- My in depth review of the Lomography Sprocket rocket. Lomography calls it the worlds first panaorama camera dedicated to sprocket photography. this camera shoots wide format images exposing the entire negative including the sprockets for that unique look.

Dude I know right? I used to be tight with Landyachtz. I really think if I started a skate channel it would blow past this one but I dont have a fresh flow of gear.
Thanks for this review of the Sprocket Rocket. I keep considering getting one, but I haven’t yet made the decision. Your review is the best on CZcams.
Thanks so much Beetle. Yes it took me weeks to put this together because I wanted to run much film through it to get a feel for it's behavior. Something tells me I should try a holga next.
This is the best review of this camera. Hands down. Great work.
Thanks for the amazing reviews! Is super helpful 🧡
Just picked one of these up. Love this video. Thanks so much!
Those images Ray look creamy and retro way above my thought process amazing review as ever huge congratulations on 5k subscribers keep it real Brother 👌🏻🎥
That's the best comment ever big Paul. Thanks for stopping by . All I need to do now is take your social media Guru course to reach the next level lol.
That’s pretty crazy. I kinda like being able to see the sprockets.
Whats up Dopp I thought you went off the grid lol. yes sprockets are where its at its a shame more companies dont make cameras dedicated to this format. oh we had int'l convention 3 weeks ago in Miami. it was awesome.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Very nice video, best review of the Sprocket Rocket I fond out there. Keep up the work man!
hello my man thanks so much, it's important to be honest and detailed so folks don't have to look all over the place to find answers after watching your video. you're welcome to check out my other analog film reviews on the channel. Good looking out
Thank you for this review I bought the camera w/o doing much research so thank you so much for going super in depth to how it works and how the pics comes out! Super excited to start using it!
Whats poppin Val thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. let me know how it goes for you
Nice review Ray, and congrats on 5k subs!
Thanks so much my man.
An incredible review, you help me alot to avoid the mistakes that I did in my first film. Thanks! -gracias al vídeo me animo más a conseguir un flash para la cámara y usarla con más diversión y experimentando la exposición multiple!
Such a useful and complete review, an excellent starter's guide for this camera. Thanks Ray, you probably saved me many blank frames!
Unfortunately there will be no more reviews since he is dead ;(
@@amdfanatyk oh no :(
Thank you for the review. Very helpful in learning about my new camera :)
You're welcome JF, definitely share your results plz when you get your scans in .
Excellent review.... and great video production! Thank you!

Thank you Ricardo, all eyes on you.
Thanks for your review👍

Great video review. Thanks for taking the time to do an in-depth review of the Sprocket Rocket.
Awesome Joe you're welcome by the way what am I subscribers told me they can't find it in stock anywhere so be prepared if you're looking to buy one
@@Raychristofer I did notice that on Amazon last night. On the Lomography store site they offer the Red and Black models currently.
Thank you very much for this superb review!
Thanks much for checking this out. I've got several film related videos you might like also. Respect
That's a great video, really helpful!!! Thanks a lot for reviewing it, sprocket can have really nice results!
You're welcome. Definitely share your results if you're not scared LOL
great, very very interesting video!

thanks for this video Ray, it really helped me to decide to buy or not the sprocket rocket. and at the end i chose to buy it cause it looks so fun and unique, so now i better star saving my money haha. Great video and pics btw (-:
Hello and you're welcome. Thanks much for taking the time to comment, this video has hundreds of views and I'm curious what people really think. Let me know how you like the camera when you get it. Feel free to share your images and experience
Another quality video! Love the image at 3:38. Lomography is all about fun and the Sprocket Rocket definitely looks like fun - perfect match for your Digitaliza. I just backed their “Metropolis” film on Kickstarter - should be out in February.
Thanks for passing through my man and checking this review. If I'm ever in your town I will come through with the sprocket rocket and hook you up with a sprocket tastic portrait LOL. Wait did you say February? Good Golly that's a long time. I'm still wondering how it will behave when the scanner tries to color correct it or if that film will need to be scanned as a negative and reversed in the editor without having the scanner do its color correction
Raychristofer You’ve got a good point about that color correction - I guess we’ll see in February
I was checking out the Lomography website and was curious to learn more about their Sprocket Rocket camera...which, made me search youtube for a review. Really pleased that I found your video. I thought you did a great job and covered its aspects well. From an artistic perspective, I think this could be a fun camera to use, not only for its quirkiness, but for its double exposure element as well. And, with film scanning and cropping in Lightroom, one can achieve a variety of interesting prints. Well done!
