An scp that captures the spirit of the original 1-2k's. Not that the more recent ones are bad, I just miss the simple ones like these that don't involve world ending horrors. Nice choice!
I like ones that feel like a episode of the original Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock, sorta like this one.
The recent ones are ALL BAD
Modern SCPs generally feel like Marvel movies - you need to have read several other SCPs based on "classic" SCPs to have enough of a knowledge base to kind of understand them without getting bored.
Not a bad thing but it's definitely off putting to new or returning readers.
I like to think that this anomaly is completely non-malicious, that the man in the breakfast nook just wants to convince you to call his hotel a permanent home, and hasn't worked out why fake food, non-euclidean corridors and pools full of angry ghosts with a one-way entrapping surface are all disincentives to long-term residency.
These kinds of articles are my favorite types of SCPs: simple premise, haunting and off-kilter environments, not overly-verbose.
15:28 “Underneath the membrane you may see shapes moving around, but just ignore them.”
But what if I recognize one of them?
You, do not, recognize the bodys inside the water, oh wait ... wrong SCP👀
We've had a great year haven't we? Don't wait for the reunion. I'm sure we'll see each other soon enough. Lots of love. From all your best friends!
I wonder what would happen if you dropped a cannonball on one of ‘em.
So, my new head canon is that this is the hotel that the song “Hotel California” was loosely based on. One of the Eagles’ members must’ve been a Foundation employee, writing the song about a log from a previous SCP employee who didn’t make it out 😂
I enjoy the fact that songs a good ghost story but actually about escaping working in California with multiple subtle details slipped in, like Steely Knives was their agent.
Such a lovely place
I'm glad Aamir got a proper hug. Sounds like he needed it.
Crestfallen dad entity seems like the manager/aspect of the motel genuinely concerned with wanting to make the motel more inviting. Likely a ruse though cos it sounds like answering his questions is not worth it.
Well it's never explicitly said to deny his questions like you do the other ones. Nor do they say what happens if you actually give recommendations on how to improve the place. Perhaps the reason is that noone who has left has gone through the measure; maybe they just got convinced to stay. What im saying is that if the entity truly took a person's recommendations to heart, the motel would improve to a point at which the person no longer wants to leave.
Kind Entity: How can I make it better?
Fountain Agent: I want to leave.....
KE: Please tell me.
FA: I want to leave....
KE: *sad
KE: *never able to understand humanity and make the motel a beautiful and wholesome place because the Foundation refuses to tell it.
There's a lot of "predatory locations" in the SCP universe. This one feels almost somewhat innocent. It seems like an all-powerful being trying its best to put you at ease and make you feel at home. Also the fact that it only affects foundation staff is perculiar. It's almost like it senses that you know more about how things work than most people, and wants to relate to you because of that, but the simple fact of it knowing that you know more than the average joe makes you uneasy to begin with.
Also theres no explicit statement of it doing harm to people. And it's willing to let people go clearly. A strange SCP to be sure. I was thinking it was gonna be a "are we cool yet" SCP. I could imagine artist form "are we cool yet" checking into an obviously anomalous motel and just being completely chill about it.
Is it willing to let people to go? Every motel I've been in just let's me walk out the front door. This one implies that there is a strong compulsion to stay inside and the entity is not willing to take no for an answer without trying to guilt trip you about it first. Furthermore the extremely specific ritual-like steps needed kinda imply to me that the consequences of not following are bad, otherwise why not just only ask to leave and skip the other steps? Maybe it's not as outright violent as many other SCPs, but just it not killing you imo isn't proof that it isn't malicious. Perhaps it is not capable of violence if need be so it only wants those who lack the mental fortitude to say they want to leave? The fact that it is intelligent and knows of the foundation specifically also suggests to me that it'd know more about human culture than is required to see how hostile the place is.
no mention of harm? sure. but its implied by the things like the elevator creep. in fact for most things, what happens if you dont do something is left unsaid but the disclaimer before the addendum does sound like you're in mortal danger
Yeah. Seems to me that it’s terribly lonely more than anything.
