I really hope it’s closer to 70000 than 60000
Any less than 70,000 seems pointless for the hassle and expense involved
I agree 👍70,000 minimum
100%
Agreed. 60000 isn’t really much extra.
Expense is irrelevant when they're spending monopoly money
@@michaelsimpson2087 they wouldn't get 70 000 get ye head out the clouds
If you believe we should be challenging for all the big prizes then we need a modern huge capacity stadium, big enough for future ambitions. Constantly upgrading St James Park will not be enough no matter how sentimental you are about it, time to think big!
Typical
@@tomjardine100lol tosser
It needs to be 70+ minimum
Agreed mate, anything less seems pointless to me.
SJP need to be 70
That's what I thought mind it's hardly meeting a demand for such an ambitious club?
I’d take a new world class stadium over a redevelopment, all sentimentally aside,it’s really a once in a lifetime opportunity, owners come and go,a new stadium would be something to lift the city,it’s not as if St,James’Park has been a lucky place! As long as there’s silverware I’m not bothered where they play !
Do you ever think they don't actually wanna build a new one? Not gonna tell us are they
@@NUFC2412
It’s obvious that most club owners now, are more interested in revenue generated from TV and from over seas, I think the future will just be more of the same, A new stadium would have been great for the area, I wouldn’t be surprised if the council have a hand in the decision, but along as they’re competing for silverware that’s the most important thing
this. a 60k stadium is going to still be an issue in 30 years like it is now
Redevelop to get an extra 8000 to 13000 capacity? Not great or visionary really.
We could fill SJP currently with an extra 30000.
So developing the only stand we can (Gallowgate End) leaving us with a lopsided ground (3 large sides instead of current 2) with the diddy east stand - unable to develop thanks to grade 1 Leazes Terrace.
Don’t forget, we don’t even own the current SJP land (we rent it off the council).
If the report is true then - Total wasted opportunity to build a world class 80000 Wembley of the North. Watching SJP ‘develop’ since 1975, it’s been a series of compromises. The latest news may yet be another one.
you've posted this in every video on the topic and it's still a load of shite
@@jazzybaboon …….thanks for your constructive critique, mr baboon.
@@jazzybaboonlol noticed that. What a plonker
@@jazzybaboon….and yet, mr baboon, you haven’t given your thoughts on SJP redevelopment but have simply resorted to crude insults. No very mature debating.
I love St James's but To be sincere the extra seating is only going to accommodate a small percentage of fans who want a season ticket,,add that to the inconvenience and lower crowds while work takes place then I dont see this as a good option. Im surprised such good business minded owners are entertaining this idea.
Another 7,500 for the half the cost of a new 75,000 seater modern stadium. Absolutely mental. Leazers terrace is going to make this an astronomical cost for little gain. Pointless
Was why SJH never expanded the Gallowgate. The cost would put tickets up so high they'd struggle to fill it.
For ordinary fans it's not good news because it will be corporate and expense for tourists not the real fans
i wanted go for a new staduum.
the time, closing stands, the cost, only 60k capacity at st james. with new stadium can do wateva want.
It seems like competing for the top 4 really is the summit of their ambition. A missed opportunity, and nothing likely to be built for years.
I doubt that will happen
52 thousand up to 60 thousand at what expense how many supporters are still going to be sitting with little or no chance of getting into the stadium on match day
Not youre money mate
@@ih8utoob51 kinda missed the point...
issue is not enough increase in capacity
They can only extend the Gallowgate end, the small east stand is hemmed in by a grade 1 listed building. Not much more than 60K possible, bad news for all those fans on the waiting list for season tickets.
I stood at St James's against Wrexham when there was only 7,000 there. You had to walk ten yards in the Gallowgate to ask the time. Last game of the 78-79 season.
Me too!! Stood in the paddock and only being able to see the top half of players on the opposite side due to the curved pitch. Back then, who’d have thought we’d get 52000? The way we are now, thanks to season ticket/membership numbers we could go way over the 6000 additional seats a limited redevelopment of SJP would bring. The reality now is we are restrained by ffp etc for buying players. but we’re not restricted in how much can be spent on a state of the art stadium on Castle Leazes directly behind the Leazes end. I think this a one in a lifetime opportunity.
Whilst delighted that we stay in this location, the site is so compromised. If we can't rotate/push up into the park a bit then we're only ever going to be able to add a few thousand seats. Long-term we need a new state-of-the-art 70,000+ stadium on this site. Can we build around the current one like Spurs did?
The majority of the seats will go to cooperation fans so don't get to excited.
So not good news for others.
If you see what Fulham have done at Craven Cottage, they’ve done gradual builds on the stand, all the while allowing fans in the stadium…
Obviously I’m not comparing St James’ Park to Craven Cottage, but maybe something similar could be done?
