    From CAC to Details. And Details to CAC. Sometimes you win -- sometimes you lose.

    I have the same point of view as the dealer who got the coin back as "cleaned". The dubious look on his face more demonstrated what I think I see with grading services. They won't take a chance on making a mistake the 1st time. They summarily reject a coin and dare the submitter to send it in again for another PCGS or NGC or CAC grader who, after the local bar 2 martini "lunch special", can grade the coin and certify it as being A OK AYE! Grading is for all of you to spend your hard earned money on. I will buy it graded in an online deal without the hassle.

  • @tom_morgandealer_pgh1648

    I love the large one cents. As far as cleaned or damage coins sometimes the coin just speaks for itself and you have to have it no matter the grade.

    Trade secret: PCGS's grading has gotten stricter since CAC announced their new slabbing service.

    Still a fan of raw coins. They can't get it wrong, if cant see it. Plus if its raw then you have no choice but to buy the coin, not the holder.🎉

    What that first coin means to me - That was an old holder and the coin changed where Graders can no longer tell if it was Cleaned. I have not problems buying a Detail Coin if it is hard to tell it has been cleaned. The coin is even preferable dipping it for a few seconds in e*Z*est, providing the cleaning is done correctly. I do have detail PCGS coins I purchased that would be worth $150 if not cleaned, the Ebay Seller, (an actual coin Dealer), was trying to originally sell them for $75, and I bought them for $45.

    Why would you send a Buffalo Nickel (or any coin) that was graded NGC-MS66 CAC only to crack out and resubmit it to PCGS. What were you hoping for, MS-67,68 ? That was a dumb move. I wonder how much value it has now compared to the previous NGC grade.

  • @gmail4218

    Why would you try to cross over an NGC MS66 CAC common date Buffalo nickel, a mere $100 coin? And why did you not specify the minimum crossover grade? What am I missing?

    • @tylonnplatinumthe3rd659
      @tylonnplatinumthe3rd659 Před rokem

      It was a crackout not crossover. I felt the coin was a 67 which would put it over $300 if I recall. Definitely wasn’t expecting a details grade

    What is difficult to digest is that people spend real money on these coins. When the coins get sent in we expect consistency. For collectors to say "they were really strict this time".
    Well what does that say?
    I have been down this road myself and it really stings.
    I dont think its corruption. That would be illegal. I think its different graders giving different grades at different times. Im dont sending my coins in for grading. Last round was really tough and cost me a lot of money. Big turn off because they were cracked out hoping for a better grade. Instead I feel I got burned. I blame myself for relying on the consistency that just doesnt exisit anymore. Collecting coins for most of us is a lose money proposition. If you plan on keeping your coins for the next 10 years you might be ok. Maybe.

    Pretty tough on me this go around. There’s definitely some that should have came back details but yah extra tough this time. Like others have said probably getting more strict with the cacg launch

  • @johnskujins8870
    @johnskujins8870 Před rokem +1

    I think part of it is that the graders would rather under-grade than over-grade a coin, or grade it as cleaned if they are uncertain. That way if you buy a PCGS coin then you can be confident that it's AT LEAST that grade, or anyway that is the reputation that PCGS would prefer to have I assume.

    • @don951
      @don951 Před rokem +1

      For sure. And that is why PCGS coins command the most money. They are tough -- for a reason.

  • @unapologeticallypatriotic3853

    I think when they get it wrong as in this guy's case they should do do thier best to offer his fee-less grading on the next 5 coins to offset his cost of having to send that coin in multiple times.

    Another trade secret: PCGS is not crossing over anything NGC even if CAC approved unless it is outright under graded.

    • @Crispy_Mofo_
      @Crispy_Mofo_ Před rokem

      That's not true. I just had a crossover 1911 $5 indian from NGC to PCGS. MS63 one to the other.

    • @gmail4218
      @gmail4218 Před rokem

      @@Crispy_Mofo_ I rest my case. Your coin must be under graded. All 46 of my NGC coins did not cross over in a recent shipment, many of which had CAC stickers!

    I quit using PCGS after I was hit hard by them with low grades on mint fresh, perfect coins on about 7 or 8 pretty expensive coins. I had to wait 14 weeks to get my grades on a group of 5 coins I submitted! 14 weeks! Ngc is okay, but now I use ANACS exclusively.

    The Large Cents were treated a bit harshly. PCGS has been tough on them in the last few months. I have a 4 coin submission of Large Cents at PCGS...this video has me a bit concerned. I was really surprised by the Buffalo with machine damage. Should have crossed it to CACG instead of cracking it out. BTW Drew...when will you be able to submit to CACG?

    The question is, do grading companies make the hobby better? I have my doubts. I know for sure CAC makes the hobby worse, and it's a blight on collectors that we let the devil get a foot in the door...

    • @alwaysseekingsilver
      @alwaysseekingsilver Před rokem

      Certainly there are grading companies that do make the hobby worse. I don’t think those happen to be PCGS, NGC or CACG, but the other TPG’s that consistently overgrade coins or give straight grades to details coins on a regular basis. One thing is for sure though - if you don’t like graded coins, don’t buy them, or buy them and crack them out to make them raw again, and be right with your conscience.

    • @LenHere
      @LenHere Před rokem

      @@alwaysseekingsilver Please explain all the "crack out" videos where people get a cleaned coin from PCGS, crack it out, send it to NGC and get a straight grade. And vice versa. The Coin Geek has a LOT of those videos. If you think PCGS and NGC are any better than the others, you're delusional. CAC has brainwashed the market of supposedly intelligent coin collectors...
