    Imagine hearing stories about a god from another realm. The Ghost Of Sparta, A God of War. His rage and strength so fierce he single-handedly ripped apart all the fellow gods and fought his way to the King of Gods Zeus, who was also his father, then proceeded to punch the King Of Gods face in with brute rage and strength, killing him. The whole realm ripped itself apart due to The Ghost Of Sparta's rage. He's now in your realm, and your brother who is *invincible* and feels no pain, felt pain and also *died* due to picking a fight with him. He's a God Eater. That is a much more frightening reputation than Thor. Thor is a fool for looking for this fight.

    • @OneTwoMark
      @OneTwoMark Před 6 lety +1203

      Josh R Baldr was formidable foe, crazy strong. Yet against Kratos he’s down 2-0. Even when he had infinite health and stamina he still lost. Imagine Freda put that curse on Kratos.

    • @aristosachaion_
      @aristosachaion_ Před 6 lety +627

      He lost because his curse was lifted. That's it. The first time they fought, Kratos very nearly had his ass handed to him. What makes you think that Thor, most powerful god in all the nine realms (not just Midgard where the Greek gods were) with a weapon that rivals Zeus' thunderbolt in power, won't make short work of old man Kratos? Keep in mind that Kratos himself was a god in the first trilogy, and he lost some of that power by the end of the third game.
      Personally, as much as I love how his character is now, I hope he dies; 1) so that the story can actually go further and not be a fucking repeat of the last trilogy, and 2) so that Kratos doesn't become a damn Mary Sue character, because then that's just bad writing. When the devs said that he'll still be in the next two games, they never implied he'd still be alive.
      My own theory for this is that after Thor kills him, he goes to Valhalla (because that's where the honourable dead go) and turns Odin's Einherjar against him to have the Æsir fight a war on two fronts; Atreus leads the way with the giants and lets his children loose, while Kratos' soul leads the converted Einherjar to one last battle.
      How that would be implemented as a game is beyond me, though.

    The end scene with Thor showing up at their house is probably one of the best cliffhangers a video game has ever done.
    After a fairly long full campaign and plenty of side quests you see a being that's been spoken of throughout the entire game show up at their own door ready to fight. We all know what's coming, but the anticipation is off the charts at that point.
    I really hope we can get the full 6 games that the devs want to make to complete the God of War series.

    I don't mind really how much this game portrays the Aesir gods as cruel jerks. I love Norse mythology simply because of how many human characteristics and traits the Gods had themselves, and how much they seemed to respect and care for mankind. Especially Thor, who seemed to have a certain soft spot for mortals. We've only learned however that the Giants were bad and the Gods were good through the narrative perspective the mythology tells us. But there are always two sides of every story ever told. God of War takes that other side of the Nordic stories, and gives us an alternate take on mythology, as told through the perspective of the Jotun. Where the giants are portrayed as the shunned victims of the Aesir. It's pretty intriguing, to say the least. And while the personalities of the Gods seems to be generally negative in this version, we have to remember that this is still told in a narrative in which the Jotun are the victims. To them a cunning and wise Odin would mean treachery, deceit and cruelty. A brave and strong Thor would mean bloodlust and rage. Not to mention that we have to have some established reason as to why Kratos would seek to bring down the Nordic pantheon if they were all goody two-shoes, with little to no bad qualities.

    • @thatsicklypup
      @thatsicklypup Před 6 lety +52

      Would very much like a source on those other mythology experts. Calling Gaiman and Barlog mythology experts, is a bit of stretch, in my opinion. From what I've read in my studies on the subject there really isn't anything specifying that Thor would be a "bad" guy from an outsiders viewpoint (unless you are a Jotun, of course, due to his unexplained hatred against all of giant-kind). The only real flaw in his personality is that he at times doesn't appear to be quite as intelligent as the other gods, simply because his short temper, that makes him quick to act, but with no time to reflect upon what meaning or repercussions his actions can/will have. And as such appears to be a dullard and/or a brute. But in the end his intentions are solemnly in the interest of protecting Asgard or mankind (or just his own lust for battle and adventure, which true enough would make him an egoist, but then again who doesn't think about themselves every now and then?).

    • @falseprophet1415
      @falseprophet1415 Před 6 lety +65

      Perhaps the portrayal of the Norse Gods as equally cruel or vain being similar to the Olympians is just touching on a possible universal truth: Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Despite the Olympians and Aesir being tougher, stronger, more intelligent and possessing super-natural abilities, they're still beings of intelligence and ego, thus spawns the sense of entitlement and complete lack of empathy when they see themselves so far removed from the existence of the average human, cruelty is common form of upbringing, and might makes right as far as they're concerned.
