- Today Caleb from Brownells introduces and demonstrates various charging handle options from A3 Tactical specifically designed for the BRN-180.
Unboxing and Overview
-Caleb starts by showing the original BRN-180 charging handle, highlighting its basic design and functionality.
-He then introduces the new charging handle options from A3 Tactical, which include two different styles - a grooved cutout and a round design, both made from aluminum and steel.
Non-Reciprocating Options
-The most innovative addition is the non-reciprocating side charging handles. These handles mount to the standard BRN-180 and provide a non-reciprocating side charging action.
-These handles also feature aluminum and steel construction and come with a nub that replaces the original charging handle.
Installation Process
-Caleb demonstrates the installation of the standard round handle by removing the original handle and dropping in the new one, showcasing the ease of this process.
-He then moves on to the more complex installation of the side charging handle, detailing each step, including removing the original handle, installing the new nub, and mounting the side charging handle using M-LOK slots.
Practical Demonstration
-Caleb performs a function check, showing how the side charging handle works and emphasizing its non-reciprocating feature, which means it doesn't move back and forth with the bolt carrier group.
Key Features and Benefits
-Modularity: The new charging handles add significant modularity and customization options to the BRN-180 platform.
-Ease of Use: Both styles are easy to install and use, making them accessible for both left and right-handed users.
-Durability: Made from durable materials, these charging handles are built to withstand rigorous use.
Additional Tips
-Maintenance Advice: Caleb advises keeping the metal parts lubricated to ensure smooth operation. He also highlights the use of a polymer detent in the set screw for added smoothness.

Come on Caleb, I saw A3 and BRN-180 and thought this was going to be a sneak peak at the gen 3.
I was disappointed to see the retro BRN-180 lower and stock are discontinued, I wanted to build out a retro style 180 because the originals are unobtainable now
I don't really understand the nonreciprocating model. It blocks what looks to be part of the ejection path, especially when clearing and is very far forward.
At 3:44, looks like it'll require a little training to charge it with the dust cover closed. The original charging handle's shape probably keeps your fingers out of the way.
How can we make the BRN180 less ergonomic.. - A3 Tactical, probably
The weird forward charging handle isn't for standard BRN-180s. It's for BRN-180s on bullpup conversion lowers. Not my cup of tea, personally, but it makes way more sense than using it on a standard lower.
I have the forward charging handle on an A3 Tactical TRIAD bullpup conversion (BRN-180S 300blk - SBR). For that application, it works great.
Are you a wrongy or a righty?
@@boejiden1942 righty.... mostly.
@@boejiden1942 if he was lefty, his face would be directly in front of the ejection port in the TRIAD conversion.
There you go, at least Bear Creek Arsenal got there hook style side charging handle correctly that Brownell's took notice. lol
Totally fine with stock part
I wish they made a version of the stock one but with a larger diameter grip location. Think fancy benelli m2 three gun size.
Any issues with ejection having a piece of metal over the ejection port?
Curious if the round fails and you go to charge the bolt, will the round eject?
On those side charging nonresiprocating handles should you use a loctite on those screws to keep from loosing them?
8:55 doesnt it kind get in the way of the ejection
Now let’s see who makes a left charging handle conversion
It'd look like a West Virginia-nated Magpul BAD lever, curling over the top and blocking you from using optics 😂
I like the original one just fine.
Is a video on the Strike Industries Modular Fixed Stock happening anytime soon?
The mlock set up will make clearing a malfunction impossible with removing the mag.
You know, originally I thought the forward charger only made sense if you dropped the upper onto a bullpup lower, for right-handed shooters, that is. But looking at it, it might be easier to charge with a scope or a red-dot than the standard charging handle.
Someone should make an L85A2 style charging handle.
Why was the BRN180 SH discontinued?
I didnt think of it much when i bought it, but now, after i bought the brn180, and became a tad bit unhappy with its accuracy, i realized it kind of sucks being stuck with their proprietary barrel. I took it off, and it sits in the corner. I feel like i wasted $800 on something i cant really fix.
Unless the put AR-15 barrels on the next one, it aint worth it for me.
I love LEGOS!
I REEEALLLLY want to buy the BRN180 but man it seriously needs a heavy barrel contour.
This longer system seems to be more appealing for their bullpup
Ok but will Brownells be making a replacement for the 180SH? I want the option to shutoff my gas completely
Short answer, yes.
Do any of the charging handles interfere with a closed dust cover upon firing? I heard that was an issue with the existing circular charging handle.
Nope, these work fine.
My dust cover won't stay closed so it would definitely not affect mine...
@@boejiden1942 should probably get that fixed bro.
What stock is that?
Hey Brownells, Inc.,
I just watched your video and I must say it's really helpful and well made.
I was wondering if I could help you design your thumbnails for better CTR? Wanna try out a free one?
What's wrong with the original one?
Nothing, but people have been asking about this for a while now.
Can ya'll make some original looking AR-180 furniture, Im talking a handguard
The forward charger seems iffy to me. Too many added points of failure just to move it like 4 inches. I'm sure it'd be just fine for 99.99% of us, but for me it undermines the cool factor of the thing and there's no improvement in utility (I'm not a competition shooter or anything where the fraction of a second would matter).
I do like the straight handles that drop in because they could give a little more clearance when mounting optics. Only critique on them is that they're two piece construction instead of just machined from a single bit of steel. I'd probably loctite the screw that holds the two parts together.
Please make a metal dust cover
would be neat for those who think AR15 bullpups should be a thing.
Dude seriously used to think the OG BRN-180 charging handle was cool?
No , the fact that it's right side reciprocating charging really put me off the system .
Hmm, cool invention. But: it blocks the port for clearing malfunctions, doesn’t fold, and I actually prefer a reciprocating handle for non-forward assist systems. I just want a folding lever for the standard BRN charging handle.
More expensive, non needed, Gucci stuff. 🙄
I didn't know Gucci made gun parts. Did they just start doing it?
@@timrobinson6573 Nope, they said they were moving to Canada, if Trump was elected. Hmmm, They're still here.
I thought only Indians were moving to Canada?
That forward charging system makes no sense to me. It's pointless if you're left handed, and seems like an outright hindrance if you're right handed.
not buying anything online related to fire arms.. ammo guns etc.. not with a credit card .. they track everything we buy online no thanks sorry
Lmao shut up boomer
For some reason you think that all those cameras, license plate readers, facial recognition, cell phone trackers, etc, etc. can't track you if you use cash? You do realize you're watching and commenting on a suspicious video RIGHT NOW, right? Your account, IP address, etc. Hell, they can track you even when using a VPN by fingerprinting your browser/computer. Good luck!
Have you tried mailing a money order?
