- Taking y'all with me on my trip to Europe. First stop, Newcastle Upon Tyne, where I head to St. James Park to see Newcastle take on PSG in the Champions League. This is Newcastles first time in the competition in 20 years and you can see what it means to the fans and people of the city. I'd describe it as a nice college town in northeast England where the team is in the heart of all the fans. Would you visit?

Dudes accidentally walked into one of the greatest matches in the club’s history!
😂😂😭
@@eatprayball Thanks for this but a shame that you did not arrive an hour earlier as there was the biggest display of Away supporters marching thru the City with a large police escort with Home fans lining the route to the stadium.:)
@@eatprayball just loved your video blog from USA to Newcastle!
What an incredible match for you to experience!!!
Should me equally amazing tonight when is Borussia Dortmund visit St James Park.
Howay the lads!
Hahaha 100% correct ✅
For Real. I had a bit of a wobble when the doors to the stadium opened. Good video.
Best city in England lads, you should of stayed a bit longer. Your main mistake was eating your Greggs cold, you only ever eat one of them bad boys hot.
Sometimes 🤣👍
And he should've taken a sachet of brown sauce (or ketchup) , hell, there's enough of them in the bakery !
Now you as a American will understand why we love football you will get it, when u get a game like that it just makes u fall in love with the game
I'm from Newcastle (I was a season ticket holder in the 90's), I have lived in the US for about 20 years now - anyway, this was an awesome video, St James' is a very special place to watch football and this was a particularly special match - you definitely chose well - that moment when the lady first opened the door and you hear the stadium in full voice gave me goosebumps! Like another commenter said, please don't judge the city on those drunk students, or what that lady said about your name - which was horrible, I'm sorry and embarrassed that you experienced that - Newcastle may not be the most diverse place in the world, but the vast majority of people are open and friendly to folk no matter where you come from or what you look like - and are just generally better than that. I hope I'm not wrong!
Oh no, not students having a good time to make their 9000 quid a year to get a funny hat bearable
@@samuelpinder1215 I'm not bashing the drunk students, I was one of those back in the day too, I was just saying not to judge the people of Newcastle on that one experience.
@sumotherdude you were right in your assessment.. the students don't reflect the city or the people .. Newcastle is the most inclusive place I know.. the issue was probably more to do with ignorance fueled by alcohol than anything else.. 😢
Why did you leave England,my friend?
@@Isleofskye I took an amazing career opportunity right after university - I never thought I'd still be on that adventure 20 years later. I love the UK though, all my family is there so I'm sure I'll move back one day.
hahaha its "Geordie boys, taking THE piss" but close enough :) Glad you enjoyed it boys! We were just above you beside the PSG fans. Great game
It's "Geordie Boys taking the Piss". It's a British idiom. Great Video lads of our Cathedral on the Hill SJP to the comedown of Anfield. Howay the Lads!
Aye.
That made me laugh too 😂
Wey
Nice to see an American perspective on the Toon vs PSG game enjoyed the video 👍
Actually one story which dates back further for the meaning of Geordie is the north was a big supporter of King George, he was cut off from his army in battle and surrounded, the only regiment to come to his rescue where the northern regiment, who fought through and dragged him out, he was the last king to lead us into battle and since then we where known as "Georges men" and was later abbreviated to Geordies, glad you enjoyed the atmosphere.
Great history nugget! The more you know! Glad you enjoyed the vid!
What battle was this
@@Leenufc 1745 when Bonnie Prince Charlie" sent an emisery to Newcastle, expecting their support He was told "We are Geordies men"!
as a fellow goerdie i apolgise for the ladys comments. dont know where she gets hat type of atitude and bad manners from as we are very friendly and open people in the north east, well except sunderland but thats a differant matter. hwtl.