My headcanon is that it’s some kind of empathetic shapeshifter that fell to this planet/dimension and “ate” an abandoned motel complete with “psychic imprints” of everyone who ever stayed there or worked there, and tries to recreate a smeared generalization of every motel the guests remembered.
But it isn’t the same kind of social critter we are, and has different ideas about what social interactions should be, hence the weird humanoid manifestations. For that matter, it may be a small group of strongly linked individuals filling different roles they believe to be essential components of “motel” including the generic creep, the gaslighting victim, the ragged generous empath, and the “please come again” guy.
Why does it only manifest for Foundation employees? A look through the psych screens used to select employees should explain that. There’s something common to the psych profiles of all employees which isn’t found in most civilians that makes them trigger the anomaly. Maybe it’s acceptance of the anomalous as not necessarily being dangerous or evil.
On the other hand, that quality may be more common, and there may be many civilians who have stayed and escaped, and who haven’t escaped…
the pool drowns people
When you mean predatory locations? Could you name a few
This feels like an AI building a motel from memories and scenes from TV/films.
I swear you and Volgun are always step in step I love it hearing you’re different takes on the same source
I was just about to say the same thing but NOT to do the same.
I love both creators, they have been a constant for me over the years.
But its kinda pointless when it's word for word.
*your
Could've sworn I heard this one before xD
I both the Volgun and TES are top tier SCP content
This cognitohazard is colloquially called Deja Vulgan
--Level 4 Access Required--
This SCP article is a better Backrooms Wiki article than any other article in the actual backrooms wiki.
@@joshwalton25wdym let the community run with the concept he didn't invent it
@@waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa my mistake, I thought he was also the one who created the initial creepypasta post.
I still think Kane's story is loads better than 90% of the wiki content. There's some gems throughout, but imo things devolved into everyone trying to one up each other pretty quickly.
@@Arguswastakenit’s because of the liminal space horror element
@@joshwalton25 yeah, everyone has to have a scarier or worse thing, instead of making it interesting, turned it into a pissing contest
Likely because most of the writers are younger, vs SCP articles coming from everywhere, and about everything, not just horror
And it’s a lot more regulated, not just anything can be a 001 proposal for example
Thx for spoiling it....MFer.
this style of scp is kinda nostalgivlc for me. i remember having a phase of reading/listening to "ruleset horror" stories. compared to what i remember, at least this one has somewhat of an explanation as to why any of the weird stuff is happening
Agreed. I loved the rules creepy pasta/horror Reddit tts haha. This I would love to hear how someone survives as a “new hire” etc
Manng really hit us with the “we live in a society”
Yes, I always jump over the lobby desk and bang on the door for my room key, politely of course.
I was looking for this comment
hotel california
I think it's an anomaly that used to affects all sorts of people, but the Foundation has found a way to contain it with these rules. My theory is that the hotel used to be pretty appealing, but their method of containing it tricks it into thinking that hotels are actually like that making it so that no sane person would actually want to stay there.
I like this idea
if they are already containing it whats the point of tricking it?
@@fatchicken6978 they contain it by tricking it. I just phrased it poorly
A quote of the article from one of the test researchers, Taya Andrews, elaborates this feeling further from the article read in Dr. Miller's lecture elaborates this feeling further:
"My parents and I used to take a lot of road trips when I was a kid, so we stayed in a lot of motels. You know the kind: shitty roadside lodging where the rooms are cramped and the prices are dirt-cheap. Years-old carpet, unfashionable furniture from the 70s, sinks that stick out into the room and hard mattresses. Not a resort, just a place to lay your head down for the night. Transitory spaces, where you're meant to come and go; not to stick around.
Motels are not home, obviously. They try their best to feel like they’re home. But not particularly well, which is why they have such a unique vibe of their own. A corporate-designed space calculated to put you at ease. They’re spaces for humans to inhabit, but there’s nothing really human about them. 7819 embodies that pretty well."
