Can we talk about Checo defending Lewis from the boos during his interview with that finger wave, what a legend.
Gigachad move
Oh wow, I missed that part.
Damn, made me love good ol Checo even more now
Top G Checo
@@IbrisOfAmber yeah and the crowd immediately stop it was something else. His country man really respect him.
@@gesucastello1986 I so need to see a replay of this somewhere!
Danny Ric closed 10 seconds in 11 laps on Charles. That's pretty nuts
He was absolutely flying at the end
I bash on often him but perhaps the mclaren car really did not suite him
Ferrari forgot who they were for a second 😂
He was on new softs against conctrete tyres on the Alpines...
@@glidertastic5778 wow why didn't alpine go on the softs , it's almost like they couldn't make the one stop work and the only drivers who did had good results .
I am just astounded at how the medium tires on the Red Bulls just refused to fall off. They maintained their pace after over 40 laps!!
not really surprised. Mercedes wanted to do 50 and switch to softs at the end at some point.
Perez did the fastest lap and that was a about it, they were saving from there onwards, Mercedes wasn't a threat
Same as 2019
max just chucking in those 1:22.5s laps like a robot
Fuel load. That simple
Props to WTF1 to even manage to find enough things to talk about for more than 3 minutes
I don’t see how this race was “boring” there were tons of battles in the midfield and behind, and the whole strategy situation was very interesting to see, I did not expect RB to pull that off. Sure no crash drama, (still we had Alonso gone out, and Riccardo mounting Tsunoda) but is that the only requirement for people to enjoy a race? Race craft, strategy, and good driving is no longer interesting? This race was quite exciting to watch as Mercedes for the first time posed a real threat to RB this season. To each their own but I found thus race quite interesting and entertaining.
@@wassimulator I've seen some mixed opinions on the race throughout the internet, it's perfectly fine (and im glad you did so) if you've found enjoyment in it. There were a couple of highlights, such as Riccardo's pace and some midfield battles, but it's more about the expectations that were set-up for the weekend not being met for me.
I didn't really like the strategy part since apparently F1 turned off tyre wear for the 2023 tyre testing and forgot to turn it back on for the race, because those tyres seemed like they were going to last forever. Maybe if Merc did listen to Russell and put him on the same strategy as Ricciardo, we would have had a more exciting race with a battle for the podium, or maybe even the lead.
I guess for me the biggest excitement was the wondering of whether Merc had a shot at the win or not, and a couple of overtakes in the midfield, but that was about it. I just don't think it was as exciting as other races we've had this season. We all already knew who was going to win, strategy blunders from the ones who had a shot at the win and 1-stop races for everyone, the mid-field was pretty much the only thing keeping m awake that race.
@@wassimulator A boring race is one you dont have to watch to know the result. The only thing we are going to remember about this race is Ferrari getting slower, Merc getting faster and Danny Ric requires a sacrifice to unlock his true potential. Hanna being big brain is impressive but not exactly suprising.
@@dustyice3110 a boring race is a race that you got bored watching. I didn’t. We don’t have to agree, especially not on that definition.
@@henryisaway The real reason the tires lasted forever was that Pirelli brought the wrong compounds (which they kinda admitted before the race). They went with the conservative option because they were afraid of excessive heat/wear and as a result we got that situation, the thing that sucked was that some teams took advantage of it and some didn’t so in the end we didn’t get as good racing as we might have.
My favourite moment of the race was when they were talking about Alonso's problems. "Oh, that looks terminal now! Oh no, that's a Williams"
🤣 Yeah that was hilarious but I was thinking the same at that moment
That was indeed hilarious
Yeah, it was latifi.
That guy was 50+ seconds behind albon.
I thought I was gonna see that quality moment in this video!!
But at least Matt told us how 'boring' the race was to him 50 times.
@@_MD_D he got lapped by Albon
The mariachi theme was great. I think F1 should do more to differentiate the races from one another in general. On TV there's almost no point for the series to travel around the world because every race gets the same stale corporate treatment. Even something as simple as cowboy hats on the podium (instead of baseball caps) at COTA is appreciated.
Fully agreed. It just adds to the watching experience. It's a show, isn't it? Let's take the show to the max :-)
@@broyout3586 Yep. I dunno if you know anything about MMA, but back in the early 2000s the biggest promotion in the world was Pride FC in Japan. A lot of fans still have a soft spot for Pride and I think some of that is the nostalgia filter removing all the bad or stupid things from our memories. Some of it isn't though. One of the awesome things about Pride is that they didn't care if what they did sometimes reminded people of pro wrestling. The fighters would get specialized entrances with pyro and things like that. That and other kinds of pageantry helped make the fights great shows (as you would probably put it). The UFC by contrast is like F1: everything is kind of bland and same-y from place to place and event to event. I like F1 and I like the UFC so that's not a deal breaker that's going to stop me from watching their product. I don't think it would kill them to add a little local flavor or pageantry though either.
Yes I want a folk version with Austrian instruments at the next Austrian gp please and thank you 👍🏻
ya can't fans get a country flair each week
I can say that Brazil and Japan could _easily_ do their own versions of the F1 anthem, and there could be a country version for COTA too. The _versión mariachi_ was just fantastic!
8:36 That video game move that Ross Chastain made on the final corners of the final lap in the NASCAR race is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. That kind of thing normally NEVER works in NASCAR, but this maniac made it work and it payed off enormously.
My brother and I were in disbelief that it worked at all. That was ridiculous.
One of us! One of us!
I made it out there! It was my 2nd nascar race after i went to the indy road coarse earlier this year. Larson felt some way about it saying it made the sport look bad but everyone love it in the stands
I still refuse to believe it even happened
I saw it and I really don't get what the craze is about
The most fun I had while watching the race was looking at all the Memes about how boring it was during the podium ceremony
The Mariachi theme song was the highlight of the grand prix
As an Australian, this was my favourite race of the year. A p7 and driver of the day felt like a win. Go off Danny!
Where’s the shoey?? haha
Fun fact: the guy from Nascar that did the wall ride that Matt mentioned was Ross Chastain, the same man that took out Kimi Raikkonen at his one-off at Watkins Glen. So for me, bittersweet; it was an insanely great move, but he took out the Iceman, so it just goes both ways.
Most enjoyable part of the race was just watching Checo’s dad having the time of his life.
Not only did Ross Chastain pass 5 cars in one corner…. He set a new track record time by over a second.😂
Video game moment.
@@KendallSeabury "That's a wall rider in the race... Please ban him... He cheats..."🤣🤣🤣
He beat the leaders last lap by over a second. He took the outright lap record by about 0.2 seconds.

Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo casually outrunning a 10 second penalty
On such a dull race that was nice to see yes, but we're talking about a 7th place.

Okay after reading the NASCAR comments about the finish today, I checked it out. Seriously it was an amazing finish, I highly encourage people to look it up. Look up “Martinsville 2022”.
For a little background, NASCAR does playoff/elimination style rules for the last couple of races. In this case, Top 4 points leaders move on to the finals to race for the championship (in terms of points). Chastian passing Hamlin for 5th place in the final lap gave him enough points to bump Hamlin out of 4th in points and take his place.
Close, but it’s top 4
@@brendanwillour7763 ah sorry, will correct
Me during the majority of the GP: 😴😴😴 Me during the theme tune: 🥳💃🤩
Everybody keeps saying it was a snoozefest but me and my friends were excited all throughout. Yea some boring moments but it was cool seeing all the overtakes being done, Checo hanging onto P3, and Danny boi making up 10 seconds for that penalty was nuts!
All in all we agreed it was a solid 3/5 race. I think we’ve been spoiled by too many amazing races this year.
One thing I haven't seen a lot of people mention is James Hinchcliffe as a guest commentator. He's one of the current Indycar announcers and I think he did a great job. I may be bias since I'm American but he was super insightful all weekend and it's always nice to hear a different perspective especially from someone from a similar racing series
I really appreciate you mentioning the NASCAR finish. It was absolutely insane!
That Nascar final lap was nuts. Ross Chastain pinned the throttle and rode the wall to beat Denny Hamlin into the championship playoff.
czcams.com/video/K3yNc5EasW8/video.html
it looks so fake but it's not and it actually blows my mind the eggs on that man
Playoffs are too cringe to get me excited, tbf, I can see drivers that have almost nothing to do with the championship winning it
Yeah, Chastain's move reminded me of an NFL hail-marry pass during the dying seconds of a game. Total madness. Gotta love it. lol
Fax that was the best finish I’ve ever seen in the history of NASCAR
I mean it was pretty cool
Just watched the Nascar ending, and it truely is one of the craziest stuff ever in racing! Took me quite a bit to grasp what just happened. Genius move!
The man who did the Mariachi Version is called Jose Skertchly. You can wind him like that here in CZcams. He has the original video.
Apparently a hot take, seeing all the opinions on the race after:
The race itself wasn't boring, there was enough action and exciting storylines unfolding (performance of different teams on hard tyres for example, or Ricciardo's charge through the field), but it was just not covered by Formula 1. They only showed the boring parts.
I watched live, there has definitely been more exciting races but this was not a horrible race. The "will they won't they in" the first 20 laps with Merc vs Red bull, the o man red bull can pull this off in 30-40 laps. Ricardo driving like an insane person to make up that 10 second penalty to keep P7.
I mean geeze do people need 10 passes every lap and for 5 cars to crash every race for them to be entertained?
@@thisfool89 exactly. Not every race is the same, and this wasn't the most exciting one of the year, but also not the most boring one imo. Just the excitement that was there was barely covered if at all.
Apparently Sky just wasn't interested to show the good racing and battles.
@@aishwarygaonkar2601 you know it's not Sky deciding which shots are shown, right?
@@dani-mana yes I know bro. It's the direction team. But Sky as a broadcaster is still awful w.r.t International coverage and audiences
This video has more action than all 71 laps 😂👌
My wifi dropped around lap 70, I see it as a blessing from the internet gods
At least Danny Ricc provided some entertainment
The last nine laps of that NASCAR race had way more excitement than that whole race. Ross's move was beautiful & hilarious.

