    Reminder about how screwed the Nets truly are: blowing it up and tanking makes no sense when the Houston Rockets own all your first round picks until 2028.

    • @FlyingV555
      @FlyingV555 Před rokem +76

      Clearly the Nets never learned from that trade in 2013, they tried to get a big 3 and failed, only to try again 7-8 years later with similar trades/signings and fail again.

    • @wishtheworldwasdifferent8235
      @wishtheworldwasdifferent8235 Před rokem +20

      They gave up 3 picks. The pick swaps will likely never happen. They are 2021, 2023, 2025 and 2027. Nets will likely be better than Houston in all those years because they will be a playoff team based on whatever players they get for KD, plus the 3 picks they gave up will get replaced with equal or better ones, likely 4 in total, so the comparison isn't accurate nor is them not having future draft picks.

    • @SuperSupersoda
      @SuperSupersoda Před rokem +14

      @@wishtheworldwasdifferent8235 Houston has a good, young core, and the city always does well attracting free agents. Houston has a bright future and will be back sooner than you think. The Nets, meanwhile? Remember, the Nets thought the same thing when they made that Celtics trade a decade ago, how did that work out? The moral should have been clear from that: never trade all your picks for anyone. It takes away one of the greatest sources of leverage the Nets have in dealing with KD and Kyrie. You guys want to sit out a year while we try to trade you? Fine, we'll suck and pocket a lottery pick, only that's not an option because that pick goes to Houston. The Nets can't physically blow it up and start over, that team building strategy is not on the table, and won't be on the table for the next six years. They're stuck, they're boxed in, and that's a terrible place for anyone to be.
      If you're a Nets fan, you might win games and have good seasons over the next 6 years, but without your picks, what pathway to a championship do you really have? None, that sucks for Net's fans.

    • @SuperSupersoda
      @SuperSupersoda Před rokem +3

      @@dommyyandfriendss Yeah, it's why people hate the Gobert trade so much. When you trade that many picks, the team you now have is your team for the foreseeable future, you have dealt away all your maneuverability. If Dlo-Ant-McDaniels-KAT-Gobert can't get it done, you've lost the ability to blow it up and rebuild and you've also lost the ability to maneuver out of that situation. You are not what you will be, and you're stuck until 2029.

      @TuNnL Před rokem +20

      That's right now, because nearly every NBA roster does NOT have the right pieces available for a trade. Andy does a decent job with this video, but a key part he left out is the CBA free agency rules.
      Rule #1: when you sign a player in free agency, you can NOT turn around and trade that same player for a minimum of 30 days and in many cases, WAY longer than that.
      For example, Bradley Beal made history this summer by becoming the first player in YEARS to have a "no trade clause" written into his contract. This means he will NEVER be able to be traded for the ENTIRE FIVE YEARS of his contract (unless he gives the Wizards permission).
      2. All NBA teams are specifically NOT allowed to have two (2) designated rookie max players who were acquired by trade on their roster. The Brooklyn Nets already have one (1) with Ben Simmons, which automatically prohibits about 15 designated rookie max players from being traded for Kevin Durant UNLESS the Nets trade or waive Simmons FIRST.
      Brooklyn wants a superstar, or maybe even two (2) for KD, which is a very limited pool to choose from, considering WHO is even ALLOWED to be traded for him right now. The question the Nets need to ask is: how badly do we want to keep Simmons?
      If the answer is: "pretty bad," then yes, it is MUCH harder to find a trade for KD then most casual fans even realize. 💁🏻‍♂️🏀🤷

    Also, I find it soft that KD got everything he wanted and enabled Kyrie to the way he is and wants out because Kyrie isn’t getting paid. KD hand picked the staff and players he wanted to play with and it wasn’t enough. He’s a spoiled baby.

    I feel like NBA fans overvalue picks. They saw what happened to the nets and see that as the rule and not an exception. Trading for a star will drastically help you win and giving up 3-5 picks is worth it, most will be late first but If you have good development/ an eye for talent, losing the late 1st round picks doesn't matter. There could be 1 or 2 that land in the lottery or something but that's the risk. Ultimately it all depends on how good the organization is at their job. If they draft well, they will win the trade; if they can't capitalize, it doesn't matter and they lost their star for nothing.

