What about the 4 less vram than the previous gen. you only get 8GB VRAM on rtx 4060 but got 12GB VRAM on rtx 3060. rtx 4060 will also have a slower and lower memory bandwith and less cuda cores. it might also be priced at 300-400 dollars. the only good thing is mayber 10 more fps on the new rtx 4060 but everything else is cut down.

I picked up the Zotac Twin Edge version 4070. Its the smallest 4070 as far as I know. It does run a little warmer than 3 fan cards. 75° at stock or 67° at 150 watts in SFF case. I power limited mine to 75% and plus 150mhz on the core gets me better than stock performance at 150 watts while gaming.

I'm building a SFF and I'll be selecting a GPU with min 16GB VRAM without bus width and memory speed being throttled. That pretty much rules out nVidia. The reason I'm selecting this as a spec is so I can recoup money in the used market when I wish to upgrade. I feel anything less than this spec will likely struggle to play future games with reasonable fps and settings, which means no one will buy it, because even if the GPU is used, the games people want to play will not be old. Also used cards in 3-4 years will be competing with AMDs new APU chips. That in itself may completely change the SFF and gaming pc market expectations.
On a different note I'd like to see you and Iceberg Tech collaborate. I believe that both your channels would be able to provide useful insight and meaningful metrics for gamers.

It's a great little card. It's $100 too expensive but if you look at it from an engineering standpoint it's really impressive. Getting 3080 performance at between 165w to 185w power draw is pretty awesome considering the 3080 uses 315w or more. The 4070 is the the best GPU you can get with a power draw under 200w. It makes sense for ITX builds and if that's what you're building I can recommend this card. However for mid tower ATX and above it's a skip as their are better options for the money.

One thing is for certain, Nvidia is trying to min-max and will do it to its own customer base. After the "mining craze", they are now trying to normalize very extreme prices. Instead of helping consumers by lowering costs, their literally stopping production to just create a artificial scarcity to milk customers for more money. These people only have dollar signs in their eyes and I hope they choke on it. Console gaming has never looked better sadly.

If you have an rtx 30 card it makes sense not to upgrade for 40 cards, but if you are holding a 20 series or below. Then they might consider it. What might be terrible value for us. might be good for them. Case to case basis

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 Před rokem

It's terrible value even for them, because the 4070 isn't delivering much. It's not mid range, it's low end. 4080 is mid range. The 4070 is basically only twice as fast as a 1080ti. That's not really much in the grand scheme of things. So even people with older GPU's would simply be buying into modern low end performance, for high prices. Its been possible to have the performance level of a 4070 for several years now, such as if someone ran a 1080ti SLI. That also means not only is the 4070 not giving much in terms of performance, it's also already pretty much obsolete performance, or at least, a performance level on the verge of being obsolete. And it shows, because the 4070 can't even max out the latest games at 1440p to drive a 144hz monitor. It only gets 60-100 fps at 1440p. And 1440p 144hz is pretty much minimum standard these days. If it can't do that today, it definitely will be doing even less tomorrow. So in less than 2 years, the 4070 is going to basically be a 30fps 1440p card. And at $600 that's just hard to swallow for a performance level that is aging like milk.
And to top it off, you also basically need to upgrade your CPU to get the most out of it. People trying to extend the life of their older system, will find even less performance out of it, or have to pay even more to upgrade. They're more likely to just not upgrade at all and stick with what they have, because at that point buying a 4070 basically requires buying an entirely new system. So the 4070 is at just a high enough performance level that people need to upgrade other parts to get the most out of it, while at the same time at a low enough performance level that it's going to be an obsolete performance level in less than 2 years. And buying an over priced GPU, only to get less performance out of it because you didn't upgrade your CPU, is just going to make paying for the overpriced 4070 even less worth it. The 4070 is a $400 GPU priced at $600, and a person who buys one without upgrading their CPU, is only going to be getting ~$400 worth of performance out of a card they paid $600 for.

As it is now I am poor and broke so even if it was at 100 I wouldn't be able to afford it, but that doesn't take away the pricing being too high for my taste, for the class that it is.

If the people who bought a 2070/Super didn't shut their eyes and ears until the 4070 was announced, an 80% increase in performance was available back in 2020 with the RTX 3080 and later with the 6800XT and the 6900XT - all of which can be had for less than a 4070 now (used in case of 3080) and with even more VRAM than the 2070S and probably better RT performance, not to mention DLSS2/FSR 2.
Heck. with FSR the RX6800 is probably 80% better than the 2070S with more VRAM than the 4070.
I'd love to see if how much incremental power/unit performance efficiency a 4070 has over an undervolted and slightly underclocked 6800XT - I bet it's good, but not great. Certainly not worth the VRAM sacrifice and $100 more.
Nope - the answer to "who is the 4070 for?" is "Not me" in almost all cases unless it's a $450-479 card - which would ironically make it a great price/performance upgrade over the 2070 Super :)

At only 20W higher total power draw than my 1080, and still using a single 8-pin connector + letting me continue using my existing 650W SFF PSU? WITH up to 3x the performance at High and Ultra settings (for the games I play; like Horizon: Zero Dawn or Tony Tina’s Wonderlands) AND at a much lower temperature under full load (never breaking 60C on the 4070 (even when running Cyberpunk on Ultra with RT Overdrive enabled) vs my 1080’s regular low-70s up to 82C)? Hell. Yes. I’m using the ASUS Dual version of the card, for those interested.
I was originally going to grab a 3070 until I heard about the 4070, which was great as it was basically a much more efficient 3070 (easily trading blows with a 3080) at 100W less power. For me, and my particular use case + games played, the 4070 is for all intents and purposes the be-all-end-all 1080p GPU that I can see lasting me at least the next 6 years. Before someone starts going on about VRAM: It’s not a concern for me. I rarely exceed even 6GB VRAM used, let alone the 12GB the 4070 has to work with.
Naturally, MY use case and circumstance is not the norm. And for my friends otherwise who’re looking to upgrade from 30-series, I generally tell them to pass this card up. But when this kind of card meets my kind of scenario; it’s a dream come true.