Believe me the PIF will make an amazing stadium if they can, maybe all glass? honestly am buzzing with this its our cathedral on the hill a wake up every morning in my high rise looking at it and smiling.
8000 seats average £50 a seat x 19 home games is an extra 7.6 million a season in revenue. looking forward to seeing what sort of plans they are going to put forward as its the best of both worlds. i dont think anyone REALLY wanted to move but feel everyone can see the demand is there for more capacity. i do agree with some of the comments that an extra 8000 seat isnt going to touch the demand
Logically they'll increase ticket prices. Can probably double them to get some funds to improve the squad 👌🏻
I’d rather have a new stadium 70k plus with a roof and built for the future. Rather than putting more extensions on it , the same people who want it to stay better not complain if they can’t have a ticket for 4 to 5 years and their is thousands less every game , a new stadium was the way to go to put Newcastle on the level we want to be and have a world winning stadium that hold concerts and world cups and rugby ect we could generate so much more money and have it all , for me it’s a set back and Iv been going to st James park for over 40
years , so please don’t complain if you loose your season ticket for a few years as someone has to , that’s the reality of staying for 8k more maybe 10k , leazers park was the way to go half build and build it bigger and better , the council would of done it with the money it could of blackmailed out of the club and how much it would then generate for all the other events,
Disappointed. We should have pushed as hard as we could to move and rebuild just a little bit north into the park. Create a piazza where the old stadium was.
The facilities at St James’ are shockingly bad now.
Hmmm really if you take a look at the biggest 100 stadiums in the World that would mean after the upgrades Newcastle wouldnt be in the top 100, not sure that fits with my expectations of the plans for Newcastle United
Be very interesting to see the new plans, Leazes terrace behind the east stand is Grade one listed, but owned by a Saudi group, I'm sure the owners of Leazes terrace won't object, it's mostly lettings now anyway, the council will have to give it the go ahead, it's still a very tricky situation, for me 60,000 is not enough, got to be at least 65,000, meaning somehow the Gallowgate end and east stand HAVE to be renovated, it's going to be very interesting seeing the official plans, and hopefully done for the 2028 European championships.
I personally would have loved a new stadium, it's going to be very interesting, but if we can do it, we've got the best people looking in to it, great times ahead anyway. HWTL
Absolutely fantastic news so glad we are staying at st James park 🤩😁😄
What happened to the vision of an iconic stadium similar to the stadiums visited in pre - season USA?, A "cathedral "should have a roof on though , nobody mentions the weather?
Bad news 8000 more?? Was hoping for a state of the art new stadium
Absolutely no Ambition
This isn't good news. SJP needs a big renovation and capacity still will be limited
Location location location mate its in the perfect spot
Glad we are staying but I hope its 70K capacity as we will easily fill it
Gallowgate has metro running underground near it and a major important road that links to the RVI hospital so no development there is going to be simple or maybe even possible.
The east stand as grade 1 listed Georgian buildings right near it so no way of upgrading that at all. Building upwards near residents brings other things like right to light laws into play.
The only to stands that can be upgraded are already huge. Only 7,500 according to some shit rag paper imagine that were true, that would drastically decrease capacity while work gets carried out, the cost would be astronomical, the disruption to the area would be unbelievabe. All that for another 7,500? No way. You could build a purpose built mega arena for a bit more than an extension. I dont believe a word of it.
Excellent news!
If they match the Gallowgate Stand to the same level as the Milburn and Sir John Hall stand would that increase the capacity to the stated 60k+?
And don't touch the size of the East Stand...
I don't see how it could be dramatically more than 60k unless they've all of a suddenly overcome the issues with expanding the East Stand?
If they manage to get it to 65,000 that would give us the third largest stadium in the country and second in the prem. owners will never want a stadium so large that it’s ‘easy’ to get tickets because that means empty seats for less attractive fixtures, they will always want there to be more demand than supply so the stadium is full and ticket prices rise with inflation. This is true of all clubs regardless of ownership. I don’t think building an 80k was ever likely.
Be nice to get some lifts/escalators put in. Level 7 is always a struggle.
Not a Newcastle fan but I think they need a 70,000 seater at the very least!
Doubt it will be 60,000 more like 70,000
70k minimum else its not worth it…
Complete lack of ambition. Have my doubts how successful PIF want us to be with minimal investment now that they have shoved their fingers into many pies
I think we should be extending the gallowgate upwards like dortmund. The black and white wall. And also the east stand. Would be mental.
Mental. What’s the point in spending a crazy amount of money for 7,000 plus seats. We should build a new 75,000 capacity stadium if the owners want to make it super club
Fans who already have a season ticket = Great news. I don't want to loose my seat.
Fans who are on the waiting list = No ambition. That's me f***ed for another ten years.
