I feel personally attacked.
I lost my shit when he said that...feels like every DCS forum..."I could fly, I play DCS" HAHA
making sense wasn't a requirement in the 80s, just good action shots and a lot of explosions
you are funny 😆
yeah, like Micheal Bay if he didn't suck
@@dudejo Well unlike Micheal Bay, these movies actually understood how to film stuff. Bay films would likely be quite entertaining if the camera was placed further than 5 feet from the action and wasn't constantly shaking all over the place!

As a child of the 80s, this is my favorite movie ever. I laughed continuously throughout this commentary! Great work, Mover!
That Cessna scene, even by today's standards, was amazing cinematography
Art Scholl did that flight. Hell of a stunt pilot back in the day.
Yeah it really looked like he was about to crash lol

This was my dad favorite move! His English wasn’t very good so he called it “the dad and the son”. I think I’ve seen this film a hundred times! So nice to hear from a pro that it’s actually pretty accurate and well done 👍

Iron Eagle makes my aviation meat tingle
This movie heavily influenced me as a child even more than top gun did.
The queen One mission song was amazing and cued perfectly

"You are dead. Have a nice day."
In the 80s you didn’t have to choose between being a fighter pilot and having mullet hair.
I was in aviation ordnance in the Marines when this came out....seeing the weapons constantly changing used to crack me up. Great video!
"Your flaps are down!!!" Priceless! And yes, 80s WERE awesome.
I am so glad you are treating this documentary with the respect it deserves. Sure it's a little dated, phases change, VDUs and pilot information has gone backwards theses days, they don't make them like they used to, amirite! But you are seamless with your understanding and explanation.
“Pocket full of quarters for the sim.” LOL. You’ve made my day today!
"inflight re-arming"
I'm dying here
What I've learned:
1) Don't be a douche.
2) Your flaps are down! You'll fly faster with them up.
3) The 80's were awesome.
4) The Colonel salutes Major Chappy SInclair, not the other way around.
5) Iron Eagle is actually better when edited down to 18 minutes by Mover.
6) reserve forces should wear dunce caps.
Chappie Sinclair was a Bird Colonel.
5.5) All the awesome flying footage is wasted on a less than optimal story.
7) "Ok for takeoff" seems legit
Someone has to make a plaque with these.
“He’s Doug Masters, he’s got a cassette player” should’ve been the tag line to this movie. Loving the commentary!
Growing up as a teenager in the 80s was awesome. Movies like Iron Eagle were popular because our military had been rebuilt after a period of neglect. The awesome aerial footage was what helped the success of this movie. Much like Top Gun's aerial footage made up for the plot as well.
Yup. After Vietnam our military really slid downhill. Enter President Reagan that started pouring billions into defense spending (that bankrupted the Soviets) to revamp our military. Fighter pilots were mythical beings with godlike powers to grade school boys like me. Then again, anyone wearing a uniform were heroes to us as I remember woodland camouflage pants were popular with us boys. I remember my 'Top Gun' inspired imitation leather flight jacket with patches I begged my mom to buy at Wal-Mart.
"You're in an airplane, fly direct!"
He couldn't, due to the rules of the race: he was restricted to *50 ft AGL*, which helps to explain the flaps, and also explains the aerobatics when flying over the mountains (only way to keep from exceeding 50 ft vertical separation from the terrain). Notcher may have broken the rules, but Doug sure wasn't going to.
He's coming up on Devi's Face!
@@alexbody3502 smokes pouring out of his manifold
@@alexbody3502 of course it was devils face.
I was thought 50’ AGL was too low for what Art Scholl flew the plane at. I’d say closer to 75-100 agl. ART Scholl was one of the best stunt pilots Hollywood ever saw. Perhaps probably one of the best stunt pilots in aviation. Unfortunately he would lose his life a few months later shooting TOP GUN.
New favorite line “Your flaps are down! You’ll go faster with them up.”
When he said stupid reservist I looked at him exactly when he looked at me😂😂😂
I loved this film as a kid. Then I started scouring my elementary school library for any books on military aircraft, got into flight sims... and quickly realised all the problems with this film. The stand-ins for the MiGs, the weirdness going on with the cockpit instruments and controls... Still enjoyed it.
The third civil plane was a Piper Tomahawk. A little 2 seater that was used for training back in the day.
"That's why we have Ronnie Raygun" loved that line...🤣
Your commentary is so gold. Always has me in tears! Keep up the GREAT channel Mover! Love having laughs in this time of global despair! Cant wait to grab a few of your books!
I liked for the wearing a cover indoors "Stupid reservist"
so glad i found your channel..love your content ..sense of humor .and just all the reality checks for all these films i grew up watching ....they also inspired me to want to be a military pilot ...but alas it did not happen i am Canadian so my choices were limited anyway...heck at the time Iron Eagle was in theatres ..Canada was still flying the CF-101's and the CF- 104 's ..(with a few F-5's in the mix) .the first of the F-18's had only just recently come into service in 1983 ..THE 101'S , 104'S and most of the Tigers were retired in 1987 ....the Hornet is the only fighter in town in the Canadian Air Force ....