Gaming hypothesis
Just a AI motel generator, scouring the Foundation employees to improve it's self.
love to imagine there's a veteran at this and speed runs it every time
When in doubt, trial and error. Definitely what the Foundation would do to know how to survive this SCP
Hahaha right. I was thinking all those poor D-classes
SCP Error
This should probably be easy for timeloopers.
How is your comment 18hr old on a 2hr old video? Anomalous poster? Sn checks out if so
There's a major flaw in the idea that it's trial and error, being that there's no way to gain information from the failures as the people can't report their findings back to the foundation, so the only way anyone returns those rules is pure luck of getting everything right first time.
From the start of the video, I suspected it was effecting more than just Foundation emps, just that only the Foundation emps ever make it out alive, because of the document. Glad to see you came up with the same idea.
You know when Explorer and Volgun run out the same SCP it must be a good one ☺️
There really needs to be an SCP tv show, where this episode can just be trial and error of going through this motel and finding the best way to get out of it
My theory is that the people in the elevator were those who decided to stay volintarily for one reason or another. I feel so bad for the teen because you can absolutely imagine why he'd want to stay. now he lives a life of giving out hugs and trinkets. I hope hes happy. He deserves to be.
The article explicitly states SCP foundation thinks they are not people. Perhaps all of them are some sort of ghost of previous customers. Or maybe echos of fist three guests to stay.
Too many things aren't rules. Like "Who are you? Where are you from? Why are you targeting _us_ , specifically? While I really appreciate your attempt at hospitality, I certainly don't feel guilty for turning down the muddy soup and rotten food. And while I never wanted to be in this place to begin with, I had to memorize a list of rules in order to navigate this minefield of a 'paradise' you have set up, oddly enough, just for us. And while it's the thought that counts, I suppose, I really _must_ be leaving...Soo, checkout at 1130 ?"
Definitely looking to see that log 😁
💣
Sounds like a combination of Liminal Spaces, SCP, and the Holders Series.
I think it is cleverly done, if a bit hamfisted from time to time.
Your reading of it, and further clarification was, of course, flawless.
Man when you mentioned the holders series it tickled a wrinkle deep in my brain and long story short you reintroduced me to one of my first forays into internet horror and horror in general. I remember reading those stories on the creepypasta wiki ~10 years ago
Mine was Russian Sleep Experiment then right to Holders... has it been 10 years already?
In any city, in any country, go to any mental institution or halfway house in you can get yourself to
I like that the scary part is how they tell you ways to survive but not what exactly, very interesting.
I mean you absolutely need the guide to even get your key right not like its normal to hop over the counter and listen to a door for a room key
Basically a Hotel California with the opportunity to possibly leave. 😂
P O S S I B L Y
"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place, (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year, (any time of year)
You can find it here"
Good tune
As someone who travels a lot this one was fun to listen to, even with the horror elements
Its sound like walkthrough to one of Sierra quests. Where one mistake (or if you eat Delicious, mouthwatering custard pie) can lead to your doom later down the line.
Always a wonderful 3am surprise to see a TES video on one of my articles. Thanks for the excellent narration, and I hope everyone enjoyed this little thing for Halloween!
Love your canon, especially the 001 articles
So. Does this place keat you/harm you etc, if you don't follow the rules?
It's like the hotel California I think. You can have as much continental breakfast as you want... but you can never leave... Yeah and exploratory log with someone that screws up has something crazy happened would have been cool. @johnfrancis3203
This is such a cool SCP bro. Good work!
This was such a fun, spooky article! very quick question - was the 'wall-street-anglerfish' a reference to the magnus archives?
This reads so much like an article of the Holder Series. Hits a nostalgia I didn't know I had
Damn this was a good one, just wanted to fall asleep to some scp but I've just listened to the whole thing it was soo interesting.
