  • Arsenal have announced the signing of 22 year old Dutch defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax for a reported £45 million. Young, versatile, technically superb with great mental attributes, Timber resembles another smart acquisition for the Gunners but how will the former Ajax man fit into Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal? Will he replace William Saliba or Gabriell at centre back? Is he competition for Ben White at right back? Could he signal a tactical tweak? Find out in this video…

    I think one dynamic that Timber could help is we are playing KT on lb as more of a overlapping fullback like Ben white and then putting Timber on the inverted role that Zinny plays but on the right side, could be good to mix up the system

    • @kariswangugi1985
      @kariswangugi1985 Před 10 měsíci +2

      No, Tierney is not an Arteta type of defender, I forsee a central defence 3 of White Saliba and Kiwior when Timber is inverting and a central defence 3 of White, Saliba and Gabriel when Zinchenko is inverting.

    • @kazielbonn
      @kazielbonn Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@kariswangugi1985 To be fair if Tierney is not sold, what the OP said can be a tactical option. But yea, the much much more likely is our predictions. Kiwior for sure will usurp Zinny as first choice left back as he is by far a better defender. Both Timber and Kiwior have good passing range and accuracy, however TImber is a much better ball carrier.
      Both could start and take turns inverting. If both invert at the same time, that could give Rice the opportunity to be really high up the pitch to both press/cut off counters and be a goal threat. Having both start could really be a spectacle of flowing total football AND defensive solidity. Really exciting season ahead.

    @pung4759 Před 10 měsíci +4

    He might also be utilised as a inverted fullback like zinchenko so they can do both there in game in case the opponment marks out zinchenko. He could also potentially do that role and use kiwior on the left back for some more size potentially

    • @kybroome
      @kybroome Před 10 měsíci

      I think everyone including Dave knows that Saliba is first choice but Timber will be probably back up RB and RCB alongside Tomiyasu basically ending Holding and Cedrics time at Arsenal

    • @kazielbonn
      @kazielbonn Před 10 měsíci

      @@kybroome I foresee a starting back four of Kiwior-Gabriel-Saliba-Timber. White will be 1st backup to both Saliba and Timber, Tomiyasu 2nd for both. If Gabriel needs to be replaced for whatever reason, then Kiwior takes that position and Zinny takes over at left-back. White, Zinny and Tomiyasu are so versatile that they will get plenty of game time.
      You're right in that Holding and Cedric are not needed and likely will be sold. Tierney's a tough one though, although not versatile like the others, he can be a good tactical option for when Arteta wants a classic touchline full back to provide width, but I feel sorry for him not being a starter at a top team and maybe should be sold this month if the offer is good.

    You're right Squad tactical flexibility is probably where Arsenal fell short and where they should boost this season. In addition all 3 are robust players able to play a full season with high energy levels which also bodes well.
    I'm still sceptical about their ability to equal their goals scored stat again this coming season without a central forward striker option of 10-15 goals at least contribution potential. Sometimes a team just needs the odd x-factor player who plays above the stats in critical moments. I think Pep Guardiola appreciates this too.

      @@briansmith975 If Arsenal lose Saka or any of the forward players to injury, who comes in instead? So long as they have Martinelli, Jesus and Saka they have some decent goal-scorers but one injury will almost certainly reduce that. In addition, I think teams will probably adapt to them this season. Be interesting to see if Arsenal can become more balanced: Score when they need to and control the match when they need to.

    Our formation is 3-2-2-3 when attacking. One left back moves to middle and other stays CB. We saw that last season with zinny as inverted and White as RCB. With Timber we can do the same with otherside of the pitch making Arsenal more unpredictable. With RB moving to midfield you need your LB be more defensive and thats where Kiwior comes in. Kiwior Gabriel Saliba - Rice Timber - Havertz Odegaard - Martinelli Jesus Saka . 3-2-2-3

    Statman Dave. You are great, right now though my face is in the palm of my hand. No. He will be The Arsenal's right sided back in competition and rotation with Ben White. Ben White will default early in season as Timber gets acclimated and training will determine who takes the job by default once Arteta believes Timber is finding his way into the team tactically; remember Arteta's positional play takes longer to learn. It is the type of system new signings need more time, there is no coincidence that Arteta year 3 had his team starting to "bang" just like he said the project would when he took the job. In fact, White is more likely to backup Saliba than Timber; yet both are versatile enough to offer tactical adjustment and depth chart rotation in 4 comps. This is just not going to happen the way you say it is unless Arteta needs to respond to major injury with Saliba; Kiwior is starting to show promise 1 year later and the timing is not coincidence as teaching positional play queues is more complex than people think if they have not coached it. Timber is higher quality, yes, yet it will take time and it is not happening at CB...this deal was made because of injury concerns to BOTH Tomiyasu and Saliba; Arteta likes versatility yet there will be a default and I don't for one second think he is coming in to take Saliba's job. His versatility with champions league will see rotation into the squad for all players listed, yet the default will not be Timber at CB. Wait and see. Either way, a proper signing; very excited as an Arsenal fan with the business they are doing.

    • @ToddParker
      @ToddParker Před 10 měsíci

      @@brownistani no, he really didn't. Watch it again. The graphic defaults him to RCB where Saliba is next to White and late in the video he even suggests he is coming in for Saliba when he asks, "what do you think, get in to the comments....will Jurien Timber come in for William Saliba"? It is quite literally the major premise of his entire video. Short summary of what I am getting on about: Timber's ball progression stats are 99% elite. He is being brought in to become the right sided Zinchenko. Statman Dave is covering this signing as a Man United Fan as though this is the same as Lisandro Martinez and it is not. Arteta will not use him the way Ten Haag uses Martinez. Here is another fact: Jurien Timber in the Dutch Eredivisie was 12th percentile on heading. For Statman Dave to say he is "not bad in the air" and say "there is room for improvement" is hilarious. 12th percentile. He is not a premier league CB. Can he cover with the right tactical balance deployed, perhaps. The eye test and statistics with understanding of what Arteta is looking for says this video is wrong. Let's watch some football, we can wait and see. If I am wrong, come back to me and tell me I am wrong...I will be happy to agree with you then.

I imagine coaching will help but probably not playing as traditional CB. Can see us with 4 CBs at back like City at some point. And even change one out in game.
