      I don't think a split jerk should be allowed in strongman as it is more about athleticism and technique and less about static strength. Same with fingertip straps deadlifts. At least they removed suits which is a step in the right direction.
      Hooper would have won regardless of the split jerk or not, but in general I don't think it belongs in strongman. It would be like allowing a chest bounce on the bench press in powerlifting.

    The event was promoted as a repetition event mocking old athletes where such weight was considered a max. Yet few athletes could do more than one, so clearly, the weight is too much. I hate when an event has too many ties with no lift or one lift which distorts the overall score. The axle bar circumference is wide and cannot be rotated, leading many to grip it the same way as the deadlift. Using their stomach (not healthy) and severely bending back (will cause back injury) and putting too much weight on the wrist since the bar cannot rest on the shoulder (wrist injuries). I wish if they got rid of this apparatus. There is no reason to injure the athletes when many safer alternatives are available: bar lift (Olympic style), behind the neck bar lift, log lift, tire press...etc. I understand the axle tests more than the press, it tests the grip and various other things, but it too dangerous. Like we have alternatives in the press, the grip can also be tested safer like the farmer walk, hanging timeout..etc. I say get rid of this event.

    Bad reffing on this event. The ref gives a windup on his down signals like an MLB pitcher. Takes him 5 seconds to go through the animation of a down signal. Thor got 2 down signals but later they reversed a call, thats the ref's fault not Thor's.
    1) Thor dropped the bar as soon as the ref started his down signal (which takes him 5 minutes to complete the down signal)
    2) If the ref wouldn't have given a down signal maybe Thor could have continued to press it out
    3) If Thor didn' get the 2nd rep maybe he'd have tried harder on his last attempt. Maybe he only dropped the bar on his last attempt because he was satisfied with 2 reps.
    Basically the ref's bad call cost Thor 3rd place.

    • @theweekendmasterswarrior990
      @theweekendmasterswarrior990 Před 2 měsíci

      No. Bermagnis wasn't even close to Lasha's size and strength and he still managed 3rd in 2002 wsm. The only remotely comparable weightlifter turned strongman was Mikhail Koklyaev, who got 3rd in 2010 wsm and also 3rd in a few Arnolds. However, neither qualified for the Olympics or world champs, let alone competed in them. Lasha is a 2 time Oly champ, 7 time world champ, world record holder, and is a massive 6-6, 400+lbs. I am not saying that he can win wsm, but the Apollo wheel would be light weight for him and he could have easily won it at Arnold's, without any special training other than getting a feel for the implement. The Apollo wheel has thicker bar but is much higher off the ground, easier for Lasha to clean, and the jerk would be a joke for him. Hooper is nowhere near Lasha's strength in the jerk and look at what he did.
