Both the original Charmed and its reboot follow three sisters-the Halliwells and the Veras-as they learn they are powerful witches called The Charmed Ones who must protect the world from evil forces. I'm super excited to share this video with you guys where I breakdown every original Charmed reference in the Charmed reboot. Everything from the surprising similarities between Elders Gideon and Charity to how Macy's connection with Medusa parallels Phoebe's with the succubus, to the call outs to P3, the trademark door closing scenes, and so much more!

This video deserves more views. As a fan to the original charmed I was excited that they were making a reboot. After hearing the direction the show was taking I was a little turned off but decided to give it a shot anyway and I'm glad I did. It's not as bad as everyone makes it seem. The graphics are great, I like the story line, and each character is relatable in a way. It's no original charmed so to compare them is not fair. Try to watch the show as something inspired by the original show not something that supposed to be exactly like the original. Watching your video and seeing some of the things I missed was cool.
Thank you. Someone else to relate to. I love the OG Charmed, but I really like he reboot. It was modernized in a way. Gave us a new sin on how the Power of 3 works, and much more. I can't wait for S2!
Yes yes yes 100% agree with this! And thank you for saying my video deserves more views. So glad you liked it ❤️
I’m excited for season 2 as well Victor!!
Thank you so much 😊
Same for me. I had no intention of liking it & now I'm looking forward to season 2.
I think the show would do better if it wasn’t “Charmed” and didn’t have to live up to the original.. they could’ve used and different name and connected to the families or something
I think other than the title and the references, it is a pretty different show with new characters and storyline. But I see why everyone is comparing it back to the original. To me this is like an extension of the Charmed universe following a new journey.
Kristen Maldonado I want them to somehow bring at least one of the originals back like if the summon Prue from the dead or if Cole was the source or something even if Leo was one of the elders. There are so many was to satisfy fans of the original while giving the show a new name.
I don't think it's even necessarily a matter of the new show not wanting to do that -- I think a lot of the OG cast just isn't interested in being a part of this reboot.
@@cameronbroome7635 Fans would want to remember them as Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige and yes none of them want to be part of the new charmed based on their statements and hated each other.
@@kaymaldo I completely agree, my sister and I have been huge fans of the orginal charmed since we were kids waiting for new episodes to premiere and being a little skeptical of the reboot we still decided to give it a chance, and honestly we really like it. It was fun and kind of silly to see these new character younger then our orginal sister going through modern day, more relatable -age-wise- problems as well as the problems the halliwell's faced being witches in a busy world. The truth you can only really enjoy the reboot fully if you just remind you're as much as we would like them to be the same show they're not and we need to stop comparing them. Because we're likely to final more difference then similarities, but that doesn't make the reboot a bad show its actually really good once you just let it be it's own show, if you don't think of it as charmed you won't find you're comparing and then you can really get behind the story lines and shenanigans of the characters
The reboot can't hold a candle to the original.
@TheCZcamsBoyif that is what you believe, it seems to me from this video like they accomplished that largely by cheating off someone else's paper.
@TheCZcamsBoy ....
.
Whet?
@TheCZcamsBoy Lmao that's not true at all
@TheCZcamsBoy The show is good. But the fact is, it will NEVER be better than the original. At least in the direction it is going in now.
Anyone who has any taste in entertainment can see that.
@TheCZcamsBoy 1. I haven't watched since the 3rd episode
2. I never said I hated it, all I said was that the original is way better.
If I had to choose for one to be gone forever, it would be the new one
They should have did a spin-off with Chris and Wyatt 🤷🏽♀️
Malasha0318 there is one
@@RegioLobo no they didn't?...
Thankfully there is fanfiction.net and AO3.
Some of my favorite are:
1. The Disgraced Lord
2. A Pair of Ragged Claws
3. Out of Ashes
Well they didn’t sooo
Ricardo Fuentes what’s it called?
There was one line that Harry said in the pilot that made me smile. He said to Mel something along the lines of "Oh your power is to freeze time. Very common with control freaks. ".
We all know who he was talking about🤷♂️
Ah true but technically Piper’s power wasn’t time related! It was molecular mobilization, combustion, and acceleration.
Kristen Maldonado Yea true! But she was always referred as the "time freezing witch" by demons so it may be a reference to that! I don't know it just clicked right away when I heard that line 🤣
Very true!
Yap. They just changed it to Molecular-based when Shannen left. just to make her the strongest sister. Piper was supposed to be time-related or Temporal stasis just like Nigel (warlock) in Penny's time. From Three Essentials of Magic Timing, Feeling and Phases of the Moon Prophecy. She was referred to as the freezing witch or a witch who could freeze time by demons. In the future self, she never displayed combustion. Her power to freeze things just expanded to a larger scale. I wonder if they worked on their issues, what could have been their Advanced Powers. I guess, she could also have combustion if writers wanted for Piper to have it. It's like a temporal acceleration to the point where it gives too much friction or pressure of the molecules that causes it to explode? Haha You know sometimes they had weird explanation just to connect and make the story plausible. Just like Phoebe's Levitation.
