    Both units featured are 100% bone-stock.
    At first glance they look very similar. Both are 1/10th Scale 2WD "Grasshopper"-buggies with a bathtub frame, friction dampers, rolling rigid rear axle and front swing arm suspension. But they actually only share a minimum of parts.
    The Tamiya Grasshopper 2005 (58346) is a rerelease of the original Grasshopper from 1984 (58043) and allthough Tamiya changed some small details they are almost identical. The unit featured here is the Candy Green Limited Edition from 2013 (87331), which, without the body, is identical to the Grasshopper 2005.
    The Tamiya Rising Fighter 2008 (58416) is on the other hand based on the Grasshopper II Chassis from 1988 (58074), the Super Hornet Body from 1993 (58124) and the Fighter Buggy RX DT-01 Gear Box from 1996 (58184).
    While the Grasshopper and Grasshopper II was quipped with 380 Type motors, the Rising Fighter inherits the 540 Type from the two Hornets. Both The Grasshopper and The Rising Fighter included a TEU-105BK ESC and as option parts I chose the TSU-01 Servo and the TRU-01 Receiver for them both.
    Hope you enjoy this comparison! Part 2, which features them both running with bodies etc. coming up soon.

    Very interesting as you can see the differences from the Grasshopper to the Grasshopper 2 chassis. What you need is someone to make a hybrid axle mounts that has the fixed position of the Grasshopper but fits to the Grasshopper 2 chassis. That would get rid of the axle slap in one go.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 7 lety +2

      Yes it would, but that would also fixate the articulation, just as on the Grasshopper. It's only the center of the axle that needs to be in a fixed position. The 3rd shocok mod that everybody has been doing slows the axle slap a bit but doesn't overcome the problem. Shenlonco (see his channel) shows how it can be solved with a fishing line. But I guess what we really need is a visual appealing mod in the lines with what AMPro (see his channel) did with The Hornet.

      AmPro to the rescue! He fixed the axle slap - visually pleasing and a permanent fix!

    Nice comarison with much helpful information!

      Thanks! I wondered about the differences some time ago, but it was first when I had both up close side by side I clearly could make out the differences. Hope the video will feel a bit like having them close side by side :-)

    just got my kid a RF for Christmas. but I'm old school and wish it was a grasshopper. is there any difference in performance?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 7 lety +5

      Yeah, The Rising Fighter is much bigger, faster and more durable. Modern wheel hex adapters, flexible suspension, 540 motor, DT-01 gear box etc. Your kid's gonna like it. It's like a "Grasshopper 3" or a "Hornet 3". Try watching Part 2 (a running video of both models) of this video series in my channel. I would recommend a Grasshopper for your kid's parents. That way the parants can enjoy some retro fun and your kid can enjoy running faster than the parents ;-) Good family fun.

    I really like the side by side comparison. I was just wondering if the Front A arms are interchangeable between the two?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 3 lety

      Hi. Not sure. I don't think so. The Grasshopper II arms are larger than the Grasshopper I, but never tried it.

      @@NordicRC Ok. Not going to hurt just to eBay the parts tree and try it. If it fits, I can get a longer damper for the front because it has a lower offset than the original grasshopper A arms. Cheers

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 7 lety

      Very different. They share a minium of parts like the Front Bumper. Still very much the same. They're both "Grasshoppers" ;-) So same same but different.

      +Nordic RC Visions yes I have a video or 2 of a grasshopper two, I recently sold my mint super hornet that one was a BEAUTY for sure!

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 7 lety +1

      Must check that GH2 out in your channel. Just got my first Super Hornet (not a mint but more of a project). Promised myself not to get one, and just equip the Rising Fighter with oil shocks, but couldn't resist the Super Hornet powers :-) Must have been really hard to let that one go.

      Nordic RC Visions sure was it was a nice looking buggy! But I needed to make room and I kind of hate keeping shelf queens so I parted with her.
