Indonesia uses a lot of common sense. Joining BRICKS would mean catastrophic and economic decline for the country.
Substantially, the continues prosperity of the ASEAN can’t be replaced by other groupings, like the dwindling BRICKS.

Actually it has. You can see from this video many newly built pedestrians already exist, which few years ago are almost non-exist or in a very bad stage. Starting from the minute 17:25, below the ground there is a metro system which was inaugurated only in 2019 and currently being expanded to the northern part of the city, while the metro system extension to the eastern and western part of Jakarta will begin this upcoming 2024. Not to mention also the newly refurbished BRT stations which was also finished only in the last couple of years and clearly visible in this video. In addition, the Greater Jakarta area just inaugurated its LRT system only few months ago which connects downtown Jakarta with neighboring cities which is not captured in this video
Maybe it's true that Jakarta is still left behind if you take the standard of neighboring Singapore and Hong Kong. But as a local who have been living here for many years, I can say this city is currently progressing towards the right direction

For recommendations, please enter the SCBD area, Mega Kuningan, Rasuna Epicentrum area or explore North Jakarta, the PIK area. It must have been imported from India, the horns of the vehicles yes very similar to India, some city places you'll feel as if it's indi. But the longer you stay you will realize the difference though. Somehow it's similar to India but not quite so. Even my fellow travelers from other countries before say that it gives them indian vibes but then still different. It's amazing is it? Jakarta is interesting you should go and visit.