Yeah totally
When Mel and Maggie are talking about the freaky Friday movies and Mel says the original is always better than the reboot😂😂😂
😂😂😂
I was like “And I oop” *sips tea*
because she grew up on enchanted people and she is clearly older than all of them and understands that the original does not surpass))
Still don’t want it 😕 Tell then to keep those girls please 😕 I want Chris, and Wyatt, the twins, little Henry, Phoebe children etc 😢
Thank you it’s only been 13 years and I wish everyone would quit calling it a reboot is not a reboot since it has nothing to do with the original it’s a remake if they were going to do anything they should have done a show with their children not random people
@@maddycrawford3765 Reboot is another definition of a remake. Reboot will often have different elements and will attempt to distance itself from the previous films. Chilling Adventure Of Sabrina is a reboot, but has nothing to do with the originals. I respect those people if they dont like the reboot but it's getting better. At least, Charmed Reboot are still 3 sisters who happened to be a witch but in different twist. We all know what happened behind the scenes/off cam issues from the original cast to the writer and producer. Somehow I was disappointed on how the story went and how it ended. To think all the 3 original cast wanted to leave Charmed, but Holly couldnt due to her contract and Alyssa didnt, since Shannen left first. To be honest they were all good Actors, but they could have settled their issues or set it aside.
Totally agree --- but side note: I would argue that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina isn't a reboot, since it's actually an adaptation of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic book series. Sabrina has been an Archie Comics character since 1971 and there have been many comics, books, movies, tv shows about her.
@@kaymaldo 😊 Netflix called it a reboot from Melissa Joan-Hart's Sabrina the teenage witch, but yeah orig. From comics. But CAOS is a horror and at times gets suprisingly dark in a series and way different from the comics and Melissa's STW which was a bit romantic and light.
It's an adaptation of the horror comic book series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from the Archie Horror imprint that Archie Comics launched back in 2015. They have several horror comic series including Afterlife With Archie (which if you look closely in CAOS episodes you can see people reading or holding the TPB), Jughead: The Hunger, and Vampironica. All the comics are much darker than the characters normally have been -- it's really cool. I definitely recommend checking it out!
I need a new charmed movie or season but with the original cast 😩
You deserve an award for the you editied this video!! I love it 😍it's been so long since I've heard someone talk about charmed, I really appreciate all the hard work and effort you put into making this video.
Thank you so much!!! That means everything to me ❤️
One you missed was when Maggie was imprisoned in the locker room shower of episode 12, was similar to when Prue was imprisoned inside of her tub because her fear was drowning.
Other then that amazing job with this video
Great catch! Glad you enjoyed the video Christopher!
i three more one, in episode 1 of reboot and season 1 ep 3 when mel and maggie came home they crows in the house its sameler to the shapeshifer that turn into crow when the sisters and victor came home two, in the same episodes maggie found a damon dog in the woods and prue found in her house tree, the shodow damon spell sounds like the woogyman spell
This was just…wow, this must’ve taken a good minute to research and record. Well done 👌👏👏👏👏👏
Yes! About 25+ pages of notes (which I'm hoping to take advantage of for several other Charmed-related videos) and two weeks of research and editing, but thank you so so much!
Someone in the Charming podcast fb group (where I found your channel from guest hosting an episode, btw) had mentioned Maggie’s emotion spell was similar to Piper’s fearless spell in A Witch’s Tail Part 2
Very true as well! And so glad you were able to find my channel from that podcast episode I did -- I was so excited to chat with Abbey because that was my favorite episode of the season!!
@@jnbg61584 I deactivated my Facebook page for the second and last time on Monday, November 21, 2016, but every once in a while I find out about a Facebook page that makes me want to consider reactivating it, but, thank the Gods, I still get over that fleeting thought, rather quickly.
Nevertheless, a Charming podcast Facebook page sounds very nice, and so glad it was a feather in the cap of @Kristen Maldonado.
The more I see of the reboot the more I like it. It’s not supposed to be a revival of the show. It’s a new version. If it was the same characters with the same plot everyone would be rooting about how it’s just the same. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤯
Totally agree Josh! I thought more people would be able to separate the shows honestly because it’s completely new characters and stories. I like that it’s different. If they tried to make a new Prue, Piper, Paige, or Phoebe I don’t think I’d have been as willing to try the show out. Their iconic, so never want to see them replaced, but definitely think there’s room to include more witch sisters!
I personally think of the charmed reboot as the OG charmed ones great great grandchildren
Exactly totally agree the reboot is different and refreshing. Either way the haters would complain ' its copying the original if it was the same or it's not like the original then its different '. Personally loved the reboot.
Totally!
I always hoped the reboot would have been about the girls kids, like Wyatt and Chris and the rest, there’s much more story you can tell with the same-ish characters. No hate tho, that was just my hope. Lol
It would’ve been cool to see the Phoebe Piper & Pru’s name in the book of previous charmed ones
The biggest difference between the original and the "reboot" is ... The reboot is a spot in the face to the true fans. They literally used the name for fame. They could have taken all the "connections" out and made a few small changes and it would have been a good show. But no. They had to go and disrespect so its a huge thumbs down for me. Hate it.
