  • In part two of our discussion with the owner of a million mile 2007 Chevy Silverado, we ask him about his half million mile 2015 GMC Sierra. Both HD trucks have a Duramax diesel engine and he uses them the same although one is a dually and the other is a single rear wheel. Check out what this professional RV hauler has to say about both trucks.

Perhaps I just get nostalgic over them because I've been around them basically my entire life, but I can't get enough of them. Every single one we've had or still have, have been absolute troopers.

      I never thought that there was someone else that felt the same way looking and remembering those late 90's early 2000's Silverados like me. I have a newer sierra and recent model suburban and I still hoping to buy a silverado from that great era.
      May be because I always wanted one back then but I was too young. But as soon as I could I brought me a 2000 extended cab S-10 manual transmission. It wasn't the Silverado but that little truck made me happy until I put 230k miles on it and gave it away.

      What? "highway miles are 10% wear and tear of city driving?". I'm not sure that's the case. If it was, why do Toyota engineers buy back their 1000000 mile trucks to tear down and inspect if its roughly equivalent to 100,000 miles of city driving? This reminds me of myth that idling is significantly worse on an engine than loaded running.

I sold it 8000km later cause the junk 5.3 started using lots of oil I was worried it wasn't going to hit 100 000km before it died so glad it's gone never will I purchase a new GM ever again it's GM loss not mine I fought with GM over the paint and body defects aswell as the oil consumption they did finally put a new motor in a only 57 000km but wouldn't do nothing about there shit paint. Even though I did everything I could to prevent rock chips like gator back mud flaps driving very slow on grid roads. I felt like they should of owned up to there shit paint I didn't pay $50 000 for the paint to only last a year.

    This proves that no, you do not NEED to delete your truck to keep it running. From what I understood from this gentleman is read the manual, keep up on all maintenance, keep it stock, and don't drive it like a sportscar, and the stock emmissions system will last well beyond the time the owner has the truck.

    • @leviemerick6736

      Foster Schutt I was on the whole “delete everything” crowd in regards to trucks including my own ‘05 Duramax. I even put an EGR delete kit on my truck but I had a rubber hose blow apart from it and plus I was reading and my kit could cause up pipes to crack and I didn’t want to get into that mess so I cleaned up the factory EGR system and put it back on. If it worked fine for 14 years when my grandfather owned it previously why alter with it? Plus these systems nowadays have seemed to be greatly improved from when they were first introduced. Everyone freaked out when the catalytic converters were put on everything back in the 1970’s and 80’s but look how improved they are now. I feel it could be the same case regarding today’s diesels. It’ll just take time.

Certain companies will not even hire you if your emissions system is deleted....ask me how I know! Both of these videos are excellent and I plan to watch more of them!!! I know exactly what he's talking about with the Montana winds as I live there. I do have a problem with the one part where he was talking about oil consumption. He said that you should check it when you fill up. I was taught by my dad (an excellent mechanic) that you ALWAYS check your oil when it's cold!!! Because when you do it when it's hot you aren't getting an accurate reading since you have oil all over the dipstick not just at the bottom of it! This same scenario reminds me of the way gas stations use to be where they would come out fill up the tank, wash your windows, check your oil, air up the tires and whatever else they did back then. So unless you have a couple hours or so to kill to let your oil cool and drain to the bottom of the pan so that you can check it and get an accurate reading, I wouldn't check it while your fueling up after just driving!!!

    • @Pickuptrucktalk
      @Pickuptrucktalk  Před 4 lety +1

      ...I was taught the same thing growing up by my dad and during my military training but I was also taught if you're running that equipment constantly you better do checks on fluids and tires on a regular basis or when you stop for fuel. What is his plan for the 15 with the more frequent Regen cycles? More Regen's require more fuel which causes more harm to the environment than the soot from the original diesel engine. Does he plan on replacing, deleting or finding a way to clean the DPF. I would think there would be a market for a DPF that could be removed, cleaned and reinstalled such as the bigger trucks are able to do. This should be required of the manufacture. The idea of buying another Platinum filter that has to be mined out of the ground causing more environmental harm seems counter productive!