Off to learn more about using 35mm film with an adapter in a medium format camera. Cheers
Hello thanks so much, I think a folding bellows camera would give the best wide effect, google adaptors for 35mm to MF
Another great video mate ...nice one
Thanks man. I had fun making this. I'm working on a review of ars imago bw film next
Congrats on 5k subscribers
Hey thanks couain Stephen. Honestly nothing really changes with 5k it's just a steeper treadmill if you know what I mean lol
Hello from Miami! Thanks for video.
Word up. Your welcome 😊
Irrespective of whether I would ever use this camera or even going back to those good ole film days, I like the unique effect of film role at the edges of an image. I'm going to make an action for photoshop that create this effect on my digital life.
Thanks, man and a good review as always.
Hello Sam how are you? Sorry for missing this message so long. Definitely I'd like to see your results of that self-made preset. Thanks
The limitations of the Sprocket Rocket are why I opted for a 135 to 120 adapter instead. I just run 35mm film, in a 120 camera with a 3d printed adapter I ordered from the FPP store. I get a slightly better result & all the exposure capability of whatever camera I load the film in. Thanks for the review! You helped me make my decision a couple months ago. I figured I'd come back & give some feedback
What's up my man thanks for taking the time to comment it means a lot for me to know what people think of these things. Also I would like to see your results with your adapter and what cameras you use it in.
Stupid I didn't realize you ran a film Channel, I will definitely check it out.
I just got mine today and haven’t shot with it yet. Looking forward to it. It’s definitely a unique look and you have to let go of the usual expectations of sharpness and detail. I’m mostly a digital shooter now but I’m looking forward to having some fun with this camera.

hey this is a really good video, thanks a lot! I have some dude about to buy sprocket or Holga panoramic, but this video it´s really cool! I want to buy the sprocket rocket is amazing camara :) thanks =D great job
Hey Ray, I have the adapters and an Rb67 and I tried a roll but it was all screwed up but now YOU have inspired me to try again !! I have an old roll of long expired film and will sacrifice it to watch the film move across the plane to see how much to advance it after each shot . looking back the scans were broken up ,I don' think my scanner understood what it was seeing but anyway I will shoot a roll tomorrow !
thanks man, yes you have to manually crop the images in scanner software. make sure the camera is level too
Fantastic review - also a great suggestion that Lomography make an upscale camera with a LTM mount.
Unfortunately there will be no more reviews since he is dead ;(
Good video! I had no idea the lens was plastic. I was looking into buying one recently.
Yeah man holgas are the same, its a toy camera thing
thanks Ray for a very informative video on this camera. i just ordered mine, its a new old stock for 40 dollars, can't wait to test it up. but i'm a lil' bit worried about the zone focusing since it doesn't have a distance marker in between the close up and infinity. can you give some rough ideas on the distance scale. appreciate it bro 👍👍👍
Informative!
Thank you, glad it was helpful
Refreshing camera review Ray! Everyone else is going mad over the RX100 :-) I really like the character and style. I think the prints would make great large prints in a cafe/restaurant. Would it be possible to show your scanning workflow. I want to get back into 120/35mm but not sure what scanner would give reasonable results without breaking the bank. Keep up the good work.
Thanks much Glynn after talking to others I'm realizing maybe I'm being too critical of this image quality. Look at my last video review of the lomography digitaliza it explains my workflow, I'm using an epson v600 got mine about $180.00
Considering how the pictures were taken, I really think the quality is not bad. The look is pretty cool, it can be used well every now and then. Although I have no idea of analgoer photography, but I think in the long run, the films would be too expensive for this camera. But every now and then a snapshot with it is a great thing.
Thanks man. For film photos CZcams really doesn't show the true look of it so here's a link to the full res version on my Flickr. Do me a favor and check it out and magnified to let me know what you think.