Hope it’s not a thumbs down on my video as well 😂
@@kaymaldo oh absolutely not! Video was great and I loved how in depth you went on the similarities. I'm just so disappointed with the reboot. Definitely gave you a thumbs up!
Thanks, Green Ranger!
When Macy stops Galvin's heart at 10:12 it is also similar to when paige was being influenced by the source and stopped a man's heart in season four, the episode charmed again part 2
Ah yes that makes sense as well!
"They are about THREE sisters who found out they were witches"
1 second later: show picture of FOUR sisters.
Well yeah gotta represent all four even though they show up three at a time!
@@kaymaldo I know. It was kinda a joke
Anh Nguyễn Quang 😂
Didn’t watch the reboot and I’m not planning to, but this video was great!!
Thank you so much!
Spring Lady watched it and doesnt compare to original it was disappointing didnt like it tbh mostly the lesbian in there was hella annoying tbh always having a problem with everything though i did love the whitelighter
Spring Lady my thoughts exactly
If you don’t compare it to the original it is not bad at all
Geovanni Lizardi pretty hard to not think about it when the title itself is charmed with 3 sisters that are witches and a whitelighter maybe if there were 4 instead then if could be something else but that’s literally what i was thinking about while watching it is how trashy it is to the original
Anyone else notice how the Reboot packed the Entire Charmed 8 seasons into One season.
Yeah it is kind of true. Although originally many people said they wanted more references because they didn’t see any connections between the original and reboot - so I hope this showed how much they did reference!
@@kaymaldo a parentally there is Roomers that there is ment to be a season 2 for a chance for more storey lines just to see haw it all goes for the new charmed
No rumor, it’s def getting a season 2 with brand new showrunners, writers, and a new more supernatural direction.
The youtube channel Movie Nights has a series of reviews/recaps/discussions that they were doing the next day after each episode of the Charmed reboot aired, and that was a very very common theme to come up in a lot of their episodes. A lot of talk about how the pacing of storylines and character arcs felt like the writers were always trying to pack as much as possible into as little time as possible.
Nice! If you haven't seen them already, I also did reviews/discussions of each episode the day after they aired. You can find them in my Charmed playlist on my channel!
Im worried about seeing Melinda in the pilot .cz honestly i dont want this gals to b tied to charmed i mean our ORIGINAL charmed
They actually show her twice! I think it could be cool to dive into their family history.
I didnt watch much after pilot cant brinh myself too but where do they show her twice n y?
It's actually in my video! It's the pilot and the Manic Pixie Nightmare episode. They show her page in the book of shadows both times.
You seem like such a nice person!!! I loved watching the video not only cuz i love Charmed but also cuz youve got a very positive vibe, great job, have a great day!
Aww that means so much to me! Thank you Victor! 💖
also something i noticed, in the first season of the original where they meet the demon who puts holes in people’s heads, he says he is there to stop a boy in the future from stripping his demon side with science and medicine. I’m pretty sure he even calls him the “parker boy.” This lines up with the reboot as Parker’s mom tries to eliminate his demon side using the shots and injections.
Wow that would be cool if that was connected!
Thanks for sharing! That was a lot of work you did there and I learned a few things since I've never read the comics! Awesome!
It took me a solid two weeks of research (hahah upwards of 25 pages of notes!) and editing to put it together but I'm really proud of how it came out. Thank you so much for watching!
This is amazing! Didn't even notice a lot of these.
Glad I was able to find them for you!
This was such a fun video. You picked up on some things I didn't even remember from the original show. Nice work.
Thanks so much, Fred! It was a lot of work, but it was really fun too!
Wow I was looking for something like this! Thank you

Just goes to show you Hollywood has ran out of ideas they have to use old references & plots from the original.
You did an excellent job on this video
Honestly everything now in Hollywood seems to be a reboot or remake 😂 glad you enjoyed this video!
Liked this video a lot!!! Please keep making more when the next season comes on 😊
Absolutely, Rafael! Glad you enjoyed the video
Im an original charmed fan. The book, Ouija board and special effects in the reboot are not great at all. Not a lot of effort has been put into props for the reboot which is sad. I was 6 eps and just couldn't watch anymore
I enjoyed them, but to each his own. I think the first 4 episodes were pretty solid and then things get really incredible around probably 12-16 but the other episodes are lacking a bit.
Same...I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but couldn't watch anymore 🤷🏻♀️
Same
Whose great idea was this show anyway? So sad for this generation, all they have is cheap cringey reboots of everything
You're not missing out. In the reboot first season they introduce a new coven, their version of the elders, and the Source only to destroy all of it at the finale. I'm surprise they got a green light for a second season.
If you want check out my review that I go in detail.
czcams.com/video/i90OTMlfZKw/video.html
In the episode where the girls go up against Fiona, Harry tells them that Fiona can't "mirror" their powers like she did with the S'arcana. That made me think of Matthew Tate in the original series episode "The Witch is Back" where he can "copy" a witch's power once it's used on him.
Ooh great reference!
