In this Video I show you, how I make my first ever framelock folding knife, using no mill but only my cheap drill press. I am very pleased with the accuracy, the blade is nicely centered and the action is smooth as butter. The stainless steel bearings make the blade fall under its own weight. I hope, you enjoy watching.

Some dishwashing soap in your container helps to catch the grinding dust so there's nothing floating on top of the water

I feel you man, I became a machinist so I can learn to do things like this, almost 6 years in, I got a Bridgeport mill as a gift and I still don’t even have a garage to set it up. But be patient man, it’s about the little steps. I had no skills with my hands other than turning a screw 5 years ago and now I make parts for airplanes. I’ve come a long way yet I still feel far from my goal. But you’re off to a great start tho, watching these videos are actually extremely helpful.

I would be a little concerned with the de carb on the surface of the blade because you didnt use any atmosphere protection , and aluminium plates are going to be a better option for quenching than the oil . I suppose if you grind enough off with a surface grinder it wont be a problem . I would have also put the cut out for the spring on the inside not the outside . It just makes for a cleaner look . But for a first one that was a great effort.

    • @rvdKnives