The Cessna 150 aerobatics are good... the FAMOUS Art Scholl did the stunts.. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Scholl
Art Scholl was also killed doing the flat spin in Top Gun.
I met him a couple of times when I was a kid at Flabob airport and now closed Rialto airport. He was a helluva pilot and nice guy.
@@Daywalker_27 was it the flat spin? They mention him in a documentary for top gun that he wanted to stay out to do a few more runs on something, can't remember what it was though... 😔
I saw that Aerobat at Clover Field in Houston like in 1995, a flight school bought it. It was used in the movie.
For a long time, I was convinced that sequence was done with RC planes. The flying is insane.
If you think about it, this movie could be renamed “Grand Theft Viper” and you gotta admit that sounds way cooler.
So who is the better aircraft thief? This kid stealing a F-16 from the U.S. Or Clint Eastwood stealing Fire Fox from the Soviets?
@@orlock20 neither.. D.A.R.Y.L. stealing an SR-71 ... :-)
@@TAnders877 stealing the blackbird and put a gum in the security camera lenses behind the ejection seat, gold!
This movie is infallible. I binged all 4 iron eagle movies and they're all amazing. My two favorite things are
1: The snappy 80's "my father is going to be executed but let's have fun while we stop it" montage in this movie and
2: Sonny Chiba's character doing a kamakaze attack to help stop the nazi-run Peruvian drug operation.
Yes, Iron Eagle 3 has ww2 aircraft from multiple countries, manned by stereotypes from those countries, armed with modern armaments, fighting in 90's South America against a Nazi running a drug operation. It's absolutely amazing.
Yyyyyes! I was a 6-year-old aviation nerd in the making when I first saw Iron Eagle. Even then, I remember thinking more than a few times "no friggin' way is that possible/accurate!" Aaaand yet it's still the biggest reason the F-16 is my all-time favorite because, well, it's over an hour of the most beautiful fighter around on film. The F-16 was the real star of the movie!
Thanks for the upload' Mover! Can't wait to watch you bust this movie's chops!
Man this is hilarious. I remember watching the movie back in the day and thinking it was sooo cool. lol. I loved "I never made it to level 6!" Too funny.
This was the best commentary so far! As a private pilot and former Air Force enlisted, I was laughing LMAO at your commentary!
As a jet fighter crazed teenager when this movie was released, it was amazing!
Man, I remember when this film when I was a kid. All the older boys were always talking about it like it was the coolest thing.
Memories.
Ok mover, you're walking on sacred ground here, this is a favorite movie of my childhood. Be careful. I'm watching you👀
I love your surprise as real HUD imagery appears! But the flying the Cessna - having exhibited awesome flying skills all the way through the aeros in close proximity to the ground, the idea that the guy can't then just put it down straight ahead as he takes the barrier is probably the most unbelievable part of the film. He's straight and level and only doing about 45kts for heaven's sake!
Art Scholl was at the controls of the Cessna during the race sequence. Even by today’s standards that scene was just great.
Bad ass pilot!!!!
Respect to Mr. Scholl !
The man was a master. The flying in that scene was awesome.
As ridiculous as that scene was, that man did a masterful job.
@@ablethreefourbravo Understatement of the century.
C.W. That was awesome, keep up the great content.
On a more serious note, I had about 600 hours in FSX/P3D and XP11 before I started flying lessons, and the time did help, but when you actually step foot in a real aircraft and are handed that responsibility with real consequences its an entirely different feeling, so the DCS comments you made really made me laugh at how true it is.
Yessss! Thank you! Thank you for splitting this up and giving this classic the attention it deserves. Giving me goosebumps. All the times I’ve watched it and wondered what a REAL fighter pilot would say. Can’t wait for part two!
Will you answer the age old question, will missiles really fire while the jet is on the ground???? I’m ready.
I’ve been waiting for you to do iron eagle
Maybe you should do flight of the intruder
Flying the B iron hand
Tyrion Lannister the phantom shitter is real. Every deployment on every carrier I’ve been on had one.
Flight of the Intruder: I read the book, first. I thought it was awesome. Then I saw the movie and almost couldn't bear to watch it all, it was so bad. The casting was wrong and the story mostly trashed. Or so I thought. The image that haunts me the most was Willem Dafoe sitting in the pilot's seat of an A-6 he just crashed in. In the book, it was a 'Sandy' pilot in an A-1 Skyraider...more believable. Mover, ruin this movie, please! :)
Fuck YES loved flight of the intruder
Still remember going to see Iron Eagle 2 at the theaters. We loved it. Rest in Heaven my wife.

