Mid competition, Hooper took it upon himself to stop competing and turn his attention to Brian. That's a class act, I see it almost like handing off the torch. Brian has been such an influential figure in the strongman space, Hooper knew he owed him those last 30 seconds. What a career for Brian, never gets old watching him compete.

What an incredible moment. It's one that I will never forget! I am SO GRATEFUL to have had the privileged of being in attendance. I wish I could have been there to watch everything and take in all the sights and sounds, but I was recovering from a TBI and this was the first live event I had been to since the accident and it got super overwhelming for me at times. But when the opportunity came along to attend the event, to go with one of my best friends from College that I hadn't seen in a long time, and the fact that it was Brian Shaw's last competition I had to try and I had to do whatever I could to be able to watch as much as I could.
Brian is 100% what got me to become a fan of strongman. I had seen clips online here and there, but it wasn't until 2013-2014 that I really started following the sport. I'm from Colorado and don't live to far from the area Brian lives. When I saw a clip of Brian for the first time and saw he was from Brighton Colorado it grabbed my attention. It was in the middle of his dominance and he pulled me in.
I think under different circumstances I could have done well in strongman. I was around 6' 200+lbs by 13-14 and I was naturally very strong. I come from a line of blue collar workers who were known for their strength. My grandpa was still doing 1 arm pullups and pushups at 75 and my Great-grandfather I'm told was a monster of a man in his day (early to mid 1900s). He was 6'6 285-290 and very lean. He worked on the railroads, and it's was reported by a number of his coworkers that he was able to picking up a railcar axle and turning it around on the track. From the looking I've done online it is not possible that's what he did. He would have had to have been the strongest man in history if he could actually have done that. I don't know what he was actually lifting, but the point is he was known for his strength by all his Coworkers.
My parents could see my natural strength from a very young age and as I got into my teenage years they fostered that nature ability. They got me a weight set, and my Dad, who is very strong in his own right, helped show me how to do things safely. Around those same years I started having severe health issues and I was in and out of the hospital a lot and was physically unable to do much for long stretches at a time. Throughout the last 20 years I have gone through periods of very poor health where the only training I could do would be getting out of bed and walking to the other side of the room and back. At other times I was able to go to the gym and make huge strides. It is easy to lose focus and get upset because of the ups and downs, but at the end of the day, if I can honestly look back and say I have done everything I could do, I think I have accomplished Brian's challenge to "Go Out And Be Great".

I had No idea Evan Singleton was a WWE Wrestler until yesterday when I watched his podcast with Brian Shaw. I now can't unseen it! He absolutely KNOWS how to work a crowd, but another aspect where I can see it is the way he works with the other competitors during the events, but also back stage. He, probably more than most wrestlers, knows how important cooperation and teamwork are.
If people don't know, (like I didn't) during one of his early matches in WWE his opponent didn't do a move correctly and it almost killed Evan and ended his dream of becoming big in the WWE. It's crazy that he is even able to do Strongman at all, let alone at the level he has gotten to!
After that Episode I have a new appreciation for him and I've become a huge fan. I wasn't sure who was going to become my favorite active strongman after Brian retired, but I think I've found him!