You've really done your research, I'm impressed! I can't believe I forgot about the Nexus I have watched OG Charmed SO many times about 8 times through LOL but I am a fan of BOTH versions. Gonna check out your Roswell one too, I watched the original well after it aired but I really loved it, so I'm gonna see what YOU think of the reboot cos I'm not sure if I'm gonna watch it yet or no. Anyway another awesome review from you, thank you!
Thank you so much! It took about 2 weeks to make this video 😂 I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope you check out Roswell NM too because honestly it surprised me how much I loved it!
Great work on this video!
Thanks so much Ashley!!
Thanks for all the work you did for this video! XOXO
Thank you so so much!!
Yanno, I haven't watched the reboot because to me, the Halliwells will always be the one and only Charmed ones. I've seen a few clips of the new show and it doesn't work for me. In its favour id say its great the show has non-white casting in the lead roles and has a strong feminist message behind each ep. But other than that I find it to be reductive. Now the original show wasn't flawless (so many plot holes, continuity errors and I hated the way the sisters were objectified in later seasons) but it knew itself and wasn't trying too hard to be amazing. The new sisters seem constantly clueless has to whats going on around them, everything's a surprise. maybe thats referring to what its like to be young and just figuring life out and all that but It doesn't work for me (and besides we have BTVS for amazing everything is a metaphor storytelling). I dunno. maybe I'm just old now and its good the reboot can find new audiences but its not for me. I did enjoy this video though, was great to see the similarities so thanks for all the work you've put into it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching my video! I had a lot of fun putting it together

William A I agree, I would have loved if the reboot was about the originals babies, like Chris and Wyatt..
@@dialupsoldier546 you mean a sequel not a reboot?
I wish the original Charmed cast made a cameo or met the reboot cast and they worked together to defeat a demon

Oh amazing hi to you in Brazil! Can't wait for season 2 too!
Great job with this!
There were so many little things I missed and others I recognized as well. One similarity that I noticed was in the episode where Charity was messing with Macy's memory and making her think she was going crazy, it kind of reminded me of the season 4 episode "The Fifth Halliwell" when Cole keeps messing with Paige to drive a wedge between her and her sisters.
Thanks! And great point!
OMG i missed so much !! Now I wanna rewatch the original Charmed and the reboot so i can compare !! 🤩😍
Hahaha yess! Glad you enjoyed the video!!

The original will always be the best in my opinion. They should have never disrespected it with this reboot. They could have made a continuation with the Charmed ones children.
Luckily the original is still on Netflix for anyone not a fan of the reboot
@@kaymaldo True story sister 🙂
Great job on the video. i have to admit I stopped watching the reboot after the second episode and I didn't get through the whole hour. I really miss the old show, and really wished that the reboot would have picked up where the old one left off. It would have been cool to Wyatt and Chris and siblings and cousins take over.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Reboot starts out rough but gets better. Don't know how well tying in OG Charmed would work as the lore was so inconsistent in the original so the reboot has had to change some things in order to provide more satisfying lore.
It definitely gets better!
It seems others didn't mention it, but when Mel first attemped to freeze time, she did it like Piper even if it didn't work.
Very nice video. You did a good with this.
Thanks!
I really don't like the reboot but i adore the original series so much
That's okay, everyone likes different things!
I loved the original, watched every episode from day one. This charmed has also won my heart and I'll continue to watch as long as they go. This show though compared here is its own entity. You can love both, it's really ok lol
Awww glad you enjoy both!
Great job on the connection to the original and renewed series
Thanks Johnathan!
You're welcome
the same letter first names was similar between the 2 as well, with the original's sisters all having P names and the reboot's having M names :)
Yeah totally!!!
I'll Always love the original. I started watching the new one and though its not bad, its also not that good. Also, The description of this new remake ticks me off a little. It's described as a more feminist version with the characters being younger. But that's just not true. Other then having a gay lead character, What else makes this new one more feminist? Prue, Piper, phoebe, and then Paige were kick ass successful women who never needed a man. Prue was a art/antique curator before she became a photographer, Piper was a manger and head chief at a successful restaurant, then became the owner of a night club and eventually she opens her own restaurant while basically single parenting a super powerful kid, and though she bounced around jobs in the beginning, phoebe became a advice columnists for a news paper, and Paige was a social worker. Also, the new Charmed ones are not younger. I don't know why it keeps saying they are. At the beginning of the first season of the Original, it says Phoebe just turned 21, Piper is about 24 or barely 25 and Prue is 27 and Paige is 2 years younger then phoebe. To me the new ones just act younger because the show is set like a tweeny drama like a lot of cw show these days, which makes them feel younger. To me the new sisters seem less independent sense Harry has to keep popping in and telling them how to act and what to do. The original sisters figured it out on there own. Leo was just a guide. Not a teacher. This White lighter acts more like Giles the Watcher from Buffy. Also what the hell is up with the way he talaports? He's Apparating like Harry Potter? Someone should tell this Harry he's not a wizard. lol. Sorry I had to. lol. Sorry for the long comment.:)
In terms of the feminist story - I think something was lost in translation with their promotion. The OG Charmed was def feminist, especially just like intrinsically in the show. I think when they touted the reboot as feminist they were referencing having really in your face stories around those topics like diving into the Me Too movement, etc. And I will say I also thought Harry was too involved and wished he let the girls be more independent at first watch but I think when I watched it on Netflix the show was a bit better. Watching it week to week live on tv it lost some of its storyline and the pacing felt off, but to binge watch it all at once later on it made much more sense.
