Season 1 Episode 17 "Role Model"
A popular U.S. senator (Joe Morton) and presidential candidate succumbs to illness at a fundraiser and Vogler assigns House to his case. He also tells House he can keep his whole team if he endorses Vogler's pharmaceutical company. The Senator's initial diagnosis seems to point to AIDS, but House digs deeper for another answer. Meanwhile, he also handles a case of a woman who apparently gets pregnant without having sex. Cameron leaves the team and quits.

Cuddy- “You can’t do a brain biopsy on a US senator!”
House- “Oh! So on a janitor it would be ok? Do you have a list?”
Cuddy didn’t answer. But I wonder....
Because House has her dead to rights.
If this was some average joe, Cuddy would never even hear about this, much less interfere with House (who she knows is the best, even if unorthodox).
In her defense, she has face House for "no important" patients hundreds of time. And to make a mistake with the senator could mean millions of dollar going away in a way or another one and then alot of vulnerable people will lose access to health care
It’s not what you think, she actually just hates janitors
Yeah it's called politics.
As is shown many many times throughout the series, House tells Cuddy that she hasn't been a real doctor in years because she's the Dean Of Medicine. The series also gives us several examples of how political Cuddy's job is and how far she has to go to defend him.
House doing something not completely justifiable, and the Senator running for President getting messed up badly or dying, means that House, Cuddy, Chase, Wilson, Foreman, and Cameron, lose their jobs and will be from then on practicing at urgent care clinics in Missouri
Its explained a little bit during the episode. Vogler was being scared something happens to the senator. He made Cuddy spy on House during that case.
The dude who played the senator is a great actor, that stutter acting being so convincing is actually REALLY HARD to do
Joe Morton. He's one of my favorite actors and so underrated.
You might be surprised by how many great orators are former stutterers. The great James Earl Jones comes to mind. It takes a lot of hard work to overcome a speech impediment.

that always bugged me. i thought reflexes dont go into the brain
@@bagandee technically yes, reflex processes only goes as far to the brainstem, but if there's something wrong with ur brainstem then it's a good bet that there is also something wrong with ur brain
@@bagandee you realize your brain controls everything right ? How would you ever think reflexes don't have anything to do with the brain? Your brain controls everything lol
@@antayafairless9028 There are different types of reflexes , two types that I know of are monosynaptic reflex (in which the sensory information doesn't go to brain , it simply travels to the spinal cord and goes to the motor neuron) , and other is polysynaptic reflex (brain is involved in the reflex) .
So it would be a bit wrong to assume every reflex is associated with brain.
On Inside the Actors Studio (1994), Hugh Laurie admitted that when he first read the script for House (which did not have the title of "House M.D." at the time) he believed that the character of Wilson was the lead. He just couldn't believe that a man such as House could be the star of the show.👍

@@wowdogememe1541 you know they have the episode number and name in the description right?
and house has a recap of every episode written in it's wiki.
"House rushes to Wright's room and says he didn't damage his tongue in an accident, as he claimed earlier: He had an epileptic seizure. Wright admits it, but says he hasn't had a seizure since he was 10. House takes away his oxygen until he admits to taking a drug that, with the Epstein-Barr virus, can cause an autoimmune condition: common variable immunodeficiency disease.
Chase points out that he guessed the patient had that condition earlier, and House rejected the diagnosis because it is normally a childhood disease. House believes that the patient got the disease as a child, but it remained asymptomatic until he was under the stress of campaigning. He orders the team to treat Wright for it despite how unlikely it might be."

One of the problems that I have with this episode is that an HIV test takes less than 2 minutes to perform and only requires a drop of blood.
Technically, yes...by 2005 rapid HIV tests had been around for about 3 years with 20 min for results. But, even real life doctors will not do tests when they believe themselves to be 100% right, even when they aren't. I could go into great detail about an incident in my past where the doctor believed I simply had constipation with an internal hemorrhoid without touching me or doing a single test (not that I was hoping, but he didn't even do a "digital exam".)...short conclusion was that I had diverticulitis, a 3mm abscess in the colon and several (benign) polyps..all of which was discovered a week later when I saw my regular doctor (who wasn't available the "first" visit) who set up a CT scan for the next day.
@@bubbaguy4411 Trust me, I know. I spent 2 years telling doctors that I don't have contact dermatitis. I literally had to go on a 3 day water fast against my dietitians advice to self-diagnose a gluten allergy (not Coeliac, and looks like contact dermatitis sometimes). When I got back to my home town, my childhood doctor told me they could've just ran a blood test for that.
Ever since watching this show I tell my doctors literally everything. Yes I used the term correctly. Everything.

One of the best eps in the whole show. This one and the one with the jazz musician.
I find it incredibly unlikely that they would have done a brain biopsy without having done a full blood workup first. And, being a high-profile patent, they would have done just about every blood test out there. Even if they didn't get an HIV test, no doubt they would have done an immunological panel which would show the lack of T-Cells which would then give them cause to specifically test for HIV. A big part of this episode is just so easily solvable that it makes it boring...

@@cindylou3205 it would be more fun if they said chungus. because get it big chungus
Could this have been from uncooked meat or something like this?
@@permazero @WatchSheed Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite found in cat feces. Changes the behavior of mammals, specifically to make them less fearful and more accepting of their surroundings. Say you're a cat. You don't have any natural predators that you can't get away from (except hawks and owls, but that's rare). But there are many small mammals like rats, squirrels, mice, shrews etc. that are easy targets, but run away easily. If they're infected with this parasite, they are less fearful and they (though they could) don't run away. Then the cat gets an easy kill.
And yes, this is basically what causes the crazy-cat-lady phenomenon. They get infected with such parasite and see nothing wrong with their house of 100 cats.
Many (hundreds of millions) people are actually infected with this parasite. But it doesn't pose a threat to that person's health unless he or she is immuno-compromised.