4060ti will be 8gb which basically makes it dead on arrival. nothing new should release with less than 12gb now.

The first 4070 I saw on the top ten newegg list was one at #97. The Arc A380 is outselling the best selling RTX 4070 several slots higher. The A770 16gb is far outselling it at 30 slots higher and with the best selling Newegg 4070 being at #97 guess how many 6950xt's 6800xt's or 6800 models are outselling the 4070. About 7 different models were outselling it, and about as many Rx 7000 models are outselling it. The 4070ti is creaming it with a ton of models above #97. Even a Gt 710 is above the #97 slot ie Outselling the 4070, and the 4080 has a decent amount of models that are outselling the best selling RTX 4070, and there are only 2 RTX 4070s in the top 100 matching how many Intel Arcs are in the top 100

    10-Year Gen-on-Gen Performance Comparison NVIDIA GPUS | XX70 GPU vs Last-Gen XX80 GPU
    The GTX 970 (2014, $330) was 21% faster than the GTX 780 (2013, $650)
    The GTX 1070 (2016, $380) was 29% faster than the GTX 980 (2014, $550)
    The RTX 2070 (2018, $500) was 16% faster than the GTX 1080 (2016, $600)
    The RTX 3070 (2020, $500) was 26% faster than the RTX 2080 (2018, $700)
    Source: TechPowerUp GPU Database

    The RTX 4070 (2023, $600) was 0% faster than the RTX 3080 (2020, $700)
The problem the performance improvement between Gen to Gen this years is joke not like it was in old gen's and even prices was high in 2021 because many reason like Corona and shortage in component and high demande because they use GPU to profit from Cryptocurrency mining so now people will not buy with that high price for not profit from mining . Basically we used to see XX60 match or so close to the peformance of next Gen XX80.
And even price increase caused by inflation it must not passe 20% ( 2020 to 2023 inflation increase 17%).
    ✓So conclusion :
    - RTX 4070 should be named RTX 4060 and priced 500$.
    - RTX 4070 Ti should be named RTX 4070 and priced 600$.
    - RTX 4080 has good performance but is overpriced and should be priced 900$
    - RTX 4060 Ti should be named RTX 4060 and with at least 12gb vram and priced 400$
    - Incoming RTX 4060 should be named RTX 4050 and priced 300$

Perhaps being too generous with nVidia , this is what I'd want to see..
The 4090 should be us$1499 but with fully enabled AD102.
      The 4080 should be $799 with 20GB gddr6x on a 320-bit bus but same AD103 config.
The 4070 should use the same AD104 as the current 4070ti but with a 16GB gddr6x on a 256-bit bus and cost $549
The 4060 should be what is currently released as a 4070 but priced $349
The 4050 should be what is currently planned as a 4060ti and priced $249

I am impressed, that 4070 efficiency is consumed by everyone, even 4070 sticker is on 4060ti gpu.
4090 vs 3090 offers 63perc performance uplift, die size is very similar 608 vs 628.
4070 has die size very similar to 3060, also having same memory bus and capacity, but memory type of 70 class, if I can call it this way. Most important think is "4070" has most likely that same performance uplift over 3060ti as 4090 vs 3090.
So IMHO 4070 should get similar price inflation percentual markup over 3060ti as 4090 gets over 3090.
399USD plus 70percent, then just bit more for extra 4GB of memory, MSRP definitely not more that 499USD.
So the efficiency should be compared to 3060ti given the idea we stick to generational same uplift for all tiers.
Otherwise Nvidia milking lower tiers way more, which we already certainly know.
Maybe I am completely wrong and missing the fact, Nvidia was too generous with 4090 value and offers just right value at lower tiers of 4000 series, lol.

Thank you for this different approach. While I might not be among the majority - I am interested in good GPUs - where you can use them POWER EFFICIENT or then if need is LET GO. I would want to buy a card that is a bit above what I actually need, and then drop power use to get it efficient... and it would then still be a bit more future proof.
The electric bills went through the roof with the Ukraine war last winter, and came down to the summer. Now due to problems we have really high prices again, temporary 25-35 c/kWh in Europe... normal price is something around 5-7 in the spring.
Another thing to this is HEAT... the more WATTS the more heat... on a warm summer day, you don´t want your room to be a sauna...
Third issue is a long term GREEN line... fighting against global warming. 10 million players reducing (GPU) wattage with 50W is 500 million watts less usage.

Thanks. Getting a GPU and then dropping the wattage is a great way to also make it last longer since it will run cooler too. I had to do that with my Vega 64 since the 300W was too much but at 240-250W it's not so bad. The small room I have is much better with the lower wattage.

    ...4060ti with 12GB for $400? sure, why not? 4070 16GB 256bit for $500? hell yeah. 4070 ti 20GB 320bit for $600? oh god yes.

People are just all hype and no substance. RTX 4070 is 70 series card which offers lower than usual performance gains while offering 50% more VRAM, usable RT performance, amazing power efficiency and DLSS 3 technology for the same value as excellent Ampere generation.
While not amazing, RTX 4070 is still a good card to buy. Deal with it.
