    Totally fun to watch, and totally worthwhile for inspiration. I especially like how you left the sunlit areas as canvas for a long time, while you were painting in the other brightly lit areas, pitting sunlight against sunlight until it was all just right.

    Hello, love your work! Would you mind sharing the brushes you use for both gouache and acrylic painting please?

    • @LenaRivo
      @LenaRivo  Před 5 lety

      Hi, thank you! I use acrylic brushes with both acrylics and gouache. Mostly flats, but I use small round brushes for tiny details too. In the pdf by the link below you can find the names and numbers of the brushes and lot of other information about the materials I use with gouache "Gouache Painting Supplies" PDF : goo.gl/PE3MM9

    Do you prefer Acrylic or Gouache for these? I use gouache currently and probably won't venture into another medium for awhile but I would love to try a less soluble medium one day and since this kind of thing is the stuff is like to paint, would you say acrylic would be a great alternative for it or would you say oil is a better medium? I also really need to get myself a nice toned paper someday :) any suggestions?

      Hi! I would say to me gouache and acrylics are very similar when applied to paper. You must have seen my demo of a beach scene done with acrylics; I painted it in my gouache sketchbook and if I didn’t know it was done with acrylics I would never say it wasn’t gouache. I use them interchangeably and like both acrylics and gouache. Acrylics are suitable for larger formats though. Oil is a completely another story, it requires another technique and approach, so if you want to try something new you might consider trying oils :)

    • @Raeburnsart
      @Raeburnsart Před 6 lety

      Lena Rivo yes! I noticed that sometimes I think I'm looking at one of your gouache work and find out it was acrylic!! And I'm like oh... There are many works in acrylics I don't like. Perhaps it's the artist technique. But sometimes they don't come across natural and a bit oddly vibrant. Your work is always vibrant but not unrealistic. Almost like every day in your art world it's a perfect day with perfect lighting. It's always warm (even though you often use cool colours!) and inviting. And I really love that homeliness you serenade upon your viewers.
      I have seen many oil artworks on the other hand that I love very much, many classical painters of the past are my inspiration. I do love the mediums look. But that's why I asked. You made acrylic look quite wonderful and not many artworks I've seen have ever done that for me. :) ... Oils do look complicated however.

      I was going to ask about using gouache vs acrylics also. I have used acrylics for a couple of years and have just started experimenting with gouache. Your methods and techniques with gouache and acrylic are very similar. They both dry very quickly. But I would think that it is easier to blend colors on the paper with acrylics and since acrylics won't reactivate once they are dry on the paper, you don't have the worry that you have with gouache that you will accidentally lift some of the earlier layers.
      I know that gouache has a matte finish as opposed to the glossier finish of acrylics, but other than that.... I would guess that acrylics are easier to work with and you seem to get the same effects with both. I'd love to hear your thoughts....... Thank you for sharing these videos. They are inspiring and helpful and your paintings are beautiful !!! I have just found you on CZcams and I'm so glad that I did......

      @LenaRivo  Před 6 lety +1

      SusanMJB45 Hi, Susan. You are right, my approach to gouache and acrylics is very similar. I choose acrylics when I need to paint on a larger format. I like how they behave on paper and I also like that they don’t change the tone after drying. The fact they can’t be reactivated is a disadvantage for me as I like to review my the edges in a painting before I declare it finished. Other than that I don’t see much difference between acrylics and gouache and love them both. By the way you can make your acrylic painting done on paper look like gouache. Just cover it with a very thin layer of matte acrylic varnish. I have done this to one of my acrylic paintings painted in a gouache sketchbook. That satin gloss of acrylic paint disappeared completely and the painting now looks like all the other paintings in that sketchbook.
