    Great video But....This dude may be 5'6" but theres no way he has a 31" inseam. Looks more like a 29" or less. I have a 30" inseam, 5'9" and I stand flat footed even with a 1" taller aftermarket seat installed.

    This review is spot on. Love mine, but it's time to move on as well. She's happiest at 40mph (65 kph) and very fun on the backroads. Hills at speed are tough, especially with luggage. Very fun on dirt roads and backroads but unfortunately here in the US we have mostly large highways to get anywhere nice. Great job!

      @@ogonzilla Still an amazing engine with a fine heritage. Euro 5 compliant tune which probably indicates how good it's always been. Gorgeous V-twin sound track. The Vstrom is a really comfortable bike with potential for comfy two-up touring over many miles. I nearly bought the 650 a couple of years ago. Looked great in yellow with factory fitted colour-matched panniers. If you want more grunt, the 1000cc is good but in all honesty too much performance for real world use.

      @@MotorcyclistDiaries Totally disagree-with the right tyre pressures and suspension set up to suit your weight, they are enormously capable on twisty mountain roads here in Spain and the Pyranees.
      A lot of owners buy these bikes and never use them for what they were built for, or think they will ride off rosd but never do.

Happened to book a lake blue Himalayan few days back and waiting eagerly for its arrival (watched this video later and had a feel of how the lake blue looks in flesh). It will replace my 2016 model carburetted 1st gen Himalayan. The comfort offered is unbeatable. Also plan to add a PoweRage exhaust just for the sake of bassy note. The Himalayan is my go to bike for city/short distance/trail rides and I have a V Strom 650 for longer haul. One suggestion for your hike videos is please keep the music subdued and let the silence fill in. Kind of Kraig Adams-y. Keep the videos coming! Lots of love from India.

    I always find it interesting that so many purchase a himmy when they should have spent two or three times the money and got what they wanted. It’s not a BMW for Pete’s sake. I love mine. Have a complete set of Wolfman bags for it. My wife has one also. We love riding and camping backroads wherever we go. We got ours after spending time in Nepal. It’s the go to bike over there. The Nepali people covet them. Not a bad review but I still say you can’t buy a better bike for the money.

    • @Paul_Grace
      @Paul_Grace Před 2 lety +4

      Actually you don't need to spend that much more. 1500 pounds extra buys a cb500x. You willsave that on reduced service costs at 8000 miles

    • @user-ww5xh7fh3j
      @user-ww5xh7fh3j Před 2 lety +15

      @@Paul_Grace sure. Then you need to spend an extra $2500.00 getting rid of the cast wheels etc. As far as maintenance costs go trying to work on one would be a nightmare unless you’re a bike mechanic. I can tear down a thumper in someone’s garage on my own but I could never do that with the Honda. Like I said. It’s the bike of choice not only in India but also in Nepal. It’s a no frills, cheap, easy to maintain workhorse that will take you just about anywhere. The Honda is an okay adventure bike that I wouldn’t want to break down with to far from home. Keep up basic maintenance on a Himalayan and it’ll take you farther than Itchy Boots rode lol.

    • @Paul_Grace
      @Paul_Grace Před 2 lety +2

      @@user-ww5xh7fh3j Why do you need to get rid of the cast wheels? Unless you plan racing in an enduro the cast wheels are a much better option with their tubeless tyres. The Himalayan is popular in India due to the price and import duties on foreign motorcycles. The Honda doesn't break down and if it did there are plenty of people comfortable with fixing it and easy access to parts. I'm glad your happy with your Enfield, for me it was a bad purchase.

    • @user-ww5xh7fh3j
      @user-ww5xh7fh3j Před 2 lety +7

      @@Paul_Grace sorry it was a bad purchase for you. The fact is the Himalayan has been popular in India and Nepal for years because it’s cheap, easy to repair and because of that lives forever lol. It’s a no frills bike that fits a need. That’s all. Check out the Trans- Himalayan tour. It’s a great motorbike that does what it’s supposed to without costing a bundle. And now it’s becoming popular here among individuals like myself because it’s cheap, easy to fix and dependable really with routine maintenance. I know it’s clunky. I think that you bought one expecting it to be something it’s not. We all do that. Happy riding with whatever you find yourself on. Cheers.

    Excellent review. These Indian bikes are very popular in the UK as are the RE 650 twins.
    Opinion here is that they do need to have a bit more power as our highways are fast and the Himalayan can be at mercy to fast traffic. I ride a CBF1000 Honda that is 14 years old (I bought it new) and it is perfect for our roads but is not an off road/trail bike.
    The Himalayan would be a great choice for me, I am over 70 years old and and getting a bit creaky, as it is lighter and more comfortable but does need more power for our roads but they have sold very well so many are satisfied.

