To be fair, Obi-Wan had just a massive battle in the Geonosian arena against hundreds of battle droids, so fatigue may have played a part in his defeat against Dooku, not just the Count’s superior dueling prowess

  • @aodhhanswtor7252
    @aodhhanswtor7252 Před 7 měsíci +58

Excellent breakdown. Dooku was much more powerful and experienced than ObiWan and Anakin. During their first meeting, Dooku likely could have killed both. Not only was he more focused on escape, he saw ObiWan as a grandchild of sorts. Maintaining high regard for QuiGon, and as you stated, he was very disappointed in ObiWan's skill with the light saber.
Deep down, it's likely Dooku was hoping to turn ObiWan to the dark side as his apprentice in order to eventually kill Sideous. A sentiment which is brought out in the novelization when we learn of Dooku's conversation with the Emperor on the Invisible Hand at the end of the war.
Dooku was also under orders to leave Anakin 'unspoiled'. As Dooku would later learn of his master's plan for Anakin. Well, at least part of his master's plan.

Honesty I think the reason why Count Dooku lasted that long against Yoda is because he's one of the most talented swordsman alive at that point but more importantly he's been training with the Yoda his entire life. Well, that and the fact that Obi Wan was a naturally defensive fighter which was the perfect counter to Anakin's more aggressive style. He knew his moves AND he utilized a style that was perfect to defeat that version of Anakin. Now Vader, that's a totally different beast as Vader was an older, wiser Anakin who developed his style to compensate for his limitations and utilized a slower but more disciplined style that utilized powerful strikes. I always saw a bit of Dooku in Vader but far more powerful and dangerous.

It’s worth noting that Episode Obi Wan had not yet hit his prime. Four years of constant war and many duels honed him into a far more skilled fighter by the time of Revenge of the Sith. Weak Jedi didn’t survive long in the war.
What makes order 66 even more scary is that the Jedi at that point, though numerically diminished, were overall easily the most skilled and experienced in combat the Order had seen in several thousand years. Take the entire Order at the time of Order 66 and they would have made a mighty army. Unfortunately Palpatine had set things up in a way that spread them thin across the galaxy as individuals alone with thousands of Clones preprogrammed to kill them.

Dooku is so much more important and integral in the Clone Wars than we initially thought when the movies came out. I'm glad we can look back at it now and fully appreciate how educated, powerful and dangerous Dooku was. He wasn't just some old man, he would be the one sith to let the jedi fully realize how wrong they were and how too late it was for them. Dooku's role in the Clone Wars could not be understated and I'm hoping we see something just as prominent in the new Ahsoka series.

  • @newhybrid101

    There are no excuses.
Dooku was far more powerful at that point.
When someone is stronger with the Force their force augmentation also increases which means greater force enhanced strength and speed.
Thats why Dooku was easily overpowering Obiwan in saberlock.
By EP3 its stated in the novel that Obiwan was stonewalling Dookus attacks and he was ready to counter his force choke.
Sidious broke Obiwans force shield when he yelled "GIT" which allowed Dooku to choke Obiwan
Obiwan was relative to Dooku in EP3,weaker but now he could stalemate him with his defence forever
Anakin himself was nearly completely equal to Dooku before tapping to the darkside to overpower Dooku.
And if you doubt it,go look at the comments behind the writers about describing Dooku.
He is said to be far more skilled and far more POWERFUL than Anakin and Obiwan in EP2
Its also stated that while Anakin has a lot of power inside him he cant actually use it due to inexperience.
So effectively he was never as strong as the top tiers in the prequels

He was out of breath after a short fight. Form IV is a very physically demanding form, and qui gon being older would tire out faster. It’s simple, maul was younger and was in better physical shape than qui gon. It’s not that qui gon was “weak”, he was just physically inferior to maul, who was a beast and in his physical prime. Also maul and qui gon were nearly equal in terms of skill, while Dooku in episode 2 outclassed every jedi other than Yoda fairly easily, making him appear “strong”

The reason why Obi Wan was so weak against Dooku are the same reasons that Anakin was so weak against Obi Wan
Dooku was Obi Wan's master's master and was intimately knowledgeable about Obi Wan's strengths and weaknesses.
Unlike every other opponent Obi Wan faced Dooku knew Obi Wan's style was a defensive style and thus forced him to be more aggressive. In addition to that Dooku was a far more experienced tactician and master duelist and Obi Wan couldn't manipulate Dooku's emotion like he could with Anakin.