🎵You can check out any time you like… but you can Never Leave🎶
I’m glad I watched this today and not yesterday when I was checking into my hotel
Perfect understated integration of liminal (or in this case, transitory spaces) into an SCP. You're kept wondering, even after the end of reading, about the how, what, who, where, when, and why's. As stated, not clear answer about anything, but just enough to keep the reader hooked. The mystery, the intrigue is what makes, for example, the "liminal" phenomenon intriguing. Vague connections, memories, and feelings. Once you over-define something, it loses its intrigue, and goes from interesting to tawdry.
Thanks for making my 3:00 ams better
Hell yeah another SCP video!
*Also did the volgun and TES just post the same Scp within 10 days of each other?
*Also congrats on your 300th SCP video TES
Out of any SCP video of yours I’ve seen, this one got me the most for some reason I can’t quite explain. The way the article says exact instructions without detailing too many reasons why and so many entirely unnatural things said in such a calm/calming voice really freaked me out.
For instance, “if it’s a clean shaven man in the elevator, don’t get in” got me just from how ominous it was. And “barricade the door to the joined room” without exposing specifically why.
SAAAAME
An anomaly like this really should be somewhat replicated for an Alan Wake/Control universe game installment.
I wonder, what happens if it's a timelooper making a visitation to this place?
And in the meantime, how many of these anomalous denizens are actually mind-broken, body-modified prisoners/pawns for whatever's masterminding this mumbo-jumbo?
Addendum: So, is there a TES video on SCP-6819?
I mean the closest thing to this is the Oceanview motel in Control
This is hilarious. Just taking the feeling of staying at a terrible Hotel/Motel exaggerated to an absurd degree
This feels very much like a motel from Night Vale loved it
Ah snap, not even an hour old. This is the earliest I've ever watched a video. Friggen sweet
Edit: this reminds me of the Holder series
I really enjoy this kind of scps. They are not world ending scenarios, or alternate timelines mumbo jumbo. They are just curious self contained stories
Damn all im thinking is how many D-classes you had to go through to figure out how to leave...
17:23 that so she put her hand part made me wake up jarringly for no reason, i was trying to sleep
This is weirdly one of my new favorite SCPS
This creeps me out beyond every other SCP. I don’t know why but this one particular scares the shit out of me
Damm, first a literal retelling by Volgun and now a narrated version by you? We are blessed
>monster out of a nightmare
Fight or flee.
>beautiful succubus
BEGONE THOT !
>mindbending 4th dimentional insanity
Joke's on you, i'm too dumb to get it.
>sad dad that just want a little bit of your time
Yep, i'm dead.
There's so much room for experiments even without risking employees. Are d class affected? Can non-target preceive the inn? What if you do bring your gun? Can non-targets enter the inn? What if another car or helicopter tails you to the anomaly? What if the hotel is destroyed before the target completes the ritual? So many questions
Awesome article, awesome narration as always.
The ppl in the door behind the front desk having the time of their lives
This is exactly the kind of SCP article I like to listen to.
I missed simple SCPs such as this! Please more
Love your videos! Especially love this SCP too - always enjoyed SCPs with convoluted rules
I loved this. I maybe in the minority but im not a fan of the more grandiose "SCP cinematic universe" type stories that span multiple episodes with main characters and such. This had the right music and the right weird and whacky setting that sparks curiosity and subtle alarm. Was there something under the bed???
I very much enjoyed ASMRMatt's reading of the article, very excited to see your interpretation
Ah, we eat well today ya'll! Many thanks TES!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I heard that name and dropped my ice cream scoop and immediately commented I’ve seen this somewhere else and I can’t put it to memory and I dead paused at 1:34. Man that’s trippy
I love this kind of scp. It feels familiar which is scary! X
You have to imagine that this SCP file and several others are part of the standard orientation package for all new employees!
Damn. This one must be popular. Volgan and now The Exploring series covered this one.
this would make an amazing horror game
Oooh rounderhouse is always good
This would be really cool as a roleplaying game setting of sorts
I fully intend to use it in a future game session :3
I LOVE this SCP, it actually gave me chills and still does sometimes. It's so unsettling but intriguing, no doubt I wouldn't last long cause I'd forget the steps and rules and I think that's why it scares me 😂
Lovely, was cleaning files and needed something to listen too
Love Rounderhouse so much
Loved this one!
