Amol Palekar is so polite and soft spoken. Sounds like a true gentleman, and was a natural actor, never did vulgar films or faltu hulladbaazi. He was the quintessential common man and no one played common Indian as naturally as him. His Golmaal is still the best comedy. He speaks with so much thehraav till date. Very simple, polite, no frills, no ego. Good to hear about his discipline and professionalism.

I am a Kannadiga and take a wild guess which movie I am going to watch next? :-). I had no idea Amol Palekar had acted in a Kannada movie. Being a 70's kid, Amol was a bigger star in my household than Amitabh even! I still watch his movies whenever I am feeling down. Its amazing his delivery. Even in this interview it is so typical delivery of Amolji. God bless him, as he truly is one of the brightest stars of Indian films. I also liked the way he said Ananth for Ananth Nag. I wish he had spoken more about his Kannada movie and his interactions with the great Ananth Nag.

I have watched only a few of his films, including Golmaal (ofc) and Chhoti Si Baat. But I admire Mr. Palekar a lot. I remember my father told me a story about him meeting Amol Palekar in a flight to Mumbai. So the story goes: My father was an MR (medical rep) for a France-based company back in the day. He used to go to Mumbai at least once a month to attend official meetings. One time, he was seated in his seat in an Air India flight, ig, and when the flight was taking off, something sticky started dripping onto his shirt from the above luggage compartment. He could not move as the seat belt was on. After he was able to take off the seatbelt, he opened the compartment to find a matka (earthened pot) of Rasgulla (a popular bengali sweet dish that are usually dipped in sugar syrup). Hence, the matka got upside down during the take off and the syrup started dripping. My father asked around to know whose package was it but no one answered. So, he distributed all the rasgullas amongst the passengers. After the flight landed in Mumbai, Mr Palekar approached my father to let him know that it was his package that was somehow kept in the economy class luggage compartment while he was in the business class. However, he really liked the fact that my father did not create a fuss and peacefully distributed them amongst the passengers. Eventually, Mr. Palekar offered him a lead role in an advertisement for a detergent powder in Bengal. He even wrote to my father years after their interaction. Unfortunately, the letter is lost now.