Instead of going offensive he should have gone defensive but he had become as arrogant as he was defiant (not much but still there). He let himself be goaded by Dooku into attack and it was only due to Anakin’s second intervention that Obi wan survived.

@@MrAgmoorenot sure who you’re referring to. If you mean Obi Wan that’s incorrect as he intercepted the lightning with his blade before Dooku activated his own. It’s likely he taught Anakin the same technique but in his impatience and anger, Anakin disregarded it as he rushed Dooku.
As for Anakin, he was trying to get back to Padmé so likely wasn’t thinking clearly entering the fight. He also rushed Dooku with his lightsaber probably expecting a confrontation similar to Qui Gon/Obi Wan ten years earlier; not force lightning. Lastly he was still a Padawan, as powerful and experienced as he had become there was a high possibility Darth Tyranus would defeat him (without Jedi Knight Obi Wan Kenobi’s help). In the end he has to face Dooku alone and gets his hand cut off; even when he briefly overwhelms the Count with two lightsabers he is quickly disarmed and defeated without a second hit of lightning to incapacitate him.

The impression that I got, was that Dooku wasn’t interested in fighting Obi-Wan (his apprentice’s apprentice) , but rather wanted to test Anakin. And by Revenge of the Sith, not only had Anakin learned that lesson and gotten stronger and faster, but Dooku’s age had betrayed the older man, as his endurance wasn’t up to a prolonged fight and with lightsabers, all it takes is one slip.
Beyond that, I’ve never understood how one person could hold off fighting two or more opponents, at the same time, only for it to become a far different fight once it gets down to a one on one matchup. I mean if the first guy was fighting the others by way of series one on ones while his final opponent was for whatever reason holding back or trying to catch-up, I could understand it. But at the same time? The only way I could think of them is if the first guy had grown overconfident or tired or took injury or their surroundings had changed or their weapons changed.

Dooku is a Form 2 (Makashi) specialist. Form 2 focuses on technique and precision rather than brute force or speed.
Makashi is aimed at deconstructing the enemy's defenses and offenses.
As opposed to Anakin, who is a form 5 (Shien) user and focuses on overpowering the opponent, and to Yoda, who is a form 4 (Ataru) user and focuses on overwhelming the opponent.
Because of that, Form 2 allows one to defend themselves from enemies that are physically much stronger or agile (as opposed to form 5, which focuses on strenght, and form 4, which focuses on speed).
It also avoids tiring the user by using efficient and minimal movements (as opposed to form 4, which can easily tire it's user).

Sidius was not superior to Yoda. Yoda was able to overcome Sidius’ force powers but the shockwave knocked his smaller frame further. Had they been on the ground and Sidius not had the high ground, Yoda would have defeated him.

Here's some video ideas with all due respect:
    - Why anakin believed he was better swordsman than Yoda in EP2
    - Anakin's childhood at the jedi temple
    - Dooku's life as younger
    - A video about notable swordmasters (Duelists that were really good with lightsabers)
    - Palpatine coming back as clone (dark empire)
    - How Yoda trained to become so powerful himself
    - and maybe a detailed video on Yoda's isolation on dagobah 😊