Pridecat89: i have to agree with you friend.
Well done Kristen.Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching Cody! Were there any that really surprised you?
I miss some connection to original. You are the best.Thank you.I cant wait to see your season 2 rewiew 😍🤗👏🙏
Thank you -- I'm excited for them too!
Thank you for this awesome video. You founded stuff that slipped by me!!Love Charmed. Love Charmed reboot! Both awesome shows. Would LOVE to have a guest spot visit from the original three (or four)!!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
When the demon in the pitch pipe required the sisters to work together it is like when the sisters in the original lost there powers when the anger demon tricked them into using there powers agents each other and they needed to work together. And in the original piper and Leo go to a magical couples therapist and they switch bodies.
I am a charmed fan from way back, and nothing will ever be better than the og show but I didn't think the remake was as horrible as I expected it to be.
Another thing I noticed that was along the same lines in both is the killing of the elders. In the episode(s) oh my goddess pt 1 and 2, the titans tried to wipe out all the elders and Allister/hunter/Fiona did the same in the remake.
Agreed! It’s not perfect but it has some great moments. Thanks for sharing another connection!
Honestly i dont like the new Charmed. The old one will forever be the best. Alot of the stuff is soooo much different from the original. And i know they dont have to be the same but its so different its really noticeable.
I think that’s the point! To me it’s like an extension of the Charmed universe - it’s all new characters, stories, locations. But at the same time they still have some references and connections - like the ones in my video.
@@kaymaldo well i guess your right.
@@kaymaldo but u know what i meant is that Piper and Leo that was epic and it was like a big big part of Pipers story line cause you know she ends up with Wyatt and Chris. And This Piper doesn't even think of their whitelighter like that. Among with Page not even being in the storyline.
Well see that's what I mean. The original Charmed already exists with Piper and Leo. This reboot isn't the same character, so there really is no Piper. The girls have some similarities to past characters but it's new characters. This is Macy and Mel and Maggie and Harry.
@@kaymaldo ahh. Okay.. Like their own story line but still Charmed. I get it. Thank You!
Is there is one thing I wished the reboot Charmed could’ve done was to bring back “The Power of three will set us free” chant. It would’ve tied in all the Charmed multi verse together.
There's a few here I didn't know about! I think one of my favourites is "It's on Level P3, but it's a secured area!" lol
Yeah that one and the door closing at the end were awesome. I also loved the connection between Macy/Medusa and Phoebe/Succubus
I can think of a few more but overall you did a GREAT job with this video. Extra points for catching the connections to the cannon comic/novel. For all the people that didn’t watch the reboot out of loyalty for the original, I was the same way but please give the reboot a chance. The reboot was needed to give the gift of charmed to a new generation. yes how the CW did it was shady to the OG cast but that’s not the new girls’ fault. Give it a chance. You’ll be glad you did.
Thanks Julian! Feel free to share the other ones you caught that I might've missed!
They should not have titled this “Charmed” because the cast aren’t appealing or pretty at all. No offense but com’ on the originals looked so good on tv.
I love the show so much that other than just re-watching it I got the triquetra tattooed on my back as my first tattoo and I hold it dear to my heart.
Awww that's amazing!
Something I thought about while watching this is how even when Macy re writes things the sisters always have a feeling that something isn't quite right is like how when The Cleaners came and took away Wyatt , The sisters but especially Piper had a weird feeling and eventually remembered.
Oh great connection!
What about the names. In the reboot, all the names begin with an ‘M’. In the original, they all begin with a ‘P’.
Yeahhh! P3! M3!
Most of these are more parrallels than references but good video anyway :)
It was sort of a combinations of all the similarities and connections and references - glad you enjoyed it!
I want to add: this video is very well put together. 👍 Although the reference to saving private Leo episode. Leo wasn’t stripped of powers. That was simply a flash back of when he was human and was unable to help his friends during the war. Medically not magically.
Thanks! Although that was just a reference to the episode Saving Private Leo where he wasn't able to use his powers. Not that scene in particular when he was in the war. I just needed a visual to represent the episode.
Currently started rewatching to original series. Still love it. Those girls always have me crying or laughing. I haven’t seen the reboot. I’m still on the fence but it’s interesting to see this video!
Thanks for watching, Eric! I’ve got a lot of videos up on my channel about both versions of Charmed including a full review of the reboot if you’re interested in learning more. I think eps 1-4 are surprisingly not bad, and then around 12-16 is incredible. The rest is okay, but even though it’s not perfect I still enjoyed some of the new places they went to as a whole. Episode 15 is the best one imo.