I'd visit if I didn't live there! Born & bred Geordie here. Really enjoyed the video. Deserves more views! How the hell did you score tickets? they're like gold! Newcastle United & St. James Park are generally regarded as having best fans & atmosphere in the country. So it will be interesting to see how your Liverpool experience compares. Also interesting how you said it's loudest atmosphere you've heard... imagine what PSG players thought? they didn't know what hit them. They were arrogant/ignorant and got spanked. New owners are planning to increases capacity of stadium to 65,000 (which will make it 2nd largest in Premier League) but it's difficult because of protected historical building nearby. After 14 years of being in a coma under previous owner I'm just enjoying the ride to our eventual rise with our new owner to dominating the football world. Saudi Arabia doesn't play 2nd fiddle to anyone.
The first ever match I attended as a young boy was also a Champion League game in 1997. Newcastle beat Barcelona 3-2. PSG's current manager Luis Enrique was playing for Barcelona that day.
Best atmosphere hands down.. y'all's new management are doing it right.. I watched the documentary on the way and now after being there I get it.. wait till you see the Anfield experience 😂
@@eatprayball Cool. One of my best friend has cameo in the Newcastle Amazon documentary. He works for a company that works with the club.
@@nWoWolfpacTV2016too sweet!
As a dude born and raised in LA and being a Newcastle fan that has homies out there and went there 2017 and 18.. I can assure you they are the nicest people in the world, can fuckin party, and has the best fans in Europe yet alone England. You saw a historical match and I'm jealous. City center is nice but tyne bar area is a great time
Tyne bar area is called the Ouseburn mate. You right, it is the best :)
great video from a newcastle fan! glad you enjoyed! welcome back any time⚫️⚪️
Great video lads. Not gonna lie, turned my stomach hearing how you felt after some
of the comments made to you in the bars post match. Newcastle prides itself on being a warm, friendly and welcoming city for everyone.
Hope you enjoyed your Geggs 😂
Overall was great and didn't tarnish my opinion of the town at all.. I do make a point to highlight ignorant remarks and in this case it was a very young and likely drunk university student who couldn't contain herself 🤦🏽♂️.
Good video. Thanks for sharing my city and club.
Apologies for the philistine who asked about your name. My city is a great city, but there are a lot of people who don’t venture out of it.
5:45 you could not have timed that more perfectly !! you picked the best game to go to !!
fuckin magic when they open that door and it just fuckin hits you like a bomb 💣!
Glad you enjoyed your time here, man. What a night to come be a part of our history.
EDIT: It's Taking 'THE' Piss by the way, not taking a piss. As in taking the micky, or clowning on someone.
😂 it's been added to my English phrase books!
Well this Geordie boy was taking a piss with the amount of cans I drank that night. Like a fucking racehorse.
Pleased you got to witness that game and my city on a fantastic night. What I will say is that we are welcoming to all people no matter what race, religion, nationality. Sounds like the girl was just drunk! Good vid 🖤🤍
What your pleased two people got in to st james park while people who have supported the club for 40 years could not get a ticket
@@user-hs9tb8wf2lhit the nail on the head
@@user-hs9tb8wf2l how did you not get one? All season ticket holders got first refusal.
Loved the vlog, I was at the match as a newcastle fan. Came all the way from Kuwait to watch the match. Could’t miss the first match in UCL at St’james park.loved the match, love the city 👍🏻Howay the lads…
Loudest place you been to?
What a match for you to walk into! I've been a lifelong fan and was there the last time we were in the CL, an unforgettable experience and I love that you recognise that place for the noise and passion we show for our football.
Sorry about the casual racism. Its hard to reason with ignorance!! Hope you enjoyed your visit to our city 👍
Full respect fellas, glad you enjoyed the toon. 😉👍
Watch out for those bed bugs in Paris. By the way, it’s “Geordie boys, taking THE piss”, if you take the piss or take the piss out of someone it just means that you’re making a fool out of them. You’d say “ah, stop taking the piss man”. And we took more than the piss out of Paris, we destroyed them that night.
SJP ST holder here. Thanks for the video. I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit. And if you're gonna bring that kind of luck, you're welcome back anytime!
No way are you a season ticket holder because if you where you’d be pissed off two random people who don’t have a fucking clue about newcastle united get a ticket before proper newcastle fans
We got tickets from a season ticket holder who couldn't make the game last minute... would you rather the seats be empty?
