When they showed the coolant overflow res it was all black. That truck(big red) has either a bad head gasket or a problem with egr cooler. So, I wouldn't say it hasn't had any serious problems. Then again... million plus miles, can't complain there! Also idk how he's getting that kind of fuel efficiency from that dually... I have the same truck only not a dually and it's a three quarter ton not a one ton and I get fifteen to sixteen mpg empty. Oh and mine is the lly not lbz or whichever he said. This is interesting stuff indeed!

Folks thinking that won't know that he pushed his '76 Malibu, '88 Beretta GT, '93 ZX 11 and BMW race driver harder than any of those vehicles have EVER been pushed in any setting. You are interviewing a professional driver, backed by being a professional driving instructor, who could make many of the doubters cry if he got them behind the wheel. He also just happens to be the smartest guy I know who has cracked the code for his business. Great interview - you should talk to him again.

A couple of takeaways from this. Dude needs to spend more time at home...and GM isn’t junk. Who would have thought? These are well designed vehicles despite the bad wrap they get from cheap plastic interiors, the occasional clunk in the steering column and the infamous dash cluter. All understandable gripes but given the mileage I’d say who cares. Basic maintenance and proper use will usually get you decades of use and hundreds of thousands of miles from any vehicle. The GMT800 platform was truly GM’s best truck design. They were easy to maintain and they used the same off the shelf parts on every truck an SUV for about 10 years making them very inexpensive to work on. I have a few examples in my fleet well into 200k still going strong.

Before it I drove a 1995 dodge ram 12v cummins for about a year. The auto transmission was swapped out for an nv4500. I'm using lucas oil on it because they no longer make the recommended trans fluid. The synchros are wearing out because of it. I'm fixing to sell it right now. Might buy me an lbz just like this one if my f250 starts having problems, which I doubt it will I'm babying that thing better than my parents babied me. and what he said about the tires, those michelin’s seriously do amazing on purely highway driving. not uncommon to see 100+k on one set. i worked on a dude’s truck who does similarly to this guy but for towing race cars. he had a 2018 dmax(this was a year and a half ago) with 260k on it, and a 2016 dmax identical with like 460k. he runs the cooper highway terrains and he gets em good.

I’ve got a 2003 Sierra Crew can Duramax with 250,000 miles. It’s been rock solid but cosmetically it’s wearing quite a bit. I also have a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser 4.7 V8 with 280,000 miles. Hope to get both of them to at least 500k!

Good stuff , smart guy he did it right. Not used up his truck n put more money in his pocket..
I did hotshot for 20yrs. I just sold 07 f350 DRW 6.0 yeah ole problem child , i bought new back in 07. It had 737k miles.
Mostly highway n not race it these trucks and good mantaince they can last well over million..
I pretty much did same service schedule and always put additive in fuel..
Tires best i got was 100-110k out of a set..
And MPG best loaded was 11-12mpg with 4:10 gears. impressed with 13-14mpg

He wasn't kidding about the weather. I live about 8 hours northwest of Edmonton and it's currently -31C with a wind chill of -41. This is our 4th day of this and that's what they're predicting for the next solid week. His -12F is a nice normal winter day around here.

His 2015 has 500k+ miles on it. Tomorrow's episode will be a lot of discussion between the two trucks especially with the Def system. Check back for that one.

extremerc76 that’s what I’m curious about. Most people can’t get 200k without something failing.

Brandon Keithley 200k! Hell I couldn’t get 100k out of mine, and dodge wouldn’t honor the warranty on the dpf. I was told there was some sort of def dosing error that never tripped a light and burnt out my dpf, they wanted $3800 for a new one at 65k miles. I deleted and never looked back.

Those truck years models built before 2007 were the best that GM built to last ! However the rust is what kills them before their engine dies ⚠️
