- Here is Part 1 of a driving video showing my journey in and around Bridgetown. This video starts from King Street, one of the city's residential areas and ends at Whitepark Road on the city's outskirts.
Bridgetown is the capital city of Barbados and is one of the country's four main towns (Speightstown, Holetown and Oistins are the other three). Located in the parish of St. Michael, it is one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean. It is the home of one of the oldest parliaments in the Western Hemisphere and the only remaining screw dock in the world. Ancient buildings, modern offices, shops, parks, and even a river can be found in the city. The name 'Bridgetown' is derived from the long demolished Indian Bridge which once spanned the Constitution river. Two new bridges now take its place: The Chamberlain Bridge (pedestrian and bikes only) and the Charles Duncan O'Neal Bridge. Other landmarks and popular places in Bridgetown include Broad Street, Swan Street, Queen's Park, and Heroes' Square.
The city will celebrate its 400th anniversary in 2028.
Part 2 will show my journey out of Bridgetown and on to a suburban location. Stay tuned for that.
It is a beautiful island with kind people. My homeland will always be the most beautiful ❤️ place in the world.
The names of the streets just coming back to me. School days, walked along many of these😊
Can't explain how much I miss Barbados 💕
Hermoso lugar🚩
Barbados change so much. Baxters Road looks desolate. That street use to be bustling when I was a kid growing up.
Still bustling at times. Its also in the process of being redeveloped. Some of the sweetest bake bread and cakes anywhere on earth still.😁
@@user-mj4or1zx3h oh okay. Thanks for the information 👍🏿. You are so right. Best bakery along with the one that used to be in Nelson's Street.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the video. Barbados is beautiful. However, they have to tear down the old buildings, and fix up the areas more. This is positive criticism.
Some of the old buildings are worth saving though. It is, after all, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Those old buildings gives character. Repairs not pull down. Do you want it to be like Belleville?
new friend for supporting
If they drive on the left side of the road in Barbados, which side is the driver's seat on?
Driver's seat is on the right, and so is the steering wheel.
Hardly any trees.
A black city and way cleaner and more colorful than Buenos Aires.
Barbados is a great small country
Nice😃👌🏾
