A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera Belt Out a Powerful Rendition of "Say Something" at AMA 2013

- Life for A Great Big World (aka, the musical duo of Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino) is moving at warp speed.
Their collaboration with Christina Aguilera on "Say Something" from their upcoming album "Is There Anybody Out There?" has, quite simply, completely changed their careers.
Xtina first heard the song while watching So You Think You Can Dance. "And then we got a call and were in L.A. like a week later recording with her," Vaccarino said as he and Axel walked the red carpet at the 2013 American Music Awards.
Not long after that, they were performing the ballad with Xtina on The Voice. "We were touring and we canceled some shows to make it happen," Axel said. "Everything was happening so fast."
I love when a live version of a song is as good as the recorded version.

She heard the song and felt something special and decide to join the duet with AGBW, which caught by the labels and markets' eyes and eventually this song is No. 1 and won a grammy for AGBW. She did not even attend grammy and let the boys had the stage to themselves and let them own them. I'm glad she brought this song to my life!

I think this is one of the moments that Christina truly showcases her skill in that she is a powerhouse diva that is able to completely scale back her performance to match the tone of the group she is performing with, and not only does she not overpower or distract from them, she only enhances them. If you didn't tell me she featured on this track I would have just thought there was just an amazing girl on it. I never would have known they had a show stopping diva because she does not draw that kind of attention to herself on this. True artistry. On both sides. A wonderful collaboration.

Xtina has a career of 22 years, has toured the world, has been at the top in sales, and has 198 nominations for international awards, of which she has won 71 (5 of them Grammys). And yet, people are still bitching about her. This guy was a student of a vocal coach I studied with years ago, and I actually heard when she shared the great news that Xtina had liked his demo and wanted to record the song with him. He was EXPLODING OF HAPPINESS. Why? Simple: this guy alone would have achieved not so much. There are THOUSANDS of great songs by THOUSANDS of good indie artists that never get enough exposure (ask me, ask everyone I know in my music school and in musical theater lol). The reason he was released internationally was Xtina. Her star power took this song to charts AND to the Grammys. It's a FACT. Anybody who knows about the industry will tell you the same. So stop saying she was not necessary here, and by all means, stop criticizing her vocal technique here because she's doing a wonderful job and you're just being a hater.

The first time i heard this song on the radio i couldn't believe that it was Christina Aguilera singing... her voice was so soft, so calmed, not oversinging like she always does, her voice integrates the song so perfectly that you can barely separate them. I applaud Christina Aguilera this time.
Please check out songs like Saved me From Myself or Lift Me Up, her voice sounds perfect there, the first one is only a very soft tone, while the second one is a mix of the 2 without oversinging. I admit she does oversing sometimes on certain life performances, but this woman can honestly perform anything you give her and deliver well.