It comes down to forms used makishi focus on blade to blade combat and dukoo was a master of it so he could use well placed strikes to slowly tear down defenses and an all defensive form is horrible against it while anikan used his power to overwhelm dukoo and repost for defenses and obi wan has no force shield I mean kenobi got rag dolled by dukoo while dukoo was trying to hold off anikan

One thing I hate is when everyone only partially put blame on Obi-wan Everyone fully blames every dark sider or evil character for there mistakes even the jedi council and Yoda for thinking they could defeat Sidious and the Sith like they did 1000 years before that or how the Jedi Treated Anakin but everyone always shields Obi-wan because he is Obi-Wan he could do no wrong or if he does it's not all his fault even Luke doesn't get that protection like Obi-wan does It's okay to love Obi-wan and criticize him people treat him like is space Jesus or so good at things that Palpatine's foresight is treated as weaker than anything Obi-wan thinks or does

    • @eds1942

      Lol, what?
We all know that Obi-Wan failed Anakin as a mentor and father figure, was too by the Council’s orders and is a liar. And that’s on top of having no room in his heart for redemption.
He could’ve helped Anakin after he clipped his wings on Mustafar or put him out of his misery. But he instead chose to leave him there. Despite everything Anakin had done by Mustafar, it wasn’t until it became clear that Anakin had turned fully to Sith and against everything that Jedi stood for, that Obi-Wan believed him to be truly lost and beyond redemption. His apprentice had chosen to the Darkside, so that was that.
And 19/20 years later, starts training his apprentice’s son to kill him, lying to him about his father’s identity on the off chance that the boy wouldn’t be able to handle that fact. He needed that boy to fix the Council’s, and his, mistake, while he still had time to see to the boy’s training. Yet he held off training or guiding Luke in any shape or form until he nearly 20 years old and then sent him to train under Yoda who he knew had nearly turned Luke’s father away since he at 8/9 was too old to train and who had nearly turned himself away from training since he was at 3 almost considered to be too old.
Obi-Wan was the ideal Jedi of his day. But that included both the Order’s pros and cons. But that’s aside from the personal flaws that everyone has.
Be assured that we don’t put Obi-Wan on a pedestal next to space Jesus, like too many fans now-a-days put his apprentice, the guy who chose to spend half of his life as the right hand man of space hit!€4.

seems like a lot of these power levels are a combination of experience, natural strength and focus (will to fight). The beat down jedis always fare poorly...emotion and focus seems to fuel their power. everybody keep talking about Qui Gons age but Dooku and Yoda (Mace?) are older still so that doesn't explain anything.

I forgot how much more “real” the Ep1 fight was vs the flourishing of Ep2&3. I guess you could say in Ep1 they were very skilled but simply trying to kill each other, but later on they were all Jedi duelists who knew each other’s training and were probing for a gap to exploit rather than going for a kill with each swing

I would love if you could discuss Anakins skill as a duelest at this point.
I personally think Anakin was correct when he said the Jedi were holding him back.
During the speeder chase Obi-wan stated "if you practiced your Saber technique as often as your wit, you would rival Master Yoda as a swords man" to which Anakin replied "I thought I already did." Which Kenobi dismisses.
Yet Anakin, still a Padawan Learner, managed to not only hold his ground against Duku, a Master of form 2, but even had him on the defensive for almost a minute.

Obi-Wan was exhausted by this point
the hardest fight of his life up to this point had been Maul, who he only beat through surprise. Maul taking him seriously would have killed him
Maul was hilariously outclassed by Sidious, and at least with a blade, Dooku was better than Sidious
And this was not the Kenobi of the end of the war (who still got stomped by a weaker version of Dooku)
so yeah, this fight was 100% 'stall and pray'

What I don't understand is, why everyone losing a limb is getting mechanic replacements? I mean, we have already achieved giving a man who lost both hands giving him new ones, so isn't such a difficult technology. And in the millennia of high tech, no one in the galaxy ever tried to develop this? I mean, we are even about to grow organs on a petri dish, and they just have mechanical hands and legs?
