  • Part one of my build series featuring me making a titanium framelock in my knifemaking workshop in Australia. The knife design is called the Primus and its a design I have been producing since 2015. Cpms35vn is the blade steel and the frames are made from grade 5, 6al4v Titanium. If your interested in more of my work please check out my online store and my social media. Thanks

Events like corona, when you cant get consumable products as you do usually, make you question if you should really replace something already. (As you did with your abrasives)
I had to grind a bunch metal clean for welding today and thought I ran out of a special type of angle grinder disc, since the shops are all closed.
Instead of stopping, I tried to squeeze the last bit of life out of the discs that i would usually have tossed in the bin already and was surprised that they held up for quite a lot longer than I anticipated.
In the end it took just a few minutes longer, but I probably saved myself 30 bucks in abrasives on a 1 hour job.

I am going to tackle a folder soon! This video helps a lot! Great work along the way and incredibly informative man! Thank you for sharing the realities of knifemaking.

Sweet video, I just tried my 1st framelock, the little details were kinda what i expected, but for the most part I'm kicking myself for not trying it earlier. I think it got to the point where I just siked myself out... Definitely got a few pointers, looking forward to the next part. Hope you're staying safe, take it easy.

You are a weapon on the hand tools!! Good to see the learnings that you made along the way... I didn’t realize bearings were needed but that sounds super smooth

they aren't really needed, washers work also. But bearings will give that glassy smooth action

DB Blades excellent I’m going to try a washer or 2 in a knife and see how it goes

Great vid as always. Appreciate the work mate. You inspire beginner knife makers like me to make knives.

Possibly the most nonchalant machining I've seen on CZcams! Regardless you're getting the desired results so good on you mate. I look forward to part two.

Pretty much. Most of what I did in this video was all non critical machining with stuff all tolerance requirements

We learn as we go. Keep it coming.

Awesome video dom. I was always having the leaking problem with my stainless foil wraps. I have alot better luck folding it 3 times on each side instead of 2

Hey DB, I'm trying to figure out this titanium question... So I have titanium scales that I'm going to drop in etch solution to remove the ano. The question I have is when I sand paper the titanium, the titanium then looks shiny (pretty much the same as steel)...How can I get the darker titanium color, kinda like you have in your thumbnail pic?
It's not like steel where I can just drop in etch solution and darken it obviously. And I don't really want DLC either. Anyway I hope my question makes sense. Thank you

How does the American hardware being imperial match your holes and stuff in metric?? I’m having that issue now! Bought pivots and hardened pins all are Americans measurements.... but obviously all my drills and stuff are in mm..!!! New drill bits time?

At what point will you just hate titanium so much you make a brass or copper frame lock;)
