The New Veloster N With DCT Got So Much Better (And A Bit Worse) - Reviewed By 2020 Veloster N Owner

  • If you're thinking about buying a Veloster N in manual transmission or dual clutch transmission (automatic) you've found the right video. I personally own a 2020 Hyundai Veloster N with Performance Package, and I got the chance to review a 2021 Hyundai Veloster N with DCT. This new hot hatch is more expensive, more refined, more safe, and more crazy. The optional dual clutch transmission is also a hoot to drive that comes with various extra features like NGS, NTS, and NPS, three acronyms that makes the Veloster N even more crazy.

    Coming out of a 2015 mk7 Golf R DSG, which I loved, especially the DCT and the individual options for comfort normal and sport as I loved having the DCC in comfort and everything else in sport. It was a lease so I had to return it and even though the mk8 is really tempting, after you tik all the boxes, it would end up costing over $10,000 more than I spent on my mk7 R and I'm trying to find something that going to be a lesser payment than my $40,000 mk7 so I think this is the car for me. And from what I've read and watched, the veloster N is a lot more precise and smile-inducing in terms of performance and handling then the golf R. And since I live in South Florida with no snow and no potholes, who needs the AWD. And I'll finally get to experience what a true front LSD feels like. Can't think of anything better for the price. Thanks for the review 👍

    It's nice to see manual drivers say that the DCT is fun. I've seen plenty of reviews and while the manual is more engaging, I've also seen people put it in manual mode and have a blast with it. Just accept it: automatic isn't as bad as you think it is.

      It’s not as bad, but tapping a plastic paddle will never be as fun as engaging/disengaging the clutch manually and the notchy feeling of shifting it into gear yourself. It’s also rewarding when u get a great 0-60 or do good rev match because it’s actually u doing it not a computer chip.

Fun fact the 19 veloster N also had over boost you just had no control over it Albert berimen said it himself. I've seen the seats during a track run and they move quite a bit, they flex a little too much. Also, though they are performance seats, they actually are not harness ready. Though I love the seat design and logo light, I likely will be replacing them and installing harnesses. The tech options and custom tuning is awesome! The warranty likely doesn't cover the clutch packs. ?? What's the cost to have the clutch packs replaced, and can you put in more aggressive ones? Also, they use some odd named turbo that makes me question durability.

    I bought DCT a month ago because idk how to drive a stick, but is manual that much more fun? It almost sounds like DCT isn't that fun :(

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  Před 3 lety +5

      DCT is more fun because it feels much faster than the manual. But a manual is more engaging because you feel more involved in driving. It’s a trade off.

      @@TMANN1 not trying to start a war here. But there is plenty you can do. Like learning to drive manual. Is really not that hard, is just like learning to ride a bike. At first you are scared and it takes practice but eventually you learn and it becomes second nature. When starting to learn you get nervous and you loose some confidence everytime the car stalls. Just gotta take it slow and keep practicing.
      Lastly if you already have dCT, it is still an amazing car. Enjoy it!

      Drove both and ended up with the dct. Performance is so much better in the dct. It surprisingly felt more alive that the manual did.

      @@tylerp3397 It's not the car. I am talking about any car. I have driven manual's my whole life. I have owned 3 automatics in my over 30 years of driving including the New Charger Daytona with the wonderful ZF 8 speed. And frankly auto's are boring. I am actually thinking of getting rid of my car and going back to Subaru and getting an STI. And before you say well that's a different kind of car. I know I have had Chevy Cruze 6 spd, Cavalier, Optra, CRV, Santa Fe, Elantra touring wagon, Subaru WRX sport wagon all manual that were more fun then my Charger and my Trans am I had with an auto.. Auto's are just boring to me.No driving engagement. It's just not about how fast the gear changes are. It's about the driving experience. If your not engaged in a manual car your just not driving. Before you say well what about traffic I drive for work 60,000 km a year in the busiest corridor with the most traffic in the world and still love manual better.

      There are easier cars to learn on (Toyota Corolla, VW Golf) but this isn’t bad either. I learned manual on an AWD car and that was tougher.