A lot of ppl are highly against the reboot and trust me I'm a HUGE Charmed fan from day one of the original series and never did I think I would actually like the reboot. Takes a while to get used to it with the first few episodes. But it picks up half way through the season and has a decent story plot despite the CGI and props not being too par and the slight changes in abilities and character arcs. I mean season one of the original series was a little questionable too but being as it was made in the 90s we give it abit of leeway. I can honestly say I actually enjoyed it and wouldn't oppose to a new season. I think u just have to give it a chance.
Absolutely agree, Dala!
The Charmed reboot is a modern day ripoff of the original.
Well it's a reboot of the original -- doing some similar but some different things
I know right, its more of a lame copycat than a "reboot" it should've been called something other than "Charmed" they're leaching on the originals success
@@ambzerambzer8800 well said new reboot sucks actress abd actors have talented its just the show its self sucks!!!!!!!
You did an AMAZING job!
Thank you Elizabeth! So glad you like the video!
I’ve had it saved for a bit to watch. I just finished watching the reboot last night and immediately clicked over to your video. I grew up watching the original series - it’s one of my favorite shows. I thought they did a great job, making it different but still similar enough. And as I was watching I noticed all the similarities you talked about. It made it feel familiar but still unexpected!
Aww that makes me so happy you had it saved! Thanks for watching it, I'm happy to share what I found with you guys!
Kristen Maldonado Thank YOU for sharing!
I have to say...that you did an excellent job as making the comparisons. I did notice a good amount of those. Especially the themes of many episodes.
Originally, I wasn't planning to watch the reboot. After watching, I'm almost guaranteed that I won't watch the second season. I'm glad that there is an explanation of why every story line in Season One was resolved. I would like to give my reasons why I won't be watching the next. However, I don't think that this is the place for that.
This video is about the references made in the Reboot that are from the original. Once again, you knew the original very well to discover all of those references.. I definitely commend the work you put into this video. I'm guessing that it took a lot of time...
Thanks Toma! Yes, it took a bit over two weeks to put together. And feel free to share your reason why you won't be watching in my season 1 review video: czcams.com/video/q3WmpeftbcY/video.html
The original charmed is much better than the reboot.
I mean at this point, yes. But there are some solid moments in the reboot as well.
I really like the original Charmed but the reboot is really good too I liked it
Glad you enjoyed it and hope this video was fun for you!
I like how Marcy uses a lot of science to help or improve spells and positions. It reminded me of piper tweaking positions in the kitchen to make them work better (and if I recall sometimes taste better lol) I will forever love the OG best but I’ll give the reboot points for some great ideas, like the whole Medusa angle omg that was great! It reminded me of Phoebe in the Godiva episode.
Nice! The Medusa episode reminded me a lot of Phoebe and the succubus!
I luv that u did this. So maybe now more OC fans will get on board. I admit I too was hesitant to watch. Im a rabbit origanal charmed fan, do I understand people being devoted to it. However Im a man who has to make decisions based on my own research & experience, so i went into Reboot with an open mind. I quickly found myself in luv once again💕 Not only seeing the sisterd im an updated environment but as a black guy seeing women of color take on the mantle of the charmed sisters brought me to another level of delight. I think they have the right balance of OC references & new skool mentality. I saw a comment below & a guy said that maybe they should have used another tittle. Ok well go with that! Just envision ur looking at an entirely new show, or like i told a friend pretend that theres a multiverse & this is a nother demensions version. However you do it, just do it! Cause u may n missing out on wht could potentially n ur old new favorite show.😜
And to the girl that said she would have liked to have seen a descendant version. Im with u, that would b so cool. I think there's room to explore the charmed universe. Im here for it all. So if these exsects are smart they should definitely b lookin into it😉
Sorry u guys bout the. TypeO's i was n a rush & really excited.
Yesss, I'm an OG fan too and was openminded about the reboot. It's not perfect but there are some wonderful gems in there. Episode 15 was my particular favorite. I also like to say, think of this as another story in the multiverse -- we have new characters, new location, new stories, I'm excited for season 2!
No worries, love the excitement!
1. I also feel that both 1st season finale has the changing "alternative through time n space " element. Like tempus reverse time to have the charmed ones dead. And Macy changing time n space to have the assurance no ones is leaving her alone.
2. Iterative names. Like p tradition for the Halliwell. And M tradition for the Veras. But it is not confirm.
3. Also felt that Maggie was the some kind peacemaker between Mel n Macy. As phoebe was with paige n piper. Or piper for prue n phoebe.
4. Dunno why. It may appear weird. I found the two blondes sisters ie Charity n Fiona as Billie n Christie.
5. Someone on youtube comment about Lucy mixes something in parker drink as Aunt Gail do to the charmed ones.
6. Many elders die( seriously) in an event of the charmed comics. Forgotten. Also kind in the season 5 finales Elders was hiding from the titans so elder was some kind hidden from the evil killer ( Hunter) in Ambush. Love the episode.
7. Jenny Gordon "annoying character" in season 2, is also referenced as a former student in Kappa Spirit. A lady who know that spirit named Jana gordonson I think.
