    I'm completely in awe of your process! I love your demos and paintings and was wondering if you painted this one, "Enjoying the summer sun", from a photograph. Do you typically work from life or photos? I can't tell because your works are so full of light! I hope you will post an answer. Thank you. :)

      +Roxanne Naydan Thank you, Roxanne! I did this painting from a photo I took in the park. All my figure paintings were done from photos. But! I paint a lot from life. Now and again I ask my husband to pose for me. I never post those studies. I use them them only to see how human skin and clothes look in different lighting conditions. And this knowledge is crucial because painting from a photo I basically take only the light and shadow pattern. Painting from a photograph I often change the values (making shadows lighter) and sometimes the colors too in order to make the painting more interesting. I fill my shadows with color even when I cant see it in the photograph I am painting from... I just know it has to be there. I can paint a figure from a black and white photo making up all the colors as I know how different colors and skin tone look in light and in shadow. So, yes, painting from life is the best thing you can do to make your paintings done from photographs look natural and alive..

      Thank you for your generous comment about working from life and then applying your knowledge to the work front photos. You have a wonderful color sense and imagination. Thanks again for your help! I would like to take a workshop with you. I will check to see if you have any DVDs for sale. Have a great day and all the best to you and your family.

      +Roxanne Naydan Thank you Roxanne. Unfortunately I dont have any workshop scheduled yet, except two demonstrations that I will be doing in late July at the Art In The Open - Ireland's Plein Air Painting Festival... I haven't done tutorials too.. I am thinking of doing one, but I have to improve my English first. I am working on it :) Have a wonderful day too!

    I like it very very much but how to you not smutch colors when you paint wet on wet with oil paint? Do you use a lot of additive to let the paint dry very fast or is it because you have a very light touch.?

    • @LenaRivo
      @LenaRivo  Před 7 lety

      Johnny Vandenberg thank you. Yes, how heavily you touch the canvas makes a difference. I start by applying paint thinly, like in the "dry brush" technique and leave the lightest areas for the final stages. When I paint them I use more paint and apply it thickly, but I do not press the brush against the canvas, making just light strokes.

    Did you underpaint or prime your paper before painting?

    • @LenaRivo
      @LenaRivo  Před 6 lety

      No, I do not prime my paper, but this particular painting was done in oil on canvas.