Mover, from an old Rhino & "ADF guy, there were Papas, then Limas then Papas in the opening of the flick. You are correct in your observation! I flew the "80s" jet and never saw avionics like that. That was my favorite movie as a kid. I must have watched it a thousand times.( I wanted to be a fighter pilot). Thank you for reviewing this movie. I know it is a far cry from reality, but it's from my childhood.
Same, plot is far fetched but easy to follow & be entertained. I used to have the Iron Eagle poster on my wall & soundtrack on cassette I'd play in my car....road of the gypsy!
The f-16 was a very iconic jet, it was so modern for its time... I love this jet
True. The jet incarnation of the P-51 Mustang.

I remember that in my childhood I saw the film "Into the sun". And there were very similar shootings ... But I hear about this for the first time.
probably the same footage, looks a lot like it, i remember the movie michael pare, anthony michael hall
Into The Sun used stock footage from Iron Eagle I & II. I think a lot of lower budget movies did the same.
Thank you for not ruining this movie, one of my favorite! Great movie! Complete with an 80’s “happy ending!”
Movie's called Iron Eagle, but he steals a Falcon ...
I remember saying this when I first saw this movie :-D
Like most movies the title is hidden in the story plot. You have to watch it.
Weren't the "mk 82's" actually Mavericks?
It was a reference to the Bald Eagle more so than the aircraft .
Well the forth movie has a par of F-15 Eagles on the back of the DVD box, despite not actually spearing in the movie...
In fact even the scenes with F-16s are just reused shots from the first two films!
"Im Doug Masters and I've got a tape player!" I spit my damn drink out.
I still wonder why you'd call a film "Iron Eagle" and then have them fly Falcons?!
Vipers!!! ;)
Matthaus Rex falcons? 🤔 you mean Viper?
Iron Falcon sounds more appropriate LOL
Yep. I wondered about too at the time of the movie, but Hollywood rarely gets anything right.
I get why people want to call them Vipers... the pilots call them that (it was suppose to be the original name) and kept calling them that because they didn't like the official name given to the F-16. That official name is Fighting Falcon. So if you want to tell somebody you would prefer to call it a Viper (and I'm fine with that it sounds cooler if you ask me).. take it as that.. a preference. You shouldn't call them wrong however because it was officially called the Falcon by the military brass. Anyways regarding the name of the movie... I agree it's dumb to call it Iron Eagle and then use Falcons / Vipers. lol.
A friend of mine did the Aerial Flying photography along with Art Scholl, the Cessna 152 Stunt Pilot. Art died during the filming of Top Gun when his Pitts S-2 camera plane failed to recover from a spin and plunged into the Pacific Ocean.
I remember even as a child, I laughed at the weapons loadout changing from camera angle to camera angle within the same scene.

I was in 6th grade when this came out.
