    Very good dual use of the battery charge lead.

      @brockett - Thanks for the reply, I wouldn't run heated grips or spots that way but it works well for a satnav.

    I’ve found the digital compass on mine works pretty well. I’m just coming up to 8k miles on my ‘71 plate himmi. Btw I have same mirrors….by ‘second look’ I think you mean ‘double take’.

      @RichardWilliams-kf5vw - Thanks for the comment and the correction on the mirror name. Do you have to recalibrate your compass often?

      @@TheRantyRider I did it once when I first got it and it’s been okay since.
      Don’t get me wrong…it’s not perfect. It usually takes a couple of miles to sort itself out, and even then it sometimes decides to do its own thing. That’s why I call my bike Rupert, which is the nickname for young British army officers, who have the same reputation for accurate navigation 😊

    6:39 err on the subject of the led headlight bulb why can't you use the modern ones which have a 1:1 size and the led chips are positioned exactly how and where the filaments on H4 lamps are, so the light spread should be pretty much the same but brighter

    • @TheRantyRider
      @TheRantyRider  Před 2 měsíci

      @kevindarkstar - Thanks for the comment, the brightness isn't the only issue. As you can see from the comparison there is no sideways spread or infill between the spot on the road and the headlights, the spots correct this. The effect is most noticable when slow speed cornering when there is no illumination to the sides.

    13:16 not a fan of these very thin cooking foil boxes, look like they will bend and dent at the slightest impact and no lining even Cfmoto on the MT 800 have similar boxes but the whole inside is lined with a kind of velour

    • @TheRantyRider
      @TheRantyRider  Před 2 měsíci

      @kevindarkstar - Thanks for the comment, the boxes [well, the right-hand one] have so far survived one drop on the drive and two trail riding with no ill effects so they seem tough enough so far. The bike is built for the Indian market so is basic and possibly to a price. If I need to protect anything in the boxes then I'll use a bag, I keep a couple of tote bags in them for when I get my shopping.

    Does the front brake light switch have to have that rubber boot on it? Seems to me that rubber goes stiff in lower temperatures.

    • @TheRantyRider
      @TheRantyRider  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @noneyourb172 - Thanks for the question, as I understand it the switch is not terribly IP rated so the boot is there for protection, and secured with thin copper wire. An Omron switch is the same physical size and can be used though, but this is according to the internet.

    What is your opinion on the Himalayan 452? I'm thinking about getting it as my first bike, greetings from Brasil!

    • @TheRantyRider
      @TheRantyRider  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @Legogazer - Thanks for the comment on the film and hello to Brasil, I will let Google tanslate this into Portugese as well in case English isn't your first language. I have only looked at the 452 and not yet ridden it. I was at the launch at my local dealer and spoke to some of the designers.
      The 452 looks very much like the next generation of the 411 in design, but is has a CANBUS system and TFT multi-mode screen. The height feels the same but the weight has moved up as the air filter is now above the engine and the tank is larger and wider.
      Performance should be 20-30 mph / 30-45 kph faster both top speed and cruising speed. There are options for tubless wheels as well as tubed and full luggage. If I were to get one I wouldn't swap my 411 for it, I would trade in my Tracer 9 as they are a similar level of technology.
      @Legogazer - Obrigado pelo comentário sobre o filme e olá ao Brasil, vou deixar o Google traduzir isso para o português também caso o inglês não seja sua primeira língua. Eu apenas olhei para o 452 e ainda não o montei. Estive no lançamento no meu revendedor local e conversei com alguns designers.
      O 452 se parece muito com a próxima geração do 411 em design, mas possui um sistema CANBUS e uma tela TFT multimodo. A altura parece a mesma, mas o peso aumentou, pois o filtro de ar está agora acima do motor e o tanque é maior e mais largo.
      O desempenho deve ser 20-30 mph/30-45 km/h mais rápido, tanto na velocidade máxima quanto na velocidade de cruzeiro. Existem opções de rodas sem câmara, bem como bagagem com câmara e completa. Se eu conseguisse um, não trocaria meu 411 por ele, trocaria meu Tracer 9, pois eles têm um nível de tecnologia semelhante.

