      You are an excellent teacher... I am 65 yrs old, and took a lot of drafting in college, and actually was a draftsman for a number of years before I started my career in technology. the drafting background helped me with visualization my entire life. I recently bought a drafting table and started drawing a few woodworking projects using all my old drafting tools that I still have.... only to be reminded how incredibly inefficient use of time it is with drawing, erasing, re-drawing, etc. I found out about Sketchup from Woodworkers Guild of America, and purchased their DVD. I really did not find it to be as intuitive as it actually is. But when I watched your first 2 beginner videos, I was off to the races with confidence. You do an excellent job. You are a great communicator and you give excellent simple examples that we can try along our learning journey. Thank you for putting the time into this.

    Thank you so much for this, I was having all kinds of trouble starting out in Sketchup to get my storage-related construction ideas visualized better than on paper/2D, and you do an amazing job teaching the tools!

    I know this is a couple of years old, but hopefully you can answer this. Is Sketchup better or easier than Fusion 360? I seen your video on Fusion 360 then came across this video. I'm new to woodworking and to any sort of cad programming and trying to figure out which is the best program to use. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with these programs and look forward to more.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před rokem +1

      Really depends - Fusion 360 I would consider more of a "smart" modeling program, where SketchUp is a more flexible modeling program. SketchUp will likely be easier to learn, though Fusion 360 is also pretty simple to learn in my Opinion

      @Thesketchupessentials Thanks for the reply! I'm playing around with the free version of Sketchup, and so far, it seems pretty simple.

      @@Thesketchupessentials I recently posted a similar question to Roy. I'm using SketchUp Make, but it's unclear if the online version should be the way to go. I've only recently started learning.

    I wish they allow us to export blender compatible files for rendering and adding materials.
    Until then the free version isn't useful.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 3 lety +1

      You can add materials in the free version. Also, since this series is for Woodworkers, I'd say it's definitely useful in this application, but maybe not so much for rendering at the moment.

      @@Thesketchupessentials I just finished my first model after watching your tutorials.
      I really liked the simplicity of it for "Architectural modeling", but I was sad when I started to add materials to the design I can't even choose custom colors -without uploading an image with the color- and I am not an architect so it's not a wise decision to buy the pro version.