8. Maggie imprisoned in water in You are dead to me that Necromancer Episode. Leo imprisoned in water in Sense n sense Ability( one of my favorite). But Maggie come out dry being captived by an innocent witch but Leo drenched being captived by an Evil Crone.
9. Macy be also be some kind of Phoebe for the greater possibility of turning Evil as Wyatt the great Child. You've mentioned that in your weekly review.. Think so. Macy being Half being as Paige. Being a Telekinetic as Prue. Having Evil sight a Psychic power as Prue Astral Projection. Sometimes can be seen as Phoebe Retrocognition n Clairvoyance but can't be premonition. Marisol Prophecy can be seen as Premonition. I think premonition is more instant n prophecy takes time to happen. Lol...
Really Appreciate your Review Kristen. Thank you very much. Waiting season 2 of Charmed to see again your interesting review with a neutral yet analytical approach.
Thanks.
Thank you, Abby! That really means a lot to me :) And thanks for sharing some more examples!
Love the extensive research that you did. I hate the reboot. My loyalty is tied to the OG charmed. #ForeverCharmed
Hahah thank you for the love in regards to my extensive research! ❤️❤️❤️
*Great Job* from a fan of both shows 💜💜💣
Thank you!!! ❤️❤️
Love this video!! I love the new Charmed and the old Charmed your video proved how awesome both of them are I wish more people would give the new one a chance because it is it’s own thing anyways I guess you can’t please everyone
Thank you Shils 🙏🏽❤️
I watch first 3 episodes of reboot and it sux I can't stand it I prefer the original Charmed bring the original back please with the Charmed one kids continuing with the legacy
I think the show really picks up in the middle of the season and has some nice moments
I'm crossing my fingers Macy will one day use her powers by squinting her eyes like Prue in season one.
You never know!
You did a great job with the research :) I watched a few episodes myself of the reboot and it wasn't as bad as I had assumed it would be, BUT it didn't capture my attention like the original series. I think the main difference is that the original Charmed felt a bit more "adult-oriented," a bit darker - whereas the reboot felt more teen-oriented, being a CW show. I think the original reached a larger audience as a result - older audiences could enjoy it while younger audiences wanted in on the more "adult series" too. The reboot is likely to only be enjoyed by the teen / pre-teen audience, in my opinion.
Thanks! Yeah I think the CW is a bit of a younger audience but it could appeal to OG fans as well or even get younger fans interested in the original show
At end of season 1 episode 1 when Macy closes the door with her power like Prue did
I don't know why, but I hope Macy does the eye squinting like Prue did in Season 1 of OG Charmed. I always got a laugh at the sound effect that would play when that happened. I also hope for Mel to throw her hands out the way Piper when she she froze time. Loved those references btw and nice Charmed research. Do you plan on reviewing more seasons or episode reviews of OG Charmed?
Something that was missed in the video when you compare Macy and Paige first coming into their sister's doorstep claim they are their long lost sister you will notice both of them are wearing orange clothing. Prue's spirit also closed the door at the end of the season 7 finale.
Hang on, Prue shut the door at season 7 finale? How do you know?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! I have like 25+ page notes on the first season of the reboot alone in an effort to do a bunch of fun videos like this one around it. I am planning to get back into finishing my reviews of the OG series as well.
I did notice both girls were wearing orange -- and both Maggie and Phoebe were wearing white too! Maybe its symbolism? A sign of being the first to accept their new sis?
@@JJDK485 Because the sound effect of her Telekinesis is heard and it gives you a clear indication that its Prue's spirit that closes the door.
@@Surgemaster2012 Oh Wow. I never knew that. That's so cool.
@@naturistfred Here's a clip of it actually I timestamp it. czcams.com/video/hGrgaxhxDeA/video.html
They also included other moments where Prue telekinetically closes the door. The Season 7 finale has Prue's telekinesis sound effect, but its faint. It happens as Daryl is leaving the Halliwell's house. However the indication of Prue's spirit there is notable.
A lot of it is just called being unoriginal... For a show that pressed so hard to claim it will be a fresh and stand alone take, there's a lot of the same that's just executed poorly. I knew they didn't have what it took from the start when they changed Phoebe's power. Premonitions take planning; reading minds and Maggie's inconsistent empathy ability does not.
On top of that, the writers dropped the biggest ball of them all - what it means to be Charmed. They focused more on showcasing powerful, quirky magic and family (supposedly). The Veras' goals of trying to figure out who killed their mom and saving Parker, highly overshadowed the fight for the greater good that made the Charmed ones Charmed. Yea, they had to figure out their wacky powers at the same time (Veras' training?... nonexistent) but they saved and protected innocents on a personal level which solidified the essence of why the Charmed Ones are who they are. The most the Veras do is stop big crowds of people from getting hurt, which, as a viewer, paints no real sense of the trouble and pain being worth it all. There has been no one to connect to except for the sisters and a few minor characters (who are usually much better actors). Billy & Christy thought the original sisters grew selfish after 8 years. They would have hated the Veras from the start. It's not personal gain per say, but it's major neglect of the biggest lesson and a strength the originals sisters gained. A strength I don't think the reboot writers are even capable of creating. The fact that the aspects of the show the writers mentioned they focused on more weren't very apparent in this season, makes it that much more worrisome for season 2.
