Só happy I came across your Mum's channel! Nearly cried when I heard "Rama"! I am living oversees and my mom just passed away in George. And I cannot travel there. She was also a great cook. I am trying this recipe as soon as my boys are allowed to visit! Your mum is amazing!
I also used to live abroad for many years and videos like this really brings a touch of home and makes one really feel nostalgic for home and family
@@angiehoosen4570 Só true Angie!
Thank you and I am glad I could bring you a piece of home!
You cooking from the heart mum with love. I reminded so much of my grandma..she use to wake up at 4am and make roti for every family living on the same property in Clairwood.
Lotsa love mum..from Kurdistan Iraq 🇮🇶

It's lovely and enjoy working for the oil industry in the middle east. Your cooking reminds me so much of home 🏡. I wish you all the best things that life bring you ❤
You remind me of my late mum and grandmum. What a pleasure to watch you share this precious knowledge with the world. I am finally starting to learn to cook traditional indian dishes and I couldn't ask for a better teacher.
God bless you Mum and Son for being the perfect duo.

Auntie thanks for your videos my mum thought me how to make them just like you do, the secret to getting them round, she used to say was in the method of rolling, slight pressure on one side of the rolling pin and nothing (just guide it)on the other side🙂🥰

Hi Aunty Gaythri thanking for doing this for us. I lost my mum and you remind me on how to cook in our Durban Indian way. You need to get sponsors for you channel so you are rewarded for channel. Love and Light ❤
We are always trying to get sponsors on board, I am sure it will happen soon!
For the very first time I saw the use of putting one roti o top of the other when toasting .. to make it rise more.I just subscribed to your videos.Thank you for educating / teaching us Indian cooking traditions that will get lost as younger people tend to buy food rather than cook .
Thanks and welcome!
Perfect rec aunty gaithree. Can't go wrong

Well done to you Ma..your roti skills are amazing!👏👏 Even me too cannot roll roti so round..I'm always making Naan😂😂
Ah, if you see the latest video of the dhal roti I show how the secret is rolling the dough round in your palms first. But also takes lots of practice - I have been making rotis for more than 40 years now :P
You are Soo talented our Master Chief ❤️❤️❤️🙏 tq
Ah Thanks!
Thank you for this simple recipe. Ma, you remind me so much of my Mum & Aunts... I will attempt this as I have NEVER been successful at Roti making before. I will let you know how I do...

Thank you aunty gaithree tried your recepie of making soft rotis I must say they came out perfect and beautiful, enjoyed by all
So glad to hear it!
Beautiful round roti , I still can't make good roti , I will try your recipe and see what will be the outcome 😊
Best of luck, let us know how you go...
Ma,you are so kind and nice .love you.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Im glad i came across your channel and you are not using yeast or baking powder for roti .thank you been looking for this recipe 😍
Welcome 😊 We use yeast for our naan recipe as that is fluffier and thicker. The roti doesn't require it because its thin and soft.
Thank you Aunty. You are a national treasure
Thanks so much!
So devine.
Thank you!
Aunt lallie u are tops
Shot!
Love it.... "Dry roti for a rich curry" 😍

The Roti recipe looks lovely..would like to try it..can i use butter , instead of Rama in the dough
Yes you can do that.
I hale from the Carribean. We use roti as a wrap with curried meat and veggetables.
The street food I grew up with.
I mentioned to sY thank you fir showing me how to make the plain version.I only learned dalpourie
We also did a dhal puri version. But sometimes it is too heavy so the plain version goes well!
Thanks mum definitely wil let u kno 🤗
Lovly roti I make it da same way
Thanks 🙏🏼
Lovely roti must do a demo on meali meal roti
We shall do that soon!
I need that bowl, they are perfect for roti
Yes they come in very handy!

czcams.com/video/Xjwpbpai2EQ/video.html
Wow. Thank you so much.
I hope this helps 🙏🏼
My roti comes round
Now I'm making your way roti
An sugar beans curry
Iv been making rotis for year but the sides are always hard. Thanks for this recipe
My pleasure 😊
Healthier to use atta and oil or even butter/oil mixture.
How long do you keep the dough covered in cling wrap for before rolling it out
Hello 👋🏾 Not very long. Maybe less than 10mins. It is more to keep the dough from drying out as you roll the rotis.
@@GaithreeDeviLuckan thank you ma🙏
Thank you and God bless ❤
You are so welcome!
Wow watched this a year later and thank you lovely young couple 💑
Thanks so much!
I love this video and how you present.. Can I ask.. I follow all the steps but my roti comes out rubbery, do u know why ma
There could be a couple reasons for this. A little extra oil could be the cause. Also the water has to very hot (just boiled) for the dough. It could also the flour brand - different flours can lead to softer or harder rotis. We prefer using Snowflake cake flour when we make rotis.
@@GaithreeDeviLuckan thank u so much for replying... Can I pls ask you one more question.. Since my water is just boiled and I'm measuring out the oil, I heard you say that the heat has to be right. I always thought I must toast it on high, could it be that the roti is undercooked.. Thank u so much
@@narishamanelah4139 Ah yes could also be the reason. The heat must be as good medium - it may take a few times to get it correct. Too high will burn the outside. Too low and wont brown nicely. Also try to turn only 3 times. Practice makes perfect as they say.
@@GaithreeDeviLuckan thank you ma.. Pls don't stop making videos
…for those of us outside South Africa, could you please explain what the yellow coloured ingredient added is?
Hi Christopher, thanks for asking - it is margarine. I use the brand name here (Rama) rather than product name. So equivalent of saying Stork or Flora in the UK.
What is a curry spoons oil?
One curry spoon translates to about 4 table spoons.
Aunty, you love your margarine 😘😉😊😁
We do! And it has to be Rama as well!