@@eatprayball bullshit
@@eatprayball that last min you had to get a flight from America hahahaha and what newcastle fan would give there tickets to an American psg fan to sit in the home end your talking absolute bollox
Wind your neck in man. Our clubs going global. You're just gonna have to get used to it. Everyone's welcome, however they come across a ticket.
Greetings from Newcastle. So pleased you had a good time at the match. Great video capturing the atmosphere on a special night. The Toon is a very special place.
Geordies got the name due to their loyalty to King George the 2nd (the mad king). Also, George Stephenson is most famous for inventing trains or locomotive to you. The first being George Stephensons Rocket.
Great video. Your face when you first walked into the ground and heard the noise. That night was the best atmosphere I've ever witnessed at St James Park, it was bouncing. Glad you enjoyed it and hope you enjoyed the city too 👏👏👍
Great video, I really enjoyed it. I couldn’t get tickets for the match so watching everyone else’s experience has been fantastic. Seeing an American’s view on it has been great too. There’s debate about the origin of the name “Geordie”. Most historians agree it was because of loyalty to the crown of King George I. The rival town is Sunderland. There is a massive reason rivalry with Sunderland. This stems from the wealth of Newcastle from its merchants, but goes deeper to the crown loyalty. The Mackems (this is what people from Sunderland are called) supported Scotland, and King James VII (of Scotland,if he’d been crowned). The people of Newcastle supported King George, not only politically, but also fought for him. They became known as Georgie’s Boys, which was later corrupted to “Geordies”. The miners lamp came around 100 years later, but there’s documents supporting the earlier use of the term Geordie in relation to Novacastrians which is the proper term for a person from Newcastle.
Loving hearing the history of it! I wish I had asked a local rather than do google search but glad im getting the real background!
@@eatprayball it was a great video you made. I’m glad you had a great time, and chose not to wear your PSG shirt! I think Newcastle will get at least a draw away at PSG.Time will tell. If you’re still here in the UK, I hope you’re having a great time.
Filled a lifelong dream a few months back while in the UK for work. Got to go to a game at St James Park. Was epic
Great vlog - you made me laugh several times - loved your banter
That was great when you just walked in our stadium and the atmosphere was already nearly at fever pitch
You chose a fantastic game to go to!
Found it really interesting that you mentioned Lumen Field for the atmosphere! That was the reason i started supporting the Seahawks as we've got a raucous fanbase as well as the 12s so that was the link to follow them as we've been known to be the 12th man too.
I was on holiday in New York when this game was on. It was absolutely incredible. A game I will never forget
He’s a lucky lad getting tickets for one of the most special atmospheres there has ever been at one of the most special and amazing stadiums on this Earth . When St James park is like this nothing beats it proud to be a Geordie watching this !!!
Great video, glad you enjoyed the Toon!!
just to let you know the Geordie Boys loved this video - best atmosphere in UK
Glad you guys enjoyed the football and the city! 🖤🤍
Very Very emotional game ❤🎉
Glad to to see your stay was enjoyable in the Toon
Welcome to newcastle enjoy.
Really enjoyed watching this, and really glad you enjoyed our stadium. Welcome back to the Toon any time :-)
If been going to St James for as long as i can remember & im in my 40s.
That night was up there with one of the best nights many of us have ever witnessed in that stadium.
You don't know how lucky you were ha. 😊
Great stuff. So good to see an American brother
Enjoying football or should I say "soccer" in the North East.
Newcastle fans are fantastic.
Thanks for posting. Only going by the US accent. Hope I'm correct. Love his honesty about the food ,lol 😊.
