing machine balls to help agitate the wash. I went on Amazon to look at them. I could get 6 for $8 - a small amount - but I decided to dig out my older pets' spikey silicone balls which would do the same thing. The balls were all chewed up, but there were two brand new silicone chewy bones that are a little heavy. I washed them up to use the little one in the smaller loads and the larger one in the medium to heavy loads. Look around the house first and find something that will work in a particular tool's stead. I am getting REALLY cheap! and turning into my grandmothers! 👵👵
I actually have a suggestion for a video. I’m looking for ideas on what to do with friends. Usually all we do is: 1) go for a walk 2) meet somewhere for coffee.
What do people DO these days?
I like to run errands with my close buddy. We will get a cheap meal in the middle of it all.
Play games board or card games
Go to the zoo. If you get a membership it will pay for itself in about 2 visits. Right at opening during spring and fall are the best time to visit.
This is easier when school is in session & playgrounds are less busy, but my SIL & I meet up at a covered pavilion at one of the local playgrounds. We BYOB/snacks & just sit & talk for a couple hours. Last time we did this, it rained for part of the time (a rarity where we live) & it was such a delight to be outdoors & surrounded by rain but not getting wet. We are both indoorsy, so this may be not busy enough for more active people ;-) but it's a perfect option for us! (We are in our 50's & all kids are grown.)
@@debiwillis9045 Phase 10! Best game out there. Nobody will play Monopoly with me. They swear I cheat... but I don't. Does anyone else apply Dave Ramsey rules to Monopoly?
Yes to freezing individual portions of leftovers!! That’s what I do with mine. It saves me from ordering takeout and having it delivered to work! Also, I have chickens, so little food goes to waste in my house😁
I've done a no spend week and 30 day pantry challenge. Made me so proud of myself.
Wednesdays are the only day I go out and do my grocery shopping and errands.
I try hard to do this, but unfortunately our families are having health issues, so I'm running & helping them as needed. Grateful I'm able to help❤
You are a blessing.
Thank God for you!
I like leftovers. My mom could take leftovers and turn them into something totally different. Herb chicken into chicken tacos. Pork chops to BBQ pork sandwiches for example.
Love The Blacklist... We've watched all seasons twice 😂 Raymond is quite the character!
Great tips! Haven’t been on Facebook for 4 years. I kept messenger to keep in contact with relatives and close close friends, but honestly, I do not miss it!
I’ve been doing the month ahead budget for years now and love it. I didn’t know anyone else did it. You’re right, it’s life changing so is being debt free. You can do it
Blacklist was great. We just finished it a couple of weeks ago. Now we're watching Under the Dome. Awesome.
YES to the frozen pizza! It's great and an easy week night meal! My FredMeyer has the fresh take and bakes for $5 every Monday.
Try "Crazy Crust" pizza. It's fun, easy, and delicious. Recipes online.
The Blacklist is awesome and was super sad when the series ended. I could totally re-watch!
I deleted all social media 7 years ago. Best décision ever
I started a social media break a week or two ago and I'm realizing how legitimate of an addiction it can be! I guess I really don't need to know what other people are doing! I also don't need to tell other people what I'm doing! It's so great! I can tell them when I see them in person. I will actually have something to talk about and questions to ask!
Tip for eating leftovers: get some meal prep or deli-style containers and put your leftovers in them in meal-sized portions. It’s easy to grab and go for lunch the next day. I even do this during summer, when I won’t be going to my teaching job. I started doing this years ago and have prevented so much food waste this way. I do also sometimes have planned-overs (like I’ll intentionally grill extra chicken for another meal), and those ingredients go in their own container. When I have a ton of entree leftover that I don’t have plans for, I’ll make a couple of meal-sized containers of it and then freeze the rest flat in a quart-sized Ziplock. I hope this helps someone. It is a system that took me several years to figure out.
I take leftovers and freeze them for later and turn them into something else. That way no one ever knows they're eating leftovers.
Christine, we love the Blacklist!!! We are rewatching it for the third time! ❤
I too deleted my FB and IG and I'm Free!!! This is such great information!! Thank you!!❤
My brother and his family don’t eat leftovers, EVER! It’s mind blowing what they throw away! Even takeout food they just throw away 😢
I don't like them either...but I skip a day and then I'll eat them.😊
THANK YOU FOR THE SHOUT OUT, the love and the encouragement ❤❤❤
Had to play some catch up with real life (why spoilers found on Syd and Macky’s channel 🤓)
Working on getting fresh content to launch soooooon.
❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome! I love your vibe! 😍😍
Gluten free Freschetta never goes on sale BUT 2 meals at $13 total still cheaper than eating out.
I saw you on the national news tonight. I was so excited!
Yes, that was crazy!
Lol.....my husband and I started the blacklist 2 weeks ago. We love it.
Our local animal shelters need foster parents. No out of pocket costs to foster pets. They pay for food, medical care, and necessities
They do not
Yes the Los Angeles City shelters are in need and they cover these costs.
If you want to get a budget friendly pet, get a BUNNY. More specifically a miniature lop eared bunny. They're social like a dog. They're independent like a cat. They can be litter trained similar to a cat. Experienced note: get a grated covering for the litter pan if you're not using a cage with an attached litter pan. They can be harness trained similar to a dog (personality depending). Their toys vary on personal preference. I got teething toys (for humans) for my bunny but he prefers to play with empty soda boxes. They're usually quite healthy and do not require annual vax shots or spay/neuter. So no $$$ vet visits. Their treats can be purchased with your regular groceries like carrots, grapes and bananas. Their regular food and litter shavings can be found at any farm/garden supply store and are quite cheap. Note: specialty pet stores are more expensive.