    Sold my 18 Himalayan after six months of stalling, loose headbearings, dangerous abs interventions that could cost someone their life in an actual accident, sheared through throttle cable and 5mph less top speed come winter time. I bought a cb300r which for the same price second hand, felt insanely fast compared to the himmi, I scrambled it and do the same green lanes I once did on the himmi. I never do hard offroading, the himmi is sold on a dream and people buy into that marketing with ease overlooking more reliable, capable bikes for that old world charm of "easy maintenance" and mad Max looks just because people have really had enough of plastic covered bikes weighed down by electronica but after ownership it is one of the worst modern non Chinese bikes money can buy. I would have sold it Just for the brakes alone which on a normal bike will save your life, you don't actually know whether you will make it with a himmi

    Just rode 6100 mi (~9800 km) on my 2020, with a booster plug - recommended! - Mine was just fine at 5000-6000 rpms for hours on end. No odd rattles.
    With a head wind, yes, the power wasn't there but if I'd not been pushing it I wouldn't have cared. This bike is a joy to ride.
    I'm 5'7" (~171cm) and love it's seat height. And, yes, it's a heavy bike to pick up (don't drop it!) but not unreasonable. And, that it is so damn easy to work on, makes that an easy trade off.

    When I picked up my bike at the dealership here in Ecuador, the salesman adjusted the bolt for the left mirror bracket for proper alignment for me. When he went to tighten it, the entire bracket snapped clean in half... I second your point about weak materials being used in this bike, it is a little scary. False neutral between 4th and 5th during 500km warm up period and squeaky breaks are still an issue, as well for 2022.

    Good to see you back! I am curious to see what the next bike will be... For myself for next year, I was thinking about a Moto Guzzi V85 tt, but now I am leaning more towards a Honda Transalp, or a Dominator because Honda parts would be much easier to find when travelling, compared to Moto Guzzi parts. I will try to find a bike that is simple to maintain. BMW's, Triumph's and Ducati's etc. are nice but have complicated electronic aids, and very expensive... Cheers, Rob.

    Your presentation is wonderful , ;coz U R a wonderful man . Very clear .
    Not all bikes are made for all ,
    This is on a very low budget , economical , parts are cheap , eazy to maintain , what else you can ask for , for the cost you pay.
    You can never COMPARE this with any other bike , like an apple to an apple .
    On the whole this is a lovely little bike made for Indian Limitations .
    what I would do first thing on my RE Himalayan is :
    1. Change to Tubeless Japanese Tyres.
    2. Change to Japanese chain n sprockets kit.
    3. Change to 7 inch radial LED headlights n LED indicators.
    4. Hit the road , with the Normal panniers Boxes .
    5. Request ( you might have already checked ) check " Itchy Boots Royal Enfield Himalayan " full episodes.
    6. Have a grt day , Brother . Lots of love from 🤗🤗🤗🤗.....South India .

    A year later and still a great reference review. We can just step back a bit or 'squint our eyes' to overlook the nit picky things and just focus on whether certain things are reasonably easy to remedy, like the option to increase a little top end etc. I had a Bullet in India, if you break something and it's not available in the village, someone will forge or hammer out a reasonable substitute to get you by lol. That's what a Royal Enfield is.

I agree with your points. Completely. The top speed is a little low, albeit in most indian roads you can barely speed past 100 but the roads are improving and when it does I'll move on to something a bit faster. Most highways are still single road without divider. In ch,mp 4 highways are getting converted to 4 lane with barrier but it's gonna take atleast 4-5 years. Same with jh. North east, good roads ends at Shillong that to only the major route from WB-assam-shillong. Every other national highway is trashed. The ones that have good roads are expressways. You ride your interceptor in those roads. I know in another 5 years most highways willl be upgraded the chennai-vijaywada stretch will extend to Rambha odisa but it's not there yet. The single lane higways even from mlore-goa is riddled with bad pothole filled stretches. I'd prefer it was a lot lighter but overall it's a well balanced little mule. I also have the 650 Int, a fantastic bike, and a TU250x. I can't justify having 3 bikes but they're very different from one another. If I had to choose one it might be the TU.. cheaper to insure, very economical, straight fwd reliable transportation, and a lot lighter. But I can't decide, so I've kept all 3.
