ASC T-128 Tornado Siren Test - Cincinnati, Ohio - 10/2/2013

- I recorded and put this video together a few years back (2013) of an ASC T-128 located at Shroder High School in Cincinnati. This siren was relatively new at this time and replaced the Federal Signal SD-10 seen next to it. Since this video, the SD-10 has been removed. Hamilton County no longer does growl, alert, and attack. They only test in alert nowadays.

These sirens are meant for more than just tornado warning signals. The ‘Attack’ signal is for when there’s some sort of civil danger like an incoming missile.
You may not believe this but there's a fire signal too. The intervals of the attack tone are MUCH longer

I love that you separated and called out the Alert and Attack signals. I live in an area where the sirens no longer work and are just part of our history, even though there are over 200 still located around the city. So hearing the Alert and Attack, for me, lets me hear a bit of local history. Thank you.

Lol, yes that is basically the circumstance of the situation for growl, alert, and attack.
The growl is just a test tone, not really used for natural disasters I don't think.

Killcard101 Growl is for tests and has no actual use. Alert back in the days of the Cold War was an “All Clear” signal telling people that the danger was over. Attack meant that the local area was under attack and you should “take cover” or in other words bend over, grab your ankles, and kiss your ass goodbye.
Kinda weird how the SD-10 was on a higher pole. Awesome video, its cool to see older stuff from the area. Hope you have more of these!

I was there when this happened! I went to that school starting in 2013 until graduating in 2018. They have 7th and 8th graders there as well. And I'm a weather geek so this is really awesome!

Ours is tested in the 4th Wednesday of every month at noon. An FS Modulator 6024 is right next to my school. I want so excited when it went off I looked at it while it went off and everyone else was covering their ears 😂

Funny that continuous wail is alert in the USA, it means "All clear" here in the UK, not that many places still have sirens since the cold War ended.
The 2 other tones I have heard in the UK are Hi-Lo which is currently used for escape alert from the most secure psychiatric hospital.
And pulsed which is kind of obsolete since ww2

The SD 10 did not stay next to the T128 for long because the SD 10 eventually got removed, and the T128 still stands the same place.

I live in Cuyahoga Falls and every Thursday, the tornado siren a little nearby my house is tested and it’s pretty loud. It’s so loud even I can hear it when doing online school.

@@SWOhioSirens Taking another look, I see something distinctly Thunderbolt-like on satellite view, but not on street view. The street view is from 2012, so that leads me to wonder if they installed it between then and now for some reason.

It does sound like s fire truck. But fire trucks also have a few different sirens and a loud horn, plus lots of strobes so you can tell them apart from outdoor warning sirens.
The OWS I test has a single strobe.
Columbus, Ohio's sirens sound like a fire truck expect the tornado sirens are deeper, echoey, and more eerie.
I don't think they sound like a fire truck. Usually fire truck sirens have a much higher pitch. Really though it's up to the residents to learn to recognize the difference between their tornado sirens and fire trucks.

when i was in elementary school, we had the T-135 sirens by our school. we would always mimic the wind down sound, especially when the P-50s were still around, the
I removed that SD-10 from a building that was being razed to make way for the new school, then installed on that pole , before the county installed T-128`s were installed county wide.