Thank you for this great review. While this camera is lightyears away from pefection, photos taken with it have their own character. I really like the imperfection :)
Hey thanks so much for taking the time to watch this and comment. Means alot. What I've actually started to do is use older vintage cleanses on my 35 mm slr. Even a 3 element model to get lomo effects. If you get one plz share your results also. Respect
@@Raychristofer Subscribed to your channel :)
I used to have the Sprocket Rocket. Then I upgraded to the Xpan. Love the format, just wanted better optics. :) Great video!
Thanks man. Xpan is what's up. You leap frogged all formats. Even the cameradactyl lol
sector5films how are you enjoying the xpan? Just got one recently and so far I’m enjoying the experience, but it is defiant a whole new way of thinking in terms of story telling, composition etc. It’s a head scratcher that I’m enjoying. What’s your experience been like?
MissEnefiok honestly it’s become my favorite camera of all time. I love the aspect ratio and since I enjoy shooting with rangefinders it’s a perfect for. I’ve got a short video up on my CZcams channel with it. I also like shooting vertically with it. Like you said, it’s a whole new way of composing and working with it.
I have only seen 1 minute and 48 seconds of this video but I already like it so much that I want to share it with you in a comment
Thanks for the informative review. I was considering the camera but you mentioned being about to use a Rolleicord and getting the same results. Could you maybe do a video about how to convert a Rolleicord for use as a 35mm panoramic camera? I have one and the lens is outstanding. It would be fun to try it as a 35mm panoramic. Thanks and keep the reviews coming.
Hello thank you, its best to use a folding bellows camera for panorama as you can get a much wider shot instead of the small square and the rollei you have to hold the camera awkwardly sideways. look up 35mm adaptor to medium format.
I loved watching this video. The subject matter looks more interesting with the Sprocket Rocket. The medium format camera shots with 35mm film are sweet. I can't do that with my Zeiss Ikon because the film moves in portrait mode.
Unfortunately there will be no more reviews since he is dead ;(
good vibes mate.
Hello thanks my man
The review is pretty good. And agreed with all the points you mentioned. Instead of putting a plastic lens, Lomography could use a glass at least leaving the rests as it is!
thank you youre right, I think one of their cameras now have a glass lens option
Hallo Ray, thank you very much for this excellent review of the sprocket rocket camera. I think i might buy it. Could you add some information on how to get the film properly developed and cut, since the negatives are longer than ordinary ones. I would scan the negatives myself with the lomo digitaliza. But how can i view the scans on a computer screen? Do i need a special viewer or app to do so?
I love your videos and subscribed your channel. I shoot film with 35mm slrs and Russian medium format cameras and develop black and white negative films myself. I appreciated your film reviews very much, particularly the one about Lomos Berlin Film.
All rhe best and good luck. Greetings from Hamburg.
Jutta N. Hinrichs
Hello thanks for stopping by. No special viewer they scan like any other film. You do have to manually draw the rectangle crop tool around the images though in the scanner software for each image.
Who disliked this wonderful video :( it’s a shame
Hahaha thank you so much. It touches my heart with you just said because I think I've said that a few times on other videos that I love. I think I have one hater out there . Bless his heart. Glad this video was helpful and don't forget to think about trying the film in a medium format camera as well
what adapter do you use for sprocket photography on Medium format?
The camera does come with a removeable frame (at least mine did) - if you leave the frame in . . . no sprockets but same wide-angle characteristics. I haven't used mine yet but have not had a problem using their other cameras with ASA 100 film. In bright sunlight I keep the setting on cloudy to let in more light since the shutter is geared for a faster film. Sharpness? Well, I use the museum analogy. When you go to an art exhibit to look at paintings there is no mention of, "Is it sharp?" It always comes down to the composition. The right composition matched to the medium you are using. Kind regards.
Hello thank you for that detailed comment, I sure did forget to mention the frame mask. Let me know how it goes for you I'm curious.
Thanks for this, I had no idea what this thing really was..
Lol! I probably wouldn't necessarily recommend it to beginners for that very reason
could you do a video on how to use it? i’m kinda new to cameras and i got one of these for my birthday but i cant figure out how to use it. do i have to do something with the camera after i take a picture, like wind it somewhere? or does it do it automatically?