Brilliant vid sir! looking forward to your Liverpool experience:)
that was a special game but we could of been playing a team from league 2 (4th leagues below us) and it wouldnt of been much different... The Toon love our FOOTBALL no matter who we're playing! glad u lads enjoyed the experience and we'll have to wait and see about the result at PSG... personally id take a draw but if psg play like that again then 2-0
I got that feeling! Whether champions league or an early round in the FA cup it felt like the energy would be 100%
As a Geordie. That was a great vlog. And to be honest. I was asked if I had anything for heartburn!! Answer being yeah. A Greggs sausage roll 🤣🤣
Thank you for a fantastic vlog. The whole area supports NUFC - we are a *one club city* 😊 You’re both welcome back any time mate!👏 HOWAY THE LADS! 🖤🤍
You'll have to come back & put that drone up (or just watch there's already a few drone video's of Newcastle 😅
Oh & something Im extremely proud of , yes, we do love and welcome folk from over the world but, when I was very young , I saw Martin Luther King here , he was given an Honourary degree at the University of Newcastle plus received the accolade of being made a Freeman of the City , such a brilliant man 💙
Not sure why I feel emotional watching this but proud to be a Geordie! Hope everyone treated you well ma man!
Let’s goooo! Footy life 👏
Great video. Newcastle is a well known party town to put it politely.
Great video I enjoyed watching hope you liked Newcastle and make it back sometime for another game
Honesty mate what a class video!! massive respect good to see it from a American geordies perspective! Would of give me nut sack for a ticket
What a brilliant video well done lads👏👏👏 hopefully you enjoyed Newcastle and you enjoyed the wedding.
The more you eat Greggs the more you’ll enjoy them😉 up the Geordie Mags 🖤🤍🖤🤍
As a Geordie, I love seeing people coming to visit our magnificent city. SJP is the holy ground of the city and I hope you enjoyed your time here! Shame about the racist comment you received, I promise we're not all like that and it's not what we srand for here in Newcastle. HWTL ⚫️⚪️
Great video lads👍
Enjoyed ur trip, I've been away for 35 yrs, good luck man
when you walked out, goosebumps hahah class
Chills!
With regards to the Sausage Rolls, they taste better when they are fresh out of the oven. Think the amount of Greggs stores there is around Newcastle City Centre is in double figures, there is one accross the road from the station and I believe they have one inside the station too.
If you were going to one game at Newcastle, that was it. Congrats!
Nice one lads liked & subscribed.. Bit of context on the name "Geordie," I'm actually reading two books, one on my family history in Northumberland, the other is about the "Border Rievers" and the name Geordie is stated in both books, the earliest is in court records from the 14th century.!!??
Hi mate, glad you enjoyed the game and city…
That is me and my son sitting in front of you singing at around 14 minutes of video 😂
😂😂 special moment! I have a longer video of it if your interested send me an email to thenohobros@gmail.com
Glad you enjoyed it, we are the geordies 🖤🤍
excellent video if your ever back in Newcastle let me buy you a Gregg's you missed out on some major classic's such as the steak or chicken bake, sausage bean and cheese melts, the famous stottie cake the list goes on. A basic sausage roll doesn't do it justice. There's also other local delicacy's such as saveloy and peas pudding sandwiches lol.
Will take you up on that Next time!
If you fancy it, and like heights, you can do a tour on the roof you were sat under, offers a great view of the city
Alright boss, thanks for visiting our city and our Cathedral on the hill, St James Park, you couldn't of been going to a wedding at a better time for you to be able to see the slaughter of PSG.
The word Geordie was used a long time before G Stevenson, it is actually goes back to England's Hanovarian King George 3rd 1714 to 1830.
Your welcome back any time my man 🤜🏼
Great video, thank you! FYI, ‘Geordie’ is a reference to the people that stood and fought for King George during the Jacobite rebellion….not that you needed to know that, just thought you’d like to know
The guy you were sat with for the match is my dad , he said he hopes you enjoyed your pint!
Couldn't ask for better seat mates they were so nice! Tell them hi for us and know we have a pint waiting for y'all if you come to LA 😎
@@eatprayball it’s my mum and dad, hope you enjoyed brother
Glad you enjoyed yourself in my adopted City.
Have a trip to Birmingham City for a great day/night out.
Were trying to make it bigger aswell so it will only get louder. Glad you enjoyed it though!!
Newcastle is a little friendlier than Paris!
Thanks for that. If you thought that end was good then imagine what the real Home End "The Gallowgate" at the other end was like where fans stood throughout the game whether they were in seats or not. lol
Shame you did not see the impressive PDG parade to the stadium, one hour before the game with a police escort and Geordies lining the route to the stadium. Good Luck:)
Great vid mate and don't be a stranger visit again
You certainly picked a good match to attend.