Good luck growing your fan base, to compete with the big boys. If perspective fans can't even go and watch a game with their friend together.
Does it say what company who's doing the work (I hope real Madrid builders)
It doesn’t say anything because it’s just luke Edwards posting bollox again the same man said he was told we where building a new stadium on castle leazes a month ago
I've said it loads of times- with the advancement in technology and construction methods, why can't we add another retractable tier to the east stand that can be lowered between games to allow the sunlight back through to the listed buildings? Even when it is erected, it came be made from some sort of see through 'glass' material to allow the light through as best as possible during games. I don't think the listed buildings are the main problem. The main problem is that stupid rule where sunlight needs to hit grade 1 listed buildings. Crazy.
However, my preference was a new stadium. To all the people crying about wanting to stay at SJP- We've knocked down ALL stands at one point in the past and replaced them. Plus, how many times has the pitch been re-layed!?? There is literally nothing left of the original ground anyway so what difference does a new stadium make that will probably only be a matter of a few hundred yards away from SJP??
Don't forget Liverpool built around original seating. Anything is possible
What have they added? A few thousand and more corporate seating.
Bad news for Newcastle fans, a missed opportunity and you really deserve better. Should have been a brand new stadium for 70k+ fans. Can't wait for the new Everton stadium to be finished. Good luck for the future. Everton fan.
Ticket sales don't really make much of an impact in terms of revenue. We'll get more revenue from global marketing, TV deals and sponsorships anyway. I'd rather keep the stadium where it is and update it. The location is iconic exactly where it is
The location is iconic but a couple of hundred yards to Castle Leazes isn’t much different and sadly this is a real kick in teeth for generations of kids. The only new seating will be expensive and corporate hospitality on Gallowgate, every penny counts in FFP and the ST holders moaning about 5% uplift this year have some big shocks coming.
Bollocks mate, look at arsenal's and spuds match day income compared to ours
Sorry Rob, you are so wrong, the land the stadium stands on is owned by the Freemen of Newcastle. It was Covenanted to the City in 1881 to be used for the purpose of sport for the community, this was when the West End team moved into sjp but couldn't afford it on their own, hence an East end club came in from St Peters to support them , after much arguing they decided on the name of the merged team as Newcastle United (was nearly Rangers) and joined the league in September 1892 !
By the way , the City Council administor on behalf of the Freemen !
This could be a wasted opportunity. SJP is showing it's age now and we have the chance to build something as good, if not better that the new Spurs stadium. Seeing the need for tickets over the last couple of seasons I'm sure we could fill 65,000 to 70,000 seats, week in, week out.
Doesn’t work on many many levels. Cost, size, listed buildings, loss of seating while doing. Needs a new stadium in the city.
Our rivals are all way ahead of us and this will not generate the sort of money we need to compete.
Spurs - new ground
Everton - new ground
City - new ground
Man U - new ground planned
West Ham - new ground
You can only refurbish if you have the space around you. We don’t thanks to leazes park, the road the metro tunnels and the listed buildings.
A re hashed old stadium , unless they demolish the lot . Compared to the new Spurs stadium and Everton’s new stadium it will still look like an old stadium and they will remain a second tier premier league club, only a new stadium can propel the club and the brand.
Needs to be 80,000
gutted, but expectdd
Something to consider revenue wise is that most of the money from stadiums comes from hospitality.
They will never get 70,000 without Leazes terrace making way or completely demolishing the stadium and rebuilding, they could move the pitch left marginally to accomodate a marginally bigger east stand, they could then fill in 2 corners with big extensions, and leazes east could get marginally bigger, and extend the gallowgate up and out but I would be surprised if they could actually get more then around 8000 new seats without some creativity, but there is no way in hell they will get 18,000 new seats on the current design without a major planning permission victory
This is nothing to get excited about ! I hope its just media shite ! We have an opportunity to build something magnificent and spending hundreds of millions to add 8000 seats with over 20000 on the waiting list makes no sense !
How about springboard diving
Same reporter had an exclusive and inside information just a month ago that they where going to build on castle leazes yous you tubers believe anything you see wrote in the papers
60000 seems pointless for the redevelopment effort and the fan base potential
Of options circulating on social media a few weeks ago the best option seemed to be a whole new stadium almost on the existing site where the existing ground could be used almost until completion of the new. FFP. Should be tied to team building and not infrastructure such as stadia. Not a fan of extension of current stadium
I still hope you get 70.000.
Well looks like tonalis been given another 2months added on poor lad can't catch a break
SJP need to be 70
It has to be the east stand
60k is not enough
Hundreds of millions for an extra 8000 is ridiculous.
