Thank God for the arid countryside where the deer and the antelope roam, and for the land where you can't see the forest for the trees, and for ears that listens and eyes that can see. God bless for these and sooo much more like the freedom to worship as we see fit. 😊❤️🙏

New subscriber here. We are enjoying your videos. For years we hiked miles into some amazing wilderness to explore and camp. Then the older we got the harder sleeping on the ground started to become. So, we decided to do 4x4 truck overlanding and tent camp for years. That worked out really well because we could haul a tent that we could actually stand up in along with a couple cots, cushy pads, tables, bigger camp stove, and eventually a electric fridge/freezer with jackery power station and solar panels. We were SPOILED!
We didn’t want a rooftop tent for the very reason you are deciding to change your camping setup. The thought of getting in and out of that tent several times in the night (or day) sounded like an accident waiting to happen to us. Fast forward many years later, the old bones were getting tired and hurt from all the hauling stuff in and out of our truck. So, after much research, we ordered a Four Wheel Camper Slide-in Truck Popup and picked it up this Fall. We got their Hawk Shell which is their very bare bones, empty camper. We figured since we have a ton of camping gear already we could build it out to fit our needs.
We took our new popup camper out for a 7 day trip in the California redwoods and had a wonderful time even in the rain. Because we have a camper now we have plans to do winter camping which we never did in the past because who wants to put away a wet tent. We can’t believe how quick it is to set up camp now!
Anyway, thanks for sharing your adventure. Sometimes plans just don’t go the way we want but that’s ok because it’s still nice to explore and enjoy being out there.

Welcome to the channel!!! Your progression sounds very similar to ours. I have climbed many mountains in the past. Packing in all my gear on my back and camping places that were extremely beautiful. Climbed in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and even some places in Arizona.
Valerie and I first started off with a Class A 35ft rig thinking I could work from the road. That didn't work out since while I was working in the rig Valerie was stuck there. Didn't have the Jeep to pull around but did pull my Harley, that also she was not able to take off on. We had planned on doing dispersed camping with that, but of course you can't take those to far off the pavement. Camp grounds we found were booked out months in advance so couldn't do what we liked by taking off whenever we wanted at the last minute.
The 4x4 rig definitely fits our needs and desires to get into the outback. The rooftop tent is a good setup but as you say it's not a matter of if, but when one of us will get hurt climbing in or out. Just a matter of time for sure. That camper of yours looks like a great choice, nice!! We can certainly relate to not having to pack and unpack so look forward to the new setup coming soon. After freezing our butts off this last trip in 16deg F. we will wait to go camping until we have the new unit. Didn't show it but was using a Buddy heater off and on during the night and almost burst our air mattress lol!! Put a big bubble in the side haha!!! Pretty funny but could have been disastrous.
Thank you very much for watching and we are glad you are enjoying the content!!!

We have spent several Thanksgivings camping along the Crooked River in the past. This year my wife wanted to stay home. It is close to home (Bend) and quite relaxing. Often a few people fishing and a few Geocaches in the area. A better campsite before Chickahominy Res is the Knapper camp site near Glass Butte. MP 79 ?? It is in a side canyon and fun to collect all of the obsidian. You are correct the Alvord can be very windy at times. We just returned from 3 nights 4 days camping in the area SW of Riley, Oregon. Wind, cold weather, and snow. We camp with an Imperial Outdoors X 195. Much more comfortable than a roof top tent.

Hi SkylinersYeti, What a coincidence on your Thanksgiving trips. We had a good time there and have camped there in the summer with my son and done some fishing too. We'll have to look up the spot you mentioned. Sounds nice and my sister lives in Bend. Nice camper you have!! 👍 We have ordered a PIKA Timberleaf trailer for ourselves. Looking forward to not having to climb down a ladder in the middle of the night LOL. Warmer too for sure!! Thank you very much for watching!!!

@@woggersoverlandadventures I have thought about a tear drop trailer but could not sell it to my wife. We started out tent camping year around including in snow during the winter. After 50 years she wanted something a little more comfortable. It is important to keep the boss happy.

@@SkylinersYeti Yes Sir it is very important that the wife is a happy camper! My wife Valerie is quite the trooper but with 4 back surgeries now I worry about her every time she goes up and down that ladder. We loved the Voyager Xpedition Trailer but couldn't justify the price tag and its heavy. Wanting to keep it simple and agile we landed on the Timberleaf. Will be nice to have 4 walls for safety and warmth and it comes with an off road suspension. Yours looks quite capable for sure as well. Will be nice to be able to setup camp and still be able to go out and explore. Hope to have it by the end of Feb.

@@woggersoverlandadventures Are you going to pick it up in Colorado and test drive it home? We picked ours up in Utah and had to make a quick trip home for family birthday. Not often a 17 year old boy asks for grandparents to be there for his birthday. I wish I could have taken a week or two to camp my way home. New rigs always have issuers and always best to find them sooner than latter. It has been seven months and I am still finding issues with mine.

Great to have you with us! Congrats on the new rig. Sounds like your working on your setup. Very cool and you will love doing the camping for sure. We certainly love to get out there and explore. Would be nice at some point to go with a group we think. We usually don't make plans early so take off the last minute. Spose that would make it hard to get a group together last minute. Anyway Thank you for watching and will certainly keep the videos coming. Hey, maybe come up your way. Since Valerie's dad lives in Tacoma we get up there quite often. In fact heading there tomorrow for a day trip. Up and back since we don't have a dog sitter.