Great video . . . you guys looked like Jamal Lascelles and Joe Willock with American accents.
😭😭
Nice video fella, glad you enjoyed the game and my city... its blasphemy though not liking the sausage roll... lol
Newcastle has the most loyal supporters in the world, we sleep eat n breath NUFC ,glad you enjoyed you trp to the Toon . Hope you could understand our amazing accent , and steak bakes n mince pies are much better than sausage rolls
TOON ARMY , welcome my friend
when that drunk lass asked you about your real name, it probably was your accent and she probably thought that she was trying to be nice. I am not going to say that there are no muppets because there definitely are some but the vast majority of people in Newcastle really don't care about things like that; Newcastle play black and white. As for the lads enjoying their night out in dresses, the fact that they were out on a match night and not getting any hassle at all, should tell you all you need to know about attitudes to prejudice. Ignore the jealousy in the comments about getting the tickets, chances are they wouldn't have paid the amount you paid for a single game. Glad you enjoyed it.
There was a Greggs in New York and always eat them hot!!!! Prefer the bakes but absolutely nothing like them in N. America. Everything will be a step down after the toon experience.
Welcome to Newcastle bonny lad
you have to eat greggs sausage rolls and pasties just after they have come out of the oven and contain molten lava to enjoy properly ! They are terrible once they have went cold and the coffee is great from greggs by the way (i do not work for greggs) 😊
Come on board with the Black n White Army
You should have had a stottie with ham and pease pudding!
Greggs isn't what it used to be.. Maybe they should try some spicy American Sausage! Mmmmm Drop of Mustard.
Sounds like the lass had her beer goggles on with that comment. Thought you were Arabic….say no more. I would have played along man, ha and said you had many wife’s here. Glad yous had a good time. There are parts of town that can be a bit more laid back, but to be honest it was more so due to the result with everyone wanting to celebrate .
Great video. But the atmosphere is better in the gallowgate that’s the other side of the stadium. Good blog tho. Up the mags 🖤🤍
Loved the vlog mate! Do you mind telling me how you got your ticket? I’m a Newcastle fan who lives in the states so would love to find a reliable ticket reseller!
Stubhub.ie or viagogo are my top resell choices for euro tickets
@@eatprayballthought you got your ticket of a friend who’s a newcastle fan who could not make it last min ?
Greggs are minging. I'm from Newcastle and wouldn't touch heartburn pasties. Good video. Glad you enjoyed the game. BTW we have lots of black folk, shame that girl gave you the wrong impression
They are like "Harry Ramsdens " Fish and Chips just trading on the name..
The guys were sing “Geordie boys taking ‘the’ piss” at the game - it means taking the mickey in British English
Missed a trick there, greggs coffee is better than Starbucks and also a quarter of the price.
Hey Matthew I'm sorry you had stupid comments! Newcastle is one of the friendliest cities but a lot of stupid people as always! Thank you for your video as an expat it was awesome 🎉🎉🎉
Great video, you said it rivals the Seattle sounders stadium, is it as loud there? Because here in Europe everyone saying US football supporters are shit! And from the videos I’ve seen they are but might be better in real life?
You have to eat a Greggs when its hot!
Thank you for uploading this 👍 Great video and glad you enjoyed the St James's experience 🙂 Geordies are passionate about their football but they're a decent friendly and respectful bunch. One more thing though... you've got to eat ya Greggs while they're still hot man 🔥😉
they have to be warm tho for maximum taste cold is not the same
17:45 this is a sport social outfit. The sports teams at university have to dress up in things like dresses or maybe WWE themed or any other fancy dress theme
Did you get Newcastle top
Pleased you enjoyed coming to my City. I can't understand why you felt you felt people acted like they'd not seen a black guy before? Maybe more wondering if you were Paris St German fans. Safe travels
How did you get a CL ticket for St James??
Exactly fucking absolute joke
Paid for executive tickets very expensive and our club will always try help overseas fans out with tickets if they are making the journey .
You need some ketchup on the Gregg’s!