It’s still lopsided and would appear even more odd
A new 70000 plus stadium is the way forward.
lower pitch add seats not get to far in the gods? Funding stability almost need an escrow trust to guarantee the commitment and work for the benefit of all city county owner. Bonds and interest to the FFP disadvantage over the past years lack of improved facilities for training and hosting Olympic level events Worlds Cup.
Will believe it when I see more reliable journalists reporting on it, Luke Edward’s is usually miles off it unless the story has already been broke by someone else and he’s re worded it
They should be building the Wembley of the North…
80,000 no less and they’d fill it every week…
It’s time
Max 8k to be truthful think it’s a waste of time and money stadium then 60k how many tickets to fans how many to corporate these are questions which the fans need to be informed about
Disappointing if the capacity only increases to 60,000.
70000 haha the Geordies thinking there a BIG club 😂
Honestly just really pleased to be staying at St James Park. I absolutely didn’t what to move to a new stadium, so that said, I’m very intrigued as to how the expansion will play out. Interesting times, I’m also pleased to know that the owners want it to be a much improved stadium in terms of facilities. Please, please stop selling the god awful substandard fast food.
Season ticket holders - "not moving ftom SJP, it's our home, renovate what we have"
Also ST holders - "why is my renewal £500 more?"
3:20 it's is correct not its
80k is needed
Ridiculous decision
No ambition. Spurs showed how to do it.
Try winning something. Bragging about stadium size is all your good for👍
The Geordie Mr Beast
So disappointed it's not big enough a massive backward step
It will be more than 60k . 70-75 more like.
Impossible without a new stadium.
No available land means no new stadium
Good and bad news….good as Wor Cathedral needs a load of cash put in to bring it up to 2024 and on and on, I was there for the West Ham game🎉🎉and weeds are growing on the walkways? But if the Gallowgate is the major redevelopment it will be closed and how many ST holders will be locked oot while it’s done and for an extra 8,000 ish then corporate takes 2,000 so 6,000 new ones and what another giant ballot for 60,000+?😮
The owners dont own the stadium, land., most other teams OWN THERE STADIUM AND GROUND. THE OWNERS OF NEWCASTLE NEED TO BUY LAND AND BUILD A NEW STADIUM.
90,000 😂😂😂
Bad choice in my opinion. NUFC could easily have 70 thousand day in day out! Lost revenue while the build happens. Only around 25 thousand capacity while the build happens, perhaps for 5 years!
No, wrong decision.
60 seems pointless for a club wishing to build for the future, the fans loyalty to St James may see us behind the big six for decades to come, Old Trafford will surpass 60,000 by a mile when their stadium plans are finalised.
We could be in the Championship at the end of next season
Until nufc announce it I don't believe the telegraph
Exactly
Very true. Might as well be in the Viz
Just a pointer, many don’t realise that building a new super stadium will cost up to £3 billion pounds.
Money generated from the turnstiles is minimal & not football clubs main source of income, so would be incredibly wasteful.
A 62,000 to 65,000 stadium would be ample enough.
If it’s going to be a 60,000 state of the art stadium, we should be grateful 🥹
Too small
Great news
Not moving means no naming rights change so big revenue loss? Only going to do this once so why 60k? Pushing the Leazes stand back as far as possible over the car park would have allowed full height all the way around it was very short sighted by the Halls back in the day.
If we can increase by 8-10,000 we'd have the third/fourth biggest stadium in the league. Man city only have a 55k capacity and chelsea way down at 40k. Extending St.James is the right thing to do keeping the atmosphere instead of a massive new soulless stadium.
Chelsea is a special case, they can charge 4x what we do. City also have a brand new stadium with more than 2x amount of hospitality we do, and that’s what drives revenue. If this is the route expect more corporate and very few added seats. A new larger capacity ground would have meant corporate all the way around (we have none in east & Gallowgate) and allowed for the cheaper seats too. Prices will go up, atmosphere will go down. It’s very disappointing news.
Fans make an atmosphere. Not the stadium.
And parts of this season, it been flat. Like vs Sheff united
It says 60,000+ (as in plus), why tell everyone what you are doing? Keep your cards close to your chest and shock everyone with a futuristic stadium, I am sure they will design and build something which looks great and fits the bill, lets see what happens as money is no object is it!
old cheaply said that it would cost mr cheap 40mil and he said the fan were not filling his pocketers fast enough.. Time have changed and its beautiful news.
Well if you’re talking 60.000 not much scope for cheap seats. But I am pleased we’re staying . Not much thought for those struggling to pay bills.
I fucking hate the East stand with passion. it’s embarrassing for everyone
Thank Christ for this, best news in a long time! Moving to a new stadium would've been a travesty and this shows that the owners care first and foremost about the club and the fans.
I love St James Park. Glad we’re staying
Yes same here
❤ SJP
Thank Christ. Plenty of ways to expand and improve without leaving.