This reminds me of "The Holders" series. A bunch of detailed instructions into benign places holding some eldritch relic for the taking of those mad enough to try.
One of my favorite of the new SCPs, I love travel themed ones. Reminds me of Alice isn’t dead
even though i just saw this one on Volgun, i really enjoyed yours as well. especially your take on it at the end
Love your content!
I know this is a longshot but SCP-783 is amazing for your style of videoand a personal favorite. Amazing horror story.
Love these morning uploads, uts the perfect way to start the day. 👌🤠🍻
Meow
*OH BOY! IT’S 3AM!!*
This is a great one.
A source for new exploring videos could be from some podcasts that have the same feel of weird fiction like SCP and 40K. “The Magnus Archives” lore, exploring the entities of fear. “Welcome to Nightvale Lore” episodes.
I adore your episodes. Your voice and style are amazing.
I've said before that your videos help me sleep and have done so for years but what's more profound is that as we get older and time goes on.
These moments slow down time to a point where you can experience right now. As in the ride stops and for a brief moment you can contemplate everything that has lead up till now and what lies ahead. It's like pausing a game. It's reality without time moving in a direction. I'm in love with this nowness
SCPs have definitely gotten a 1000x better then they used to be...
Scp employee that just got out of work: "Goddammit not this again"
i love you the exploring series
My idea is that there’s no need to go the pool and the foundation just wants to help people get their stuff back
I love this channel
Your voice helps a sad man sleep better. That man is me.
this probably isn't an original observation, but this reminds me a lot of myhouse.wad. the esoteric means of traversing the various altered versions of a familiar place, the odd interactions with people that seem to have specific histories the traveler isn't privy to. Both stories have unmistakable horror, as well as bittersweet chunks. idk man.
This SCP is a nice reference to the Holder Series, top notch
Literally watched the volgun version of this last week lol
A NEW SCP VIDEOOOO IM SO HAPPY!
best scp video ever
This feels like an expansion on "Hotel california" by the eagles
There's wierd notes like the backpacker appreciates you lying (tes abridged that out) and "we don't blame you for staying" at the end.
Great scp to cover!
This one was the main reason i trashed my first SCP "SCP Hotel and SCP Fit". Down by my house is a hotel literally called The SCP Hotel and it has a sign that says "Soul. Community. Planet. SCP Hotel" then underneath a second sign that says "SCP FIT". I came up with some crazy stuff like a 682 maitre d and the Builder SCP floating around in a shirt as a handyman, the daughter of darkness as the aerobics instructor in SCP Fit, all kinds of wackiness. But i felt this did unsettling horror better and didn't wanna be labeled a copy cat so i scraped it. Had real pictures of the place and everything. There's one with an almost eerie floating logo in front of the Hotel. It's like the visuals, the sign, it's like it was made for an SCP project. Oh and incase anyone is wondering SCP in this case stems from the South Circle Plaza, the Hotels location. But the Soul. Community. Planet. Just provides to much lore fodder to toss! I think I'm gonna havta revive this idea.
This makes it feel like more of like those ritual creepypastas that takes place in the SCP universe, kinda like SCP-5322 or the Midnight Game creepypasta
Feels like Dale or Major Briggs navigating a Lodge.
Oh boy it's 3am!
I liked this one. It's like a walkthrough of some insane person's video game. I am really curious about what happens if the rules aren't followed, but enjoy leaving it up to the reader's or listener's imagination.
I wish I'd seen this here first. Still gonna watch it though. Mangg is my #1 SCP / Warhammer / miscellaneous lore guy.
if you didn't know he's got real world lore on all kinds of stuff like the Zodiac killer for instance.
Lately, watching him play Pathfinder has helped me understand the mechanics and get back into it as well. ( that would be his let's play channel though, usually Linked In the description) definitely more casual, for when I'm in the mood.
this slaps
