    Good points to consider for a larger operation. For a one-man operation, some of this does not apply. You have to start somewhere.

    G and R! Always real and poignantly done!
    I'm very curious as to how you figure out your cost per hour on each piece of equipment you use. Is there some source that gives you the average amount of hours for example that your particular ZT MOWER will run before replacement time/overhaul, etc? I can easily see how you can calculate fixed costs such as insurance, licenses, etc.
    Thanks to you and a few others in your industry, I just purchased new equipment that will service mainly the smaller sector of the lawncare market as I intend this buisness to supply me with income to supplement my retirement income. I bought a 5x8 trailer, a self propelled walker 21" and string trimmer and hedge trimmer attachment. All ECHO except the Honda mower.
    My condo association will not allow us to keep a trailer on the driveway...and my garage is small. I think and hope the trailer is big enough for my needs. I have a friend who welds so racks will help with the limited space.
    You two rock! What a great Duo!
    It just amazes me when you say "we have a hundred accounts there now." Mind boggling.

    • @GPackard
      @GPackard  Před 9 lety +1

      Stephen Bond Ron and I wish you the very best in life. I'm sure you will be able to supplement your retirement well in this business. Here's the deal on the equip. we buy new mowers ect. and run them until the warrantee runs out. then we dump them on craigslist. we usually get 1/2 the money back. we then figure that cost per year into the equation, thus your end figure. divided by the current # of clients. = your cost . Hope this helps. we will be doing another video and going into detail later on.

    Great video guys. A lot of good info. I may have missed it but how do you determine a price for a yard? I assume it's based on the size? I know you talked about researching the neighborhood and finding out what the rates are but what if it's a new yard? Do you just eye ball it or ask what the size of the lot is?

    • @GPackard
      @GPackard  Před 7 lety +1

      take a lawn you know and are comfortable with it's price. measure the square footage and whalah , your price per square foot emerges !

      @GPackard  Před 8 lety +1

      i have covered this several times but ill try to explain. everyones costs are different. such as how many employees you have to how much you pay them , are you paying them cash or on the books not to mention raises and benefits. this is just one example, you have severeal such as equip. , insurances,vehicles and the list goes on and on.

    How do you feel about (i believe theyre called) contractor wheels to measure the property? They seem to give a better idea of how big the property is rather than just eyeing and guessing at the bid. I'm curious of your thoughts.

    i have that problem with my friend, we are a team but he likes to talk alot with customers then i end up waiting extra 30 minutes for him to stop talking to them and he said its good for business to be social ? is that true? now some times it will take 1 hour for a 20 minute lawn cut, how is that good for business? it makes our days longer but no extra money is made because of the chatting...is it good business to be social??

    • @GPackard
      @GPackard  Před 9 lety

      Brian Lee you always have to be courteous to your customers, but i try to limit each visit to only a couple of minutes. If i know the customer likes to talk a lot, i will then adjust my price accordingly.