Look at the thunder with all the guys they selected over the past 2 years, they are starting lu dort an undrafted guy. The only Thing I’ll say is that with the players, Beasley was a net negative last year for the wolves and we were paying him almost 20M. Pat Bev as good as he was, was not worth 13M. Balmaro has potential but has shown none of it so far. Vando sucks to lose but gobert has a higher defensive impact obviously and I’m not sure if we would have the money to pay him with Kat and Ant on maxes (and definitely not with gobert on the team) and Kessler is a non lottery pick. Anything can happen. I think overall the wolves will be good. Hopefully a 3-5 seed in the west with potential to make a deep playoff run and as I see it. They got a bunch of expiring contracts to make the salaries work but no players of real significance. The nets want players of significance. Picks shouldnt be as important to the nets. As greedy as the nets want to be they have to understand they aren't gonna get the full value for Durant. He's 34 and only getting older, only getting more liable to injury. His loyalty is highly questionable. Teams aren't comfortable selling their future for that.

      Rondo would be better off coaching at this point, but if he wants to keep playing, he needs to be the third guy. The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a huge drop-off when they switched from Ricky Rubio to Rondo as their backup last year.

    Brooklyn should trade for young talents and draft picks to Orlando, Houston or Detroit and start rebuilding their team. You can’t ask for an all star on the other team to trade Kyrie, Durant or even Simmons. Everybody knows that it’s stressful to have these players on the team. Brooklyn just messed up having these players with Ego problems including Harden. They sacrifice their future and messed it up. It’s time to try to trade for young and still humble talents like bachero, Jalen Suggs and future picks. Cade Cunningham, Ivey, Duren and future picks. Jalen Green, Jalen Smith and future picks. It’s time to rebuild their team, it’s nonsense if you force to trade for an all star.

They need these picks to use as insurance.

  • @ivaneurope
    @ivaneurope Před rokem

    The thing that makes a potential KD trade even more complicated is Ben Simmons. According to the CBA a team cannot have more than 2 players with the designated rookie max extension via trades, meaning that if Sean Marks wants someone like Devin Booker, Bam Adebayo or Andrew Wiggins he has to move Simmons to a third team or package him with KD, but that will inflate the asking price even further as Simmons' trade value is the Mariana Trench.
    But it's not like that the Nets were doing earth shattering moves. They've traded a 2023 1st round pick for Royce O'Neale?! Granted, that pick will be either theirs or the one from Philadelphia, but there were/are similar players to O'Neale on the open market that could the Nets have signed without giving up assets. And their other acquisition was TJ Warren, who missed an entire season due to injury and who knows what his form is. And these two are IMO not good enough for the Nets to move them above the Bucks, Celtics, Heat and even Sixers.
    Speaking of Gobert, what will this mean for Donovan Mitchell? It appears that the Jazz have finally realize that they have to rebuild, but Mitchell is still on the roster. While he hasn't demanded a trade yet, pretty sure he'd want to be dealt as I'm not sure he wants to be in the ether during his prime. And it's not like he doesn't have suitors lined up for him - the Knicks have boatload of young players and picks they'd love to trade, while Miami will include Tyler Herro in any trade package for Mitchell.
    And lastly, while it was not included here, but IMO the market for DeAndre Ayton has gone. No team has offered him a contract yet, not even teams that were interested in him which were rebuilding teams as they've set their sights on tanking for Victor Wembanyama - a 7+ foot big man from France who is projected to be the No.1 pick in the 2023 draft. And having Ayton will undermine their effort. IMO Ayton will have to accept a lower offer from Phoenix otherwise he risks fading into obscurity.

But those teams won't be able to compete if they meet the Nets' asking price. It's a huge risk for any team getting him. That's the new market value, you have to give up a lot to get an established talent, and part of that is because there's only so much established talent in the NBA. Did the Wolves give up too much? I'm not that concerned about draft picks, but they gave away the Kessler guy who was supposed to be a really good defensive player, they gave up Vando who was great but has maybe some conditioning issues since he started to fade down the stretch of the season, and was consistently getting around 25 minutes despite being one of the top guys on the team in win shares. They also gave up Pat Bev, who was a leader of the team last year and also one of the top win share guys. I think we may have given up too much, but they obviously feel like they're adding more than enough back to the team through Gobert, plus maybe a couple of odd free agent deals, and then maybe you get some progressions from guys like Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels.
    It's too early to say whether they gave us too much, since that's going to dictated by the level of success that they enjoy from this trade. Brooklyn's trade for Harden is one where we have full hindsight now, and I'll be the first to admit that the Timberwolves look like they've made a similar trade, but they didn't give up anybody like Jarrett Allen.