Hello how are you? This video pretty much shows basically how to use it and all the controls. When you're finished you turn the rewind knob and keep turning it until the film is back in the canister. The rewind knob is on the far left side. Check the instructions also for more details
Cool!!!!
Unfortunately there will be no more reviews since he is dead ;(
This is the best review on this camera I've seen yet, I also have this camera and I am super annoyed because I get the negatives back and I have the big gaps like you do, where some rolls I have full photos, others only 5 or 6 photos. It winds in my bag, the counter is confusing, plus it's more expensive to get developed and scans of panorama photos at the darkroom, so it's like wasted money for only a few photos. Anyways, thanks for the review, I also agree that they should make a more professional version. I love the look because it's so cute and fun, but I am now reluctant to take it out because I know it's more money, for uncertain results. I'd rather not risk it most of the time.
Thanks so much for your commentand for checking out this video, I always try to be extra thorough and detailed when I make these. There's a lady photographer on Instagram who modifies point and shoot cameras to shoot the entire negative with the sprocket holes. Look her up on Instagram @analogtastic. she has one of her Instagram stories that shows how she does it and the cameras are very affordable. That's probably one of the best ways to do sprocket photography affordably. Thanks again
@@Raychristofer thanks, I'll look her up for sure! I hate bad photos coming back from the lab. It's so disappointing! I shot like 10 rolls with the sprocket rocket and I keep getting mixed results. The double exposures have been amazing, but the skipped frames are so frustrating.
Because the turn knob will be hard to turn at the end of the roll you know, but you arent really sure how many you've shot, so you can rewind the film too soon. How many frames on a 36 ct roll do you think it can take? I think I've gotten 16 or so the most
@@ByeByePeachPie hello you're exactly right. I think I got 17 shots once because I loaded the film in a dark bag. But that is the correct amount for a 36 exposure roll. don't be afraid to learn to develop color film and buy a scanner it's not as hard as you think. The color chemicals are about $28 and you can develop about 15 rolls with it
@@ByeByePeachPie what kind of film camera do you normally shoot and do you get good results with those?
I am glad you talked about how to scan the negatives.
Have you ever used (or built your own) pinhole camera? Definitely the results from my pinhole experiments were more primitive than from the Lomo.
Nice video!
Hello brant how are you? yeah man how i tried pinhole was drilling a hole in my lumix body cap and pitting aluminum foil on the hole and pressing a pin hole. it worked but was not impressive at all. maybe my hole was too large or not smooth enough. if I can find a way to cut a 120 roll into squares I might give it a try. can i see your results? by the way im curious how did you come across this vid.
@@Raychristofer Thank you kindly for your reply! I am a subscriber since close to a year ago. I liked your sailplane. It reminded me of these R/C sailplane kits from maybe the 80s or 90s... something called the "Bird of Time".
I built my first pinhole camera from a round cardboard oatmeal tub them switched to using a plastic body cap on a Canon FD SLR body. I had a small metal working lathe and it did a nice job out drilling the lens cap to have a countersunk hole. I think I used a CA glue to hold a square of metal foil to the inside of the lens cap. When dry, I used a pin chucked in the lathe and spun the cap with the lathe motor to drill it out.
It worked well enough to take a few pictures on color print film. I still have the photos, but that was 20+ years and nearly 2000 miles ago. I'll have to find them.
After trying the pinhole cameras it became clear that the chemistry of photography worked, but you needed to have lenses for the best results.
There are some books about pinhole photography and some actual decent photos worth seeing. There was one photo I think was named "Immaculate Confection" that was well done.
@@Raychristofer The fellow who took the "Immaculate Confection" pinhole photo is Jim Moninger. I think the correct title of the photo is is "Our Lady of the Immaculate Confection".
The pinhole camera book I had was by Eric Renner. The book has been through several printings, but I think the edition I had was from the late 80s or early 90s. On ebay they are selling used copies for about $4.25.
@@brantmorrison3704 thanks, my fav pinhole images are ones that I can't tell if it's a day or century ago . Dang you've been around since the glider!! You're vintage lol. Respect
@@Raychristofer I think the glider probably predated me on youtube by a few years. I don't recall what we were talking about. Maybe we were discussing some kind of M42 lens? I know your glider video is about 5 years old, but I think I only saw your photography video a year or so back. Does youtube tell you when I subscribed? Anyway, I remember your sailplane.