What???
That sounds so cute! I tried a bunny with my cats but one of the cats tried to kill him right off the bat so he had to go back lol.
@@dianasimplifies yeah. Bunnies are a single pet household kind of pet. I have an exclusively indoor bunny. Growing up, we had exclusively outdoor bunnies and our cats never bothered them.
@@bluedragon1979 I guarantee if I got one he would have an autoimmune disease and cost me $$$$. We have terrible luck!
@@dianasimplifies I know how that is. That's my luck with cats.
Yes! Alot of my friends' posts aren't showing up on my FB anymore? What the heck? And yes. FB is a huge time waster.
My friends and I use FB only for the Messenger function instead of calling or texting.
Typically, when people do a no spend it does not mean don't buy NEEDS - like gas and food. It's for things like not buying shoes. So you didn't fail if that's all you bought. :D
Great info/ideas❤
That book is so thought provoking ❤
I am not a big shopper, either in person or online. For Amazon shopping, I have lists set up to save items I find on Amazon. I usually park them there and go back for them later IF I find I still need them. Sometimes after a few weeks I find I don't really need them after all. I keep a spreadsheet of my pantry, outside freezer and inside freezer and I try to plan meals accordingly. I am disabled so having easy prep ingredients on hand is necessary. I have reduced my grocery shopping to about once per month or so and usually for fresh items (milk, fruit and veggies). I also freeze a lot for fast freezer meals.
I love the Blacklist!!!😊
I have to agree with you on the Digiorno pizza! BUT a while ago, my Kroger had them on overstock clearance for $1.87 each so guess what, we liked Digiorno pizza for that price! LOL
I love how you jumped right in
When I know I'm going to be out a long time the next day, I freeze a bottle of water besides the bottle of water I take 🤗
Stop using plastic water bittles
@debiwillis9045 they are recyclable and when it's really hot, I give them to mail person or people who work outside
@@debiwillis9045 And drink TAP water? 🤢🤢
Blacklist was awesome!!!
Your videos are theeee..Bestttt.i always learn something and you never borning.. oh and by the way I try the weekend no spend it works better when your sick in bed because it hard any other time for me! Also I did the pantry /frige inventory bnb last week took a week off from food shopping. 😅
I love your channel and have picked up so many great tips on saving money. Thanks again if I remember your from Idaho if so I’ll a great state. You rock again thank you and god bless you
I like these ideas. Thanks for the video.
Blacklist is so incredible and smart. Good call.
Walking away from my online cart has saved me SOOOO much lol it truly works
We have stopped using door dash! This is huge for us. We’ve tried from time to time but this time it stuck and it has saved us soooo much money!
The Black List💖ohh yesss
Yes! The Blacklist is very good!
I leave stuff in my cart for that very reason so i can get a coupon 😂
The cackle after “stop shopping” is so relatable 😂
Blacklist is a hidden gem!!!! Great tips . Watching from Winnipeg,Manitoba
Not shopping hungry has saved me so much money! Now, if I get hungry on errand day before groceries, I'll stop for a cheap chicken soft taco and water from Taco Bell (same block) - what I don't spend on groceries more than covers the couple of dollars for the taco. Which just goes to show that I'm really bad about keeping snacks on hand!
I put frozen pizza dough in my freezer for pizza, bread sticks, rolls, pot pies topping.
Love adding stuff to my carts then leaving them for almost a month! 😂🤣 I haven’t been on Facebook for years. I use Ibotta for saving lots of money. It’s like having a spare savings account you can access during emergencies, and no taxes involved in letting the money sit there. Luckily I’ve never been a big clothing shopper. These ideas help, TFS!!
Hahahhha I love Blacklist too!! The end is WILD
I am also a late comer to The Black list. Love it!
love watching what you get up here and i have used your freezer inventory so easy to know what i have and how old it is you make me laugh love ya
LOVE the blacklist ❤
Just saw you on the NBC Nightly News. What a pleasant surprise.
I just saw you on NBC !! Congratulations!
Took your recommendation and read Grateful American. Awesome 👌
❤❤ The Blacklist!!!
Wow... I stopped your video right in the middle talking about inventorying your pantry. You see I was going to go to the store and pick up a can or two a baked beans to add to the little smokies the food bank gave me. And I'm sitting here looking at my pantry at all the different kinds of canned beans waiting for me to use them for something. Duh😮 and not only did I not go by baked beans I didn't have to use the gas to go 15 miles to the store and 15 mi back. That was a win-win! Thank you
That is really far to go to the supermarket 😮. I am very fortunate to live somewhere that has so many different supermarkets within a 5 minute walk of my house. I am not in North America, I'm European and I live in a good size city.
As always, thank you, Christine, for all of your amazing tips!!! And, I LOVE The Blacklist! (Still need to watch the final season, though.) 🙂
Great video
Excellent content
Great video!❤😊
Pineapple, yes!😊
I love leftovers. And we rarely have any that get thrown away. I definitely freeze leftovers from time to time if need be.
Have you ever considered doing a frugal Walmart summer dress and skirt try on haul ?
Tortoises are very budget friendly pets! They only need food 6 months out of the year.
Even not emergency vet.... Just routine dental cleanings! We were quoted $2k-$3k. We got lucky and he needed no extractions and they were able to get in and out quickly which brought the bill down to $1k... But you have to be prepared to pay that higher end quote
I did that years ago. Went on a bus trip with my nieces and nephew to see children's shows. Took snacks and drinks. So they would not want more snacks and drinks at the more expensive ones there.
Only SM I'm using is CZcams. ...and yes, I always pack lunch and sacks
