  • Hello and welcome to Trash to Track Episode 2
In this video i try and restore a dilapidated Tri-ang Hornby class 37, which is a staggering 48 years old. And find a possibly rare factory manufacturing error from 1973.
This simple rebuild does not work out as simple as i’d originally hoped, and again i make a few small errors along the way.
At one point when re-building the motor i refer to the commutator as the armature! So apologies for that!
I extend my thanks to The guys at Trains4u in helping source spares for this rebuild.
Thanks for watching and i welcome any feedback or comments.
Stay tuned for another episode coming soon.

Thank you for this video tutorial. I was given one of these in 1977 for my birthday, but haven't had a layout to run it on since 1983. This video gave me the confidence to restore it, but being stored in various lofts for nearly 40 years, removing all the corrosion took quite a while. I made a mistake reassembling it as the diagrams in Hornby's original manuals are hard to interpret, but again your video showed me what I'd done wrong. She is alive once again. :-)

I can only say, 'More, more, more!' I love rebuilding old locos and rolling stock and I'm always looking for fresh ideas. Nearly all of my stock is from the vintage years, although I do have some modern stock. I'll be looking at your other videos as I find them. Great job, and thanks a lot.

Thank you very much for your great video! I just bought a Triang class37 and a Lima Class 55 on eBay. I am used to rebuilding US manufactured locomotives so these will be a lot of fun. All the best and take care!

Great resto, I`ve reversed layouts and I now use the layout board I built my son for his bedroom many years ago, as thats all I have to work with at the mo, Good enough for the od bit of filming.

I get more pleasure refurbishing old models than sometimes buying new especially the price and moody build quality of late ,Merry Christmas Dan ,🤶🏻🎅🏼

Great job, and a great video. They deserved to be salvaged and you did them both justice....especially the green livery example. Superb work.

T-cut is totally abrasive, it's a polish. You could have saved money & used the brasso
There's a really simple way to prevent paint bleeding under your masking

I see there’s wires on the front of the motor, does this need to go back on as you haven’t put it back when rebuilt? Also does green cable if it’s on the left need to be in the left both front and back wheel sets? Thanks

Dan thanks for your video this is so interesting and very helpful indeed. I have just got back into the hobby and love tinkering about with my old childhood damaged models. As yet I do not have an airbrush but what masking tape do you use? Love the channel. Btw I've been using lighter fluid for cleaning armatures with good non abrasive results. G

Great video - now eyeing up my old 37 and 31 for doing something similar in the new year. Can I ask what font did you use for the headcodes?

I like these videos that are being made about model train restoration. But I don't like the music in the background. Its bloody awful Apart from that though I enjoy watching these videos about classic toy train restoration