      I find the larger tank makes it move away a lot from the H411, it makes it look way larger.
      It's very nice of you to include the translation, I appreciate it! :)

    • @TheRantyRider
      @TheRantyRider  Před 3 měsíci

      @Legogazer - You're welcome although it was Google that did the translation, not me!
      I have a link to the English language specification sheet that lists the fuel tank as 17 L rather than the 14 L of the 411. The tank is wider than the 411 and sits higher because of the larger engine and air box position. www.royalenfield.com/content/dam/open-pdf/royal-enfield-himalayan-technical-specifications-uk.pdf
      A lot depends on what you want to use the bike for, I have done about 350 miles / 500 km in a day on major roads as well as off-road riding such as the "Scramalayan" days I lead czcams.com/video/MEDj9gTx4Yw/video.html
      I have heard of two new bikes being based on the 452 model that will be launched in the UK, and possibly worldwide, in the next few months, one will no doubt be a Scram replacement and the other may be a road-biased model so one of these may be better suited to you depending on the type of riding you do.
      @Legogazer - De nada, embora tenha sido o Google quem fez a tradução, não eu!
      Eu tenho um link para a folha de especificações em inglês que lista o tanque de combustível como 17 L em vez de 14 L do 411. O tanque é mais largo que o 411 e fica mais alto devido à posição maior do motor e da caixa de ar. www.royalenfield.com/content/dam/open-pdf/royal-enfield-himalayan-technical-specifications-uk.pdf
      Depende muito de para que você deseja usar a bicicleta, fiz cerca de 350 milhas / 500 km por dia em estradas principais, bem como passeios off-road, como os dias "Scramalayan" que lidero youtu. ser/MEDj9gTx4Yw
      Ouvi falar de duas novas motos baseadas no modelo 452 que serão lançadas no Reino Unido, e possivelmente em todo o mundo, nos próximos meses, uma será sem dúvida uma substituição do Scram e a outra pode ser um modelo voltado para a estrada, então um deles pode ser mais adequado para você, dependendo do tipo de pilotagem que você pratica.

      @@Legogazer Hello again. I managed to get a 90 minute ride on the 452 engined Himalayan when mine was in for the 12 000 mile service. Where to start? It felt like the same seat height as the 411 and was equipped with 30 mm risers so like mine felt like I was sitting in it rather than on it. Although the engine is more powerful I found it needed over 3 000 and preferably over 4 000 RPM to pull cleanly upon accleration. The handling is good, I could push it around bends as easily as the 411 but the rear shock felt more 'road' than 'trail' as it seemed too hard and under-damped.
      It's harder to put on the centre stand but not by much, the sidestand allows the bike to lean further over which is useful. I found that the 5000-6000 RPM speed was quite vibrational but it is possible to ride around this at speedsabove 60 MPH. I think that either of the bikes will suit a speed of up to 60 MPH, longer distances may push you towards a 450, rougher roads and under 200 miles per day* a 411.
      The 450 looks larger as you say, it also has a lot of 'extras' that I don't need for my riding but a lot of modern riders prefer. If you choose the 411 or the 450 I'm sure you will have agreat time on the bike.
      * I recently led a 4 day 650 mile ride, the highlights of wheich are here: czcams.com/video/Rd5SSAD5_qo/video.html

      @@Legogazer @Legogazer Olá novamente. Consegui fazer um passeio de 90 minutos no Himalaia com motor 452 quando o meu estava pronto para o serviço de 12.000 milhas. Onde começar? Parecia ter a mesma altura de assento do 411 e estava equipado com tirantes de 30 mm, então, como o meu, parecia que eu estava sentado nele, e não nele. Embora o motor seja mais potente, descobri que ele precisava de mais de 3.000 e, de preferência, mais de 4.000 RPM para funcionar corretamente na aceleração. O manuseio é bom, eu poderia empurrá-lo nas curvas tão facilmente quanto o 411, mas o amortecedor traseiro parecia mais 'estrada' do que 'trilha', pois parecia muito duro e pouco amortecido.
      É mais difícil de colocar no cavalete central, mas não muito, o cavalete lateral permite que a bicicleta se incline ainda mais, o que é útil. Descobri que a velocidade de 5.000 a 6.000 RPM era bastante vibracional, mas é possível contornar isso em velocidades acima de 60 MPH. Acho que qualquer uma das bicicletas será adequada para velocidades de até 60 MPH, distâncias mais longas podem levá-lo a 450, estradas mais acidentadas e menos de 200 milhas por dia * a 411.
      O 450 parece maior, como você disse, também tem muitos 'extras' que não preciso para andar, mas muitos pilotos modernos preferem. Se você escolher a 411 ou a 450 tenho certeza que vai se divertir muito na moto.
      * Recentemente liderei um passeio de 4 dias e 650 milhas, cujos destaques estão aqui: czcams.com/video/Rd5SSAD5_qo/video.html

      @kevindarkstar - Thanks for the comment, the box of goodies is part of the purchase price so you probably couldn't negotiate down much more than a tenner. Some dealers have a placcy document folder with their name on that comes with a bike, I don't think you could negotiate much off the bike price if you didn't want to take it.
      I don't know what the T-shirts cost to have printed by the dealer but they are a nice touch.
