The problem is, trucks in the purest sense are supposed to be designed for businesses (like the one Hoovie described owned before he bought it) to do truck-type stuff. When a company like that oil parts supply company buys a truck like this, they're buying a tool for their business that they're relying on for it to do work, work correctly, do what it's designed to do, and do it reliably. Until the last 20 years, most American-made trucks did that. They did that because the companies understood, that's what people buy trucks for.
Today, they have lost their way. Forget that you can get a truck for $100k with heated/massaging seats and quad-zone climate control, even the "base trucks" have overcomplicated engine designs for emissions and fuel economy. Back then, truck were exempt from meeting the automobile regulations. So they built them to be reliable. You can't have reliable and computer controlled - you pick, one or the other.
