Yup.

I'm a native Jakartan, and the pavement and the trash would make number 2 and number 1 on my list. The traffic is bad, but at least the government is trying to do something about it by building alternative means like MRT and busways. But the TRASH, especially in non-"protocol" areas (ie. CBDs and routes travelled by government dignitaries) , is simply horid..

for money problems you don't need to worry because in Jakarta the price of goods is much cheaper than Europe. or if you want to use large amounts of money, Indonesian people usually don't use cash but use bank cards, or with digital money which is much easier.

I live here now as a bule, it’s the absolute worst city I’ve EVER been in as a world traveler,2nd worst would be Belize City. The people are so sweet and kind . But you find a massive separation of how they treat you ,to how they treat each other. You always feel like an outsider ,no matter how good your Bahasa Indonesian is. Everywhere I go I’m stared at,pointed at.This place is not used to multiculturalism like the US and Europe. You very rarely ever see white or black people…I mean super rare…only if you’re in a mega mall areas or at a building roof top restaurant. The traffic is beyond terrible, and complete chaos because of next to no traffic lights. There are just neighborhood men,(I called them freelance traffic conductors) standing in the middle of busy intersections, directing traffic and you must tip them to get thru faster. 5 times a day, starting at 4am ,every mosque (which is every block or 2) turns up the most terrible sound system to 10 and sings the call of prayer at the top of their lungs for 10-20 minutes. It’s the most ominous sound you’ve heard, the whole city vibrates…It literally sounds like the part in a horror suspense movie where you are expecting something really bad to happen any moment, very tense. The poverty and class separation is off the charts, shanty shacks in every nook and cranny . Trash thrown EVERYWHERE by the locals. Mosquitos everywhere all the time, I’m just recently recovering from a 10 day dengue sickness that almost killed me.Terrible food quality and eating practices, crazy amounts of sugar in everything, especially drinks..and also crazy amounts of take-away trash with every purchase.Air Pollution that’s staggering. Not to mention insane government corruption, that keeps the Indonesia people as slaves in this world economy, they can almost never make it out of being poor. The only nice thing here are the people. There are so many beautiful places in Indonesia, why anyone would choose to live in Jakarta willingly is a mystery to me?

The main problem is #4 for me. The air pollution is unhealthy everyday. Many catalytic converters that are supposed to filter the car exhaust are stolen because they contain precious metals. And electric cars like Tesla are priced 2.5x more expensive. The city has tried to clean the air by building parks, but making electric vehicles more affordable will be more effective. As for #3, the city just needs to build more trash cans and implement fines for littering.

Agree with all except Indonesian Rupiah.
Indonesian Rupiah is so low because of export purpose cuz Indonesia is a large market with 280 million people which is the 4th largest on the planet that makes us tend to export little to foreign countries so the government never agree to redenominate the Rupiah by removing the additional three zeros. (So what supposed to be 15 rupiah is instead 15,000 rupiah). Also I prefer to use e-wallet cuz it's practical easy fast and safe to use.
1000 and 2000 Rupiah is definitely very useful to buy street food or cheap stuff from convenience store.

I grow up and live in Jakarta almost the whole life. I agree for the most part and not agree with some.
    1. I love rain! and I think Jakarta have not enough rainy days.
    2. humidity is something i can tolerate.
    3. I never have problem with electricity. All the places I stay so far always have postpaid electricity. so I'm kinda surprised that you have prepaid electricity.
other things that annoyed me a lot here in Jakarta.
    1. the amount of trees and greens. I always upset on how easy for people to just cut and kill big trees. Government also don't pay attention on makin the city greener. we don't have enough parks or city forests. And many developers just palm trees for their greenery. please, palm tree don't have enough leaves to filter the air!
    2. I also annoyed with the excessive amount of motorcycle. And many of them really don't care about traffic sign and rule. it's so common to see them counterflowing or stop wherever they want.

Jakarta needs to move its millions of people to other islands like Sumatra or Borneo to be able to cope with its already congested and unsustainable infrastructure like the transport system, sewage and rubbish collection. Jakarta is sinking and stinking!! The govt is now taking action to move its capital Jakarta to Kalimantan Borneo island..