I agree with you about them not really saving innocents which was a huge part of the original series. I will say though that going into season 2 they have brand new leadership in the showrunners and a majority of new writers. They’re planning to go in a completely new direction so maybe they’ll fix some of the bigger glaring issues.
@@kaymaldo Still not too hopeful. The show is choppy in so many ways and so much is rushed through in their attempt to make the first season entertaining and wild. They literally ended the big bad the Charmed Ones were prophesied to defeat before it could be truly evil.
If they believe they've successfully checked off what they were attempting to establish in the first season, I have a feeling a lot of those points will be neglected in the second season. They'll be so focused on new, that they'll lose what was "good". They're looking to focus on the magical world which, like in most sequels, results in adding new environments and, in this case, more fascinating magic, but also common in sequels is the major risk of missing the reasons people liked the first one to begin with. I foresee a lot more unnatural feminist plugs being inserted into the script as they take on their leadership roles as well... This is already a reboot so they're not starting off so hot on the quality front, and I don't foresee it lasting much longer lol
I guess we'll see what happens next!
Something the reboot ia missing is diving in the relationship of sisterhood and the power 3. From the pilot, the og charmed show us how powerful and how connected are the sisters to one another and in the the reboot we don't see that much. It seems that in the reboot they are powerful individually and they get more powerful when they're together but in the og they were powerful because they were together and I kind of want to see that.
I get that. I original felt like the reboot didn't focus on the sisterhood much but then I realized it was a central theme in terms of trying to build a relationship between them. But realistically there's going to be some hurtles since they didn't grow up together. Kind of like how Piper had a hard time letting Paige in at first.
How that reboot show is still on the air is a true mystery.
I don’t like the new one tho
That’s okay, to each his own! Hope you liked my video!
Really dislike the reboot. But love og charmed
Hope you enjoyed this video as well!
Harry and Leo say in the series "that's tomorrows problem" when there in two situations (piper also says this)
Nice!
I remember in the mermaid episode, Piper had used a spell to remove her emotions and fears when she was pregnant with Wyatt. This caused her to not fear for her baby's safety whe she was being tortured by the sea witch and when she hit a rock she thought she killed her baby, but Wyatt healed himself in the womb. This reminded me of what Maggie did with that green ointment.
Nice reference!
I love both the OG charmed and the reboot. Y’all can’t compare the OG which has 8 season to the reboot that has just one season.
Good point!
It just dawned on me NOW that the last episode of the reboot when Macy went back in time to see Marisol is kind of is like a call back to S1,E22 finale of the original “Deja Vu All Over Again”.
When Macy held Marisol in her arms and Mel was about to attack her Macy blasted both Mel and Maggie away. I’m not sure if she accidentally killed them or not but Maggie was blasted through a door and Mel was blasted against the wall to the stairs. It’s somewhat similar in a sense to the season one finale of the OG Charmed when Detective Rodriguez threw an energy ball at both Phoebe and Piper sending Piper through the window of one of the manor doors and Phoebe into the wall at the stairs. This was flipped in the reboot though lol.
Yeah that was a wild connection
The new charmed it’s so good! People were so quick to judge. The show isn’t the same and the old charmed, the original could never be replaced in my heart, but I really loved the reboot and the characters really grew on me😭❤️
I enjoy both as well!
@Kristen Maldonado, first, although I originally poo pooed the "Charmed" reboot, I can honestly say I AM enjoying it very much.
I watch the show by visiting the CW Network's Website, where I watch "Nancy Drew," as well as "Batwoman," but I digress.
I was pleasantly surprised to have discovered a few references between the original "Charmed" and the current reboot that I missed; then again, II was behind on the first season of the reboot, and only need to watch one or two episodes of the current second season to catch up.
I look forward to watching your videos with all the recaps of the episodes I have already watched.
Thank you for all you do.
Thanks, Robert! So glad you enjoy watching my recaps, I enjoy talking about the show with you guys!
I have to say another great show on the CW is Roswell New Mexico -- I totally recommend it.
@@kaymaldo thank you so much for the great reply.
Oh, it shows you love talking about "Charmed" and I look forward to your recaps on "Nancy Drew." I still remember watching the "Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew Mysteries" in the 70s, so when I saw this new version of Nancy Drew, I was definitely going to watch.
I especially love the fact that Pamela Sue Anderson (who starred in both the original "Dynasty," and the "Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew Mysteries," as Nancy Drew), was cast to portray Nancy Drew's mother in this reimagining.
Regarding "Roswell New Mexico" both you and one of my favorite people on the Planet, @Swanofdreamers LOVE this show, and both she and you highly recommend it. I want to watch the original "Roswell" series before I watch "Roswell New Mexico," so again, a lot of great shows to watch, and yet, so little time to do so.
Thanks again, for all you do. And Happy Holidays.
Wow that’s really cool. I didn’t know the OG Nancy Drew was playing her mom.
And happy holidays to you too!