@@red5standingby419 I mean... yeah, NASCAR us dying a slow death, but it's still racing and we as F1 fans should have stopped with that boundless arrogance towards anything else decades ago.
@@gandalf_thegrey 100%, this snobbery makes it easy to kill motorsports in general. WEC coming strong next year tho
Best race rundown by far. Watched it like 3 times and loved the flips and camera effects 😂😂😂
Max was on pure tire saving mode all race. Gave a false idea of Lewis having a chance. He was driving so conservative that he thought the softs had gone off when they had a ton of life left in them.
honestly even if merc took the other tyre start there was no way to win. Even if ver didn't save his tyres and endend up with a puncture in lap 60 he would have gone back to p1. That car is streets ahead
Yeah it really didn't matter what strategy Merc did, RB would probably have been able to run the entire race on those mediums lol
@@Reydriel It seems this year tyres often last a while. Vettel on soft for half the race iirc, albon doing all but 1 lap on hard in one race. It kinda screws with the strategy battles.
But also abu dabhi last year, ham on hards for 3/4 of the race, so maybe I'm wrong and it's been the case for a long time.
@@escalator9734 The car was streets ahead in Belgium, but the Merc upgrade in COTA made them fast af boi.
They have left Ferrari in the dust (although the altitude just killed the engine which made them look worse than normal)). Max graces us with the same brilliance we saw in the likes of Schumi, Seb and Lewis.
Sure the car is great and since the break the best on the grid, but you still need one of those drivers to be anything close to being that dominant.
@@escalator9734 So why didn’t get Checo p2? If the RB was that far ahead?
This guy is such a vibe. I love this channel and all the members. Keep it up haha
Good on you mentioning NASCAR good ol' Ross Chastain taking a move out of EA NASCAR Heat to get into the Championship.
I decided to stay on the NASCAR race today since it was the penultimate race. Sounds like it was a good call, and man that last lap was freakin Amazing 😂😍 props to you for mentioning it!!
I'll start this by saying I'm a NASCAR fan first and F1 fan 2nd... NASCAR's final restart with 25 laps to go (500 lap race around a 0.5 mile track) was around lap 60 of F1 and finished about the same time... I didn't notice a single thing that happened in Mexico till the podium
No one cares
To long term F1 fans that race may have been boring, but to newer fans like me, I enjoyed it!!! I finally got to see mid and lower field teams get coverage and action! Top tier teams always get coverage, hence, it was refreshing to see other teams get some coverage on their shenanigans.
Laughed so hard when we thought Alpine was struggling, but turned out it was just Latifi going slow in his Williams xD
Yeah man, 2 stars for this one. Danny was the best thing to see all day. He rode that McLaren like it's supposed to be done.
Loved that Ferrari meme, horse walking away. I've never seen it or remember seeing it. Even the Prancing horses became bored and went to eat grass. that one landed properly.
Modern F1 fans just can't appreciate strategy. Sure it didn't play out because the mediums lasted forever when we thought they would fall off pretty quickly. By the time we realized they were gonna hang on Dani Ric was on the charge. I loved the whole race from the tension of strategy early to Ricciardo on the charge late.
Sad we couldn't see George's strategy play out considering what Danny Ric was able to do. Merc taking pages out of the Ferrari play book?
Merc’s strategy has been questionable on more than a few occasions.
They weren't going to overtake the RedBulls I don't think
The only way that strategy could work is if the Merc could overtake the Redbull on track and they can't. The only way a team other than Redbull is winning a race is if RB dnf
@paper plane Seriously? 🙄 Let's leave F1 Twitter on Twitter.
"Maybe because Lewis would be at risk" Just a little bit of unsubstantiated conspiracy theory happening. That's all. Are you implying Merc has been favoring Lewis all season? Any evidence for that?
Aside from Max being 'god-like' as usual, I thought having James Hinchcliffe on the last two weekends was great. I hope they bring him back in the near future, it made the whole race weekend fun.
Wait, there was Hinch?
As a Ricciardo fan, I didnt find the race boring at all.
thank you for mentioning the NASCAR it was absolutely mindblowing! 🤯 Mexico GP's F1 theme song was the best thing of the GP today. then there is Danny Ricc
I literally felt exactly the same at the end of the race😂 being a rb fan I really wanted checo to win but happy for max BUT I still felt a little ehh about the race but when that mariachi f1 theme song started playing at the end it made life better again👏🏻
Nascar won in the states today. Amazing finish.
Throughout the whole race I was looking at the gap between Hamilton and Perez hoping he could get in DRS
Checo just never got close enough at "Foro Sol" to activate it. THAT woudl've spiced up the race.
As a Lewis fan I was just looking at the gap between Lewis and max and just got sadder as the race went on 😂
Honestly, I thought this was an incredible race! The strategy was so close and while mercedes clearly misplayed it, getting to watch Danny Ric return to form was great to see. To me it was not boring at all, in fact it was a top 5 race of the season!
I actually didn't think that the race was that boring, I know it wasn't exciting in the tradition ways of safety cars and overtakes but the constant anxiety of whose strategy (merc or red bull) would be the better one was quite entertaining. Def not anywhere near one of the best races of the year
I bet George is kicking his strategy guy for asking to do the same tire strat as DRic, and seeing him fly through the field on the last 10 laps. Matt - the race rundown was better than the race! Great job.
For a race it might not have been that exciting, but for a parade it was very exciting!
I feel like I was the only one that actually enjoyed the fact we had a boring race. After so many good races this season it felt like a nice change of pace. And it felt nice to have a break from the drama.
Ricciardo got the same penalty as Hamilton got when he took out Verstappen at Silverstone last year
I enjoyed watching it, plenty of solid overtakes by racing and not strategy, rain, or RNG. Note, I have no dog in the race and enjoy watching mid field just as much as the front
Overtakes were literally only from the McLarens lmao
I almost wish I could watch F1, unattached to teams or drivers. Would have made this season more palatable
@@EpicoNubletto Try it for a season you will actually enjoy it much more or just root for one of the midfield teams.
Plenty of overtakes? Most of the overtakes were from cars that are ahead by 1 pitstop and were basically just passing through traffic. The entire race was a snooze fest with everyone trying to keep the engine and brakes from exploding
I'm with you on this. There was enough action on track. It was just very badly covered. Been shouting to see the action I saw in the timing sheets...
Thanks for the NASCAR plug! Im fairly confident Ross Chastain’s final lap balls to the literal wall move is going to be immortalized in stock car racing and it is seriously a wouldn’t believe it unless you saw it.
That Danny Ric on Yuki meme gif was brilliant! Yuki was minding his own business.
me, my daughter and a friend met at a local restaurant/bar and watched it.. sort of... he had never met my daughter so they chatted a fair bit and we all chatted a fair bit and kept looking over at the tv and thinking "oh look, top 6 are still the same" and then we would go back to talking... it was good food and decent pricing, all that matters lol

