    Just noticed the Steam store page for this one says "an action JRPG with real-time battle and vehicle combat elements" which is misleading at best. Still, I do want to give this series another shot so I might take a look at one of the older ones at some point.

      It's an odd hybrid system when you see a monster you hit triangle and the menu pops up and you pick to fight thenyou then aim and shoot. This gives you a first shot and will sometime kill the monster . If it doesn't you go into a turn based fight. Its odd but I find it fun.

    It's a shame about the change to the battle system from the original game which was turn-based and very fast. The game has been simplified in other respects, cutting out most of the story and character interactions and the boring on-foot dungeons. I liked MM Xeno, and I'm playing and enjoying this one despite the battle system. Riding around the wasteland in tanks with a shiba perched on top of your tank is always fun.

    For anyone who is checking this video for Metal Max Xeno Reborn, there are more issues than in the video.
    For example the engine exploit. Not the game engine, the engine for the vehicles ingame. Buy cheap engine, make the both upgrades, sell it for profit, repeat. It can be used for any engine except the Sliphead for whatever reason. And it can go straight from the moment you can enter Iron base, giving you the unlimited money exploit straight at the start of the game. And you need money for EVERYTHING, which is very weird if you think about the setting.
    Another issue are the dungeons! The first dungeon gives you a general taste of how badly designed they are. Usually the first dungeon should be easy, nope, not in this game. This dungeon is loooong and boring and surprisely difficult to deal with, especially if you meet golden ants who heal from beam damage, over to debris that need certain attack power to even be damaged, which you usually find on the vehicles. It gets weirder if that debris takes less damage from everything except lightning damage, only for the enemies behind to have a ice weakness while getting healed from fire damage, which the design of said enemy doesn't reflect it at all.
    It got more problems than it needs to have, someone must have slept while the game was made.

    I'm having a great time with the game. I love how you can just hit a button and attack nearby enemies. I realy like the setting and the story even if it is bit light. The characters look good and the gameplay loop is good but not the best. They really could have fleshed it out a bit more. I'm not trying to defend it though, it is what it is supposed to be a enjoyable JRPG with many flaws. I've played worse "AAA GAMES: in my time. I would give the game a 7-10 score. That's just my opinion and everyone has their own. Have a good day.

  • @riptors9777

    You cant beat the bosses without a full team in vehicles. The game doesnt tell you this, but as a solo tank even with the dog at your side.. you will not win against a single boss.
    Its weird how the titles from the DS are more fun to play, and have a better story then this game. Heck.. metal SAGA for the ps2 had a more engaging open world then this one. They claim Xeno is an open world but that couldnt be farther from the truth, the entire gameworld is basically one long tunnel from start to finish that only ever goes in ONE direction to progress.
    Atleast its not as edgy as the old Metal max xeno where you could have cut glass with the protagonists angst... on the other hand alot of dialogue and backstory and character interactions was taken out.
    Oh and the game was censored, artwork and character interactions. But "atleast" you get access to the original art... if you finish the game...

    • @JoshuaPAMployee
      @JoshuaPAMployee Před 2 lety

      You actually can. You just need to think about skills, items, and gear. The dog is the party tank and with minimal thinking can basically easy mode the game.

    • @riptors9777
      @riptors9777 Před 2 lety

      @@JoshuaPAMployee There is no skill or piece of equipment that will stop you from getting one or two shotted out of your tank from a boss when you encounter them initially. Tanks do not profit from on character equipment to begin with. They are their own entities. And even with maxed out defense your initial tank stands no chance against the bosses in the first area. The stat limits on that tank are simply to low.
      You would need to grossly outlevel and outgear these bosses to be able to solo them with only your main char and your dog, im talking 20+ levels and gear above any given boss. (except those you encounter in dungeons, those are pushovers)
      Futhermore while its true that the dog eventually gains massive amounts of HP (around lvl 30ish he has 4k+ HP) You have no direct control over your dog and most often he will simply sit around, dig up random items or groom himselfe, and if he decides to attack he will cause like 400 damage to a level apropiate boss. And the way his skill tree works you have to buy EVERY skill on a given tier atleast once before the next tier unlocks, meaning your dog will be quite bad stat wise for a good portion of the game till you unlock his actual stat boosting skills. Meanwhile his range of active combat abilities will grow and with that the chance of him doing something that you dont want him to do during combat!
      Oh and theres no taunt ability either on your dog. So if a boss decides he doesnt like your main characters face for 2 to 3 turns youre toast.
      And Finaly, simply outgrinding boss enemies isnt exactly a new or innovative way of playing JRPGs. Not that it is particularly easy in this game to begin with, what with normal enemies giving barely anything in terms of monetary reward. The initial mobs will gain you 2 to 22G and the best dog armor initially available will cost you around 56k, the best tank engine 200kish... so yeah.. good luck with that one.