Hi Ray, a nice review again. I would not buy it. But use my old Zeiss Ikon Nettar with hexagon front plate 6:9 midium format camera. And this gives a very big panorama picture.
Hello you are so right about using a folder. Only problem is the pressure plate can't hold it flat so smaller aperatures are best. Plz share your images if you can
In Bulb when the flash triggers twice, does the picture pick up one flash or both?
That's a good question. I don't really know because II flash triggers on the upstroke and the shutter may be closed or closing the same time that second flash triggers
I will say that the Sprocket Rocket has more character!!!
Unfortunately there will be no more reviews since he is dead ;(
Love this review and I might get this camera!. Do you have instagram or flickr so I can check out the pictures You took with this camera? Hugs from Sweden

@@Raychristofer Following! Thank You just ordered my camera. Have a nice day!
Is there a shutter locking mechanism to prevent accidental press? And how many exposures can we achieve for a 36 film? Thanks in advance. And thanks for the review. 👍
Hello how are you? There is no shutter locking mechanism unfortunately I was able to get 18 shots on a 36 exposure roll But what I did was load the film in a dark bag so that first image I got probably would have been wasted so it's safe to say you will get 17 exposures on a roll. Thanks for checking it out feel free to look at some of my lomography film reviews also
@@Raychristofer I'm fine, thanks. Hope you're feeling well too. Thanks for the fast reply 😊👍. Keep up the good work.
Hi, do you know if I can use a Nikon sb-400 flash with this camera? If not, what flash can I use? Thanks a lot!
Hello any center pin firing flash will work. I don't know about all the manufacturer protocols though
@@Raychristofer thank
Cool movie! It is such a toy, but the quality is only acceptable for the chosen ones. If I had it, I would try to replace the lens with a glass from some cheap compact camera. Only if such a camera would be sharpened. I thought about adapting the compact camera to remove a piece of plastic inside (where are the rails) with a hot knife, a scalpel to melt the plastic and then remove an unnecessary fragment, etc., so that the film is illuminated with holes. Maybe it will work, but I am looking for a cheap camera that would make it possible, because some backs are cast and some allow "drilling" the window. Regards:)
Cool video, Ray ;) As na intense sprocket rocket user I'll add some bits:
- IMO this camera pairs best with Lomocolor 800 - gives you this one stop of error-margin more ;)
- it works awesome with Lomography's flash for Diana (which has double discharge prevention, as it charges-up very long :D )
- by the design of the shutter release, you need to hold it quite firmly to reduce handshake - you can see that photos with flash only are way sharper than those with natural light at 1/100s
- when in doubt: put ISO400 BW film inside, shoot, and use stand development with Rodinal :D
One thing I miss is pinhole... and dedicated cable realease (as you mentioned) ;) Cheers! instagram.com/p/BqQ2ekNA58N/
Whats up Konrad, man I wish you were here when I was shooting this review it would have been a good tag team of minds, thanks for chiming in. I used it with the flash in that one black and white selfie and yes its crisper. thats funny you mentioned rodinal because I just developed a roll ten min ago of 120 Potsdam in rodinal, its hanging to dry. Lomo 800 ey? Ill def try it. I did a deep review of it on the channel also. good lookin out.
13:31 Very true.
Thanks , you're the only person who mirrored my thoughts on that. We're super smart 😎
Do you think someone would be able to mod this camera to use a different lens? Or is it impossible?
Unfortunately there will be no more reviews since he is dead ;(
Out of production in Summer 2021. Not available for now in the US.
The Rollei is sadly a lower level 35mm p&s…
It’s now 2024 and they just released this camera in 2 new colors!
does this support normal 35mm film?
Yes, the film I showed in the review is normal 35mm
@@Raychristofer thanks for the fast reply :D
@@Raychristofer But that has those spots on both the sides :/
@@kartheekdravid4482 yes , all 35mm film has sprocket holes on the side, it's what the camera gears use to transport the film. you asked does the camera support normal 35mm film. It's all the same film. If you're asking can you shoot photos without the sprocket holes yes you can. The camera comes with a mask that covers the sprockets
you say this is a toy? those pictures are great...
The Rollei is boring!