The band playing the F1 theme was the greatest thing of the season.
I would be so great when we would utilize the music styles from all over the world.

Craziest move ever
Until Max kept pulling away with about 20 laps to go I was still thinking he would have to pit for soft. So the race ended a bit anticlimactic, but the different possible strategies we could have made it a bit interesting.
Max drove 1:22 laps for 44 laps straight... His consistency is just insane.

The first race I’ve actually had a chance to watch… and it was that. Plus I’m an alonso fan 💀
Mexico hasn’t really delivered for some time now
By that standard we should also drop Monaco...
@paper plane Note that since the wide body era (2017-present) there were none great races in Monaco. There is simply no room pas another driver on track. If we see an successful overtake, it usually because the other driver didn't pay attention or made an error. The fact that Ricciardo in 2018 was able to finish the race with a comprised engine (no working turbo) as a race winner and Hamilton was unable to overtake Ricciardo for 2/3 of the race says all we need to know. The only reason why Monaco is still on the calendar is because 3/4 of the grid lives there and it's an traditional race. Otherwise it was yanked faster of the roster than the French GP ;-)
As an American with such a banger of a NASCAR race, it made this feel like even more of a snoozefest.

Yep. I forgot there was race this weekend until my dad brought it up to me on Saturday.
Nah Brazil will be a corker, it’ll be worth it
You can tell Merc were expecting a 2 stop from Max when they didn't immediately bring Lewis in to pit the following lap because if they thought those mediums were going to last to the end, they would have known the hards would be good enough to swap to.
Basically, they either needed to commit to the late one stop softs or immediately put for hards and hope to hang on.
Might have been a more interesting race if they had...
Thr ending of the nascar race was crazy, and the start of the Supercars race was crazy, an 11 car pileup.
Not really sure how you call that race a Snoozefest Matt. Two slow pitstops, two DNFs. Max absolutely running away from the rest of the pack. was a awesome race 7/10 and that Podium was awesome as well!