    @darkninja0200 Před měsícem

    Honestly, when I got it, $40 was too much, and I really wanted to like it. The original game that this was SUPPOSED to be a remake of is way better. More story to follow and more akin to that traditional RPG feel.

  • @MalditoSeasEstadoDelsrael

    what were they thinking with the combat system? You can control the tank in real time with direct inputs to steer, advance and move in reverse, but if you were to attack you need to enter one menu, another submenu and then confirm? why!? Also, every menu has a sliding animation thats not skippable in any way, so theres like 5 seconds between you choosing to attack something and being able to aim a shot.

    • @riptors9777
      @riptors9777 Před 2 lety

      Also with a full team the real time control of your tank might not even exist, you will be switching from tank to tank so fast that driving around to get into better positions or prevent AOE attacks during boss fights (cause everything else usually dies in the first salvo) becomes allmost impossible.
      This is ESPECIALLY frustrating when you are on foot. In one of the dungeons I remember encountering walking gas cans that explode when killed.. so the game told me "use ranged attacks"... good idea in theory.. only one problem though:
      Everyone not under my direct control charges straight into melee combat, and there is absolutely nothing i can do to prevent that...
      The moment im being prompted to select an action for one of my team members the other two charge the enemy like some demented lemmings during the time it takes for my current character to 1. pull out his gun 2. do the attack animation 3 put the gun back into his invisble backpack (and yes.. they do that for every single attack... instead of keeping the currently in use weapon in their hands)! In other games you could select AI commands or the like to prevent that from happening.. but not in this game. I wonder what they spend the 2 years porting this from the PS4/Switch to PC? Not the controls wich are controller only... ON PC, not the combat system that is needlesly clunky (come on guys.. its the year 2022.. and we are still designing shit combat UIs?)
      I mean atleast the tank customisation is fun....
      Man...the old Metal Saga for PS2 kicks this game in the groin and takes its lunch money XD

    If you realized the true development story of this game, you would say it's more tragic than disappointing.
    Metal Max Xeno Reborn was not supposed to even be that. It was supposed to be a full-blown sequel to the original, called "Metal Max: Wild West". It was supposed to be a complete overhaul of the original system which critics has panned as "tedious" and "slow" despite the fact that it was no more tedious and slow than, say, Dragon Quest 9. But the bad word keeps pouring in and the devs got cold feet, so they decided to axe the project for both Japanese and overseas release.
    But what to make of this new engine they have painstakingly developed? Burying a massive investment like that and calling it a loss would seriously destroy the devs, right? That's why the team decided to launch the sequel, all in its unfinished state, and gave it a coat of the first game's paint to recoup their losses and call it a remake. Now I will be the last to defend the triple-A video game companies for their greedy ways, but surely you understand that desperate times calls for desperate measures.
    So that's exactly what they did and that's exactly what we ended up with: a last ditch attempt to allow the Metal Max franchise to leave Japan into international waters for the new console generation.

    Honestly, my disappointment is endless... 🙄🙄🙄 Coming from Metal Max 3 on the DS... I've seen free-to-play mobile games better than this.
    Where do I even start?
    - Nonexisting story, you just wake up and go and beat mobs.
    - Combat is bad. A traditional turn-based combat system would have been better.
    - The character design... I've never seen a japanese game this bad with characters, in both personality and appearance.
    - The MC? Who is the MC? where did he come from? why is he doing whatever he's doing? 10 Hours in and I'm just as clueless as you.
    - I've seen mobile games with better maps than this... Holy crap this map is just... sigh...
    After playing Metal Max 3, I was genuinely hoping for another great nonlinear story that brings me across a vast map with interesting characters and quirky side quests... instead, I got a very very terrible tank simulator.
    I think this is my first 1/10 game.
    Go get a DS and play Metal Max 3 instead, it's a solid 8/10 when you compare it to this next-level garbage... What the hell happened? is it the same guys? same studio and authors?? WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FLIP HAPPENED!?!!
    Sigh, Let me go play Metal Max 2 Reloaded, hopefully that won't be as disappointing.

There's an early section where there's debris blocking a side path and directly next to it is a chest with a GRENADE, people used to handholding will go "Huh weird." Wow, someone never played a JRPG. Or a game with turn based combat when complaining about a turn based battle system is the first big complain. This isn‘t even so drastically different from the system they use in Final Fantasy XII. It is even an active time battle system.
    Edit: Before someone get's anal that I cannot accept a bad review. That's simply not it. I gladly accept it because this game is way too special to appeal to a wider audience (while I have my fun in Handheld-Mode on Switch, to be very honest. but of course the game has issues and it's certainly on the budget site). I simply cannot get the complaint about the turn based combat. I think listening to this part in the review is the reason we won't get turn based combat anymore and it's really a better idea to get Final Fantasy XVI a DMC combat style overhaul. Maybe I'm just stuck on the past when it comes to turn based combat, but Metal Max isn't doint anything wrong here. I actually like how it changed from the original game. It's way more interactive now.
