  • When the Cavaliers tied the Cadets for the 2000 Drum Corps International World Championship, it was the third time in five years and the second year in a row that there was a tie for the number one position.
The 2000 season was the first year DCI corps were allowed to use brass instruments pitched in any key, and it was rather interesting to see the Cavaliers do so well that year, as the corps, playing on the more traditional G bugles, finished alongside the Cadets and in front of the Blue Devils, the first two corps to make a switch to B-flat horns.

I saw this show live on Finals night. Cavies were easily the loudest, most powerful corps of the night. This would be the last time I heard a top corps on G bugles. God, how I miss that sound.

cavalier9915 I wasn't there as it was a little before my time (marched BK soon after they made the switch), but I think this was the best sounding 3 valve G Bugle line ever put together. I think the switch actually hurt their overall effect because their rich tone quality just lost volume on the Bb horns. That combined with the fact that the corps had built up some major momentum from the '99 show (Cavs most underrated show IMO), it would have been interesting to see what Saucedo would have done with the Gs in '01 and so on.

The Cavies were just showing off from 2000 to 2004. It was seriously impressive what they did on a field.

1:27 = best mustache-shaped drill of the year, hands down.

This was the first year that guard scores were included in the overall score for placement, and that was what put the Cavies over the top. Sitting on the 50 that night, the Cadets had a better run in Finals, but both corps victory runs were better than their Finals performances.

I wasn't there for 2000, but saw four corners show the following year I believe. I remember everyone was just shocked at the performance and got chills from it. Can't imagine sitting at finals night seeing Niagara Falls show, wow. Just wow.

I usually don't give much props to the color guard with DCI because I focus on the sound+drill synergy, but... the guard here completely enhances the score and intensity of the show. It's absolute perfection.

I was there all week and both Cavies and Cadets pulled out their best that last night. The crowd wasn’t so hot on a tie but did agree they (and the Blue Devils” left it all out there. Great year and great shows.

Have to credit Drew Shanefield, Brass Caption Head - he was also my soprano tech and later caption head when I marched Cadets. He went on to do great things with Cavies. And I definitely miss that G bugle sound as well.

My band director in high school marched in this show. He said multiple people broke their ankles and legs from the run at 1:11.

Can we get back to actual drill please……i miss it so much, its so much dancing going on instead of marching and mesmerizing formations. DCI has lost its flare, I thought this was suppose to be “MARCHING Music’s Major League”
